  1. It sounds like you've done a great job doing your homework. I know things can be confusing and there is a lot to learn and read. Of course, not everything you read will be true and you have to take certain things with a grain of salt. This community prescreen to recommend surgeons based on a set of standards. The standard determine whether or not we invite physicians to be recommended sponsors. Only those who have a long history of producing outstanding results are invited to become recommended physicians on this community. There are other websites, some operate similarly and some operate differently. Many simply take advertising money from doctors allowing them to take up advertising space on their website. This is not the same as a recommended position. We use the term recommended because we put a lot of time, energy and research into making sure that we ourselves would trust our own scalp with that doctor. I see that you have narrowed your selection down to Dr. Reddy. I think you made an excellent choice and I firmly believe in his work. As I'm sure you've seen he is recommended by this community as well. I've been very impressed by his work as have other members who have seen him post multiple times on this website. He continues to present examples every month so that we can continue to evaluate his work and everything I've seen has been top notch. It sounds like you said you are a long way from deciding on undergoing the procedure completely. There's nothing wrong with taking your time and researching everything. If we can help with anything, please ask any specific questions and we will do our best to help you. In the meantime, keep up the good work in researching and I'm sure you'll make the right decision. The right decision is always one that's best for you. Bill

  4. Hello. Long-time lurker, first time poster. Quick re-cap of my history. In about 2007, at about 30 years old, I had some noticeable thinning at my temples and front third. As a preventative measure, I got some generic 5 mg Proscar (Dr. Reddy) online and began taking one-quarter (1.25 mg) daily. I didn't really notice any change (like I said, I was taking it preventatively and my loss was concentrated to my temples and frontal third-- the area least likely to be improved with finasteride). However, about 2-3 months into taking the pills I experienced a pretty severe sexual side effect. I am someone who has never had the slightest issue in "that department" yet suddenly, I found myself having a very difficult time getting an erection. I had actually just started dating a girl, so this was majorly stressful to me. I was sufficiently enough freaked out to go to my doctor over the issue. To be honest, at this stage I had no idea that finasteride was associated with this type of side effect, so didn't even realize this was the cause until my doctor told me that he suspected the finasteride was the issue. He told me to stop taking them immediately, which I did. Thank heavens, within weeks of ceasing the Proscar, my sexual function returned in its entirety. I have since read nightmare stories of people who have become permanently impotent even after they stop taking the finasteride. I actually consider myself quite lucky to have had the side effects cease. Now, fast forward to 2016. I have been on 2/day Rogaine foam for ~5 yrs but my MPB has steadily continued. I now have significantly more thinning in my frontal third and a bit on the crown. I probably have transitioned from a NW2 to a NW3 in the past year and I am reaching the critical point where I will no longer be able to hide my hair loss much longer. I have consultations scheduled and have decided that I definitely want to take the plunge and go for a HT this year. I have researched it for a long time and am firm in my desire for a HT. However, based on my past experience with finasteride I am EXTREMELY reluctant to ever try it again. I would, frankly, prefer to never touch it. I understand that surgeons certainly prefer that the patient hold onto any native crown and vortex hair with finasteride. But I'm still terrified of the stuff. Does anyone have any take on doing an HT with Rogaine only and no finasteride? I understand that I will likely shed more from the crown and need further procedures down the road. My other question is, since I took online, generic Proscar and my side effects ceased when I cut it off, should I give name brand Propecia another try and hope for the best? I am 99.9% against touching it again, but there is a small part of me that is so stressed about my hair loss that I may try to take a smaller amount of it, if I really need it.

  7. Hi, last year I found myself researching HTs, but in the end just decided to shave my head and be done with it. Once shaved it wasn't all that obvious my hair was thinning and receding, and i had a lot of people tell me the skinhead look suits so me so I thought, problem solved! But the thinning is progressing very quickly, and I'm a lot less comfortable with the idea of a bald head than a shaved head, so I'm once again considering the procedure. Bit of info on myself - I'm 28, been slowly receding throughout my 20s but wasn't noticeable particularly till 26, and since then it has been thinning in general. I went for two consultations last year, one with elite hair restoration and the other I forget the name of, but that surgery had DR. Reddy working with them, who I read good things about. But since then I've researched more, and from this forum I get the general feeling that travelling to Europe is the best way forward, but I find that idea a bit overwhelming. I'm from the uk by the way. I do want it to be worth the effort and money though, so if it's necessary I'll do it. I'm also aware that because of my age I will need to take something to prevent the inevitable, and apparently rapid, continuation of hair loss. Can anyone share their experiences with hair loss drugs? I have heard some horror stories... This is something I want to do but I am not wealthy, and have no savings so I would have to pay for it on a monthly basis, spending probably a max of about 200 pounds a month. This may be a strange way to look at budgeting, but hopefully it makes sense! I would appreciate any info and advice you can give. Thanks!

  9. Dear Friends, Firstly, would like to thank this Forum and all its members for sharing their valuable stories & feedback on this open forum. It is really helpful to everyone. This is my first post on this forum and it is regarding Hair Transplant. About me, I am 26 years old & based out of Hyderabad, India. My hair started falling since around more than 5 years now, tried Dr. Batras over here and couple of other doctors for treatment, but nothing worked out. Ultimately, frustrated with everything, stopped the medication completely for around 2 years. Then again, in December 2010, on someone’s recommendation, met a Doctor in Delhi, and started taking treatment under him, which basically included applying of Mintop 10 & taking Finax (1mg), which I am doing since last six months and do see a decent difference. However, the condition now is such, that I do need a Hair Transplant for obvious reasons. After going through the forum search and recommendations from couple of people, I finally decided to go for Hair Transplant and decided to shortlist on which Doctor to go with. I consulted two doctors last week, Dr. Puli Ravinder Reddy & Dr. Pathuri Madhu in Hyderabad. 1) Dr. Puli Ravinder Reddy recommended me for Hair Transplant and said that I would need about 4000-4500 hairs (not sure whether this is no. of hairs or hair grafts) to cover the entire area and he will do that in one sitting and no second sitting would be required. However, if I do need a lot more hair, I can go for second sitting sometime in future. He quoted an aggregate amount for the entire procedure including medicines for 1 year and not anything like per graft basis. Regarding the clinic, it was a decent one...He transplanted on a Husband-Wife couple from U.S. that day itself (I never thought that even women go for transplant) He does two surgeries per day and is booked for one month...I would get a date for some time in August. 2) Dr. Madhu, on consultation said that he would be able to extract around 2500-2800 grafts from my donor area and would be able to cover only the frontal portion through it. And, to cover the remaining area, I would need a second transplant, some time in future. He also seems to be booked for the entire month, but on booking an appointment by paying Rs. 5,000/-, I might get an appointment before that. Now, my confusion is which doctor I should go with. Cost is the last thing on my mind, though Dr. Madhu might cost me 50% more than that of Dr. Ravindra Reddy, I am not at all bothered about it, as I can’t see the cost for such a crucial thing. Confusion also would not have been there if Dr. Madhu would have said that he would cover the entire portion and no second sitting would be required. Being more popular on this forum and after seeing satisfied patient websites who were treated by him, I might have gone for him without any second thought. But as he said that he will do only the frontal portion, I am in a dilemma as to what to do, as Dr. Ravindra Reddy said that he will do the entire thing in one sitting. I have not read much about Dr. Ravindra Reddy. Nothing much is available to read on net about him, neither somewhere else nor on this forum, except for Kaykays patient website, which looks decent to me. But Dr. Ravindra Reddy seems to have a good reputation around. Now, I am seriously in deep deep confusion as to what to do, as I have to decide soon. Would really appreciate, if anybody out here can sort out my confusion and advise me as to what has to be done. Just to know the status of my hair, I am attaching the pics of my hair just clicked through laptop camera. (Sorry for the Clarity) Do I need to consult some other Doctors also? If yes, please let me know. Also, has anybody heard about Oliva Hair Transplantation & Cosmetic Clinic, found the banner on Jubilee Hills and contacted them on phone, was told that they charge Rs. 35/- per graft but the name of the Doctors which she mentioned were unheard of. They have three branches in Hyderabad, with Hair Transplantation being dune at Jubilee Hills , surprisingly, never heard of it. Booked a consultation though, just to check out, not sure about it. P.S. I am new to this forum and not sure whether I am posting a right thing on a right place or not. So , please pardon me, if anything is wrong with my post.
  10. I got my hair transplantation done by Dr. Puli Reddy two times. I wouldn't recommend him based on my experience. First time he was Ok, second time he was terrible. He behaved as if he is doing free service. His staff are also not professional and I have a scar on the back of my head that will be there through out my life.
  11. Hi My hair type Norwood IV. I too had same experience with Dr.Madhu and Dr.Puli Ravinder Reddy. Dr.Madhu told me he will transplant 2500 grafts for me in frontal area. But Dr.Puli Ravinder Reddy told me he will transplant both frontal and middle of scalp in one session. Please recommend which doctor to choose.
  12. Dear Forum Members, As many of you know, we gather as much information as possible about a physician, their staff, technique and track record before they are even considered for recommendation on the Hair Transplant Network. Part of our review process involves getting input from patients and the members of this forum community. To learn more about this review process, click here. We would appreciate your input regarding the potential recommendation of Dr. Raghu Reddy of London, England. At this time, Dr. Reddy is only being considered for recommendation, not the Coalition. To see our standards for recommendation, click here Dr. Raghu Reddy has over 6 years of experience and performs primarily FUE hair transplant surgery at his own clinic in London England. He has the staff and experience to perform up to 2500 grafts per day and dense pack up to 50 follicular units per square centimeter (FU/cm2) when appropriate for the patient. Dr. Reddy's interest in hair restoration dates back to his medical school days where he personally struggled with significant hair loss. Thus, after obtaining his qualifications and surgical training in West of Scotland, Deanery, Dr. Reddy pursued further training in hair restoration surgery. As both a patient and a surgeon, Dr. Reddy is very empathetic towards his patients and passionate about his work. Dr. Reddy specializes in shaven and non-shaven follicular unit extraction (FUE), body hair transplantation (BHT), scar repair, general repair, eyebrow reconstruction and provides both ACell and PRP treatments. He operates on only 1 or 2 patients per day depending on the size of the session and provides free consultations at his clinic. Dr. Reddy operates with a small team including himself and 3 technicians averaging over 6 years of experience each. Dr. Raghu Reddy believes it takes years of experience to master the FUE technique and angles and is very conservative - putting the needs of his patients above technical dogma. Dr. Reddy feels that FUE can minimize overall discomfort for patients and can provide fantastic outcomes on par with the strip harvesting technique, when done right. However, Dr. Reddy admits that FUE can have serious consequences, resulting in poor growth, excessive scarring and a depletion of valuable donor hair in an inexperienced pair of hands. Dr. Reddy performs manual FUE with the standard Versi handle and punches ranging between .8mm and 1.0mm depending on the size of the follicular unit. Dr. Reddy also applies ACELL to the donor area in order to aid healing and minimize the appearance of scarring. In Dr. Raghu Reddy's experience, manual follicular unit extraction allows an experienced surgeon to follow the natural emergent angles and aids both depth control and extraction of the follicles while minimizing transection and undue trauma. Dr. Reddy feels that it becomes more difficult to extract quality grafts and that this ability is lost with motorized FUE. Dr. Reddy acknowledges that manual extraction can be extra tedious and time consuming and thus, a significant amount of concentration is required to produce quality grafts with manual devices. To learn more about Dr. Reddy's extraction technique, visit "Improvements in Extraction of Follicles" on his website. Dr. Raghu Reddy is a member of the ISHRS (International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery), the BSHRS (British Society of Hair Restoration Surgery) and the BMA (British Medical Association). Given Dr. Reddy's experience and commitment to high quality follicular unit hair transplantation via FUE, I believe that he should be considered for recommendation. See our standards for recommendation. View some of his patient and surgical photos below: 4703 Grafts over a 2 Day FUE Session with Dr. Reddy 1207 Grafts via FUE with Dr. Reddy 3570 Grafts via FUE in 2 Days with Dr. Reddy 1277 Grafts via FUE with Dr. Reddy 1023 Grafts via FUE with Dr. Reddy 2718 Grafts - FUE Hair Transplant Repair with Dr. Reddy 790 Grafts via FUE on Female Patient with Dr. Reddy 1083 Grafts via FUE with Dr. Reddy 2307 Grafts via FUE with Dr. Reddy 1203 Grafts - FUE Hair Transplant Repair with Dr. Reddy 1207 Grafts on Afro Caribbean Norwood 4 with Dr. Reddy 2698 Grafts via FUE with Dr. Reddy 1407 Grafts via FUE to the Crown with Dr. Reddy 2370 Grafts via FUE with Dr. Reddy 1109 Grafts (3106 Hairs) via FUE - Female Injury Patient with Dr. Reddy I welcome input and comments from forum members regarding his potential recommendation.
  13. Hi, fellow follicly frustrated friends New member here. I've spent much time reading these forums, but still have questions about hair transplants. I've decided to go for two FUE procedures. I think I have good hair density in the back and sides (see pictures). I'm of same age (37) and have similar hair as Thor Hushovd (see pictures). He's a famous Norwegian bicyclist, who's open about his two hair transplants (1800 follicles in 2011 and 2013). I've tried to find more details, but only know he got them in England. Dr. Lorenzo and others, which many here speak highly of, afaik use the same straight hairline on their patients. Thor got that natural looking receeding/aging hairline, which is the hairline I use to have/want. I've seen some people here criticize the overall quality of English clinics, but Thor's hair transplants look excellent to me. I have some questions, and would appreciate any help/advice: 1: Is there a danger of implanting hair follicles into dormant hairs in the transplant area (I have diffused thinning)? Wouldn't this lead to additional hairloss/destroyed hair follicles? 2: Is the "Ultra Refined Follicular Unit Hair Transplantation" surgeon list at hairtransplantnetwork.com complete/up to date? I see two English surgeons on it (Bessam Farjo and Raghu Reddy), probably Thor used one of these two? Any better alternatives that can offer the kind of hairline/transplant I want? 3: Do the URFUE surgeons use the finest hair follicles in front of the hairline, and create natural imperfections? I don't want a hairline that's too smooth/perfect with stark dual/triple follicles. 4: Should I ask the surgeon about punch size? As I understand 0.75 mm punch is the latest/best option? I have light/pale skin, and want as little scarring/redness as possible. Before learning about Thor Hushovd, I had given up on my hair - didn't know hair transplants could look this good! I don't know if he has diffusing thinning in the top/back as I have, but he certainly had more frontal hairloss at 33 (when he got his first transplant). Thanks in advance for any advice/info! Best regards, Mike
  14. Dr. Christian Bisanga BHR Clinic, Brussels, Belgium 17/ 18 December 2013 39 year old male. Aim: achieve equal density and maintain mature hairline. Thank you to the forum for providing a good source of information and to all members who have posted their stories. I will reserve judgement until 12 months but I would like to thank BHR UK patient representative [steve] for excellent pre and post operative care.
  15. I have to agree with you about not going too-aggressive in my first HT, especially with the Hairline. Since I was a Norwood 4/5v looking more like a early-stage Norwood 4 (with meds & supplements), I've been considering a more balanced HT that makes my hairline look natural and improves the Vertex. Regarding the Hairline design, my frontal hairloss is mostly in the temple regions, so my natural hairline from my early twenties is somewhat intact and should serve as a good reference when designing the new-hairline. I likely won't be letting the Doc lower it too much, which *might* present a conflict during the pre-op consult if the Doc insists on something else. As I mentioned earlier, I still have an average-to-semi large Vertex area that needs to be filled in as well. Some Docs/Clinics focus more on the Hair-line aesthetics vs balanced coverage (Koray and Demirsoy fall into this category..the latter recently after my interaction with his Clinic reps). As member mosd wrote: "Dont want to use to much hair just so the doctor can put up a good case on the forums" And another member FUE2014 wrote: "Erdogan does go for a lot more grafts than other docs and while that may be his method, I question whether it is always in the patient's best interests. Short term, perhaps, but long term not so sure. I prefer the less is more approach advocated by Bisanga, Reddy et al, but to each their own"" While having a lowered hairline would be awesome, having a sparsely covered crown or a depleted donor area might be depressing down the road. Alternatively (and perhaps a last resort), you can opt for a Body-Hair Transplant from Docs like Hakan if you qualify. So if you're a solid Norwood 4/5 case who had a 3600 grafts in Front/Mid-scalp and 800 grafts on the Vertex...there is still some hope if your Vertex or other areas are lacking. But this shouldn't be a reason alone to take the risk of going for an aggressive HT. I'm actually doubting whether Dr. Koray or another HT-Doc will be able to extract 5000 grafts during the actual procedure - So I'm considering lowering my expectations, which is likely to compromise my Vertex coverage. It's a tough decision, fellas...
  16. 1. You are between NW 1 and 2. 2. I think that you should go for conservative hairline. Hairline of a person not suffering from baldness is usually 3 fingers (placed horizontally) above eye brows. If you see that it is 4 fingers in your case, you can go for 1200-1500 grafts. But I must again say that please be conservative. It is okay to have matured harline as you age. 3. Don't know. But what I see is that you have very good hair and you are a good candidate for HT. 4. If you mean nape hair, yes they can be used for frontal hairline and doctors prefer that. But if you are talking about thin hair at the very neck, you should not use them because they are body hair and they will also grow slow and curly like body hair - also any doctor will not advise you doing that. If you are bothered with neck hair, my cousin suggested me Philips IPL (some laser thing) for permanent hair reduction. It is very cheap and can be done at home. 5. Did not understand the question. 6. Don't know about 15% minox cream. I am from India and most people here use 5% percent minoxidil by Dr. Reddy's. 5% is sufficient. 7.Yes, most of them do. But even if they do not provide, it is not much of a cost. If someone tries to sell you such material for a high price and promising that it will supplement results of HT, they are lying! 8. I do not think so. Neither should you pay for it. Some clinics will lure into PRP also. If it comes free with HT (as some clinics offer), go for it as it may or may not help existing hair. Else do not go for PRP alone because it will not help you achieve what you want to achieve for your hairline - I am 100 percent sure.
  17. sammalone, In the UK we recommend Dr. Bessam Farjo in Manchester and Dr. Raghu Reddy in London. If you wish to search farther afield, check out our interactive map. You can view our criteria for recommending physicians here.
  18. Hi Shacked, Sounds like you had a great experience with Dr. Reddy! That's an important part of the HT. The transplanted hairs are growing in nicely and the results looks great, so far. Can't wait to see your results at one year!
  19. Hi All Any idea how to buy Dr.Reddy's Finax in Australia? I found this site "InhousePharmacy" but I am not sure.....any reviews on this site? Any one from Australia ? I worried about customs etc...can we import Finax like this? As Proscar is a prescription only drug in Australia. Any other suggestions...? Thanks
  20. The 80% yield quote for FUE is nonsense many top FUE surgeons get yield as good as Fut eg Feriduni, Erdogan etc. One thing you are missing is the ability to cherry pick with FUE which is probably even more critical with your limited donor. One thing that sparked my move fro. FUE to FUE (I was scheduled for a fut before reconsidering and doing more research). This mean being able to get a better hair per follicle yield. A 2000 fut can yield as low as 3500 hairs while surgeons such as dr. Reddy routinely get 5600 from the same # of grafts. I do not think you will find a $3 surgeon in the uss remotely as good das Dr. Erdogan. Lastly I would reconsider your price emphasis.nyeah I get you want to make this possible to yourself but when you start saying things like Dr X is 2.5 Eurex and I only want to spend 2.5 US you are making a bad decision. I don't mean you have to choose Dr Erdogan by any means just that if you decide against the right Dr. Because he is 10% more than your budget you are asking for a bad result. If you cannot afford to do this right do NOT do it until you can. If you can't accomodate a long trip vs a short one do not do it until you can. If you think US surgeons means higher quality vs Euri ones thing again, IMHO ALL of the top ht surgeons are US (and maybe Canada if you. Consider Dr Rahal). My hair is not close to you thinnes donor wise and I realized myself that fut was a bad path. A bad of ineffective ht can leave you with that and a scar you will be very hard pressed to hide and few options for styling or further HTs.
  21. Please please do not use one of those clinics ! they are not to be recommended at all. One of them does not have any decent reviews - infact quite the opposite. Please check for recommended surgeons on this forum. There is only 1 person doing decent work in the UK and that's Dr. Raghu Reddy. Give all others a total miss. Or you could travel to Turkey ? a few more surgeons recommended and they offer good value compared to the UK.
  22. Today, I'm not familiar with this surgeon, so I can't comment on his work. Also, the ISHRS does not pre-screen and approve physicians like our community. Any hair transplant surgeon can sign up and be listed. Frankly, I think it's a good organization. However, it isn't one that screens and/or evaluates physicians before listing them on the site. Have you taken a look at our recommended physicians? Dr. Reddy, Shapiro, and Farjo are all on the list.
  23. Hi, not at all, I just wasn't sure if 'evidence' meant you thought I was making an accusation against either Dr. which I surely was not, I've been in contact with both, they are both great. The breakdowns you got are pretty much in line what I did (and not coincidentally those were the last three standing for me, Dr. Diep made it to semi-finals) My breakdowns were (in order I got them): Dr. Rahal: 3900 (FUT) for hairline, temples, and zones I guess 3-4 leaving crown/vertex aloine Dr. Diep: 2500 for front only (would not do multi-days so I don't have a good idea of total, say 3500-3900 since most Drs. agree 1000-1500 for crown) Dr. Lorenzo: 3700-4200 which was based on 2700 for the hairline I wanted an then 1000-1500 for crown/vertex Dr Feriduni: 3000-4000 which was for hairline and behind, zones 3 an 4 and part of 5 Dr. Erdogan: 4700 for a 'perfect result', I believe 2700 was for front/mid-scalp 2000 was for 70s cm vertex. Not so sure i care about getting 30 cm sq in my vertex (especially since that would all be 3s and 4s for about 6000 hairs there alone) as i am fine if that looks a little thinning. I'd be just as happy limiting the vertex to 1000 grafts and putting those in the mid-lne so the breakdown would be 2700 hairline/temples, 1000 midline, 1000 vertex. I in fact want to do some nice temple points and bring those forward and by my research that is around 400 grafts and singles at that so maybe even 3000 hairline/temples, 1000 midline, 1000 crown/vertex. Dr. Erdogan does seem to go for home runs and remember he not only goes for a lot of grafts but a lot of 2, 3 and 4 hair ones. In that he is a lot like Dr. Reddy whose results first drew me to FUE; my original thought process after seeing how he cherry-picked high hair FUs was that i'd rather get 7500+ hairs with a 2500 FUE and no scar than 7500 hairs with a 4000 FUT and a scar since in the first case if things went wrong I'd still have good donor left AND no scar. However most of Dr. Reddy's results were 2000=2500 FUEs. As mentioned however, there are clearly two schools of thought; one is to use mainly 1s and 2s for a soft natural result the other is to use 3s and 4s (except for hairline) for a dense one. Dr. Erdogan seems to combine (depending on how you look at it) the best of both worlds. I am not sure of your age but personally I don't know if I'd do huge Dr. Erdogan00 session at 25 and deplete a good part of your donor AND you high hair FUs. It really depends again on age, Norwood pattern and anticipated loss. Given my (erhem) advanced age, I chose (after agonizing deliberation, probably as agonizing for every one else as myself ) Dr. Erdogan. I want a home run. I want one and done. I think 47000-5000 grafts will get me the temples, hairline density and enough coverage in crown to support those as I could possibly want. I do plan on being very active in the hairline design and in requesting if possible a little more 1-2 for the front (soft) and a little more irregular hairline. From all accounts he is quite amenable to discussing exactly what you want before hand with both pictures and drawing different versions until yo and he are both happy. This latter point was critical to me, I don't care if a Drs. posted results are good but he ignores the patient for a large part as I've read some other top surgeons here do.
  24. Man one thing that is clear when you see his posted results; he LOADS up on 3s and 2s.I mean as in 1/2to 2/3 of his grafts are threes. THat is some serious cherry picking. Like Dr. Reddy on steroids. I do like his work but often his hairline looks a little harsh, that could be the explanation. I wonder if one could ask for more 1s and 2s for hairline?
  25. I don't really know anything about Dr. Reddy vs generic fin, which is what I take. I know that I've seen done reps say that Propecia is better, which I'm skeptical about. I think that prior may take propecia more regularly because they don't have to mess with cutting it up. I've held strong on my genetic finasteride which has a label use of reducing dht and helping with the prostate, so I'm but switching. So, I can't give you a definite scientific answer and can only say that my genetic has served me well. I don't think you can go wrong with propecia.
