Advice for Hair Loss Sufferers Considering Hair Transplant Surgery

My Story

  1. I have been browing this awesome forum for past one week ever since i finally decided to have a transplant. I am a 32 yr man, mpb has almost stablised, minoxidil doesnt suit my skin at all . In north india, probably dr bhati, dr pardeep,dr arika, dr dua are most popular. But price seems out of pocket. Dr bhati charges 100rs per grft whereas eugenix charges 120rs per graft..that too excluding taxes..so a 3000graft surgery wl cost arnd 4-4.5 lac. My budget is somewhere around 2-2.5 lacs. Can someone plz suggest a good clinic in delhi, someone who is at par with thesw doctors and within that budget, there must be some talented unknown HT guys out there, please share their names.
  2. This Doctor by profession was a 42 year old man when he got his procedure done with us. He got 3100 grafts from the scalp donor and 685 grafts from his beard donor. The total number of grafts done for him were 3785. We covered his frontal zone with these grafts and he was prescribed Finasteride, Minoxidil and hair specific multivitamins for his pre-existing hair. He went in for the Exclusive package where Dr. Pradeep Sethi performed his procedure. The results displayed in the pictures below are after 5 months. He has achieved incredible results.
  3. Visions of Eugenix founders: The practice of hair transplant was started way back in 2010 by Drs. Pradeep Sethi and Arika Bansal in the city of Dehradun and Rishikesh (beautiful spiritualized cities in the foothills of the Himalayas). Being Dermatologists, their focus was concentrated on treating skin disorders mainly. They both have special inclinations for common subjects in Dermatology which were Dermatopathology (diagnosing skin diseases through biopsies and histopathological examinations through microscopes) and Dermatosurgeries (doing vitiligo surgeries, excusing cysts, basal cell carcinomas etc). They started performing the Strip technique (FUT) in 2010 but entirely switched over the FUE technique later. Dr Pradeep had always obsessed with increasing patient comfort and elevating his experience with Eugenix as the best in terms of hospitality and care. Whereas, Dr Arika focused on improvising the technique, instrumentation, skills and consequently the results. In 2014 they realised that they can't do justice to Dermatology practice in terms of time & effort required but instead focusing on hair can help them alleviate their proficiency. They made a point to attend the international ISHRS meetings and workshops held annually in USA and other parts of the world. They also became active members of the Indian association of hair restoration surgeons. Dr Arika decided to increase her knowledge and accreditation by taking the exam of American Board of Hair restoration surgeons (ABHRS) and becoming the third Indian Diplomate of ABHRS in 2014. They set up centres in Mumbai and other cities in their pursuit for furtherance of their work. Dr Pradeep became mentor for hair transplant fellowship for fellowship training program provided by the Indian association of Dermatologists for sometime; and later became professor of Hair transplant at DY Patil University, Maharashtra. The soul of their pursuit remains with providing best services and results to their hair loss and hair transplant patients. (In Telford, London. Birthplace of the term Eugenics/Eugenix)
  4. When people think about their losing hair, often times a thought sparks in the mind about getting a wig to replace all of the hair loss. This might be a solution and might make you feel good in the short term, but here is why getting a wig is not a permanent solution and is not something you should consider pursuing in the quest for better hair. Thinking about the nature of a wig, it cannot be a permanent solution because you have to consistently update the wig and get renewed wigs different wigs every time. A hair transplant surgery is once and is final, whereas a wig is recurring and is not final. One of the apprehensions that people have when considering a hair transplant surgery is that there is a lot of blood involved with the surgery but the reality is that there is no blood loss involved in a hair transplant surgery. Skin problems – Wearing a wig causes skin irritation and itching and is not a permanent solution because it causes scalp itchiness and redness and irritation. On the other hand, if you were to go through a surgery, Aren’t done by trusted doctors – A wig is not made by a doctor that is well trusted and has years of experience and training doing something repeatedly. Doesn’t solve the problem – Wigs are inherently a short term solution and don’t address the actual problem, the problem is that there is not enough hair on someone’s head and a wig is simply window dressing to cover up this aspect rather than offering an actual well thought out solution. Can lead to even more hair fall – Wearing a wig can actually lead to even more hair fall than normal. Wearing a wig stresses the hair follicles at the base, which makes it a problem for someone who is concerned with their natural hair and increasing their number of hair follicles. Stress on the hair follicle causes the hair follicles to gradually weaken and eventually fall out of their natural place. The excess stress on the hair follicle is not good for existing hair follicles as well as subsequent hair growth. Regular Maintenance – Wigs require a consistent and constant investment, they’re expensive and need to be renewed after a while. In the long run, a hair transplant could actually prove to be a better investment than a wig. If you’re considering the cost of a hair transplant in Mumbai then it might actually be beneficial to get a hair surgery than it would be to get a wig. If you’re looking for a better solution than wigs then you might want to look for a hair transplant in Delhi or Hair transplant clinics in Mumbai.
  5. Here is my first time posting here and I am sharing my experience with an intention that this might help with someone who is currently in the same situation as I was in 6 months ago. Short review: Dr.Arika and Dr.Pradeep are truly talented, caring and phenomenally competent people and I couldn't have asked for any better. You can't go wrong with them. Longer version : A little history about myself: I am 27-year-old male, born and raised in India but living in United stated since the past 7 years. I noticed some thinning in the frontal area with my hairline receding but I haven't gone bald as such. I was in a limbo for quite some time whether to go for a transplant or not because some would advice for and some otherwise. After a few consultations from different practices parts from the world, I narrowed down to three surgeons, Dr.Padeep, another One in NY (Whos name I don't want to share for privacy reasons) and one in LA. Next week I requested a skype call with Dr.Padeep and he was more than willing and patient to answer literally every single question I ever had and by the end of the call, It was a very easy decision as I knew He is the doctor I wanna work with. So I made the decision to go to India to get this done. Even though I didn't care about cost at that time I should mention, It costed me less than 20% of what It would have costed me to get the same thing done anywhere else in the united states (That includes the flight tickets and everything) For international patients : If you are traveling from abroad I'd advice you to choose Delhi as your place of surgery even though they have many clinics in multiple places over India. They provide you accommodation (It's pretty good actually I was pleasantly surprised) and food (even though I ate out every day haha ) and bottled water and the ambiance is extremely clean , I know people from outside can fall sick very easily due to change in environment but I did just fine because it was very well maintained and they also offer you a pick up and drop off to the airport. Even though if you have never visited India, this whole experience will be smooth as butter. Nelson was always accessible, Made sure everything was just in place starting from morning coffee to the time I went to bed. My experience with the procedure : Dr.Padeep said I'd need about 1400 grafts and He made hairline design and the slits. We had a chat before to get all my questions answered once again but I barely had any because I was confident I was in good hands. One thing you'd notice in Eugenix is they are not commercial. they are not after your money, they are not trying to take every penny from you in every way possible. They treat you like family. Anyway, Dr.Pradeep made me very comfortable throughout the procedure It was never like a surgery, It was just like two friends chatting and having a good time lol! Next Dr.Arika did my extractions and I can't speak enough of her. She is the best. I believe they are like 5 people from India who are members of IAHRS and she is one of them. Her work is world class and I remember a day after the surgery I was upstairs (accommodation they give you is right at the hospital ) and accidentally hit my head to something and I texted her that I was worried if my grafts are damaged as they were just one day old. She immediately came and saw me and made sure everything is okay. I am just saying this to show how much they care and the concern they have for their patients. I remember Dr.Alok also gave me his number and insisted calling me even in the middle of the night if I had a question (which I happened to actually a couple of days later and he answered it on phone ) . you cannot get this level of care and attention anywhere else. I am so happy to have met these guys. Post care: I am just 2 weeks old with the surgery and they created a whats app group with all the docs, and I keep asking any questions and comments and they respond back right away. The only glitch that ever happened in this whole process was - long story short there was a small miscommunication between me and one of the office staff person regarding the number of days of my stay. But when I had to get on a call to clear of the confusion and tried clarifying things, it was not even a debate, they were more than welcoming to whatever my resolution was and made sure I was happy. My final verdict : I couldn't be any happier with them. and especially if you are aboard I seriously encourage you to consider them before making a decision. I can't speak for every doctor in Eugenix but I know for a fact you can't go wrong with Dr. Arika.
  6. Hi Guys, So here I am after many years of research I have made my mind up to get my HT done from Dr Pradeep Sethi and Dr Arika Bansal at their Delhi Centre on 24th April. Apologies in advance I can’t keep this post short because I have been one of the silent readers on this forum for many years and now, I think it is time to share my experience with others. I know there are many people out there like me who are reluctant to travel to India from UK. I hope they get some inspiration and confidence from my post. It took me many years to make up my own mind to get my HT done in India there several factors like long travel time, cost and skills of doctors etc but now I feel there is one Centre out there in India which produces world class results within. I am saying this because I have spoken to lot of their patients in last one and half years and few of them have even posted their results here on this forum. I also know lot of celebrities got their HT done from Dr Pradeep some came out in open and shares their experience and some doesn’t want to for obvious reasons. I have known Dr Sethi and Dr Bansal for more than one and half year now. Spoken to them several times about my concerns and questions and they have my answered my question without getting frustrated. When I first started following them on their YouTube channel they were not even recommended here on this community at that time. I used to think if these guys are so good how come Bill and his team have missed it. I am glad Bill has found them and recommended here because this has given me some confidence that I was on right track and given us more options within India. Even after Eugenix got recommended I waited for their patients to post their results here before I finalized them because personally, I trust the results shared by patients more than posted by clinics. I have compared Eugenix results with other clinics within India and I don’t see any doctor producing FUE results which is equivalent to the results they are producing. Some can disagree with me, but this is my judgement. I have also seen results from doctor who are recommended here and produced some bad results, but I guess every doctor has produced bad results occasionally and it could be due to various reasons. Important notes to fellow HT candidates: Do your research contact the clinic speak to their patients and once you are confident then make up your mind because that is what I did. I have not found any negative results from Eugenix yet. Don’t be put off by negativity surrounded on forums. This is public forum where anybody can post anything about clinics. This happens lot in India because of competition. I did see one negative post from one forum member recently which has put doubts in my mind. I have just called Eugenix and clarified what has happened I am satisfied with their response. We should always hear stories from both sides. Guy who has posted these comments didn’t had surgery with Eugenix but decided to share someone else experience because he himself has chosen different surgeon. I don’t believe in justifying my reason why I have chosen Dr Pradeep Sethi I will post my results here and will do my results do the talking. I can also go on about other doctors and clinics and criticize them why I didn’t shortlist them for my own surgery but I don’t think it is ethical. If my results are not good, I am happy to take criticism and accept blame. I am not sure what was the motive behind him writing negative comments about other clinics. Anyways this post is not about him or others this post is about my own surgery. Little bit about myself Ethnicity: Indian Age: 35 Norwood Scale: 3 HT planned for frontal area Grafts recommended by Drs: 2500-3000 Surgery Date: 24th April 2019 I will try to post my update every month along with my pictures and will continue to share my experience about Eugenix and surgeons to keep this community up to date. Even though I feel I have made the right choice I am bit nervous that how my results will turn out because for doctors I am just another patient but for me it will be life changing experience. I will continue to post my update to help fellow candidates and I look forward to seeing your comments and feedback. Happy to answers questions about my experience after my surgery.Long way to go. Thank,
  7. The index patient had Grade VI plus baldness and decent scalp donor and had a great beard. And the patient had no intention to flaunt a beard ever. He had a washed out temple area and because of which his forehead was looking wide and augmenting his bald look and he was worried about a natural hairline and natural temple. We tried to recreate the hairline and the temple. He had a lighter shade of skin close to Caucasians and the hair-skin colour balance was important in his procedure. His donor scalp was not great, it was average. So we did about 300 grafts on each side of his temple and close to 3000 odd grafts on his frontal zone up to the mid-scalp (we were more concerned about the fronto-temporal angle which was deep) and we did not plant more grafts on the central region and the crown and we deliberately planned more grafts for the next session. The patient started experiencing hair growth and look change towards the end of 3 months and by 6 months he had enough hair for a haircut and a look change! We are posting this result after 6 months and expecting more hair to come within 6 months from now. Note: Temple and hairline
  8. Mr. Singh, a Senior professional from the hospitality industry was referred to us by his friend who is the Ex-Davis Cup Captain of India, indeed he was also one of our patients who became a dear friend after his great results and keeps sending his friends to us. The index patient was 43 years old and had a big forehead along with loss of temples which were giving him a very bald look. He had left with a little bit of hair on the mid-scalp, otherwise he had lost complete hair on the front and crown. We planned his frontal area and temple and tried to cover as much as possible over two days. We did 7100 grafts (5000: scalp; 2100: beard). His planted hair started showing up after 3 months as usual for all of our patients (because of our Direct Hair Transplantation concept, wherein we extract and simultaneously plant the grafts which leads to less post transplant telogen effluvium and we get a fair amount of direct growth of the planted hair.) By one year the temple points were looking extremely natural and the hairline was impeccable in naturalness. He started sending his friends from all across. And we earned a friend in him forever. Attn: Hairline position and naturalness, temple points Total Grafts: 7100 Scalp: 5000 Beard: 2100

  10. Hi everyone! I recently went through a hair transplant few months back in Delhi. I always wanted to post a thread showing my HT journey because I have benefitted a lot from others' on this great forum but unfortunately I couldnt get around to doing that earlier. But nonetheless, I would begin now. Better late than never. So, its 4 months now since my HT. It was about 4000 grafts FUE procedure on the heavily receded temples. I am attaching pictures : 3 pre-op, 1 day of op, 1 few days post-op and four 4-months post-op pics! Any advice or opinion or review is heartily welcome! Do guys think the hair growth is good enough at this point?
  11. Hey guys, im 26 this year have very strong balding genes started from 17 years old now 26 its really starting to show and everyone is concerned. My family are very supportive of me doing a ht before my wedding. I live in malaysia and i plan to do my ht in india. 2 clinics replied me 1 dr.gaurav from dermaclinic and another is dr.arika from eugenix. Eugenix is slightly more expensive but i saw their job with our fellow forum member harin it was a gud job. Any reviews on both clinics and any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks guys
  12. Hi friends, I am planning to get my hair transplant done in Delhi/NCR. I have visited Dr B K Garg (Aravali Clinic) - and he has suggested 4500 grafts at Rs 30/graft FUE. I am planning to get 3000 - 4000 grafts transplanted. Guys any feedback for the doctor? The things which I like is that that the most of the procedure would be done by the doctor in 2 days (even for 3000 grafts) so expecting quality. The doctor has received best doctor's award in HT. The negative is that he is listed in Best Hair Transplant Surgeons for Hair Loss Treatment India as well. Not sure how trust worthy is the chain. I also met Dr. Ashit Gupta (Gurgaon). He quoted 65k for 3000-3200 grafts. Does any body has reviews for him. Also, please share other doctors/clinics reviews if any. I am planning to get it done soon (in a week or two). Thanks
  13. Newbie to the forum.I have been experiencing hair loss since last 15 years and now at age 43, I am Norwood class VI. I am going for 2000-3000 Hair Transplant surgery at Dr Ruby in New Delhi India on december 8th. Had scheduled appointment with Dr. A 2 months in advance for 10th december But received the first jolt and surprise from the clinic after my doctor and date was changed 2 weeks prior to my operation. I will now be operated by Dr. Ruby from same clinic on Dec 8th. Will post my pre and post results and share my experience.
  14. Advanced Hair Studio – Review I am a 26 year old. My family has a history of genetic hair loss. Loosing hair at such an early stage, I decided to look for anti-baldness treatments and finally underwent a surgery at Advanced Hair Studio Clinic in New Delhi. My experience which was not good at all is explained in detail below. I would request all of you who are considering similar treatment to read this and feel free to talk me @ plus nine one - nine nine five eight eight nine one six eight one before making a decision. First Visit I went to visit Advanced Hair studio for a solution to my problem of balding. I was impressed to see the great interiors and nice decor. It looked like a very friendly and amicable place. I met with Sanket with my parents. Sanket started with his rehersed sales pitch. He looked at my hair and said my requirement was for about 6,000 follicles after which I could have a full head with bounce, volume and shine. He suggested that I take a laser therapy with a 1 operation and that should solve my problem. There were two doctors on their panel who them suggested. One charged Rs 70 per follicle and other Rs 130. However, if I decided by the end of the month there could be a discount of Rs 20 on this. Overall, he gave solid sales pitch to convince that this would be the best place. He showed the contacts and photographs of all the celebrities they had treated including the personal phone numbers of a few he had. However, now I realize in the hindsight there were few details he never gave: • The full name of the doctor and his credentials • There was no opportunity to meet the surgeon personally • There was no mention of what kind of therapy each one of their brand ambassadors had undergone. Even minor treatments were projected full hair gain • There were no patient references given • There was great attempt to keep the patient from not talking to the doctor Plus I was promised: • I could return to work next from surgery • It would be a painless affair • I would not need to take any precautions and life would be back to normal after 24 hours. There was a great force in booking the operation date as soon as possible to get the best rates. Next Day on Call We discussed internally and came to the conclusion and we wanted to see the results the laser therapy before undergoing surgery. Sanket called up and we conveyed out decision. On hearing this, he completed changed his words. He said that I MUST go for surgery and not for the laser treatment as it would not yield good results in my case. He backtracked on his initial pitch. But based on his recommendation of 6,000 hair follicles I decided to undergo one surgery of 3,000 grafts in 1 sitting and evaluate the results. Now, here is where the mess starts. On the Operation Day The doctor came in. He was not even aware of who the patient was. He had not looked at the pictures. There was no photographs he was shown. He was also quite disinterested in overall what was communicated. There was major gap in what was told to him and what was promised to him. Apparently, he was told I would be given 4,500 grafts and 3,000. This meant our surgery costs escalated by 50% or 75,000 without even any prior information. He told me that there was NO USE OF GOING FOR 3,000 follicles. He marked on my head showing how much 3,000 follicles would cover. On the day of the surgery this misinformation campaign was happening and we were told that if we do not go through with the surgery today I would have to forfeit my deposit of Rs 50,000. We were angry and frustrated. More than anything doctor told me to get a good hair cover I need 15,000 follicles over 4 sittings. This was completely contrary to what Sanket had informed me about 6,000 follicles over 2 sittings. There was no sync in what the doctor was saying and what was promised and that too 15 minutes before the start of the procedure. Plus, I was extremely unhappy with the amount of cover that even 4,500 follicles would give me. I am apprehensive that I might not as good as I do right now and might have to undergo a second round only to overcome the patchy work of the 1st sitting and hence shelling out so much money. I was now realizing the real truth behind the glamorous looks of studio and the real filth inside and how they mislead their patients at the last moment. The advanced hair studio people were really upset with the doctor for letting me know about the 15,000 follicles. But I decided to go for the surgery only because I had made up my mind and I did not want to loose the money that I had deposited and all the arrangements that have been made. Surgery lasted 6 hours and only overseen by doctors. He gave the local anesthesia and part of it while most of it was handled by him which from the looks of it did not look like a team of doctors, but more like a team of semi-trained nurses. Doctor would continuously take phone calls in the middle of the procedure and also walked out several times for upto 30 minutes to meet clients and people. After having spent so much money, I expected him to at least be fully attentive at the time of surgery. Also, I realized that the Doctor practised at several different places and in fact I could have had the same procedure done by the same doctor at much cheaper rates at the other places he practices. I was paying a great premium without getting any extra service, but only misinformation. Also, I had no way of ensuring that the doctor really gave me 4,500 grafts or less. I could have been 3,000 and I would have no way to know. Now, here is the second big whammy. Post the surgery, I was informed: • I needed to ear a head cap and aband for the next 72 hours • I had an injured head so could not go out • I was put on heavy anti-biotics and sedatives. • I could only work from home for the next few days • Based on the transplanted hair might have to wear a cap for next 6 months -12 months because the patchy transplant. • I should not do any kind of gymming, running and workouts for the 3 weeks • I should not anything thats makes me sweat • I should stay away from alcohol and smoking • I should keep my head as much away from pollution, dust and heat All this meant that: • I could not attend to some very important official meetings and presentations where I needed to go • There were major lifestyle changes I was not informed about I was not informed any of this before I underwent the procedure. Plus, there is always such a huge disconnect between what the doctor says and what the studio promises that I am agast, angry and disappointed. Conclusion • I was prepared for 3,000 follicles but was forced to undergo 4,500 follicles in extremely coercive environment • Doctor and Clinic never speak the same language • I was misinformed about my requirement: 15,000 against 6,000 • I was misinformed about the post surgical precautions • I will not recommend going to Advanced Hair Studio to anyone because they will give you a great sales pitch and convince you, but truth will come as come to the day of surgery • I am still extremely unhappy and sceptical about the results I will get after the first round For people who are planning to undergo such a procedure, here is my advice: • Do not go on the swanky interiors and great sales talk: Always talk to the doctor who will perform the procedure • Be clear on the requirements • Talk to other patients to see if you are prepared for it • It is a big decision which will require you to alter your lifestyle, so be prepared
