Advice for Hair Loss Sufferers Considering Hair Transplant Surgery

  1. @Gasthoerer I totally agree that DHI may not be for everyone because some people are actually better suited for FUT but I can’t see advantage of pre-made slits versus stick&place. Pre-made slits start to close immediately after being opened and accumulate fat&blood this means the hole/slit has to be wider than doing the surgery with stick&place that also uses the same blade but it’s 1 slit opened and 1 graft inserted at a time thus reducing the size of the hole/slit. This is why Dr. Raymond Konior one of the best in the world does stick&place. For DHI like you told me, it’s the best and the only technique I would chose for a HT without shaving.
  2. @ready4Hair currently the rock stars are Dr. Juan Couto in Madrid that is booked solid until 2024 and Dr. Raymond Konior in Chicago with a 2 year wait list and crazy expensive. Konior colleague at his Chicago clinic - Dr. Nadimi - is also great and charges a lower price 6US/graft. Then you have the rising star Dr. Bruno Ferreira that works with Dr. Lorenzo in Madrid and has his own clinic in Porto (2.5€/graft). Hasson&Wong is still achieving amazing results but they do have techs do part of the surgery (amazing techs but still techs). For mega sessions Eugenix is considered the best choice and Dr. Arika charges 1.8€/graft but it’s not a Doctor only surgery. They are getting amazing results with high norwood patients in just 1 surgery (using beard grafts to add density like Pekiner and HLC). Stay clear from ASMED and any Turkish doctor or clinic other than HLC (2.7€/graft) and Pekiner (2.25€/graft). I tend to always recommend Doctors that do the whole surgery themselves implanting using stick&place or DHI technique and operating on just 1 patient day. Wish you all the best!
  3. @Lookingforthebest yes it’s Raymond Konior in Chicago. If you want a great Doctor with no more than 6 months wait list then talk to @Dr. Bruno Ferreira he works in Madrid with Dr. Lorenzo (one of the best FUE docs) but also has his own clinic in Porto (2.5€/graft). Also look into Dr. Rafael De Freitas and Dr. Ximena Villa (2.5€/graft)
  4. @Portugal25, thanks for the advice. I was afraid the stem cell thing was just marketing hype, but that is why I was asking if anyone had any experience with it. In regards to your recommendation, to confirm, is it Raymond J. Konior in Chicago you are referring to? (https://www.chicagohairinstitute.com/about-the-practice/about-the-doctor) I also looked up Dr. Juan Couto from Madrid, Spain but it looks like he's literally booked until 2023.....! Any recommendations for someone with a waiting list that is in months, not years? Thanks again.
  5. @Walter it`s true that Turkey is the world capital of botched hair transplants and that is because there are hundreds of all inclusive low cost Hair Clinics where surgery is performed by technicians. Turkey also home of some of the best FUE Doctors in the world such as Dr. Keser (3,5€/graft), Dr. Pekiner (2.15€/graft) and HLC (2,7€/graft). These 3 are the best and for me the only options in Turkey. These 3 Doctors are all performing the entire surgery with manual extraction of grafts and implanting manually using stick&place which is the same technique used by the most well known FUE Doctor in the world Dr. Raymond Konior (8US/graft). Eugenix (1.8€/graft with Dr. Arika or 3,8€/graft with Dr. Sethi/Dr.Arika) is getting great results. In India they are by far the best choice and for me they are the only choice in India.
  6. Hello all, I’m posing this question as a prior FUE patient (not of either doctor). I am not currently looking to get a procedure because my hair is pretty good right now but I will be looking within the next two years or so, and I couldn’t find any information about the above topic. I lurk on these forums often to stay up to date with things and check out results because it’s very interesting to me and makes me happy to see guys getting great results. I have seen some really good things from both Hasson and Wong of H&W clinic fame. They have a robust patient community and some good marketing and are known globally. I have also recently discovered Dr. Raymond Konior in Chicago, which is close to where I live. I’ve conversed with him several times just asking about his methods and was truly impressed by his responsiveness. His results are also amazing and I have not found anything bad about him. I’ve compared results between the two and honestly it’s hard to really tell which takes the cake. With someone like me who is willing to wait a while, what is the best course of action that you would take? Could I be better suited with one or the other? My procedure would be entirely in the frontal third, mostly the hairline, and I’m looking for FUE. I can upload some pics later, as well.
  7. @bigtyivier2k2 I advise you to read more about recent results from surgeries at Asmed. Check @munich results below: https://www.hairrestorationnetwork.com/topic/53605-3000-grafts-dr-koray-erdogan-asmed-17082018/page/4/?tab=comments#comment-530811 Asmed is a clinic that does surgery on 8 patients per day and if Dr. Koray is there you will probably just get a handshake. If you do insist on going all the way to Turkey then go to the best in Turkey! These are doctors that do the whole surgery and use the same technique as Dr. Raymond Konior (stick&place). Dr. Keser (3.5€/graft) although he might not accept you because he does a maximum of 2400 grafts per surgery. Dr. Pekiner (2.15€/graft) but he may reject you if you have miniaturized grafts (take a thricogram to be sure) and HLC Ankara. Since you are from NY I would advise to talk with Dr. Bruno Ferreira he is the medical assistant of Dr. Lorenzo in Madrid (top FUE in the world) but also has his own clinic in Porto where he charges 2.5€/graft. It’s a direct 7h flight from NY and much trendier city than desolate Ankara.
  8. How on earth is a 34 year old receiving a fleming meyer flap procedure? This is absolutely insane. He is lucky to have found you @Dr. Raymond Konior it truly baffles me how some surgeons are still performing outdated procedures, especially for patients who would benefit from the gold standard follicular unit transplantation.
  9. @zak786 to answer your questions: 1. The best surgeons in Turkey are Dr. Keser (3.5€/graft) and then Dr. Pekiner (2.15€/graft). The best clinic is HLC Ankara (2.7€/graft) but they have 6 doctors and you don’t know which will be doing your surgery to check the results he is achieving. 2. Cinik is a all inclusive clinic where surgeries are performed by technicians. ASMED is also a clinic where your surgery will be performed by technicians and their latest results have not been good. My advise to you is to stay clear of Turkish all inclusive clinics and focus on doing a surgery where the doctor is controlling every stage. Demirsoy (1.25€/graft) is a better alternative than Cinik or Asmed because he only has 1 patient per day but he does use techs for implanting (with his supervision) which for me is a no-go. 3. There are several doctors that offer a growth guarantee. I read that Dr. Bruno Ferreira (2.5€/graft) guarantees 90% growth. He also works at Dr. Lorenzo (one of the best in the world) clinic in Madrid but there you will pay 5€/graft. 4. Best in the world for me would be Raymond Konior and Juan Couto but be prepared for a 2 year wait list and much higher prices. 5. You’re young so don’t be greedy and plan for progressive hairloss (leave donor area for a second HT). 6. There is no scientific evidence to support that PRP has any effect. 7. Dunno 8. Go the Italian, Spanish and Turkish forums to check results posted by patients. I decided to pay more to have a surgery totally performed by a Doctor doing a maximum 2000 grafts per day using either DHI or stick&place, so far so good.
  10. @Jay13 be very careful when choosing a Doctor or clinic in Turkey because it’s the world capital of botched hair transplants. I did my research and had my second HT in Turkey but I concluded that if you don’t select one of the Doctors below then you will have a high risk of joining the botched FUE Club: 1. Dr. Kaan Pekiner charges 2.15€/graft, 1 patient per day, does the whole surgery himself with manual FUE so he is limited to 1200 grafts per day and uses stick&place to implant. Has experience doing mega sessions using beard grafts. 2. Dr. Keser charges 3.5€/graft has just 1 patient per day and does the whole surgery himself with manual FUE but he uses his own punch that limits him to 600 grafts per day. Implants also with stick&place. He is focused on dense hairlines. 3. HLC Ankara is the best and only clinic one should consider in Turkey. They charge 2.7€/graft and also perform manual FUE with the Doctor doing the whole surgery but because it’s a Clinic they don’t tell us which of the clinic’s Doctor will be doing the surgery. Have a lot of experience doing mega sessions with beard grafts. Follow @duchaine advice and check other countries. Like Porto/Portugal that has @Dr. Bruno Ferreira. He charges 2.5€/graft and also only has 1 patient per day but uses DHI with Lion Implanter Pens (the most recent FUE technique). He also works in Madrid at Dr. Jose Lorenzo clinic (one of the best in the world charging 5€/graft). If you don’t care about price then go to Dr. Raymond Konior (8US/graft and 2 year wait list) or Dr. Juan Couto (5€/graft and 2 year wait list). If you need any further information feel free to PM me.
  11. Well I thought I’d start by describing how the day went as that’s what most people are interested in and will talk about some other useful stuff in another post… So my procedure day had finally arrived and I was collected from the hotel by Tom (the office manager) at 6am. On arrival I met Lisa who is the lead technician and has worked with Dr Konior for years. With Tom I went through some paperwork, basically signing up to the number of grafts, consent forms and checklists etc. Lisa came in to check my blood pressure and was shortly followed by the Dr. I’m a bit hazy on the details but basically he said we would essentially be doing 2 x 2,000 graft strip surgeries one after the other because the stick and place method of grafting would take a lot of time. The entire strip would be cut in the morning but half would be left in place until the afternoon. It was also suggested that if any sensations above a ‘pinch’ were felt during any stage of the procedure I should make him aware of it. That way we could keep on top of any discomfort. We then moved on to the hairline design. I was handed a cotton swab and asked to outline the shape of where I’d like it. I went pretty conservative. I’m almost 35 and would rather have a solid front 1/2 than a solid front 1/3rd…Anyway, the Dr then got the marker out and drew something way better which would reduce the size of the corners but still covered the front half. It looked great and I couldn’t have made it any better however, I did suggest using some grafts to improve the temple points. They have faded away but not moved since I was in my teens. Next up I had to stand next to the famous green screen for the pre-op photos. I was also given the first couple of shots of valium. One of the techs gave me a disposable shirt to wear so I put that on and was given a restroom opportunity and then led into the surgical room. After the valium you don’t really feel any nerves. First up you lie face down with your head on a donut shaped head support. I was awake for the strip removal but not sure how long it took. It must have been about an hour. There was obviously the shaving of the site and a lot of masking tape to hold adjacent hair back. The numbing shots were sharp but not that bad. My ears were covered with pads as part of the prep by the techs but I could hear the suction device (Spanker told me what that was for the next day) and I think I heard the strip coming out though it didn’t really bother me at all – I’ve seen it done before (the wonders of YouTube). The only minor problem I had was a lack of circulation to my left arm but managed to shift my shoulder into a better position. I got another break and some Gatorade and a snack for 10mins while the room set up was changed, plus another valium pill. It was now time to lie on my back for the planting of the grafts. It must have been about 9am but the next thing I remember is the Dr telling me where I was. It had now fast forwarded to 1:45pm. It was around this time I had the Turkey sandwich lunch that Tom had mentioned in the morning (you can choose alternatives). From then on I can just remember being in a daze, hearing some discussion about needle sizes and grafts, and mentioning to the Dr and Lisa when I started to feel ‘pinching’ sensations. Eventually we broke again for the second part of the strip removal but that only took 10 minutes. I can remember the tugging of the sutures and sound of the staples going in. Everything was well drilled and efficiently done. The last thing I can remember is the temple point work which must have been completed just gone 12. We were all done and dusted and I remember being back in the consultation room being handed a mirror to look at the work and given instructions for the medications. I was driven back to the hotel by one of the techs.. (There was no time for post op photos so they were taken a couple of days later instead.) So that’s all there is to it really. It wasn’t until the day after Dr Konior said it was a really tough day getting the grafts to stay in properly. From my perspective I didn’t know any better so if that is as bad as it gets for the patient then let me tell you you will have nothing to worry about. I came in the following 3 days for a clean up and ended up changing my flight home to a day later. I had a tough time with the swelling but with constant icing I kept it away from my eyes. Apart from that there was no significant discomfort at all. You just have to make sure you follow the medication regime. I have to say that everyone at the office was extremely nice and hardworking, even coming in on their days off. Overall the Dr was very pleased with the healing the following couple of days in both recipient and donor – very little redness or scabbing and some small signs of growth. The staples came out on Day 2 and I didn’t feel a thing. Additional thanks to ... aka Spanker for his special guest appearance! Nice to meet Aaron1234 as well, albeit briefly.
  12. Dr. Raymond Konior. Search through the directory on this site with his name as keyword. Look at their website. Chicago Hair Institute. There are many examples of the work that he does including repair and scar work. He is one of the most talented in the business. In addition, he is also one of the most ethical and will guide you in the right direction. As such, he is expensive and the wait time is well over a year. It seems like you waited 25 already so what's one more to have it done right.
  13. I have a very similar situation with scaring from Artas . I have seen multiple FUT scar repairs in this forum. Now my question is , is there any repair for this situation? What do you guys recommend? Smp? Or beard hair into the fue scar ? Is that ethical to transplant hair into a FUE Scar? Noted that smp seems to only look good when people keep their hair shaved really low. I like to wear mines longer. Almost a 3-4 guard . Also if ur hair is transplanted into a FUE scar. And you get a procedure in future. Could you move that hair around again that you transplanted back in to donor ? @Melvin-Moderator @Dr. Raymond Konior
  14. Hello all, I wanted to start a thread commemorating my fantastic surgical experience with Dr. Raymond Konior on September 7, 2017. I had a thread previously regarding my consult experiences, my goal was FUE from the start given my desire to keep my hair short....see previous thread here: http://www.hairrestorationnetwork.com/eve/184106-compare-your-consult-docs-thanks.html Consult That was prior to my consult with Dr. Konior. I went to visit Dr. K in December of 2016 and thoroughly enjoyed his demeanor and knowledge of the field. He was at the end of a long surgical day but took more than an hour with me chatting. As a physician myself, I appreciated his CLEAR expertise on the subject matter of SURGICAL hair restoration, be it FUT or his approach to FUE. He took time to actually analyze my donor hair, explaining that the donor hair characteristics and ability to obtain the graft with proper surgical technique (be it FUE or FUT) were the keys to a successful hair transplant. This made a lot of sense to me. He did not draw a hair line but gave an explanation and general idea on his philosophy in the recipient zone, commented that I had a good look even with my current hair loss, and offered another potential tool to combat hair loss in the interim. He offered 2000 FUE to address my hair loss, but to take my time to think about it. His candid approach, his incredible knowledge of the science of hair, obvious expertise regarding surgical skill/technique, and reputation/experience led me to walking out of that office knowing that Dr. Konior was the doc for me. I didn't really need any further time to think about it, and booked with him but i had to wait until September 7, 2017, approx 9 months. I am now 14 days postop and things are going well. I will post more tomorrow regarding the day of my surgery, as well as obtain pics and specifics from Dr. Konior to share with you all.....he offered to provide last weekend, but I did not have time to follow up, so bear with me on those...
  15. Everything is going good so far. I am still recovering in the hotel. The Doctor and staff are great. I went over these boards for over 10 years to decide what to do. I'm so glad I choose Dr. Konior. My surgery was this past Thursday. Here are some pics from today. One of them is dry from like a month ago pre surgery.
  16. If you are an active member of this site and have been researching hair restoration and still haven't heard of Dr. Raymond Konior you haven't done enough research really. Though I will admit he is heavily booked and quite expensive these days (especially for FUE) which may limit the amount of recent posts. But don't be afraid to use the search button, as he and a few select others come up on most people's top 5 surgeon lists. He cured me and cured me for life. http://www.hairrestorationnetwork.com/eve/attachment.php?attachmentid=57713&d=1394603181 http://www.hairrestorationnetwork.com/eve/attachment.php?attachmentid=100011&d=1477810459
  17. There is no other more skilled and patient focused hair restoration surgeon out there whether it be FUT or FUE than Dr. Raymond Konior. Last I spoke with him last winter he was doing 50% FUE cases recently. The only drawback to a Konior FUE procedure would be the cost, especially compared to the overseas FUE clnics, but it would be likely worth it with a nearly guaranteed chance of an excellent result.
  18. Hey guys, This is my first post and I wanted to share my journey and hair transplant by Dr. Raymond Konior, who is located in the Chicagoland area, US. I had roughly 3950 grafts all placed by his skillful hands and have been extremely pleased with the progress so far. It hasn't even been three months since my July 2012 procedure but I felt I should start a post to encourage anyone else interested. This network truly helped me get to the decision I feared regretting-- going with a bad surgeon. So for that I thank you guys. Fear not with Dr. Konior, he's an artist like many have stated prior; particularly with realistic density and masterful hairlines. Below are images from the night before the procedure, 3 days after, and 2.5 months in. Here's to more progress. Let me know if you have any questions or thoughts. Hair Restoration Site for Sam Spade

  20. Can anyone suggest a good hair transplant clinic in/near Chicago? I would like to fix my hairline. I've lost some of the hair at the age of 25 (only at the front) and it has not been progressing. Now at 35 I would like to go for a procedure. Any recommendations? From what I've been reading this place: Hair Loss - Chicago - Oak Brook, IL - Hair Transplant - Chicago Hair Institute (Dr. Raymond J. Konior) is someone that can be trusted. Please help! Thanks
  21. As many have posted here before, Dr. Konior is AMAZING! I was REALLY impressed with not only what he did for me but the professional teamwork that took place during my procedure. Even though I couldn't see (they covered my eyes), I could hear them talking to one another and based on what I heard, i could tell he ran a well oiled machine. It really was impressive. i remember going in and seeing a TEAM of assistants preparing for my procedure. I wasn't expecting that. I had done plenty of research about hair transplants and certainly in the field regarding which doctor I should seek out in Chicago. I didn't realize there needed to be a TEAM working on me. lol. Maybe it had to do with how many grafts they were implanting (originally 3,500 but he ended up putting in close to 3,700 I think). All the assistants were kind and gentle with me and were constantly making sure I was comfortable. I thought it was a little funny how the doctor told me that I would be sleeping through the 12 (or more) hour procedure due to the Valium they gave me but it's a little hard when they keep moving you around and talking to you/asking if you need a break (which I needed several times). I did my best to just lie there and let Dr. Konior do his thing because I wanted nothing but his best efforts undisturbed but when you have to pee...you have to pee! lol. In the end, they gave me a mirror to see the end results and I was blown away because he ended up covering WAY more than he originally told me he could do! I had far more baldness in my crown area than my temple and hairline. I had told him that was the area I was most concerned about at this moment in time and could wait a year before getting my hairline done. At first he was reluctant and gave me the impression that he didn't want to work on that area but he'd rather work on my hairline (since that is what most people would see). I guess he had a change of heart or saw that he could cover my crown as well as other areas once I got into the surgical room. I don't know but man was I grateful!! As I mentioned, I was very impressed and amazed at the final results. They went beyond what i thought it might look like. Granted I just had it done so maybe it will look far different once the hair starts to grow out, but I'm not worried for the moment. I'd love to share photos but only Dr. Konior has those and even though I asked for copies, I never got any. I can take post-op photos myself and post those I suppose but you know how difficult it is to take photos of yourself without help. If anyone has questions or thoughts regarding hair transplant or even Dr. Raymond Konior, I'd be happy to answer as best I can
