Advice for Hair Loss Sufferers Considering Hair Transplant Surgery

My Story

  1. I just learnt of a personal tragedy Dr. Radha had to go through during the time Baldboy, Sambaba and Black Panther had tried to contact her in vain. It would not have been possible for her to communicate to anyone let alone her patients. This should absolve her of all the complaints.
  2. Hi, If you are considering going abroad for your transplant then Dr. Path is the best and the most affordable doctor compared to going to Canada or US. Only country where the costs are close to India is turkey, you may find good docs over there but be careful. Dr. Sethi has got very good reviews when it comes to FUE almost comparable to Dr. Bhatti but If you are leaning towards FUT then you can consider Dr. Suneet Soni and Dr. Mayank Singh apart from Dr. Radha(no doubt she is one among top). Both docs are delivering impressive results. All the best. Wish
  3. Greetings fellow follicles! I am new. This is my first post. I have been a voracious reader/follower of this community the last one week. This has been a brilliant tool in educating oneself on wide range of hair related problems. Thumbs up! I am looking to get my first hair transplant done on me. My hair loss story on my profile will give a fair understanding of my background. But I suspect most won't bother to take that extra effort. So, I am going to repost it here. But before anyone gets bored of it half way through reading it, let me first ask for the advise for which this thread was created. I shall post my history in my second post following this. I am from India. I understand the recommended doctors from India on this community are Drs. Tejinder Bhatti, Kapil Dua, Pathuri Madhu, Radha Rani and Suneet Soni. I have mailed each one of them and have had online consultations. All doctors have recommended about 2500 grafts except Dr. Suneet Soni (4000 grafts). And all doctors have recommended FUSS (commonly known as FUT) except Dr. Bhatti. Naturally! Being a torch bearer for FUE (Before anyone jumps on me, this is not meant negatively. I am merely complimenting him for being a pioneer in that field). The costs for all of them comes about the same more or less. I am not scared of a scar from the FUSS. (But if FUE will give me the same result as the FUSS, il gladly take FUE for its easier post op scenarios. Since this has always been a contentious topic, and no solid proof to rely on than bickering and bantering from both sides, I am still not able to come to a conclusion which procedure to choose. But the general consensus I find is that the first surgery has to be the FUSS to protect the donor for future surgeries of FUSS or FUE.) I am not driven by society and its pressure or to be an agreeable material for marriage. Neither am I depressed or overly concerned about being bald. I am going to do it just for the aesthetics. I generally love all good looking things. If it doesn't work out, it doesn't work out. I am more than ready to move on. But not before giving it a shot. All the help in choosing a surgeon off the recommended list will be very much appreciated. (Please don't ask me to carefully study and choose one . I've read a lot of their patient cases here in the community and I am well informed about them. I am looking for a consensus from you wise people that I can follow. Treat this as a poll if you guys want to.) Thanks. Cheers!
  4. Hi Shera, If you read my first post you would know that I am not looking for an assessment of my condition. I just need to know if anyone has any information regarding the FUE practice of Dr. Radha, either from someone who has had it done through her or has seen some of her FUE work.
  5. Hi all, I have joined the forum recently, but I have been following the site for sometime now. To update, i had a transplant with Dr. A ****** (shortlised based on his published results and IAHRS candidature) in Oct 2013. It was a combination of FUT and FUE, with some 500 beard grafts as well. As per plan, it was to be a 5000 graft requirement as I was Norwood IV/V, but the results turned out not really great. Additionally the scar was also really bad. I am now planning to go for another hair transplant and based on the research in the forum, I was thinking of getting it done from Dr. Radha Palakurthi as she has very good review here. I will post my current pics. I need some advice from group members on the selection of HT surgeon and also on the procedure which I should adopt for transplant(FUT/FUE/BHT). I had a discussion with Dr. Radha on phone and shared photos also based on which said I will need to do scar correction and rather than going for selection of procedure I should concentrate on result as I was more inclined towards FUE/BHT rather than FUT.
  6. Hello HRN community, I'm writing in here to report my hair transplant progress. It's been 9 months since my surgery and it's been a wild ride to say the least. Being a silent spectator of the forum posts here at HRN, I'm glad I made the right decision going through all the experiences (good and bad) posted by various people here. Background: Indian Origin, straight hair, thinning hair, receding hairline since 19yrs of age, family history of hair loss, consistent non-veg diet, ex-smoker, no medications used prior to HT. Doctor: Chose Dr. Radha Rani Palakruthi because of her results, patient reviews and her one patient per day policy. On meeting her I realized how charming and affectionate of a person she is. Looking at my pictures Dr. Radha adviced that I'd need around 3200 grafts for a healthy and dense hairline, assuming that the donor area would be healthy. At 26 years of age, these below are my pics pre-op.
  7. Hi guys, Has anyone here got an FUE by Dr. Radha? I've had my first transplant via FUT through her. Looking to go in for my second transplant to fill in some density. I see there are no documented results of her FUE procedure on this forum so if anyone has anything to share, it would be very helpful in making the decision. Thanks!
  8. Hi, Sorry for not updating for these months. Its been almost 4 months now, I see hairs are growing here and there but not at full mark, off course need to wait for few more months to see the complete results. @sambaba1983, Sorry to hear, can you please check with David (moderator) for no response from Dr Rdaha, I am sure he will help you to get your quires cleared from Dr Radha. Yes, I too experienced that her response is delayed but she do respond most of the queries. It needs to be escalated if it is real issue so that it will be helpful for others who is looking for HT from Dr. Radha and let Radha too improve based on feedback. Attached couple for photos took both in dark and bright light, the one in bright light still seen thin and I am taking 1 Mg Finpecia daily as per doctor suggestions. Please let me know your comments. 9. I am looking to do a HT soon and am considering surgeons. There are recommended surgeons India and Thailand. I have been talking to: Dr. Bhatti Dr. Radha Dr. Path Does anyone have any recommendations out of these? Anyone else? I would prefer if i didn't need to have my head shaved. The surgeons recommend 2000-3000 grafts mostly.
  10. Hi folks, Thanks to this excellent site (HRN) for recommending Dr Radha, I have done my HT with her on 30th June 2014, and would like to share my experience. I live in India and speak the same language that is spoken in Vizag (Visakhapatnam), so I had no issues with finding my way in the city. Based on online consultation, email & photo exchanges, my surgery was fixed for 30th June. Day 0: Reached Vizag by Train, then proceeded to Hotel. That night I washed my hair with Betadine solution. Day 1: Reached the hospital by 8 AM. The friendly staff (Prasanna, Dr Ujjwala, Dr Sashi) welcomed us. My hair was washed with some liquid and dried using a dryer. Then blood sample was taken for HIV, Hepatitis B & C tests. After that I was made to sit in a consulting room where Dr. Radha explained the whole procedure. During the operation, Dr. Radha told me that though my donor area is not 100% perfect, she could extract 4,113 grafts since my scalp laxity was very good. Dr. Radha initially said I would require 2 sessions (since I was at Norwood Level 6) for complete coverage, second session being after 1 year or so. However, this amazing doctor managed to cover the entire area (even upto the crown) with enough density to create that 'illusion'. After all, HT is all about creating the illusion of fullness anyway. In total, the surgery took about 9 hours. Grafts details: 1 Hair - 1030 2 Hair - 2849 3 Hair - 234 Total number of grafts: 4113 Total number of hairs: 7424 I do not feel any excessive pain in the scar area. Day 2: Went to the clinic for post operative cleaning. The staff cleaned my transplanted area & donor area and explained how the same needs to be done for the next 15 days. I am attaching pictures below of Pre-op and Post-op. All photos are taken with my mobile. I will upload high resolution photos taken by the clinic once they supply them to me. Today is 3rd day after the operation, and I am already feeling light itching in the transplanted area. I have been asked to wear the head band for 5 days. I will keep this thread updated with latest developments and more pictures. Dr. Radha is a true professional and excellent human being. All her staff are perfect in what they do. I highly recommend Dr. Radha to anyone looking for HT. Regards
  11. Decent result..considering your large hair loss and weak donor. At least it is much better than Dr. Radha's procedure.
  12. I’d like to document and share my FUT HT done by Dr.Radha with HRSN community. Any constructive feedback or advise on my progress and advice regarding best practice postop hair care would be appreciatively received. I've put in high quality photos for people to view. Background & self-image To put thing in perspective. I consider my hairloss to be on the mild side of moderate. It has improved since I’ve taken finasteride and 10% minoxidil for the last 15 months. I think that I have reasonable density but lack a defined hairline especially on my left side. I’ve grown my hair long for the last year and part it to the left as it conceals the thinning on the left side. With hair clay/putty and Toppik, my hair looks quite acceptable. I thought long and hard for about a year before deciding to book my HT with Dr. Radha. I could have just live without a HT and continue to conceal with toppik and use clay/putty in my hair to build volume. But it’s a pain in the arse to do this everyday and take fin and minox everyday, and my hairloss is slowly and progressively worsening. I made my decision to do the HT a year ago and searched for about a year for a suitable surgeon. In photo 1 & 3 I have hair clay/puty and Toppik. In photo 2 I have only Toppik. 1: 2: 3: Pre-Op I met Dr.Radha in her Vizag office at 3pm after only arriving at 1.30pm at the airport. I was pleased by the set-up, it was clean and clinical-looking. Staff were inviting and friendly. Dr.Radha and I chatted for a while about general things and then she asked me questions about my general health and HL history and what I was expecting or wanting from my HT. She examined my hair and hairline, then donor area. She was pleased about my donor area, stating it was perfectly healthy. She was confident to be able to achieve maximum density for me from what I have. After the consultation, I left the office and made the most of my final tourist days in India. The next 4 days will be confined to the hotel room for rest and recovery. Before I left, I was given pre-surgery shampoo to wash my hair that night and immediately before arriving for the surgery. Op Day I checked-in at 8.30am at Dr. Radha clinic. Her assistant took a blood test. Short time after Dr. Radha arrived and welcomed me to the operating theatre. For the strip harvesting, I was required to lie on my stomach. I was given local anaesthesia injections. My donor area hair was trimmed, ice was the donor area and in few mins, I believed the donor area was harvested. Absolutely no pain at all. Had no idea if I was being cut or stitched at any point, felt nothing at all. Dr. Radha told me harvests and stitched up the donor area in thirds in minimise trauma and maximise healing. I makes complete sense to me. After the strips were harvested and I was completely stitched up, I was asked to sit up and go freshen up if I wanted. I was given a meal, Subway was a real treat after the 4 weeks of local India food bacons I was backpacking through the small towns so western food was hard to come by, but additionally I wanted to live as Indian as I could for the time I was there to experience it’s way of life. I think about 15-20min passed before I was asked to return back to the operating theatre. Dr. Radha requested me to lie facing upward for the HT procedure. I was given anaesthesia nerve blocked, one jab above each eyebrow. Graft slits were made for the follicular units in the hairline first and then progressed backwards (I assume this as I felt jabbing in my hairline first, then I can’t remember much after 30 minutes). Pre-op Dr.Radha estimated 2900-3000 grafts due to my ethnicity. Being of SE-Asian heritage means my density isn’t such high as Caucasian or middle-eastern folks. However after the HT procedure was completely finished, she told me she was able to extract 3260 grafts from the standard-sized strip. She warmed me against wanting more than 3000 as my scalp is borderline tight, but I wasn’t able to guarantee a good clean scar, but also to preserve the donor area for future HTs. As is stands, I was more than happy with 3260 graft, I was ecstatic, almost 400 graft more that original estimated. Surgery started at 10.30am and finished at 7.30pm. Dr.Radha was in the OT the entire time. She is very hands-on and involved with the whole HT process. I rate Dr.Radha very highly Pre-op photos This photo front on with flash looks so BAD, but you can see there's not much there, just a few strands but quite a lot of fuzz that recently grew back from 10% minox Immediately post op photos Dr. Radha's suturing skills are beyond what I was expecting. I've very happy. Op details graft count: 3261 1s: 1254 2s: 1882 3s: 125 Total hairs: 5393. Not bad for SE-asian hair i figure. If you look at my scar photo, I do notice more 2s above and below the scar. Looks like the 2nd HT will be the HT that is "THE" HT to end my journey my hairline appears to have been quite densely packed likely with 1s with the odd 2s thrown in and then tapering off in density with 2s and a few 3s for the middle and rear area, left side more than right side. I'm really happy with the final results immediately post op. More updates to come in the next few days. I’m currently on day 7 post-op. I’m doing very well, hardly any scab formation. Hair grafts are strong and thick and non have fallen out yet. No redness, no swelling. FUT scar looks thin and healing very well, it’s only mildly numb. I have the nylon retaining stitches out come today. Feel free to PM me or add me as your contact. For future Dr.Radha patients, I’m more than happy to answer any questions you might have. Regards, Logan
  13. Hello! I'm from Russia. I need a hair transplant surgery. I do not speak English. I need your advice on choosing a doctor: 1) Dr. Kapil Dua 2) Dr. Radha Palakurthi 3) Dr. Sajal Halder, Delhi, India (it is recommended to hairsite.com forum). Which doctor would you recommend me?
  14. jtown, I agree with couple of others here with regards to actual number of grafts. Though you have only two pictures in my opinion about somewhere around 4500-6000 grafts total should give you good result. It would however be good to have some more angles including a look at donor hairs and side face/head profile. Since you have limited funds....With regards to rates you will probably find very good surgeons for lesser price in India. Turkey is definitely an option. (2.5euro a graft!), India is definitely an option with more cost savings compared to most other places - in my opinion. Approximately around 1 euro to1.2 euros. There are several recommended HT surgeons on HTN whom you may send your pictures and have a free e-mail and/or skype consultation. Some of the currently network recommended surgeons in India are Dr. Bhatti(David a forum moderator had his HTwith him), Dr. Radha, Dr. Madhu, etc... I was a high Norwood (6/7) and had my HT in New Delhi at Eugenix under Dr. Pradeep Sethi and Dr. Arika Bansal and quite happy with my results. I chose them based on my personal research and review of cases and aesthetics of hairlines plus review and comparison of other surgeons. The best advice I could give you is to NOT to rush your procedure and give some time for research and thorough review of procedures, surgeons, results and also option of flying out of London for overseas procedure. travel and stay wise most clinics will arrange this for you including pick up and drop off to and from airport and also to and from clinic. Some clinics also have in house accommodation for stay and recuperation Of course there are plenty helpful people on this forum to guide you. Good luck to you.
  15. Thanks for taking the time to share your experience! Dr. Radha does excellent work. I hope you'll continue to update us on your progress.
  16. my result with dr.radha also poor and she is not responding to email or call please avoid her
  17. hello i am looking for undergoing my 2nd HT. The first one i had in december 2014 with Dr.Radha wasnt a successful one and i want to move on with it. Need suggestions. Thanks regards baldboy.
  18. Hi Everyone, I have recently joined this forum. First and foremost I will like to thank everyone associated with this forum since it gives an immense platform for person like me to make the decisions on HT wisely. I am norwood 5 and considering HT this year. Since I am from India based on this network feedback's and patients recommendation I have decided on the below Doctors 1. Dr Path in Thailand 2. Dr. Radha in India 3. Dr. Madhu in India I seek this forum advice in deciding the best doctor from the listed above since I am more concerned on results than cost. Cheers Raj
  19. I ask David and this was his reply "Dr. Radha requested that her recommendation be suspneded as she has taken a leave of absence from her clinic. I don't know if that is permanent or temporary"
  20. Ok Guys finally i did my surgery with Dr.Radha (Vishakhapatnam.India) on 14/12/2013. Day 1 Dr.Radha met me in evening, saw my hairline .. then donor area .. She found that i have very thin hair on my head , even at the donor area the hair are very very thin.. i was disapointed but she assured that she will try to give me best density. Second disappointing thing is that i have some sort of symmetrical issue of my skull , it means that my skull is quite big frm back side and tilted little towards right in front, hence the donor area skin is very tight . Even after hearing this i assured myself that i must be happy with whatever i get as things are natural and I cant blame anyone for this . Day2 I reached her clinic by 8.30 am , her assistants took my blood for HIV , Hepatatis test which were charged around 750 Rs . Then the doctor arrived, took me to the operation theatre and i was told to lie on my stomach. Then i was given anasthesia injections, some 3 or 4 pricks were given .. but not painful ... then she trimmed the donor area applied some ICE on it and in few mins, the cutting procedure started which was not at all painful . After that she started stitching the area , after the stitches were done she told me to freshen up and have a meal ..I was given Poori Bhaji (Indian Meal) . Then i went back to OT . She told me to sleep facing upward . She said that she will be giving anasthesia by giving a small prick above my eye brows. by the time the graft counting had started. After anasthesia she said she will make several small holes before harvesting those grafts. Then while making small holes she said that she could extract 2976 grafts only . I just replied back by saying No Problem. Now she started inserting those grafts in those holes which she had made. I dont know how did she inserted it because my eyes were covered by cotton and gauge. This procedure ended by 5 pm . I got up from bed went to loo and saw in the mirror. there were some ounces of blood on harvested area. Nothing to be scared about as it is normal. Then i met her said thanks scar was tied with gauge and cotton and a black elastic belt was also tied on my forehead to reduce swelling. and a white cloth was given to me to cover my head before i leave the hospital. My dad was with me and he did the payment procedure. Day 2 Cont... (First Night in Hotel) Before surgery i was given some tablets, during surgery i was given a tablet which i was told to keep below my tongue. Same tablets i took after having my dinner in hotel. Before going to sleep i kept a pillow and rolled a towel and kept above the pillow. The sleeping position was like pillow below my back and the rolled towel below the scar area and i slept in the same position whole night with little pain . I dont know why other members said that first night sleep is difficult and painful .I accept its painful but not that much painful that you would keep yelling and crying whole night. Oh and dont forget to keep icepad under that rolled towel . I did the same and hence i didnt get that much pain i think. Day 3 (Clinic) I went there in morning for shampoo, my head was washed and i was told to wash my head my twice with baby shampoo for 15 days. Then i went back to hotel .
  21. Am I missing something... I can't see Dr. Radha Rani on the interactive map.
  22. till now i didnt get explanation from dr.radha its been 7 months no response from doctor, she should not be recommend here as no followup for the patients
  23. I never see Dr. Radha's clinic posting results or her getting mentioned at all on this forum anymore. I thought clinics had to post at least one result over a certain period of time to comply with recommendation standards? Also with the lack of communication to the patients on this thread, I'm surprised she is still recommended.
  24. Hello All, Warm greeting to everyone. About Me: I am Sandeep from Chennai, India. I have been suffering from hair loss for the past 10 years since the transition of my teenage to adolescent cycle. I have already taken many different medications from Ayurveda, Alpecin to Minoxidil. None of them have met the expectations of mine wrt hair regrowth. I have already lost a considerable amount of hair in the centre of my head (bald spot) and also in the front. I would say 40% of my hair is already lost and the remaining hair in the frontal area are also thin compared to the side and back of the head. Questions: 1) Based upon my research so far and from going through your profile I have zeroed in on two Doctors from India. Dr. Tejinder Bhatti for FUE and Dr. Radha Palakurthi for FUT technique. But I still struggle to choose which technique should I opt for FUE or FUT. Any help on this is much appreciated? 2) Why Dr. Radha Palakurthi profile is not viewable in this website and also she is not listed under recommended doctors from India? Any reasons behind this? I have attached my pictures along with this post. This would help you to access my current situation and for choosing FUE or FUT. Eagerly awaiting for response from Senior members. Thank you. Regards, Sandeep
