Advice for Hair Loss Sufferers Considering Hair Transplant Surgery

  1. I'm split between the two Turkey would be about 7k including flight and overnight stay while Chicago would be 10k

  3. At the age of 25, I started losing my hair causing a noticeable and unappealing receding hairline. Unfortunately, my change in appearance and rapid progression of hair loss over the years drastically lowered my self-esteem and self- confidence. In 2010, I began educating myself on the different types of hair restoration procedures and inquiring about local Chicagoland and Out-of-State Physicians specializing in hair transplantation. Some of the important factors and reasons why I chose Dr. Vladimir Panine over the other surgeons was the in-depth consultation process with Stuart (Dr. Panine’s Consultant) and the time Dr. Panine spent with me explaining the procedure from start to finish. Both Stuart and Dr. Panine answered all my questions alleviating my fears, and addressing my concerns. Dr. Panine also spent a considerable amount of time drawing and mapping out a hairline that would be age appropriate and suitable for me as I continue to age. Unlike other Physicians and consultants, Dr. Panine and/or Stuart never pressured me into having a surgical procedure. Actually, they were very professional and went above and beyond to accommodate my needs and expectations. After viewing several photo albums and learning about Dr. Panine’s past educational background and surgical experience, I left the consultation feeling very confident with Dr. Panine, his staff, and his artistic work. On the surgery day, I was somewhat anxious. Dr. Panine and his team made me feel relaxed and they eased my anxiety with medication and their comforting support. Once again, he explained the entire procedure and shared with me the hairline we agreed upon prior to the hair transplant procedure. Virtually, I slept through most of the surgery and experienced minimal pain. Dr. Panine is one of the few physicians that actually perform the surgery himself (including making the surgical sites, removing the donor tissue, and placing the grafts) and who is actively involved throughout the entire procedure until completion. Unfortunately, while shopping online for a Hair Transplant Surgeon, I had read many reviews from dissatisfied hair transplant patients stating that unlicensed and inexperienced healthcare professionals did a majority of the procedure versus the Physician. As we all know, hair transplantation surgery is very labor intensive, time consuming and costly, and deserves full attention of artistic and experienced Physicians. It has been 2 years from my surgery and I could not be happier with my results. I would like to share my results with individuals out there looking for an excellent hair transplant surgeon not only in the Chicagoland area, but for those that live anywhere. Based on my experience with Dr. Panine, his staff and my results I would be willing to speak to anyone looking for an excellent hair transplant surgeon please feel free to contact me.

  5. I wanted to share my experience with Dr. Vladimir Panine, Surgical Coordinator Stuart Rosenberg, and his staff based on a recent scar revision and hairline graft procedure. To put it succinctly, I highly recommend Dr. Panine and would go to him again for any future procedures. Prior to visiting Dr. Panine, I had three FUT procedures with MHR, in 2005, 2007, and 2009. I went with them primarily due to awareness from the ongoing television ads and direct marketing they did. In hindsight, I did not do enough research to determine the best doctors, and I just went with what I was most aware of. I received a total of 3500 grafts across the three procedures. The grafting results were satisfactory, although I was unsatisfied with the linear scar that grew larger with each procedure. In each of the three procedures, the closures were basic stitches, took about 15 minutes to close, and were removed around the 9-10 day period. With the help of this site, I researched a number of practices offering scar revision options. I explored FUE, scalp micropigmentation, and FUT scar repair. After speaking with and visiting multiple practices in the Chicago and Minneapolis area, I decided to go with Dr. Panine. I especially appreciated Dr. Panine and Stuart’s honest and candid assessment and recommendation. I came in requesting FUE because I didn’t want to deal with another linear scar. They indicated that they could do FUE, although it would likely take multiple procedures, and there was no guarantee as to how well the grafts will take due to the limited blood flow into the existing scar. They indicated that they could do an FUT scar removal and revision as my scalp still had some laxity, although I would need to do scalp exercises for a few weeks leading up to the procedure. In essence, they ensured that I understood I had some control on the success of the procedure. I asked if we could also do another grafting procedure and get a few thousand more grafts to transplant up top as long as they were going back in and making a new linear cut. Although this would have resulted in a more expensive procedure, they recommended against it due to the amount of tension it would place on the existing scar. In essence, it would defeat the purpose of a scar revision. They indicated that they could likely get around 300 grafts by doing the revision as some hair would be cut out when removing the existing scar, and they could transplant those if we wanted. But they did not guarantee any more than that as they did not want to mislead me. Based on this, we decided to move forward with the FUT scar revision and placement of approximately 300 grafts in my left frontal hairline area where some thinning was noticeable. In the days leading up to the procedure, Stuart was in touch to ensure I understood procedure, scalp exercises, medication, etc. It was clear he was invested in ensuring the procedure was a success. On the day of the procedure, Dr. Panine and his staff did everything to ensure I understood the process. I didn’t expect it, but I actually enjoyed the procedure. A few key points about the procedure itself, as compared to the three previous MHR procedures I had: · Communication: Dr. Panine, Stuart, and his staff were in constant communication during the procedure. They explained what they were doing at all times, constantly asking me how I was doing, and ensuring I was comfortable. · Zero to minimal pain: I was used to pain to the point of nausea from my three previous procedures, primarily from the administering local anesthesia. It was just something I had grown accustomed to suffering through for a few hours. During Dr. Panine’s procedure, I felt minor pain similar to a needle prick for the first shot of local anesthetic in the donor area. After that I felt no pain at all. Just pressure. He constantly asked if I was feeling any pain – his primary concern was that I was comfortable at all times. He even indicated how he typically conducted his procedures with the patient sitting upright so they feel more comfortable, as opposed to lying face down as being operated on. I was still able to fall asleep sitting up during the procedure as well. · Scar revision: Dr. Panine took approximately two hours to do this. He took extreme care with the cut, using the trichophytic closure where the hair will grow back through the scar. He used dissolving internal stiches, a long running external stitch, and singular external stiches where needed. To me, the time he spent on the actual revision and closure reflected the level of focus and perfection he places on this. · Graft placement: From what I could tell Dr. Panine placed most to all of the grafts himself. During this time, we would chat occasionally, but there were times where he indicated that he would not be chatting because he wanted to focus on some of the more precise components of the procedure. Again, I appreciated his focus. · Number of grafts: Although we committed to approximately 300 grafts being harvested and placed as a result of the scar revision, Dr. Panine was able to obtain and place 851 grafts during the procedure. This was due to a few factors, including my scalp laxity increasing in the weeks leading up to the procedure from the scalp exercises Dr. Panine and Stuart had me do. Although this required a few additional hours for the procedure and could have been a higher cost, Dr. Panine and Stuart indicated that they would not charge me extra for the additional grafts. They explained that they typically agree to and honor a set cost with the patient prior to the procedure, as opposed to asking them to sign off on paying more if they are able to harvest additional grafts during the procedure while the patient is under the influence of medications. Again, this really conveyed their honesty to me. As I left, Dr Panine and Stuart both indicated that I could call them at any time with any questions or concerns. I returned to the clinic the next day to have bandages removed and hair lightly washed, along with a review of instructions. I have had a couple family members in the medical industry look at the scar revision, and indicate that they can tell already that he did a precise job and it will heal well, noting that hair is already touching hair above and below the stiches. I returned to the clinic at 15 days to have stitches removed. Scar is healing nicely, scalp tension is minimal and improving every day, and I have no pain at all. I’ll try to post some photos around the six and 12 month marks to show results. But ultimately, I’m very appreciative of the work of Dr. Panine, Stuart, and his staff, and would highly recommend them to anyone considering a procedure.
  6. I started loosing my hair 3-4 years ago. I have tried so many hair products to re-grow my hair but to no avail. Fortunately one of my friend decided to have a hair transplant from Dr. Panine and had a very good result with it, so I was encouraged to schedule a consultation. Called Dr. Panine's office, I spoke to Stuart and just from the initial conversation he will put you right at ease. Stuart was accomodating and was never pushy. He answered all my questions over the phone, so I scheduled a consultation with him and Dr. Panine. Upon consultation Stuart advised me on what needed to be done and what to realistically expect from the surgery. My concerns was my temple and crown area so Stuart had Dr. Panine check my donor site to check if there would be enough donor hair to cover the area, and Dr. Panine said there was enough. So I had the surgery 1/21/13. Dr. Panine had the lightest hand ever. The procedure itself was like being in a spa, I was so relaxed. Never did I experience any pain during the cutting and grafting. The worst part was going home because of the cold weather, lol!!! All in all experience was good, nothing horrible to right! Any body considering hair transplant, PLEASE Check Dr. PANINE and STUART!! You wont regret it! In my opinion they are the best in the business, if I need it again they are the only one I am going to. Thanks a million Dr. Panine and Stuart! You guys rock! Photos to follow.
  7. trb88m If you are from IL, you have some excellent surgeons that I strongly recommend you consider. But don't take my word for it. Research this community and see what their patients are saying for themselves. Dr. Ray Konior Dr. Vladimir Panine Dr. Richard Keller I've listed them in no particular order, but all of them are excellent and worth considering. All of them have passed vigorous standards and have been approved for the Coalition of Independent Hair Restoration Physicians. If you have any additional questions, don't hesitate to post here or send me a private message. Best wishes, Bill
  8. Patient is a 60 year old male with a class 6 pattern of hair loss. Patient came in with the expectation of having a conservative hairline with templle recession that he would be able to comb straight back after one session. He understood that all the grafting would be done in the frontal half of head and that he would not have the density that he had before losing his hair. We did 1346 single hairs, 1319 2 hair follicular units, and 447 3 hair follicular units for a total of 3,112 grafts and 4,426 hairs.
  9. Patient is a 31 year old with a Norwood Class IIIv. After consulting with several surgeons and meeting with Dr. Panine twice, he elected to have his procedure with Dr. Panine. Prior to his surgery he expressed his concerns and expectations. His concern was additional hairloss, which Dr. Panine addressed by putting him on Propecia and explaining to him that it does not work for everyone but does have a 90% success rate. His expectations were to have a natural hairline, add density to the frontal 1/3, and thicken the crown. Dr. Panine told him that Hair Restoration is an excellent alternative for correcting his hairloss. He also explained to him that he will have a natural hairline, but it will be slightly higher than his original hairline was with some temple recession. The reason for this is so that it will look good for him as he gets older, which a juvenile hairline will not. Also it was explained to him that he will have good density, but not quite the density of his hair prior to any hairloss. It was also explained to him that one session should give him an excellent result, but if further hairloss continues he might need an addition session. The break down of his procedure was 1,430 single hairs 1,360 2-3 hair grafts for a total of 2,790 grafts.
  10. This month's Hair Transplant Patient of the Month is Ginkgo, who underwent a 4,749 graft Follicular Unit Strip Surgery (FUSS) with Dr. Vladimir Panine. After completing extensive research, Ginkgo decided to undergo a strip procedure with Dr. Panine. Ginkgo selected Dr. Panine as his hair transplant surgeon because of his excellent reputation, impressive results, and his meticulous eye for detail. During the procedure, Dr. Panine extracted 4,749 grafts via the strip method and used these follicular units to rebuild Ginkgo's hairline, frontal scalp, partial midscalp, and partial vertex region. Ginkgo states that Dr. Panine was involved in all aspects of the procedure, from strip extraction to graft placement, and he couldn't be happier with his surgical experience. Recently, Ginkgo updated the community with his final results, and his transformation is excellent! To review his final results, please see the following: My Excellent Results with Dr. Panine. Please join me in congratulating Ginkgo on his excellent results!
  11. 62 year old with was a Norwood class6 who went from a combover to combing his hair straight back after 1 session of 3,608 grafts. Post-op pictures are 14 months later.
  12. 31 year old with a class 3 pattern of hair loss that was looking to augment hairline and add density to the frontal 1/3 of scalp. We did 2,455 grafts and the results are 11 months post-op. Patient had elected to go on propecia post transplant and still remains on Propecia.
  13. 48 year old with a class IIIV pattern of hair loss. He had 2,650 grafts. The breakdown was 1098 single hairs that were all used int the frontal area of scalp, 853 2 hair grafts, and 699 3 hair grafts for a total of 4,901 hairs. Post op pictures 10 months after surgery.
  14. This gentleman had a couple previous surgeries by another doctor and was left with a large scar in the donor area. He came to us to see if we could do any kind of scar revision to allow him to cover up the scar better. He will still be left with a scar but much smaller and will be able to cover the remaining scar easier now with his own hair.
  15. 50 years male with a class4v. One session of 3,270 grafts 1320 single hair 941 2 hairs 979 3 hairs total of 6,169 hairs moved post-op picturs are 14 months post-op
  16. Patient is a 52 year old gentleman class 4 vertex hair loss pattern. Previously had transplants 12 years ago by another clinic where they supposedly did 800 grafts that were disbursed throughout his entire scalp. He came to us with the expectation of having a very conservative hairline with temple recession and adding more density to mid area and crown. We did 2,640 grafts. 1241 singles and 1399 doubles for a total of 4.039 hairs.
  17. 57 year old gentleman with a class 4v pattern hair loss. We did 2,240 grafts, pateint had average donor area for that reason we only did 2,240 grafts did not want create a bad scar in donor which might of happened had we chose to remove a larger strip. We where still able to create a good difference with the amount of grafts used. Post-op pictures are 7 months post-op and results will continue to improve over the next 5+ months.
  18. Hey guys, just getting a thread started here, I'm 27 years old, with a receding hairline, although it's not too terribly bad. Anyway, I just got my stitches removed, and i'm basically waiting for the hair to grow in. Basically, I chose Dr. Panine because it seems to me his before and after pics are the best looking cases i've seen, especially for hairlines, really he's good at everything and pretty much does everything. Anyway, when i get the pics downloaded i will show before and after pics, as well as pre surgery and post surgery pics, and updates on a weekly/monthly basis. Honestly, I think this guy really understands hair better than just about anyone. I can tell you for sure that Dr. Panine and his assistant Stewart, are some of the most sincere, genuine guys i've ever met in my life. We had a few discussions and it is apparent to me that these guys really do care about helping you look your best. I cannot say enough about how professional they are. Like I said, be expecting pictures tomorrow.
  19. 55 year old male classIII. We did one session of 3,114 grafts. The break down was 1512 1 hair units, 1,281 2 hair units, and 321 3 Hair units. For a total of 5,037 hairs moved.
  20. 58 year old male ClassIV had 1 session of 2,814 grafts. 1145 single hairs, 812 2 hair grafts, 857 3 hair grafts for a total of 5,340 hairs. Post op pictures are 14 months post-op.
  21. Patient was 40 years old class IIIv when we did his procedure. He happen to stop in the clinic to wish us a happy holiday and I took some post-op pictures. Sorry we did not take as detailed pre-op pictures back then and most of the pre-op pictures had wet hair. Hopefully you can appreciate how well his transplants look today. We did 2,395 grafts the break down was as follows: 554 single hair grafts, 978 2 hair grafts, and 1,352 3 hair grafts for a total of 5,588 hiars
  22. Patient was a 37 year old male with a class III pattern of hair loss. He was starting to get very uncomfortable with not being able to style he hair the way he want to any more. After consulting with Dr. Panine and explaining that he wanted to be able to comb his hair back with out any detection that he had a transplant he felt comfortable enough to go forward with the procedure. Here are his results 9 month post-op. The break down of grafts were as follows 1153 singles , 869 2 hair grafts, and 290 3 hair grafts, for a total of 3,821 hairs that were transplanted
  23. Dear Forum Members, As many of you know, we gather as much information as possible about a physician, their staff, technique and track record before they are even considered for recommendation on the Hair Transplant Network. Part of our review process involves getting input from patients and the members of this forum community. To learn more about this review process, click here. I would appreciate this community's input on the potential recommendation of Dr. Vladimir Panine of River Grove, IL on the Hair Transplant Network. At this time, Dr. Panine is only being considered for recommendation, not the Coalition. To see our standards for recommendation, click here. Dr. Panine of Chicago Hair Transplant Clinic has over 14 years of experience in surgical hair restoration and performs hair transplant surgery as the primary part of his practice. He and his experienced staff averaging 6 years of experience can perform over 3000 follicular unit grafts in a single session when appropriate for patient. In addition to a showcase of impressive results, Pat Hennessey, Publisher of the Hair Transplant Network visited with Dr. Panine and observed him and his staff in live surgery last year. After observing Dr. Panine and his staff in surgery, Pat felt that his work was truly state of the art. Unfortunately due to technical issues, the photos taken by Pat during his visit were lost and thus, highlights from Pat's visit have not been posted. However, to see photo examples of Dr. Panine and his staff performing surgery, click here. Adaptability and flexibility are vital ingredients Dr. Panine includes to produce a successful and natural looking hair transplant. Dr. Panine creates a combination of parallel (sagital) and perpendicular (coronal/lateral) incisions at an appropriate angle to mimic the patient's natural direction of hair growth. Dr. Panine typically densely packs up to 40 FU/cm2 when appropriate depending on the patient's goals and area of baldness. He believes it's better to add additional density in a second procedure to protect the scalp's vascularity and maximize hair growth yield from the first procedure. Dr. Panine uses minimally invasive techniques to ensure minimal trauma to the scalp and maximum growth yield. Dr. Panine harvests the donor strip using a single blade to minimize transection and uses the trichophytic closure technique exclusively to minimize the appearance of the scar. By using a single running stitch with individual sutures in between, Dr. Panine feels he can minimize tension on the wound and create an optimal scar. Dr. Panine's experienced staff carefully trims all follicular units under microscopes and inserts them into tiny recipient incisions made by Dr. Panine. Given Dr. Panine's and his staff's extensive experience and dedication to state of the art hair transplantation, I believe he should be considered for recommendation. 24. Hey guys, This is a Dr whos work I kind of "stumbled across" whilst scouring this site as I often do. I found myself hugely impressed with a lot of his results, and therefore searched a little more. Only to find much the same. It seems that his results : graft ratio seem extraodinary. Its a Dr that I had honestly never heard of before, or at least not remembered. It doesnt seem that his name is banded around often. Just wanted to know others opinions, and if any current active users have experienced a HT with this Doc. Thanks.
