Have you Ever Had a Hair Transplant?

Advice for Hair Loss Sufferers Considering Hair Transplant Surgery

My Story

  1. Just follow your Dr's post-operative instructions. Top doc like Konior won't have bad instructions Body bath every day, showers have adjustable head heights, no need to be a caveman buddy Dr. K should have you covered, you picked him for a reason, so trust his instructions. Typical is washing the donor every day, avoiding the recipient, and after e.g. 4-7 days you are allowed to wash the recipient twice a day as Melvin demonstrates. You are ENCOURAGED at that point to gently massage the shampoo on the recipient area with the weight of your palm. The alternative is not having the scabs removed at a positive point of 10-15 days, and you don't want that.
  2. Hello Gents, After 5 years of HT research, it's time to take a decision that might be a big failure or success. Hence, i am would like to hear your biased opinion and recommendation. Clinics Consultation: Eugenix (In person consultation) : Dr. Pradeep suggested 2200 grafts for the hairline (frontal 1/3) and 1500 for the crown (attached pics for hairline design) Dr. Konior (online consultation) : 3000 grafts for the hairline (frontal 1/3); Crown can be done in a 2nd sitting after 6 to 12 months. HLC (online consultation): 3800 - 4200 for the hairline (frontal 1/3) and giving more density for the frontal half. Dr. Pekiner (online consultation): Rejected my case due to diffuse thinning on top, insufficient donor and probably retrograde alopecia/ DUPA Dr. Yaman (online consultation) : 4000 grafts for the hairline and mid scalp (see attached pics for hairline design) Dr. Bhatti (online consultation): He suggested 3500 - 4000 scalp & beard grafts for the hairline and mid scalp but wasn't sure about my donor or confident for a good result. Dr. Bicer (online consultation): 3200 - 3400 grafts for the hairline and mid scalp; crown can be done in a 2nd sitting Current Medication: Minoxidil 5% twice a day since 1 year Micro-needling 1.5mm once a week since 1 year Saw palmetto 320 mg one tablet a day since 1 month Perfectil multivitamin 1 tablet a day since 1 year Vitamin D3 5000 IU 1 tablet a day since 2 years Thanks in advance for your contribution.
  3. Wow do you mind taking close-up pictures of the graft placement? The refinement looks absolutely stunning. Dr. Konior is such a nice guy, few surgeons would give rides.
  4. I tend to agree. I remember I sent Dr. Konior several photos, videos, and once I flew out to meet him in person, he said that everything I submitted to him was pretty spot on, and that there were no surprises.
  5. That's awesome man, you've chosen an excellent surgeon, one of the very best. I look forward to seeing your updates, and please let Dr. Konior I said "hi"
  6. History before My Hair Transplant Surgery- I first noticed my hair loss at the age of 24,I began to notice thinning in my crown area along with receding hairline. As a result I started feeling self-conscious in public. I naturally have very fine hair which has always made it a challenge to cover up my receding thinner areas. Next Steps And Why I Chose Dr Konior:- At my 30’s, hair loss was at its worse. After trying numerous different shampoos and products available on the market with no improvement, I started researching the possibility of a hair transplant. After a long process of narrowing down few surgeons by reading through the websites, blogs and chatting with few senior members in this forum (which truely helped me a lot), I couldn’t stop noticing that Dr.Konior had one of the best reputation in the lot with great results. Finally I decided to pull the trigger and scheduled a meeting in person with Dr Konior last year. After examining my hair, he suggested that since I have a weak donor area (specially on both the sides), my case needs to be handelled strategically. The best way to proceed would be to go through a combination of FUE and FUT to get desired number Of grafts.I felt very confident after meeting him and decided to book my surgery with him. It felt like a perfect choice and worth waiting an year (because of his busy schedule).Dr konior and his office staff has always been available from the very begining until the day of my surgery. Experience on the Surgery Day:- On the day of my surgery, the staff and doctor were very gentle and cordial to all my needs and my questions. Doctor took an hour to analyse my hair, scalp, designing my hairline and strategy to proceed with combination of both FUT and FUE. We decided to focus on a decent frontal look for now and leave the crown area for future. He also examined my beard and chest hair for future use and luckily it has potential of another 3000 grafts in case a need arise in future to use them. After a 12 hour surgery(which went very smooth), I was thrilled to see my new hair line. I must say Dr konior is very knowledgeable and hard working. He was present throughout my entire surgery and managed to get around 2500 grafts of my week donor area. It has been 3 days post my surgery and I have been going daily to the clinic for check up and cleaning. I felt that comfort and personnel attention from the staff during all my visits. I am waiting for my hair to grow now!! Very excited!! Below are some of my pre and post op pictures.
  7. Original Test Transplant Info I had a smaller test transplant with Dr Konior a couple years ago that went well and scheduled a larger surgery (approx. 1500 grafts for this spring). My surgery was scheduled for March 31st. Dr K and his staff was amazing and kept office traffic to an absolute bear minimum due to the whole COVID epidemic. They also drove me to my hotel afterward so that I didn't have to have anyone come pick me up and spent some time checking everything out and cleaning it the next morning. They have always been extremely easy to talk to, made sure pain was manageable at all times, and continued to follow up with me in the days after surgery. I did get a ton of swelling on day 1 and especially day 2 but by 4 it was down. I experienced almost no paint or discomfort on the front of my head but the scar area was very painful for a few weeks, definitely worse prior to stitches being removed. All hair has now shed and I'm starting to see a few itty bitty hairs peeking through, I cannot wait to see how it ends up progressing!
  8. Sorry for the late reply, but it looks like you've had great responses from other Dr. Konior patients. I echo everything everyone has already stated - you're in great hands (maybe the best hands). I think it's smart you're staying Tuesday-Saturday. Since you're having FUE, you will likely need far less recovery time than us FUT-ers. To briefly answer: 1) I'm happy with everything (pre-op care, post-op care, day of surgery, etc) but it's obviously far too early to tell about final result which is all I care about. I had FUT so the linear scar made it difficult to sleep for 2 weeks. I'm finally (nearly 3 weeks post op) getting an uninterrupted nights sleep with no pain. Your FUE procedure will be far less invasive with significantly less post-op pain. 2) 3,200 3) Nothing negative or scary that really is relevant to you since you're having FUE. The valium will really help mellow you out on the day of the procedure. The only negative part was not being able to sleep due to pain (result of FUT strip removal). Even though FUE is less invasive and I doubt you'll have the same donor pain, I'd recommend banking up on some quality sleep the week before the procedure.
  9. Hi, I had a procedure with Dr. Konior four years ago and I cannot say enough good things about him. I'm pretty confident that anyone trained and endorsed by him would also do outstanding work. Dr. Nadimi's results are also outstanding. It would absolutely be worth the wait for Konior. However, if you can't wait, you can't go wrong with Nadimi. Good luck!
  10. The donor feels normal with no pain or irritation to report. I would say a strength of Dr. Nadimi's technique would be donor management, and probably similarly to Dr. Konior. When I look at other HT cases from other doctors, day 1 and 2 the donor looks so different compared to mine. I dont know the exact punch size used but it appears the punch size used in extraction were very small compared to the other HT cases that look so bloodied. The smaller the punch size appears to be better and faster recovery
  11. 1) Great question! I had the exact same thoughts and did not have faith valium would work since I do not fall/stay asleep easily. That said, valium worked like a charm and the day went really fast. I only remember sort of waking for lunch and each time they rotated me. After everything was done, I did not feel very groggy so his office was really good with administering it. 2) Yes, stayed at the hotel and iced maybe once or twice but I had minimal swelling to be honest. I suggest keeping them on hand because its better to have and not need than need and not have. I did occasionally "rub" some of the minor swelling out per Anya's suggestion which worked well. 3) I am a city dweller so prefer walking and stayed at the Courtyard for that reason. I walked there and planned to walk home but Dr. K kindly offered me a ride so figured why not. They only covered my donor area with a bandage. Gross? haha We have all seen Dr. Konior's post-surgery photos and the scalps are anything but "bloody and gross" (I was no exception). 4) Another great question and similar concern of mine. I left the head alone and went in each day for a clean which they almost preferred I did. This put my concerns to rest and was happy how accommodating they were.
  12. That's awesome. Thanks for posting the reply and the willingness to offer any suggestions. I'm staying at the Hilton (about a 10 minute drive). I've never even shaved my head before, so this is all quite a bit out of my comfort zone. I do actually have some questions for you, if you don't mind? 1. They're giving me a Valium prior to the surgery (which I assume is what they give to everyone). Did you fall asleep during the procedure? I'm thinking that sitting in some sort of chair for 10 hours is craziness and would make for a super long day. How was that part for you? Did it seem to go by fast, slow? Any insight into the actual day of the procedure would really help ease my mind (or maybe not. lol) 2. How often did you ice while at the hotel? Assuming you stayed at a hotel from that Tuesday-Saturday morning? 3. Did you Uber to and from the doc on the day of surgery? I'm curious how that went. I can imagine walking out of the clinic with a gross looking bloody scalp, and then stepping into someone else's car. Sounds... interesting... Does Dr. Konior cover your head with something? 4. Did you do any cleaning etc. yourself while at the hotel or did you just leave it to the Dr. during each of your follow-up appointments wed-sat? Thanks!
  13. Native Buckeye and current Chicago resident. Similar situation as you, tapping this valuable resource for many years ultimately pulling the trigger. I recently had a FUE operation with Dr. Konior a few weeks ago and so far the hardest part has been taking good pictures to eventually post my progress here. The surgery was a breeze and I am happy to answer any questions for a fresh perspective from a rookie HT recipient. Also travel back to Ohio frequently if you're in need of travel tips.
  14. Absolutely, hair length is very important. The longer it is, the more it layers and covers your scalp. What is thinning? Showing scalp. If you can’t see scalp, no one will know you’re thinning. A loose quote from Dr. Konior.
  15. In my opinion, if you want to maximize your donor supply you should start off with FUT, you look to be a Norwood 6. I don't think you'll follow your fathers hair loss pattern. Although, nothing is set in stone. Here is my advice, submit as many virtual consultations as possible. Get a general consensus for the price and the number of grafts you'll need. Below is our list, you can start submitting VC's now. Forum approved list https://www.hairtransplantnetwork.com/Consult-a-Physician/hair-transplant-surgeons.asp?sr=HRN Watch these videos, they are from world renowned Dr. Shapiro, Dr. Josephitis, Dr. Nadimi and Dr. Konior. They will help you figure out the differences, and they will explain why getting a personalized consult is ideal.
  16. I definitely am, probably Norwood 5-6. I hope not Norwood 7 since my sides have remained high and thick for the most part, but one never knows with this bullshit. I would have been there years ago if not for finasteride and minoxidil. Yes, in theory FUT + FUE does give maximum coverage. What you suggested was actually my original plan. However, the same way how some people fear finasteride, I somewhat fear FUT. For one, Im worried about scar stretching and nerve damage. I have read cases about the pain and numbness in the donor long after the surgery has been done.I also sort of want the get out of jail card of buzzing my head if things go wrong, and that seems much more doable after FUE than FUT. I think FUE yields have somewhat closed the gap with FUT to make it more viable. And when I look at how the donor area looks with doctors such as Dr. Zarev, it almost looks untouched. Similarly with other doctors such as Dr. Konior.
  17. Dr. Konior has a huge portfolio on this forum, he has so many home runs. So does Dr. Hasson, Bloxham definitely has a lot of patients as well. Have you consulted with any of these doctors?
  18. It's not mandatory, but Dr. Konior's post-op instructions say it can help with minimizing stretching of the donor scar by preventing you from bending your head down. I don't wear it for sleep because it's too uncomfortable, and now that I'm already 2-weeks post-op I'll use it less during the day.
  19. Aee you asking: Which clinic consistently produces the best result or what are the best results you have ever seen? If it is the latter, there is the GOAT: Dr Hasson 660 hairline grafts update - Hair Restoration Results Posted by Patients - Hair Restoration Network - Community For and By Hair Loss Patients And some runner ups, form which I could mention probably 20: Ray Konior, MD – 763 FUE (Crown) - Hair Restoration Results Posted by Patients - Hair Restoration Network - Community For and By Hair Loss Patients 2987grafts with Dr. Lupanzula - Hair Restoration Results Posted by Patients - Hair Restoration Network - Community For and By Hair Loss Patients Round 2 with Rahal -- 1204 FUT to frontal third (same area) - Hair Restoration Results Posted by Patients - Hair Restoration Network - Community For and By Hair Loss Patients
  20. Just had a ht with dr. Konior. Attached, you will find my picture the day of the surgery. I was extremely dehydrated the day of the surgery. so i decided to go to a local pharmacy to get something to drink. I wore a hoodie but i ended up damaging my grafts i think. It sucks. But luckily i called in to the doctor and told him and the office examined my head the next day and determined everything was good. Attached are pictures from the day of the surgery, to all the way today. I will keep updating on a monthly basis. Ciao
  21. I've been to Dr.Konior twice, but I wouldn't hesitate to let Dr. Nadimi work on me. I'm really glad she came along, just in case Dr. Konior retires(which I don't see happening anytime soon) before I need to go back.
  22. I think they’re comparable. Although, Konior has more experience. I have been so impressed by Dr. Nadimi’s quality. I don’t believe there’s a difference in quality. However, I don’t know if she performs megasessions.
  23. im unsure, im trying to find this information from other threads on this forum. Anyone know what size punch Dr. Nadimi or Konior use?
  24. Hello everyone, So I decided to go for Dr. Konior during the summer of 2017 and got a reservation for August 8th, 2018. I was 29 at the time and had some pretty extensive frontal balding going on. I had been balding mostly in the front from around age 18 - so pretty early. Luckily I had a decent amount of hair throughout my 20's, but in 2017 I decided I had to do something about my problem. The main issue I had was with people subconsciously scanning my hairline trying to figure out what the problem was up there. The framing in my face was gone and it was constantly drawing eyes, which was not fun. I tried to shave it all off at one point, and although it did look ok, I just didn't feel comfortable with it. The balding was still quite visible, even with a shaved head. I'm sure I would've learned to settle into it, but having hair is always better. It was a year long wait, but finally in August of 2018 I flew out to Chicago, from Norway. I had a few concerns heading into the procedure. One of them was my allergy. I had some pretty bad allergic skin breakouts at the time, and I was also allergic to penicillin, so it was not a good start to the journey ! But the Doctor and his staff were really professional and nice, which made things easier. We decided that it would be ok to skip the antibiotic pills, and instead just use the antibiotic ointment for the postop. Thinking about it now, I'm very glad that I did. Antibiotics wreck havoc on your system, and the risk of infection is tiny with a good clinic and proper wound care. Another concern was nerve damage around the donor area. I'm a bit of a skinny person, so I felt like my nerves would be closer to the surface than other people, but this turned out to be a non-issue. Full sensation returned to the donor area within a couple of months. I think this is due to the fact that he's a great surgeon. I even told him I was worried about it right before he was about to remove the strip, which might've made him be even more careful. Dr. Konior is the only hair transplant surgeon I know of with a cosmetic surgery background, so you're in good hands when it comes to all that. At this point, I have no numbness at all there. I sleep very comfortably. The recipient area is still slightly numb though, but I think that's normal. It's been cut over 3000 times, so it's to be expected. I don't notice the numbness there unless I bump my head into something. If I touch with my fingers it feels ok. And finally, to all the people worrying about when the results will come. Be patient. I was a bit of a slow grower myself. It takes time for the transplanted hair to settle in and mature, and for the blood vessels to grow strong. But, make sure you do a lot of research before you pick your surgeon. You want skilled hands operating on you. -- Anyway, here are some pre-op pics.
