Advice for Hair Loss Sufferers Considering Hair Transplant Surgery

  1. Dr. B Sugunakar Reddy, Hair Transplant Surgeon in Hyderabad did a hair transplant on me in Aug 2013, implanted close to 1800 grafts in one sitting using FUT (strip) method . The results were extremely pleasing, he knows what he is doing, clearly told me upfront, that he would need check the laxity of my head skin, prior to promising how many grafts can be implanted. He said, if he takes more skin than permitted, the wound wouldn't be closed properly leaving a huge scar. The hair looked very natural, and no one could tell that I got a HT, the scar is invisible. Great job , Thank you Dr. BSR ! He being the a renowned plastic surgeon in that area made my hair very natural with minimum scar. I wish he could improve his clinic ambience, does some marketing, and would plant hairs little more denser. Dr. Sugunakar Reddy is a medical graduate from Osmania, one of the oldest in that region. He did his MBBS, MS and MCH from the same, the entry is highly selective. There are so many bogus clinics in Hyderabad, spend money on aggressive marketing, one of my friend went to that famous clinic located in jubilee Hills, The surgeon took more skin than permitted, it took 8 months to heal. When you see any Surgeon, ask them whether he would implant or assistants are implanting. The HT surgeon needs skilled hands, lot's patience and great imagination to blend the science and art to have the desired results. My pictures themselves speak about Dr.BSR's diligent work, I have no qualms recommending him to have a Hair transplant.
  2. Hi all - It's a pleasure to share my hair-story with experts and physicians here. I was a college freshman, 22, with oodles of confidence, thick hair, when my hair-fall got triggered due to stress. For the first couple of years, I really tried to put things under the carpet. It was not until I turned 26, I realized I need to treat my hair-fall and baldness problem. Initially, what started off as a small bald patch, spread in the entire crown area. Although, I am extremely cool, calm and try to stay confident, the fact that I am continuing to lose hair does scare me. It was not until six years into my hair loss(I am 28 now), that I've just started applying Kirkland Minoxidil 5% + Dr. Reddy's 1 mg Finasteride. I am also taking some ProteinX Supplement, Biotin 10mg. I plan to curb any further hair-fall followed by a hair restoration surgery, with the expectation of decent results in the next couple of years. I have a few quick questions : 1) What would be my Norwood Scale judging by the photos in the attachments? Would Norwood V-A be correct? 2) Its been just a day, since I started apply Minoxidil 5% + Finasteride. How long should I wait, before I see any positive results. Is it possible to regrow hair, that I've recently lost? 3) When should I plan for my Hair Restoration Surgery? I am currently 28. Thanks a tonne!

  4. Hello Folks, There was lot of jabbing going back and forth about this post among various members. Dr. Sugunakar Reddy is a medical graduate from Osmania, one of the oldest in that region. He did his MBBS, MS and MCH from the same, the entry is highly selective. As far as I know he is a well known plastic surgeon in Hyderabad, India for nearly 20 years, and is currently into HT after getting training from USA. He did a hair transplant on me, implanted close to 1800 grafts in one sitting using FUT (strip) method . BSR ! Bubblegum ! USA

  6. Your comments are not appreciable, I got my hair transplant done by Dr.B.Sugunakar Reddy, he did a commendable transplant, and the results are very good. He was my surgeon, I am his patient. I don't have free time like some members to sit and make random, cavalier comments on genuine, qualified doctors. Fortunately, I am an enterprenuer, make decent living and doesn't need to work for any one. Best... Madhu Vanga MBA, Rph(USA)
  7. I think if you are based in UK and looking for quality FUE for your hairline you should hop on the Eurostar to Belgium. Look at the doctors there. I just had 1800 FUE with Dr Feriduni on my hairline. It cost 6,500 pounds. Very easy from the UK. I wouldn't go to a UK clinic if I were you but if you insisted I'd say go to Dr Ragu Reddy but I think if its FUE you want and hairline then Dr. Feriduni would be your man. All the best buddy!
  8. Three Bullet Points about Dr.Sugunakar Reddy : Qualifications: Dr. BSR did his MBBS, MS and M.Ch from Osmania Medical College a premier http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medical_college in Hyderabad, India and is often ranked among the best medical colleges in the nation. It was founded in 1846 as the Hyderabad Medical School, making it one of the oldest http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medical_school in the world. Professionalism: He under promises and over delivers, The hair transplant is a walk in the park for a plastic surgeon of his caliber, who day in out do trauma cases for more than 20 years in a reputed hospital. Those involve accidents, burns sometimes more than 50%, A surgeon needs to be aware of the whole human body, quick thinking, and many more fine motor skills needed to operate under pressure. Hair transplant Surgery : Dr.BSR trained in USA , and did a Hair transplant on me, I can sent anyone pictures, please email to (contact information removed by moderator). I was simply amazed about his knowledge, skills, and patience. He explained, that he would only do 1700-2200 grafts per sitting, as if you take out more skin, the wouldn't close properly leaves a huge scar, and that's the standard procedure followed in USA. All my friends who got hair transplants after me are extremely pleased with his attitude, commitment and truthfulness. The amount he charges about 1 lack is very reasonable. Even after a year after the Surgery, he still replies to my emails or answers his phone. Sincerely, Madhu Vanga MBA, Rph (contact information removed by moderator)
  9. Hello Everyone, This is Madhu Vanga , a clinical pharmacist from California. I am surprised about the other member comments about Dr.Sugunakar reddy, He did a Hair transplant in Aug 2013 for me, He did an outstanding job, the results were simply amazing. One of my friend a cardiologist from USA gave Dr. BSR name, who is a renowned plastic surgeon in Hyderabad. The hair growth was so natural, as I work in a medical community all the other physicians in my clinic were simply stunned, as the scar is hardly visible, the transplanted hair was so natural. The proof is in the pudding, any one who reads this can send me an email to (contact information removed by moderator), I will send you before and after pictures. Dr.BSR is really down to earth, and only charged around 1 lack rupees ( VS others 1.5 Lack rupees), and his clinic has no frills, and was able to pass on those discounts to consumers. I recommended to 6 of my friends, they are extremely happy with his work. Madhu Vanga MBA Rph, California, USA
  10. Hey mate, from being on this forum and doing lots of research id suggest you try and choose one of the recommended surgeons on this forum. If you want to stay in the UK there is Dr. Reddy at restore hair clinic. Good priced surgery also in Belgium and Turkey with some top docs. All I would say is check out the surgeons work first. I personally wouldn't have surgery with anyone who wasn't recommended on this site. Hope you choose wise... Good luck.
  11. I’m looking for a UK surgeon to perform some front hairline work – possibly 1500 to 1750 grafts based on a previous examination. I’d prefer FUT as I don’t want to shave my head to zero and am looking for better rate of follicular transection density - obviously I want to consider the best UK surgeons to do this. I’ve seen Unshaven FUE but I’m a bit sceptical of the results. I’ve researched UK surgeons and found two lists one this forum and one on the IAHRS website, both listed below. How easy is it to get on these lists? I can find plenty of reviews for everyone except Edward Ball and Asim Shahmalak, can anyone shed any light on these two surgeons and their results. I’m aware of Mr Shahmalak’s celebrity clients but I tend not to take those too seriously and am looking for some objective reviews. International Alliance of Hair Restoration Surgeons UK List Bessam Farjo - Manchester Raghu Reddy – London Asim Shahmalak – Manchester Edward Ball - London hairtransplantnetwork.com List of Recommended Surgeons Dr. Jos? Lorenzo - Manchester Bessam Farjo - Manchester Raghu Reddy – Private Clinic London
  12. Thanks theportchesterpirate, I'll get some pics up as soon as I can. In the meantime I'm being put off the Elite Hair Restoration clinic I initially visited (here is some examples of their work, I've requested more to be sure - Patient Story 1 - Elite Hair Restoration), I can't find much feedback at all about the surgeons or the clinic. And I'm looking at Dr Reddy at The Private Clinic (his work is labelled, there are two surgeons here and Dr. Reddy looks, at least to my rookie eyes, to be superior to Dr Kouremada-Zioga - Before and After image gallery / The Private Clinic). I saw a member of this forum post some pics of his treatment performed by Dr. Reddy and they seemed promising. Would you agree he is a reputable surgeon?
  13. I'm not sure how Dr. Reddy comes in here?? besides starting with "R" though I'm glad you had a good experience with him
  14. Nice summary and interesting result from Dr. Reddy indeed! Do you know what density was achieved in the bald areas that were covered? The pen is attractive indeed, I don't know why it's not widely used yet. The trauma caused to the capillaries that supply blood to both existing and transplanted grafts is a major concern and, as I understood, the cause of shock loss. Btw have you experienced any shock loss? Or it's too soon to tell? And was the price 6 pounds / graft? or EUR ? The currency sign is not displayed correctly on my system. Thanks and good luck with your recovery!
  15. Hi, I've recently joined the forum after booking a HT consultation and seeing as there are seems to be so many knowledgable people on here I thought I'd ask for some opinions before my visit to the clinic in a few weeks time. I've been suffering from hair loss in the crown and the front sides (sorry, I'm not sure of the name of the area but you'll see what I mean from the pics) for around 4-5 years now. At first it wasn't very noticeable but then the hole in my crown started getting bigger. At first I covered with Toppik but then went to see my GP who referred me to a Dermatologist who prescribed me Minoxidil. From the shedding horror stories I'd read I was reluctant to use it and didn't actually start using it for 6 months. I ended up staying on it for a year and suffered quite a big shed (thank god for Toppik) but then the shedded hair grew back but I saw no regrowth of hair that wasn't there before use. I also didn't seem to loose anymore so it seems it was working in stopping me loose further hair. I kept the Regaine up for 12 months but as I have to use Toppik it got too much of a pain to use having to wash my hair constantly. Then things took a turn for the worse a few weeks after stopping the Regaine. Hair was shedding rapidly so I decided to join the Boots Hair Retention Program where they supply Propecia on private prescription (unfortunately at ?30 a month!). I've been on this for approx 15 months and I have seen a very slight improvement in the general thickness of my hair the large hole in the crown and front sides remain. At this stage it's unlikely I'll see any regrowth in those areas. So after reading an article in Mens Health Magazine and The Daily Mail I arranged a consultation with The Private Clinic based in London. Their two surgeons are Dr. Raghu Reddy and Dr. Kouremada Zioga (I believe Dr Reddy is recommended by this site) and they only perform FUE HT's (Dr Zioga can even do unshaven FUE but at a higher price). If you're still reading I'll finally come on to my questions: I've no idea how much it's going to cost. They claim to charge on average of ?2.50 per hair but I have no idea how many hairs would be required. Can any experts on this forum care to estimate from the pics I've attached. I'd be looking to fill the holes in with enough density to not be using Toppik everyday before stepping out side. As you can see my hair at the sides and back is pretty thick so I assume I will have plenty of donor hair? Is it necessary to continue with Propecia after a HT? My thinking being that saving the costs of that and Toppik would help offset the cost of a HT. Thanks for reading
  16. Hi guys, I'm a new member to the forum but I've been reading through some of the reviews and recommendations on here over the last couple of weeks and sounds like there is a lot of support and a lot of people with good info on here. I'm 27 years old and suffered with gradual hair loss since I was about 20. Until recently it hasn't really bothered me, but having just finished a long-term relationship I've become more concious of my hair loss and have looked into doing something about it. I've recently had 2 consultations for possible FUE; One with the The Private Clinic (Dr. Raghu Reddy) and one with Elite Hair Restoration (Dr. Hassan Nurein). I haven't found much information on Dr. Nurein so not sure if he is worth considering but Dr. Reddy seems to have a good reputation. Can any recommend any other good surgeons/companies in the UK for possible FUE treatment please? I'm serious about getting this done soon but am very concious that research is important and I don't want to rush into things. Thanks for any help and recommendations. Mike.
  17. hi guys , i had been suffering from dermatitis from over 4 - 5 years , from 18 years of age to 22 , i thought it will never end , my whole scalp gets white after i wash and when i get my hairs wet and a lot of hairs fall , , i think that took my texture , after shampoo while day some white thing keep on shedding , it shed like someone has sprikled talc on my hairs i was very irritated by it , but after 4 years of struggle a dermatologist gave me a lotion named DANDRID . I USED IT FOR AROUND 1-2 MONTHS REGUALR , then 2wice a week and now after 15 days , it did wonders , my scalp is clean now no dandruff nothing , but yes if i go in sun sometimes i see very minimal dandruff but not very severe , hair loss is the only problem now , for that i have convinced my self to use finasteride and i am on dr.reddy finax from 2 months , i have not seen any side effects but scared of them , i sometimes regret i should have started 3-4 years before but who knows it can bring any side - effects , but your teen and college days are the best of your life , when you dont need to worry about anything and your smells awsum . and yes i have read many people stories on finasteride good results god knows if they are saying truth or betraying us , but everyone says finasteride is the only hope so i made a decision to try . i hope my hair gets thicker and fuller and ofcourse i will go for a ht . SHAMPOO YOUR HAIRS DAILY I THINK OR AT LEAST 3 TIMES A WEEK , I HAD MY OWN EXPERIENCE WHEN PEOPLE SAYS DO NOT SHAMPOO YOUR HAIR , ALWAYS PUT OIL, BELIEVE IT WILL MAKE HAIRS WORSE , KEEP THE SCALP CLEAN thanks , akash
  18. Boots online Propecia is good value for money. You can order it online via their hair loss service and if you buy 3 months at a time it's ?90 which is ?30 per month. I was paying ?45 per month before from my Pharmacy with a private prescription. I did get some Dr. Reddy 5mg once from Boots but having read the forums I never tried it, although the chemist said it would do the exact same job as propecia.
  19. Hi, I am from India. I am 28 and I have been losing hair for about 6 years but lost most of what is lost in the last 4 years. My personal assessment is that I am between NW 4 and NW5. I have been thinking of a undergoing a HT for some time now. I have consulted some clinics or doctors in Hyderabad, India. 1. ADHI India- They have reviewed and said that I will need 4300 grafts. They said they do only FUE using some special machines and bla bla bla. I was told they charge some Rs. 45/ graft but under some scheme they could do it for Rs 110K. The offer was lucrative but I was still doubtful about their quality and results. They appeared to be pushing me towards HT by them by hook or crook. 2. I have consulted Dr. Puli Ravindra Reddy. The consultation lasted only 5 mins. He said he won’t do FUE and will do only FUE. He said I need about 4k grafts and he will do it in one session. He does only FUT and so out of my list. 3. I was impressed by the list of celebrities advertised by ADVANCED HAIR STUDIO and made an appointment. Their consultant showed lot of patience and answered my queries well though most of the time he seemed advertising their establishment. He recommended a combo of laser treatment and their HT (They don’t accept if you say it's HT- They call it Strand by strand ultimate). He said while ALT helps retaining existing hair and strengthening it by making DHT hormone mix with blood and the HT helps covering the frontal area with high density. He was keen on covering the frontal area than Top and mid scalp. His reasoning was I need that to have youthful looks for my age. I was greatly impressed by the laser technique. It will go on for 10 months for 30 sessions and after that I wont need to use any medicine since there is no DHT. However, For these 10 months, they will give me some shampoo and conditioner, Minoxidil and a herbal pill. He said their doctors can extract 6-7 K grafts even from FUE in single session and 12k grafts with a combination of FUT and FUE. So I was impressed. First with the list of cricketers, then laser technique. I have decided to go on with Laser thing and HT with them. After coming home, I had checked internet for reviews. I read horrible reviews but most reviews are for their hair systems, which they call Strand by strand cosmetic. I have not read any review for their HT work. So after reading the reviews on their hair systems, I am very skeptical now. Though there are good reviews about the Dr. Pathuri Madhu, He does only FUT and so out of my list. So friends, please suggest me a good FUE clinic or surgeon from India. Anywhere in India is ok with me, I was almost going to do it with ADVANCED HAIR STUDIO. Are they bad in case of HTs too? what about their laser technique? Please please help me. I am attaching some photos so you can comment on my condition too.
  20. Hi Splendido, You may be a candidate for FUE. Consulting with experienced FUE surgeons will be the best way to determine your candidacy. Dr. Reddy is excellent, and I highly recommend consulting with him. If you live in the UK, you may also want to research Dr. Lorenzo. Good luck! Blake (Future_HT_Doc) Forum Co-Moderator and Editorial Assistant
  21. Dr. Raghu Reddy Hair Transplant Surgeon in London, United Kingdom
  22. Santos, In the UK, I would consider consulting with: Dr. Lorenzo, Dr. Reddy, and Dr. Farjo. Good luck!
  23. Bert, If you want to stay in the UK, I highly recommend consulting with Dr. Lorenzo and Dr. Farjo at Intjertocapilar & Farjo and Dr. Reddy. This will be helpful for several reasons: 1. They are all excellent physicians and will educate without pressuring your into a procedure; 2. Dr. Lorenzo and Dr. Reddy both specialize in FUE whereas Dr. Farjo(s) specialize in strip. Consulting with both trusted strip and FUE experts will help you decide which procedure is best and what you can expect.
  24. I forgot about Dr. Reddy, I like his work and you're right he gets unusually good results for the amount of grafts he uses. Good luck with your procedure!
  25. Thank you for your consideration of Dr. Rahal. I'm responding to your post because some of your comments are inaccurate and I'd like to address some of the issues you brought up. You stated that you are concerned about the number of grafts being recommended for your case by Dr. Rahal when compared to the number of grafts recommended by Dr. Reddy. Every doctor will have varying estimates but this can be due to a few reasons. 1.) Ability to dense pack. It is well known that Dr. Rahal is a recognized premiere doctor for high density so this alone requires that more grafts are to be used in a single session. The recommendation was based on what you stipulated as being your desired result so the estimate reflects the number of grafts necessary to achieve this result. Harvesting and transplanting 2000 to 3000 grafts in one day is not unusual as most of the better FUE clinics can and do perform these sized procedures every day. Popping can be an issue if done incorrectly but this actually has more to do with one's physiology than the density placed. If the patient has scalp tissue that is "oily" or "greasy" then even the lowest density transplant will have plenty of popping of the grafts being placed. However, there are some tricks of the trade that are employed to address this popping that prevents it from being an issue. Every clinic has cases where popping occurs so if someone has told you otherwise then you should question their integrity. 2.) Total area of intended coverage. The recipient area can and often does vary based on what your doctor perceives as being your requirements. Many times follicular units must be placed into the native hair behind the target recipient zone so that the result will blend with the native hair for the most natural result possible. I am not aware of who you are specifically but your profile indicates that you are a NW3v. The general rule of thumb is that for each level one is positioned on the Norwood hair loss chart they'll need approximately 1000 grafts to get adequate density and coverage. Our estimate, assuming you are a NW3 (based on your profile), would be in line with this rule but it is not a rule without exceptions. Regardless, it does not appear that the estimate would be pushing the boundaries for density. Having too few grafts placed will leave the density lacking thus meaning more procedures along with an increase in expense. 3.) Differences in aesthetics preferences. This is a big factor to consider as it will greatly separate one estimate from another. If the hairline is lower and more aggressive in design then logically more grafts will be necessary to achieve the desired result compared to a higher more conservative hairline which would require fewer grafts. Our use of a technician for extraction of grafts is not unusual and Dr. Rahal works with the technician during the procedure to make sure the grafts are being safely extracted with no problems. Many doctors use technicians for extraction of grafts and this is not unusual. Any doctor that is worth considering will acknowledge that the procedure is only as good as their technicians and that it is a team effort that gets the job done efficiently and reliably. Each technician is highly specialized in our clinic and they do their job exceptionally well. In fact, we are working on a special project to showcase just how good Rahal FUE has become. It is very impressive and we are anxious to share what we can do. We wish you luck with your procedure with Dr. Reddy and we hope that you document your procedure online for the benefit of all.
