Advice for Hair Loss Sufferers Considering Hair Transplant Surgery

My Story

  1. Dr. Lindsey, If you look at the before picture I highlighted above, it seems like there are a number of native hairs both in the transplanted and non-transplanted region. But chucky is correct that picture 5 does not appear this way. It's just a question of clarity. I trust that with additional patient photo samples (including immediately postoperative photos), that the evidence of your work will come through. Thanks for your participation. Bill
  2. That is how a Doc should be introduced to us-- an outstanding Doc with proven credentials giving his endorsement. Obviously, it is Dr. Lindsey's ball to run with, but still, an excellent start. I look forward to seeing Dr. Lindsey's work. Thanks Dr. Feller, Jason
  3. Dr. Lindsey, The results look nice, but I'm not sure they are a true reflection of the result. Here are a few observations/suggestions. The before picture (look carefully) below seems to reveal evidence of a lot of shaved or freshly growing native hair all over the scalp including the areas transplanted. The "bald" before pictures therefore, don't seem to be a true reflection of the patient's balding condition. If my observations are correct, this also means the result can't be properly determined. My observations are also found in what seems a lot of hair growing in the forelock / crown area (despite the fact that there is somewhat of a comb-over effect). The before picture would have you believe that he was completely bald in the transplanted and non-transplanted areas. If you have additional high resolution, closeup pictures of this patient's before condition, this would be helpful in determining the quality of this result. Immediately postoperative photos would also be helpful. Thanks, Bill
  4. Dr. Lindsey, Thank you for introducing yourself. We hope that you'll indulge us by posting recent examples of your results on our discussion forum so our members can evaluate them. I encourage you to follow Dr. Feller's example with the way he posts photos of before, immediately postoperative, and after pictures. Best wishes, Bill
  5. Dr. Feller -- thank you for the info.; I look forward to seeing the photos! Your recommendation certainly carries weight with this particular happily transplanted dude... FYI, Dr. Lindsey's office is about 15 minutes from a major airport (Dulles International). If this looks promising to anyone, I'll be happy to provide a "report" on local hotels, etc...I'm currently living about 10 minutes away. Benjamin
  6. Thank you for that kind introduction Dr. Feller. As Dr Feller wrote I am new to the internet and am just beginning to learn how the site works. Dr Feller has always spoken highly of these websites and has advised me to participate and show as much of my work as possible, which I will do from here on with some assistance from Dr. Feller in the beginning. Thank you, William Lindsey, M.D.
  7. Dr. Feller, Thank you for a formal introduction of Dr. Lindsey. I'm sure the members of our community will look forward to seeing his results posted online. In the meantime however, may I remind you that promotional content is not permitted as per our terms of service. Therefore I have removed the promotional content from your post. I look forward to seeing evidence of the quality of his work. Thanks, Bill
  8. I recently had the opportunity to visit Dr. Williams and his staff as they performed a truly ultra refined procedure in their Henderson office in the Las Vegas area. I found the high quality and refinement of their work very reassuring. After speaking extensively with the clinical staff it was obvious that they had extensive experience and took great pride in the quality of their work and patient results. All grafts are trimmed under microscopes. Graft quality that I observed was excellent. The staff does not sub divide the naturally occurring 1, 2, 3 and 4 hair follicular units when creating grafts. Dr. William and his staff focus on one patient a day and have the capability to do 3,000 graft sessions. Dr. Williams has a strong surgical background and has been performing follicular unit hair transplantation exclusively for the past seven years. He has a very good bedside manner and is very candid with his patients. Patients are also provided with free post op low light laser therapy (LLLT). Dr. Williams and his staff have no doubt that this post op treatment has accelerated both the healing and growth for their patients. Like many other leading hair transplant physicians, Dr. Williams often uses both perpendicular (lateral) and parallel (sagital) graft incisions depending on the area he is transplanting and whether the area has pre-existing hair. He never requires his patients to shave their hair. He uses 0.8 mm cut to size blades for the one hair graft incisions and 0.9 up to 1.1 for two and three hair graft incisions. On the day of my visit the patient had average donor density and extensive baldness. Dr. Williams measured his donor density using magnified video imaging. The patient's donor density was estimated to be 76 follicular units per square centimeter. Given the patients limited donor elasticity Dr. Williams felt that a strip measuring 25 cm long by 1.2 cm average width would be safe and minimize any chance of visible scarring in the donor area. He removed this strip and performed a trichophytic closure using staples to close the donor area. This strip yielded 2,399 grafts consisting of 567 singles hair grafts, 1358 doubles and 474 threes. The patient had no four hair grafts. I was impressed by the way Dr. Williams allocated these grafts to reframe the patient's face and restore his hairline. I also had the chance to see a number of Dr. Williams' patients in person who cane into his office for follow up. Their results were very natural and their growth and density was impressive. Their donor scarring was also very minimal and of no cosmetic significance. In my opinion, the work and results being done by Dr. Williams and his staff are truly ultra refined. Dr. Williams has been recommended on the Hair Transplant Network for the past three years.
  9. muslikcat, Welcome to our community. I agree with Mrjb that continuing with the medication is a good idea. I also recommend taking the time to research all there is to know about hair transplantation - strip verses FUE. In my opinion, FUE is good for smaller sessions overall. If you are already a NW 2.5 or 3 at 23 years old, you may experience a lot more hair loss. This is why a long term game plan is critical to ensure a successful and natural looking hair transplant. In CA, I'd recommend consulting with Dr. William Rassman and Dr. William Reed. Note that Dr. Rassman's prices are higher than the average and I don't believe Dr. Reed does FUE. Both are truly first-rate and ethical hair restoration physicians and members of our coalition. Best wishes, Bill

  12. Pat, Thanks for the detailed account of your visitation to Dr. William's clinic. From the photos presented, I agree that Dr. William's work is ultra refined. Did you also get a chance to take pictures of any of his other patient's that you met that day? I am actually surprised that this particular patient who had surgery that day has a donor supply density of 76 FU per square CM due to its thin appearance. I suppose that's due his hair characteristics being fine and thin - or it at least appears that way from the pictures. Bill
  13. So the deed is done (again). On 10/10/2007, I had 2207 grafts placed by Dr. William Reed. Highlights: -Surgery lasted from 7:45am to 7:00pm -2207 grafts placed total. Approximately 120 grafts (1s and 2s) placed in my temple areas and the remaining placed in the crown. -I had Dr. Reed and 3 techs working on me. Some notes: -My first hair transplant yielded significant shock loss in the donor area. I showed Dr. Reed the pictures of me post-op approximately March 2007. He commented that they looked like the train tracks of the sutures being pulled too tight. Time will tell how the shock loss in the donor area will be from this surgery, but a comparison made between my first closure and this one by non-medical observers is "a day and night difference." This leads to the second note. -Dr. Reed's conservative estimate on consultation was 2700 grafts (again I went into all the consultations trying to get 4000 grafts). However, upon "getting in there," Dr. Reed discovered a 5mm scar in the areas where the back of my head leads to the side of my head, which significantly cut into the number of achievable grafts. I can post pictures if anyone wants to see. My donor area was covered with a pressure bandage for the first night and my head was covered with a bandana, both placed by the Doctor's office. I was instructed not to remove either (which I didn't). I went back yesterday for a shampoo and check up at the Doctor's request. One of the techs also "reset" 3 of my grafts. I just washed my hair myself today and I was instructed to do so twice a day from here on out. I am also going to see him on Monday for a checkup (at my request), he is willing to see me everyday (if I want). I will also be returning on Wednesday for suture removal. I slept on a pillow last night and saw no blood from the donor area leaked onto my pillow, which was a bit of a surprise. My first hair transplant I oozed for 4 days in the donor area. I am feeling good now, I am getting to the end of my Hydrocodone and now onto the 2 Advils every 4 hours. I will save the remaining Hyrdocodone's for falling asleep. No swelling as of yet. I am also on Prednisone and Cephalexin. I was also given furosemide (for swelling, which I have not taken) and Alprazolam for sleeping (I took one on the first night). My experience at Dr. Reeds was great. He seems very straight laced, but him, his staff, and I joked practically the whole day. I was given two (could be three) shots of Versed to make the day go faster. Side note: Text messaging while in surgery and on versed is a very bad idea, when I got home that night and checked out what I actually had sent through the day I was pretty shocked. Obviously, I will reserve my judgements till about 6 months, but things are going pretty well right now. I'll post comparison pictures of my donor area in December to compare the shock loss in the donor area from my first and second hair transplants.
  14. Charger, Welcome to our community, You have been given some excellent advice so from our veteran hair restoration forum members. Hair loss medication such as Propecia and Rogaine are the best lines of defense against future hair loss. You may also want to take a look at what I have written on Scalp Med. Hair transplantation is a viable option for some, but one must plan for the long term. Consulting with one of our coalition physicians is recommended as they perform state of the art ultra refined follicular unit transplantation. The two coalition physicians closest to you are: Dr. Bill Reed Dr. William Rassman. I hope this helps, Bill

Please remember that we will be gathering for a live session EVERY Tuesday at 10:00 PM EST for those who are interested in attending . Our chat session was indeed another success. And the numbers of members who participated proves that our live help/chat feature is becoming increasingly popular which is indeed a good thing. The Hair Transplant Network has truly gone LIVE! Below is a summary of our chat session: The following members attended at least some part of the evening: 1. pawlick57 2. anajj 3. Bill 4. barebegone 5. Ringo 6. Pat - The Publisher of this Community 7. giants 8. bro66 9. NervousNelly 10. Morlock 11. EmuSteve 12. Mark-73 13. Hoping 14. Nobuzz4me 15. Hammy 16. Crouse 17. Janna 18. Dr. William Rassman What an opportunity to get real-time answers from one of our very own and very knowledgable coalition doctors. If you attended the live chat session and your name is not included on the list - please respond on this thread and I will add you. Topics of discussion included but are not limited to: 1. Hair Regeneration/Multiplication 2. Hair Transplant Surgery Post Op Concerns (Pimples, Redness, Working Out After Surgery, etc) 3. Hair Loss Treatments such as Propecia 4. Measuring Recipient Area Density After a Hair Transplant There were many questions posted by many hair loss sufferers that received INSTANT answers from our hair restoration discussion forum veteran members! Your Suggestions/Ideas Wanted Because it is the members of this community that makes this live help/chat feature work, I'm looking for realistic and practical suggestions to make our chat feature even more enjoyable and beneficial for our attendees. I encourage you to provide any suggestions that you think might be helpful on this thread. One thing I will be doing for any potential "down time" in the chat room (if there is any) is throwing out a few topics for our participants to discuss in order to facilitate ongoing discussion. I also recognize that some "down time" in the chat room may be due to the number of private chats going on (which is another great feature of our live chat feature). Of course, any participant at any time is welcome to bring up a topic they would like to know more about. Questions are ALWAYS welcome. No question is a bad question. We are all here to learn. Any suggestions you might have, please feel free to add your thoughts to this thread. Be sure to tune in next time (Tuesday 9/25/2007 at 10:00 PM EST). And don't forget...detailed information on how to use the chat room features can be found here. Best wishes, Bill
  19. Raj, Welcome to our community. Firstly, I recommend not allowing location to be a determining factor in physician selection. Instead choose a physician that has a public reputation of producing consistent positive results. Consider consulting with the following qualified physicians: The below listed physicians are coalition doctors Dr. William Rassman of Los Angeles, CA (be aware that his prices are higher than that of the norm) Dr. William Reed of La Jolla, CA A bit north you have... Dr. Wong of Hasson and Wong in Vancouver, BC Canada Dr. Hasson of Hasson and Wong in Vancouver, BC Canada The below listed physicians are recommended... Dr. Siporin of Los Angeles, CA Dr. Meshkin of Newport Beach, CA Dr. Kabaker of Oaklnd, CA I highly recommend using the "find" feature on this community as well to look up these physicians to see what real patients have been saying about them and to view their patients before/after photo galleries. See also the patient hair loss weblogs as a reference. I hope this gets you started in your research. Bill
  20. nocarrier, Welcome to our community. Though certainly I can understand your desire to get an HT at the most affordable price, please understand that quality should come first. In other words...it's better to pay more money for quality work than go to an unknown doctor because they are more affordable. It's not worth the risk IMO. If you are in Seattle, WA, you are near some excellent surgeons: Be sure to check out these elite surgeons who are closest to you, in no particular order: 1. Hasson and Wong in Vancouver, BC Canada 2. Dr. Rassman in Los Angeles, CA (though he is a bit more pricey) 3. Dr. William Reed in La Jolla, CA 4. Dr. Sharon Keene in Tucson, AZ If you don't have the funds currently, consider waiting... Have you consulted with anyone yet? Where are you on the Norwood scale? Are you on any medication to prevent future hair loss? Do you have any pictures you can post of your hair loss situation? Let us know how else we can assist you. Bill
  21. Hello everyone, i have been thinking about this lately after i been reading several posts. there was one post about HT doctors in Chicago, and the only coalition doctor in chicago was Dr. Raymond Konior another post came up a female who went to a coalition doctor by the name of William Reed. now, i know they are coalition doctors, and Pat checked out their work before they became a coalition doctor, but i beleive their work should be out there more. besides not seeing their results on patients since i became a member in december 06, i have not see other coalition doctors works either. just to name a few Leonard E. Aronovitz, D.O. Glenn Charles, D.O Edmond I. Griffin Robert Haber, M.D Sharon Keene, MD(i think i only seen one work of hers and it wasnt too good, confirm?) Raymond Konior, MD Dr. Bernard Nusbaum Thomas Chung Wai William Reed Dr. Arthur Tykocinski not only should these doctors showcase their work for potential patients to see so they can get a feel of what to expect, it also keeps a good line of competition. competition from different doctors will benefit patients and doctors as doctors have a need to keep up with current techniques and patients benefit as they get better results. now i know you may be thinking, competition is bad for business right? well i dont think so in this case. The average price per graft is 3$ and has stayed at that constant price for quite a while, most ht doctors are booked in advance by 4 months(or so atleast i heard), which doesnt give a reason for ht doctors to need to decrease price from direct competition. also in this industry, price is one of the last things you look at, you are looking for quality results. Also the HT industry is expanding significantly, and there and more and more members on the Hair transplant network. H&W, Feller and a few other Doctors are booked months in advance and many people recommend people to have their work with these doctors, i just feel that we should widen our horizons and be able to recommend more doctors. with all that being said, i just feel a need that all coalition doctors post patient results at least once every 6 months. and last but not least, i couldnt see why these doctors would not want to do it, its basically like how i would say it, "free advertisement"?

  23. Hi Friends, Thanks a looot for all your suggessions. Now I dropped my idea of going to Hair Club and planning to go to Dr. William Reed at La Jolla, California. He is a member of the coalition, so I assume I am in right direction. Please let me if know your thoughts. Thanks Heman
  24. Pat, Have you asked the following doctors who are part of your list (including some on the coalition) why they are part of the Hairlossdoctorlist.com? I think it is great that you recommend them here. They are all fine doctors. Why would 4 of your "coalition" members choose to do this, if you say the other site is not ethical? Dr. James Harris, MD Dr. Bobby Limmer MD (coalition member) Dr. Bradley Limmer MD (coalition member) Dr. William M. Parsley MD Dr. Bernard Nusbaum MD (coalition member) Dr. Jerry Cooley MD (coalition member) Dr. Michael Beehner, MD Bill, Since you clearly posted a lie in the other forum about these doctors not meeting the standards here, would you kindly go back to the other forum and explain why you chose to defame them?
