  1. I agree with everything said here but there is an excpetion to the rule: I had my HT done at H&W and talked to Mike Ferko. I know Jotronic and Doug also do consultations for them and all three of these guys are as good as gold. I evetually met with Dr. Hasson, but I can see how consultants can be used to handle some of the work to allow the doc have his attention focused on the surgery. I've also talked with Matt at Shapiro's office, and he seemed very honest and helpful too. I know that consultant was a dirty word for a long time thanks to Bosley, MHR, and the like, but I think there are some good ones out there that are breaking the mold.
  2. Hey, just so you know there's been talk on HLH about Dr. Hasson saying that toppik on the recipient could be bad. Haven't got a confirmation yet from the clinic but just to warn you to lay off it (in the recipient) if you can.
  3. Eloquence, I would think the first step would be to determine if your hair loss is really due to stress, or female pattern baldness. You might get another opinion from a dermatologist. Dr. Rose is a hair transplant surgeon and a dermatologist. You could contact him. Most docs can do phone consultations these days. Just take some digital pics and email them. I would suggest consulting with everyone on your list and then some. See what they have to say. I would also add Hasson & Wong to your list (Vancouver) as they are very ethical doctors. There are a lot of snakes in this industry, so be careful and take your time. There's no shortage of docs out there that will be glad to take your money, tell you what you want to hear, and you could be worse off then when you started. On the other hand, there's some good guys out there too, but you must do your research. BTw- I think it's against the rules to post links to other forums, but there are other forums specifically for women with hairloss. It probably wouldn't hurt to talk to other women in your siuation. One other thing- any particular reason why you want to hide it from your parents? If you have their support, it will make all the difference in the world. GOOD LUCK!
  4. The real value of this community is in helping patients find their way to the very best clinics. The process of selecting such clinics for presentation on this community has involved visiting clinics, examining patient results and techniques, attending hair restoration conferences and gathering input over the past seven years from actual patients. The feedback from actual patients on this forum and in private emails is a very important reality check. In many ways I think of the members of this community as the legislative body, whose collective vote is very influential in ultimately determining who is selected for recommendation on our community and who remains recommended. It is essential that patients have a forum for sharing both successes and failures. But it is just as important that this feedback be seriously considered. Thus I appreciate Embarrassed1 bringing his experience to light. Based on his input, my past experiences with Dr. Williams and recent conversations I've come to the following conclusions: That Dr. Williams embraced the use of tiny cut to size blades to make lateral incisions after he was impressed by the results Hasson and Wong were achieving for their patients. I believe that Dr. Williams committed to doing this ultra refined procedure almost two years ago in order to provide his patients with very refined and dense results. Prior to doing these new and more demanding ultra refined procedures, Dr. Williams had a proven track record of successful results and growth previously when he was doing standard follicular unit grafting. However, as the hair transplant procedure becomes increasingly more refined and large such sessions also become more difficult and demanding to perform successfully. As Dr. Williams pointed out in his above reply, tiny grafts and tiny incisions make the grafts more fragile and vulnerable to damage and thus poor growth. Thus performing such demanding procedures successfully requires the entire staff to be at a high skill level. My sense is that when Embarrassed1 and a few others had their ultra refined surgeries at least one technician was not up to pare in performing this technique. Thus months later the growth rate of their transplants was compromised. While I sympathize with Dr. Williams frustration in getting all his staff members in the past to be fully committed to quality, ultimately the "buck stops" with the surgeon. I'm encouraged by Dr. Williams's willingness to take responsibility for his patients' outcome and his willingness to compensate them with free surgery and or compensation. I also find some reassurance in his willingness to identify and remove staff members who proved not to be adequate and to replace them with technicians who are. Dr. Williams has assured me that his staff and patients results are now consistently excellent. But I think that myself and the members of this community need to see evidence of such results and to hear from a number of satisfied patients before Dr. Williams is again recommended on this community. I trust that Dr. Williams will indeed be able to demonstrate such results on our forum in the coming weeks and again earn our trust and recommendation. But until this occurs, I must error on the conservative side in no longer recommending him on our community until sufficient evidence is made available on this forum to restore confidence in his clinic. I also want to apologize to Embarrassed1 and any patients who may have relied on this site's recommendation of Dr. Williams in making their choice and then did not achieve optimal growth. I think we have all suffered a disappointment regarding this situation and I'm committed to do what I can to avoid a repeat. 5. Thanks for the feedback. I have to admit, I was looking at your photos ahead of time and your hair is 'close' to mine, but yours is a bit thicker, especially in the hairline. The logic behind Dr. Hasson's explanation of why shaving is required is certainly sound, but it makes covering up that much more difficult. Perhaps if I do it in smaller stages so that minimal shaving is required each time? It's funny - I keep seeing photos of people going from nearly fully-bald to having lots of hair, but there seem to be relatively few instances of people who just want to 'thicken' things up.
  6. This guy was getting his HT with Dr. Hasson on the same day I was getting mine with Dr. Wong. He ended up getting 7000+ grafts (second highest for Dr. H). His procedure lasted until 11 PM. His donor strip was 35 cm x 2.5 cm.
  7. Graphs, whoaaaaaa, another lucky bastard with stretchy skin and lotsa density, i remember him posting about his upcoming surgery and stuff asking questions and now hes done, bammm, 7046 graphs in 1 sitting on 2/20/06 with Dr. Hasson, oh yeah do a search on Iceman, i dont know why he hasnt posted here yet (this site), but his pictures are out there
  8. Gorpy, I don't see how my post is condescending but if that is how it appears then I certainly did not mean for it to be. My intent was to address the notion of the docs placing the grafts in the hairline and that they are best qualified. This may very well be the case in other clinics and there is nothing wrong with that. As a matter of fact, I don't doubt it is the case in other clinics. I was challenging the notion that this should be true as a blanket statement for all clinics. Both Dr. Wong and Dr. Hasson will be the first to say that their technicians can place grafts better than they can so I believe that when one says that the doctor should be the only one to place grafts I again respectfully disagree. The technicians, only senior staff, do this all day every day and have so for years.
  9. Dr. Shapiro, Great to see you participating on the boards. Dr. Hasson is out of town at the moment but I'll be sure to point our your questions so he can respond when he returns.
  10. Hello guys, Finally it's done!!! I have had my 2nd procedure with Dr. Wong, and words can't explain how happy I am. Everything went as I had hoped. It was an amazing experience and I am very happy with how everything turned out. Dr. Wong harvested 3522 grafts (initial plan was 3000 grafts). Placement was not exactly same as what we had planed over the phone consultation. My main goals were to balance the hairline and fill in the crown, but once Dr. Wong saw me in person he advised that we should not touch the hairline since it's already too low and it might be difficult to meet the ends if I lose more hair in the future. So we started working about half cm behind the hairline (see the pictures). Also he advised not to be very aggresive on the crown, but he put enough to cover the thin areas. So the final breakdown was --- 800 singles in the frontal hair line zone (1 inch in from the hairline), about 800 grafts on crown, and rest on top. I think this should give me pretty good coverage to hide the thinning. He said that he can harvest another 2500-3000 more grafts in the future if I ever need to go back. Also, on the same day I was having the procedure, there was this other fellow who posts on different forum - I think his forum name is iceman. He was having procedure with Dr. Hasson and he ended up getting 7000+ grafts!! Anyway, Dr. H & W do amazing work, their staff was extremely knowledgable and ofcourse we all know how supportive Joe and Doug are. Thanks everyone at Hasson & Wong. KG
  11. Dr. Shapiro, Many thanks for your kind words regarding the work that we perform at H&W. Coming from you we could not receive any better compliment. All, It is really rewarding to see a physician of the stature of Ron Shapiro starting to adopt our philosophy in hair restoration surgery. Hopefully other physicians will follow Dr. Shapiro's lead and that one day large sessions of ultra refined follicular unit transplantation will become the standard of care in our specialty. I'm certain that Dr. Shapiro's continued involvement on these forums will provide much new insight and depth to the online discussions. Victor Hasson MD
  12. Gfunk, I would recommend consulting with Drs. Jeffrey Epstein, Robert Bernstein, Ron Shapiro, and Hasson and Wong. They are all very skilled at doing repairs. I have also heard that Dr. James Vogel and Dr. Jack Fisher are also very skilled at doing repairs. GuitarPlayer
  13. Energize, In your general vicinity, I would recommend checking out Dr. Keene in Tucson, and Drs. Hasson and Wong in Vancouver. These doctors all have a reputation for doing outstanding work. I believe all of these docs offer online consults as well. Good luck in your search. GuitarPlayer
  14. Dr. Hasson really hit this one out of the park. If this guy has so much more donor hair available, perhaps he'd like to donate some to the rest of us poor slobs with only average donor. LOL
  15. Some of you have heard of this case while in our office. Others may have heard the rumor. Well, here it is. 7180 grafts in one session. His donor density was above average. His laxity was excellent. Obviously it played to his favor.
  16. Super8mm, Dr. Stow seems to be fairly well known amongst physicians. However, I can't recall ever hearing much about him or his work on this forum. I suggest you consult with Dr. Gabel in Portland and or also Hasson and Wong who do surgery in Vancouver, Canada. To learn more about both of these recommended clinics, click here.
  17. Thanks again GuitarPlayer....it's truely a huge compliment to be put in the category of Futzy. But, the kudos have to be passed along to Dr.Hasson and Staff...they are the reason for such results.
  18. Over at the other forum, no disrespect to Pat and this forum but it took me forever to figure it out over there and i havent even tried here yet, anyway this is a duplicate post i put up over there. Check them out and form your own opinion on my first surgery with Dr. Ron Shapiro, when i look at them now i think he did me VERY well, ive come along way so far and ive got a way to go but hey thats why im here posting and sharing instead of drinking and joking with my other friends, today i went to Shapiros clinic to get these pics and met Dr Haber & Dr. Paul Rose, they all checked out my surgery from Dr. Hasson and commented that the work was excellent and i was going to look great, Dr. Shapiro also commented that i had more donor left, F@CK YEAH today was a good day!!!!!!!. Im trying to share this so that anyone with recession as bad as mine was can have hope of letting it grow out and not having to shave to a #1 every 2 frickin days. Another thing is yeah i know im one UGLY MOFO but soon my hair might cover my face hahahaha, and it hasnt effected my success much because i got a great woman, make good money and overall not depressed about this shit, i just have the power to change it now and im gonna use it. Thanks for following so far and i will try to update my progress, oh yeah my girl took out my staples yesterday, yeah it stung like a beotch Sincerely, Mudpuppy
  19. You are going to be totally happy with your results I am, I have had two sessions with DR. HASSON 1760 midscalp and 1420 in the crown.I cannot believe I have a full head of hair again.Icannot thank DR. HaSSON enough, he truly performs miracles.
  20. Good luck with your procedure. You should have a great result with Dr. Hasson. He has an excellent reputation for providing superior results.
  21. Hey everybody. I have been enjoying reading all of your posts and seeing your photos. Thanks so much for sharing. Attached is a recent wet head photo. These forums are the most valuable part of my research. I was scheduled with whom I thought was the best HT surgeon - and he was local -until I stumbled apon this forum and elevated my awareness tremendously. I fly out to Vancouver one week from today and am scheduled for 3,500 grafts with Dr. Hasson. Today is my 49th birthday and I am SO excited about next week. Woohooo! dadpool

  23. Hello, im 8 days today 3297 graphs from Dr. Hasson, today i was more aggressive with my shampooing still not putting my head under the spray though, im using a small bucket still, a circular motion (small circles) more aggressive and working the shampoo in, a couple hours after it dried i did the same small circles to get rid of scabs and dry skin, it worked great and at 8 days i feel confident the graphs are in solid, yesterday i rubbed aloe vera (no alcohol) all over my graphs and my staples, just soaked it in, it felt great but you gotta be careful because it dries real sticky. Dr. Hassons office doesnt use the spray anymore he said just wash it and keep it clean, i still mixed up my own spray bottle of Aloe and water it just feels to good not to spray down the graphs, Doc said thats fine. At day 9 and after i will be more aggressive at removing scabs and dead skin but never using my fingernails to pick at it. Today my donor area is a bit irritated and sore but my recipient area feels fine
  24. Had a great conversation with Dr. Ron Shapiro, i didnt have an appt. but the Doc made time for me and he was pretty busy, he made sure EVERYTHING was ok with me, we discussed all of my concerns and why i went to Dr. Hasson for my 2nd procedure, in my opinion it was all just a misunderstanding and Dr. Shapiro is a real "GEM" of a person, he looked at Dr. Hassons work and said it was fantastic, he explained to me in detail about my particular case and why he took the approach he did, after seeing my before photos and where i started---WOW, the amazing thing is im only 10.5 months from my first session and i have 5820 graphs from Dr. Ron Shapiro and Dr. Hasson--WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, im feeling very fortunate about that, There is no bad vibes between these two clinics both Docs speak highly of the other one. I gave Doc Shapiro the following feedback and he agreed, if i would have had my before photos to compare his procedure i could have seen a way better picture of things and where i was at, Dr. Hassons office gave me a disc of my pics before i went home, i told Dr. Shapiro they could use more of an internet presence like a "Jotronic" (respectfully) to represent his work online and present some larger cases, Doc agreed but said its a fine line to walk on the internet and not get involved in the B.S. that takes place sometime. Overall i feel really good about everything and i believe everything happens for a reason wich led me to start with the Great Dr. Shapiro and then led me to the great Dr. Hasson. Im waiting for Dr. Shapiro to E-mail me my photos of where it began, then you can form your own opinions Sincerely, Mudpuppy
