Advice for Hair Loss Sufferers Considering Hair Transplant Surgery

  1. I wore a surgical cap home on the airplane and carefully wore a baseball cap if I went outside. Just be careful putting on the hat and especially taking it off. Your head is very numb for weeks and you really don't feel the hat. You just don't want to rub out any grafts that may in in contact with your cap. Your grafts however are quite secure after a couple of days. Just be aware of what your doing and be careful. Your donor area will heal very quickly. I was playing golf within two weeks of surgery. I didn't use any special products and I have NEVER taken any drugs related to hair loss or retention. My wife is a hair dresser and cuts my hair regularly. It's been 8 years since my surgery with Dr. Vories and my wife has seen no hair loss in my recipient areas. I have nothing to gain promoting my website but I have plenty of pictures and videos and dialogue there for everybody to see and read. I average about 3,000 visits to my website each month.
  2. Do what Dr. Vories tells you. He gave me a prescription for pain relief during the first few days. I thought I was tough and didn't take any. That was a mistake. I weened off the prescription and took Ibuprofen after a few days. Careful about 7 days out when you start to shower. Don't rub too vigorously. You will be carefully wash your head over a sink for the first few days. I describe everything you need to do on my website. Best of luck. You have plenty to look forward to.
  3. Pre surgery and 2 days post surgery. 2500 on front hairline and 500 on crown. Dr. Vories was easy to work with and explained every step pre, during, and post. Inly pain i felt was when he was initially numbing my hy head but besides that it’s easier than getting a tattoo. i did choose to get light sedation since ive never had any type of surgery before. I think it did help pass time a little faster. only thing I experienced after was a light fever and chills for a couple hours after i got home.
  4. I decided to share my experience hoping it will help others to make better decisions. I'm 27 and I've been experiencing hairloss for about 5/6 years mostly in the frontal hairline. I have been using Rogaine minoxodil for about 2.5 years and have seen really good results with it. However, I started noticing serious change in the hairline last december and have been thinking about doing HT. I did not want to travel outside of the US since I read mixed reviews of peoples experiences and did not want to become just another case. Since the lockdown started I thought this is the best time to pull the trigger. I went with Dr. Vories of Caroline Hair Surgery. He does the whole process himself and read only good things about him. We started the surgery around 9:30am due to me being late for 20 minutes (Stayed in downtown hotel which was a mistake) and we took 15 min break every 45 minutes. Surgery finished around 3:30 and I went back to hotel. It was mostly painless and smooth experience. I was prescribed pain medicine and sleeping pill. When I got back to hotel and looked at the donor area it did not look what I expected. I expected evenly distributed dots. Recipient area looked exactly how I expected. I decided to wait it to heal and the have a closer look after few days. After waiting for few days I still saw patches of hairs removed and did not look good (I am on day 6 PO and still the same). I emailed the Dr with my concerns but it was suggested that there has been some shedding of donor hair and it will improve over time. Can hair shed right after the surgery? I read some conflicting other Dr's opinions and if hair sheds, it usually happens after at least two weeks. I might be wrong (I hope I am) but in my opinion it was overharvested especially (right side of head) and not evenly spread out (goodbye short haircuts). I thought it was all about punch size but it seems like density and location of harvested grafts plays a huge role too. If you take bunch of grafts from one area and not take anything around it, it looks overharvested. Like, I said I hope Dr is right and it will come back in few month but I highly doubt from what I have read and seen. Recipient area looks like on track and I like the hairline he designed. So there is a good news. There are some blood clots in recipient area but I assume it will disappear in few days. Overall I'm having a mixed feelings right now. Obviously, I need to be more patient but I just wanted to share how I feel and hopefully will have some positive posts next time. Cheers! (Day of surgery and 6 days post surgery images)
  5. I could answer for H&W, yes they do have technicians who do the extractions. The doctor is involved in originally discussing the plan with you, I.e graft total, where to draw the hairline etc.. and then after his technicians are done creating extractions, the doctor comes back into the room to make incisions for where your grafts will go. After he’s done, another group Of techs will place the grafts in. this is a pretty consistent practice Among many of the top surgeons. Only a handful do the extractions themselves, dr. Diep is one that I know that does it. However, consulting with dr. Hasson, rahal, Bisanga and eugenix, they all have technicians who do the extractions. this isn’t a problem, if H&w are putting out consistent results, they have a good team behind them. If you’re choosing H&W, you’re going with one of the best in the world. as for everything else mentioned, someone else may be better equipped to answer. Whether you should do it now, depends on long term medication use & and family history to try to see where you’ll be headed down the road. A lot of the good FUE results I see here, guys could shave their hair down to as little as 0.5 and it’s hardly noticeable. Look up mike thurston on YouTube, he had an fue done and keeps his hair very short, so that could be an example of the expectations
  6. You should definitely consider Dr. Reddy, he’s doing really good work. Check out Mike Thurston on YouTube and Life of Steve.
  7. Hi everyone, I wanted to consult with you all regarding my hair transplant journey. I live in Miami, Florida and traveled to Chicago where I had an FUE surgery with Dr. Sahar Nadimi one year ago and had 1500 grafts put in. At the time, I already felt I had great hair but wanted to restore my hairline which was thinning in the corners. While I must say, the experience with Nadimi's office was 100% exceptional and my donor area did not even look like I had surgery within a week, I mean seriously some of the best donor work I have ever seen. A year later and what i'm facing is that I just don't like the hairline she designed for me, it does not suit my face, does not replicate my natural hairline and doesn't suit my features. I have a long, narrow face and my hairline is now much wider looking it is straight through the center and naturally, there was a dip in the center and less open in the corners. I would never have anticipated a second procedure, but here we are. I consulted with Nadimi and again and while I like her, she is a bit combative and not in line with what my aspirations are she is also apprehensive about doing any work behind the leading edge of the hairline. Thus, i've decided to consult other doctors- including Rahal, Vories, Diep, Hasson and Wong, Bisanga, Cuoto and Bruno Ferreira. I spoke with Vories and was not thoroughly impressed. I spoke with Diep and really liked him, good guy and hit it right on the head- your hairline does not match your face and is the wrong design- he said this without me even saying a word about it which kind of brought me on board with him right way. I know one of your moderators had a surgery with him but I do have to say while he is my first choice, I am highly concerned with his donor sites, and, I have seen some results that were ultimately bad in the long run- bald spots- you've seen these results as well. I do prefer his hairlines and work to Hasson and Wong. I really wanted to work with Diep but ultimately, I just don't see if this is worth the risk. Hair Transplants are about results at the end of the day but some of his post donor sites are unsettling and I have seen results where there are definitely patchy spots in the long run in the donor area, not that this happens with everyone but I just cannot justify the risk. One thing I really appreciated about Nadimi was how amazing my donor site looked after surgery and how it looks now. Moving on, I am now focusing on Dr. Rahal and Hassan. My personal opinions are as follows, I prefer Rahal's hairline work, I think that Hassan produces more V shaped hairlines which would not be a natural look for me. That being said, I am actually leaning toward Hassan just for the fact that I find him to be the most consistent, I really have not seen poor reviews from him, donor issues or dissatisfied clients. If I could count on Rahal, I would prefer to go there but I have heard of recent dissatisfactory reviews and I have also heard he spends very little time in the operating room- the latter less important to me because it's all about results at the end of the day. But am I going to get a bad result from Rahal? While I like his hairline and work better I just see there being more risk with him than Hassan. I have not been able to find recent reviews regarding Rahal and have actually had trouble finding a lot of photos from his post ops. Also not important to me but not impressed with his reps, annoying. It's crazy to me that in my gut i'm leaning toward Hassan while I am not blown away by his hairline results, there is so much hype around them too. I consulted with Konior and I think he's really the best, he felt that Nadimi produced excellent results and politely suggested I work with her again. I however did not consider Konior due to waiting list and cost (18K for 1500 grafts) other than this price, I am mostly pretty price flexible and wouldn't deem this a top criteria. I am straying from Nadimi for facts stated above and also because her primary focus is not Hair transplants, and I believe it's best to work with someone with a single focus. Will also point out that what is great about Nadimi is that you are getting her and Koniors staff- she's in the room the whole time. Lastly, I am considering Bisanga, Ferreira Cuoto- I frankly am almost at the point of removing Bisanga from my list because it feels crazy to fly from Miami to Brussels for a hair transplant when there are great doctors closer. I also am not too thrilled about the thought of being in a foreign country when healing after a procedure and then flying back a prolonged distance, based off of my experience in my first FUE, it's nice to be comfortable after, abroad could be stressful. I am in process of consulting with Ferreira but I don't' think he has the experience of other surgeons I am considering. I would travel to Cuoto because I think his results are just absolutely insane- yes, they are youtube videos and we have not seen unbiased forum posts but none the less- but none the less best results in my opinion. Trouble with Cuoto is long waiting list of almost two years. Lastly and very important, it is not ideal that you cannot consult with some of these doctors directly- Hassan and Rahal for example only consult through reps, pointless in my opinion because I am now pretty well versed in HT and would like to speak to a DR- this makes the decision increasingly difficult. I think you really have to take all factors into account which makes this challenging, while I was most impressed with some of Dieps results my opinion is he carries the most risk, my gut wants to take a chance on Rahal but the sound, safe and wise part of me tells me my best bet is with Hassan. I am basically putting this out there for any help and experience that might lead me to a decision, ready to move on from this! Thank you!!
  8. You've been given good advice, never base your decision on cost or location. Always go by results. There are some quality surgeons in the South like Dr. Arocha in Houston, Dr. Cooley in NC and Dr. Vories in SC.
  9. Totally on the same page with you. Maybe some of the more active doctors here such as @Michael Vories, MD or @Dr. Glenn Charles can help offer their opinion
  10. Check out @Deanomag he had a fantastic result by Dr. Reddy, there was also a guy here who has a YouTube channel called Mike Thurston, check him out on YouTube.
  11. Dr. Reddy is an excellent choice. Money comes and goes, but you only have one donor supply. Look up Mike Thurston on YouTube and life of steve. Both of them got excellent results. I would definitely recommend him.
  12. Great results, he already looks 10 years younger, funny how hair can do that to a person. Thanks for the presentation Dr. Vories, and keep up the great work.
  13. I too chose FUE because I would never want the linear scar. I also wanted a doctor who did most or all of the work. Dr. Vories for many years has extracted every graft, made every incision, and placed every graft. And...at $4-5 per graft, its a great price for his expertise. I’m obviously an advocate for Dr. Vories but his work speaks for itself. You’ve chosen fine doctors as well, I just wanted to throw my experience into your equation.
  14. I would expand your search outside of Turkey, you live in the US, so why don't you take a look at Dr. Vories, he is competitively priced, you could take a road trip and avoid the airport in this Coronavirus pandemic. You should also check out Dr. Arocha in Houston, he has some amazing results on this forum. Take a look at @Steeeve thread, he got completely transformed. I think Houston and Louisiana is pretty close.
  15. You should be looking for the best, not the cheapest. That said, check out Dr. Vories and Dr. Gabel.
  16. @Portugal25 thanks for the reply. Are you not happy with your Dr. Rahal work? I am not sure which poor Rahal results you refer to. Everything I've seen so far has been nothing less than astonishing. Then again, same can be said for Dr. Hasson. Not so blown away by Dr. Bisanga really, hairline-wise at least. I'll likely plan a trip to Canada and see both Drs. in person. I did do a Skype consult with Dr. Vories once, I have seen 3 or 4 really nice results from him and do like that he does it himself. OTOH if a clinic has well-trained technicians trained under the Dr. and following his technique preicseely this seems like a viable approach. If Dr. V had more results to look at I liked I'd likely go with him, especially since 5K grafts will be 1/3 or more less. Do you have any poor Dr. R results you can point to?
  17. HI Melvin, thanks. Yeah other than Asmed which had a golden period a few years back I would never consider Turkey. Dr. Vories is a nice choice as he does the work himself and has some nice results. Then again I don't see much volume to choose from (which I guess is one downside of doing it yourself). Dr. Rahal seems likewise to have astonishing FUE results. Since cost will be no consideration I think, this leaves Dr. Rahal and Dr. Hasson. As far as I can tell they are around same price ($8 first 2000, $6 for the next) and I'd have no idea how to choose between them. Again they both have a plethora of really mind blowing hairlines. It might come down to a face to face with each to see who I'm more comfortable with and who has the most confidence they can deliver results. Since I'm hoping for 4k-5k grafts it is not a small decision
  18. Dr. Vories is a great choice, and affordable in the US. That said, Dr. Hasson has had some Home runs for FUE. I think you should really consider Bisanga, I’d stay away from most Turkish surgeons, I’ve seen some unethical practices.
  19. I was going to go with Asmed a few years back, he said I'd have 'homerun' but last year sent in basically same pics he said I'm not a good candidate? Started reading threads here and seems perhaps his quality has slipped and possibly a lot? Or is that just my wrong take away from a couple of bad results? My other choice at the time was Dr. Vories here in the US. Cost aside, who would be the very best to look for. Probably 3V but I get good illusion of density with what I have. First goal would be lower hairline, fill in the temples, and temple restoration on the sides, good density, natural soft hairline. After that would be vertex/midscalp to support that. Assuming probably 5K grafts. Who are the rock-stars these days? Asmed still a possibility? Is Dr. Vories as good as he looks? Any new HT Docs in town (or out of it) who have excellent, consistent and natural results?
  20. lol Donor is never 100% safe. In fact, the FUE donor 'area' is not even the same as the donor zone established in the 1950s by Dr. Norman Orentreich. You are a NW5 likely to go NW6 so the meds would stop you ending up with an island of hair on top surrounded by bare scalp. Your donor looks a bit thin, maybe a bit overharvested but hard to tell due to the slightly fuzzy photo. I think you're probably best sticking with FUE so long as your expectations are in check. Maybe look at Mike Vories who is nearer the $5 a graft and does the work himself.
  21. Great to see a patient result holding up four years later. Still looks great and I see you've been experimenting with different styling options. Dr. Vories did a great job on this one.
  22. As Dr. Vories pointed out, there are laws put in place that requires surgeons to be the ones extracting the grafts during an FUE procedure - although it's my understanding that the top surgeons, particularly in North America, do this anyway. Extracting grafts via FUE requires a higher level of skill, as the grafts are being extracted "blindly" so to speak, as opposed to strip where they have a much clearer view of the angles of the hair, etc. I imagine from a business perspective, there's also a higher demand for FUE, and so I suppose the market plays a role in determining a higher price.
  23. Hey all, I've been a long time lurker and recently took the plunge and did a transplant. I thought I'd share the results here as I'm pretty satisfied. I originally researched Dr. Panine 3 or 4 years ago and did a consultation as I had started receding. I met with Stuart at the time who handled my case was was very knowledgeable in general. Originally I was impressed but could just not afford the operation and didn't want my parents paying for it. Then in 2019 in the middle of march I took the plunge after going back for a second consultation. Stuart was still working there and remembered my case, we talked for a while, I met the Dr again, then I booked it. I wasn't promised anything crazy, since Dr. Panine had seen my Dad's hairline, he filled in where it would fall, and extended my hairline to the perfect spot. The procedure itself took something like 12 hours. I was very nervous at first, but the office is nice and you get this million dollar view of the lake while they work on you. Then within an hour I was chatting with everyone and comfortable. Post procedure I did have really strong swelling, which you can see in one of the pictures. For the next 2 weeks it looks like I was in the ring with mike tyson, and I lost. I was fortunate enough to be able to work just over 4 weeks remote for work, otherwise it would be really difficult to hide swelling and scars. I don't know if that's unique to me but I would urge people to expect a longer recovery. At least that's true for a person like me with very light skin and hair. I also was not able to take pain pills as they made me throw up, so I stuck to tylenol and alleve. Truthfully the pain wasn't that bad, it was just uncomfortable. It took a couple of months for the grafts to start coming in so I wore my hair long in a very awkward style. I wore a hat whenever I could. I was pretty upfront with most people that knew and saw me about my transplant. Everyone was curious, some people even asked for number/address of Dr. Panine which I provided. At the moment I take 1mg Finasteride and the results are probably so subtle I don't notice it. But I do believe it's keeping more of my hair from falling as I don't see several strands when I comb my hair anymore. Overall if I had to do it again, I totally would. The results are worth it, and when you start to see the hairs coming in thicker you feel on top of the world. You get back the restoration of confidence that no amount of money can give you. I actually probably will go back and do another in a couple of years because one of my sides isn't as thick as the other. When I go back, I'll go to Dr. Panine because I trust him and his work. Also just to be clear I was not paid, nor given a discount for this review. Also no one at Dr. Panine's office asked me to do it, I offered as I am happy with my results and appreciate all of them. day of procedure, I got these pics from Stuart: recovery progress in june I took at home: recovery progress in june, I tried to keep same lighting, camera and time of day as my last one:
  24. I had both of my surgeries with Carolina Hair Surgery and Dr. Vories. I typically don't promote him directly very often in my responses to posts, but I wanted to respond directly to the previous post.... Dr. Vories only does FUE and he charges between $4-5 per graft depending on the number. I cut/pasted this from his website. More importantly....Dr. Vories actually extracts every graft himself and places every graft himself. I had no interest in having a lengthy linear scar from FUT. Do your homework and find the doctor that you feel most comfortable with. Best of luck. You can see my results at my website, www.MyFUEhairtransplant.com
