Advice for Hair Loss Sufferers Considering Hair Transplant Surgery

  1. This then 25 year old male presented to us first in 2013 and a 1569 grafts "Forelock" type pattern was used, to be conservative in case he balded a great deal later on. He had 3 medium-sized sessions in all and was seen 2 months ago, at which time the "after" photos were taken. He is 31 now. If his fringes on the sides remain high as he gets a little older, then we can be more aggressive about filling in his vertex/crown with more density later on. Mike Beehner, M.D.
  2. I haven't seen a whole lot of patient testimonials for Dr. Vories yet he seems like a good choice for FUE. He's located in the US, has fair pricing, does the entire procedure himself and seems knowledgeable. Does anyone have any experience with him?
  3. Looking for a couple good FUE doctors for African Americans doctors ? I know about diep but he depleted a lot of donors . Extremely high, and booked out for a year . Looking for a few more. Anyone know about Dr.Vories? Thanks
  4. This 54 year old man was treated for his hair loss with a collection of bizarre surgical procedures on the scalp. He has been very self-conscious of his appearance, and, although well educated, he has been restricted to menial jobs where he can wear a hat all the time. He was limited financially, but we worked out a plan that in a single session would at least make him feel better about his appearance. One of the photos shows the various zones we decided to transplant with the limited donor hair he had available. He received a total of 1340 grafts, of which 1040 were FU's (30% 1-hair; 60% 2-hairs; 10% 3 hairs.) and 300 were small round 1.3mm diameter MFU sites in the large front-central area delineated on the photo showing his plan. He hopes to return for a second session in the coming year. The "after" photos were taken almost exactly one year after his surgery. His initial off-shore surgery was performed 25 years ago. Mike Beehner, M.D.
  5. This 65 year old man over the past 4 years has had three hair transplant sessions. He has an advanced Norwood Class VI or a borderline Class VII pattern of hair loss with an enormous bald area in need of coverage. Overall, he has received 4801 FU grafts and 831 MFU grafts (4-5 hairs each) for a total of 12,067 hairs. Although it is impossible to totally fill in this size of a vertex (crown), I sought to plant "light coverage" through out that area, with the hairs directed in a natural "whorl" arrangement, spinning off of the centerpoint. He has enough strong hair up on top and toward the front, that he is able to style his hair so that many of them are brought backwards over a large part of the crown. The lighting of one of the photos is a little too bright to make out all the detail of the FU's placed back there. He uses a small amount of Toppik also in his styling regimen and says that, when he is done, it looks like a full head of hair from all angles. He plans one more session of around 1500 FU's, which we will mainly place in the crown area in back. Mike Beehner, M.D.
  6. Jesus what a horrifying procedure. I wonder if we will one day look back at what we do now and think, "We used to do that?!" Excellent, excellent work as always Dr. Beehner. Thank you for sharing an unusual and challenging case, you are a credit to the art.
  7. @Dr. Michael Beehner Thank you kindly for the education. Keep up the great work!
  8. This 35 year old male who lives a few hundred miles away happened to be driving through the Albany, NY area and stopped by the office on a day I wasn't there. He was delighted with his result, and my office manager managed to take the two photos I have attached here. He received 1800 grafts, 450 of which were DFU grafts and the rest were FU grafts. She also noted that his scar was difficult to even find by her (He had a strip harvest). He intends to have a second session for increased density.
  9. This 41 y/o male presented to Saratoga Hair Transplant Center 2 years ago, and had a single hair transplant session performed by Dr. Keimun Slaughter. The front 2/3rd of the scalp was filled in utilizing a total of 1583 grafts (4427 hairs). Dr. Slaughter has worked at our clinic now for three years and, after a one year unofficial fellowship with myself, was a good learner and possesses a true artistic sense with transplanting hair. I reduced my work load to half-time around 18 months ago and have no plans to retire from performing the surgery I love doing. I discussed this with Bill S at the Network and, in light of Dr. Slaughter’s goal to become “recommended” on this Network, he encouraged us to submit some of Dr. Slaughter’s results as these patients come back after a suitable amount of time passes after surgery. Dr. Slaughter is a facial-plastic surgeon and conducted his fellowship with Dr. Ed Williams in Albany, NY. He spent previous years in surgery residencies at Duke Univ. and the Univ. of North Carolina. Mike Beehner, M.D.
  10. What’s your agenda? Every post of Dr. Beehner you are trashing it, this actually a good result. You seem to have an axe to grind, it’s clear to see the hairline has single follicular unit grafts. Follicular Unit Transplantation uses multi-follicular unit grafts as well, hair follicles grow in 1’s, 2’s, 3’s and 4’s, this is natural. I’ve warned you before about conducting yourself on this forum and being respectful, I don’t want to be forced to suspend your posting privileges indefinitely.
  11. This can actually proove how it really looks like. 5600 grafts. All other result pictures have only been creating an extreme illusion with "good" and hiding pictures. I've been asking this all the time when I see result pictures. What am I seeing? That is why I appreciate such result pictures from honest doctors like this. I'd rather go to someone like Dr. Michael B. Than someone that is posting "fake" result pictures.
  12. Recent photo from above of this 68 y/o patient, plus rear vertex photos from before any HT's, 3 years later (light blue backdrop), and recent photo from same view (light green backdrop). Mike Beehner, M.D.
  13. This 25 y/o male has extensive baldness for his age and is now almost a Norwood VII. The only plan that I will use for someone this age and with this much hair loss is an oval frontal forelock pattern. The main goal is to frame the face and take away the tall "ski hill" of bald skin going up from the forehead which makes many men look older than they really are. It also has a devastating effect on the self image these men have of themselves. We performed his procedure at the Orlando Live Surgery Workshop of the ISHRS 2 years ago. We placed 1280 grafts, of which 980 were FU grafts and 300 were MFU grafts (multi-follicular) for a total of 3274 hairs. The patient returned to see us around 7 months after his procedure, which can be viewed in the "after" photos here. In the next couple of years he will most likely have a second procedure of about the same size. His hair will become more full appearing in the next 6-8 months also. I tell these patients that the best styling pattern is to take the hair back and to the right corner. Two prominent politicians who were transplanted who style their hair this way are Joe Biden and Jim Baker. Also, small "humps" were drawn in his plan, in which downward pointing hairs are placed to help blur the area between the forelock and the side fringes. The crown/vertex in the rear will only get larger as he ages, so there is a very limited amount of donor hair available. The most important thing of all is to make sure nothing is done that would make his appearance freakish in any way for the rest of his life. Mike Beehner, M.D.
  14. 1. Well, sorry that my language skills cause you so many trouble. So far no one had an issue, but maybe it was really the effect of my "c" not working properly yesterday. 2. You misquote me: I mentiond only Konior which I assumed no one has seen enough reports. 3. I doubt that there are 20 patient (!) reports of Konior FUE in here. Even then: Add 1 - 2 bad results and this would directly equal 5-10 % failure rate. That is much worse than the failure rate from most top clinics. Hence my conclusion: The statistics do not allow to make the assumptions you are taking. That is why math is better than stomache feel. 4. If you write it like that I have no issue. It is your opinion which I respect. You can like a BMW or a Mercedes more, that doesn't make one of the superior to the other. I do not like the hairlines of Hattingen, but I still recommend them regulary for strip in europe. 5. I never denied that it is peer revied. But I have revied many papers myself and I know reviewed doesn't mean "without failure" or "top level". Like mentione by Jean there is data available which suggest this data of Beehner is poor. Do not misunderstand me. I believe (!) that strip has higher yield in general. And I would be happy to know how big the difference is before I make a decision about my crown. But the where serious questions regarding the Beehner paper. This where serious questions and much more than just "it wasn't the magic dr. X who perform the surgery" as you suggest. No one (!) could answer these questions. If you can I would be pleased. Some questions again: - Why is the yield of strip so low in this paper ( 86 % and that is without considering transected grafts in the donor)? Is it realistic? - Was a motorized fully rotating punch (!) used and did this effect growth from FUE. For me this was one of the biggest issues. - Which holding solution was used and under which temperature were the grafts kept - The author and the reviewer obviously do not understand the difference beween % and %-points. As the claim 24.6 % different but it is 29 % (24.6 % points). Are the further errors in math? - If the surgeon had almost no FUE experience (<80 prcoedures in 9 years) could this affect the survival rate? - ... many more ... By the way: There are many (!) clinics performing FUE and FUT who say yield is almost similar. We had this dicussion before. I think we actually are not that far apart in our opinions as it appears.
  15. For a total of $6210. I have two sets of post-ops at 13 months, one at a decent length, another buzzed down with a #3 so the scalp is more visible. Sorry for the poor pre-op photo (last pic shown). Added the 5 month pic to showcase the redness that was still very visible at the time, and to show the area of transplanted hair. https://imgur.com/a/Lql1c Btw, this was an updated to a previous thread I made where I left his name out of the discussion.
  16. Dr. Beehner, I admire your confidence and will to take on challenging cases. Clearly, it is not the norm of some doctors showcasing work online who tend to take mostly virgin scalps and show to the world the so called their own realistic dense marketed expectations. Based on some folks I know, some docs will send patients to other docs to do repairs because they can’t fix damage or want to get rid of a patient they may have did something causing a patient great harm thus possibly ruining a life. This is where a patient may not know the magnitude of the damage caused. Cobblestoning and ridging are uncommon no doubt, but some folks who go with some “top” docs apparently still face this. This can happen when surgery is possibly not ethically performed and with a poor surgical protocol and etc. I see how you were able to blend the damaged portion with placement of grafts to cameoflage the damage. Now the one thing some professionals mentioned to me was that resection/removal of such tissue is an option given to such patients. Some folks said grafting in and around heavily impacted scar tissue may hinder graft growth. From this result, it looks like you were able to attain graft growth and survival in and around the scar tissue. Thank you for sharing this. You definitely saved this patient from embarrassment. Embarrassment, ridicule, and comments by folks in person is not easy to swallow, it is quite painful. So painful, that you can question the damage daily and question life. I hope when a person becomes a doctor, they understand ethics actually are there for their patient, tell the truth, and are always honest. Being a doctor is a profession not a game. By your willingness to help fix and do repairs as well, clearly you understand your profession well. I do not think I deserve at all what I am facing one bit. As a war Veteran and Marine, I always wanted to be stress free and actually have my life back. It is doctors like you, that are treating and helping repair patients that give some hope to folks that there may be different ways out of a difficult situation a person is in. Thanks for sharing and showing that may be there are different ways to tackle repairs and see what different options could be. I really appreciate it. Thank You.
  17. Hi All, I just want to update how I’m doing after my transplants with Dr. Beehner. I had 4 transplants over about 5 years and my results are absolutely fantastic! First off I have to say Dr. Beehner and his staff are wonderful people. I felt like I was part of a family when I was there. They were all pleasant, polite and most importantly, extremely knowledgeable and competent. My hair looks great with a very natural hairline. My last transplant was to add hair to my temple areas. Well, it came out so well that I ended up being asked to model it at the hair transplant convention that took place in Boston. Surgeons from around the world examined my hairline with specific emphasis on my temple area. They were extremely impressed, as I still am! It’s been about 5 years since the last procedure and my hair is still looking great, with no shedding or loss of transplanted hair. I’ve been reading and researching data about plattelate rich plasma (PRP) and it’s use to help thicken existing hair and help to rejuvenate hair follicles that still exist but became dormant. I went back to Dr. Beehner to ask about this and I’ve now had two sessions with his partner, Dr. Slaughter. Four sessions are recommended, but I am already noticing my hair looks a bit thicker and I can see some new hair growth. Dr. Slaughter advised results start to become more noticeable around the third treatment, so I’m looking forward to the final results. I wholeheartedly recommend Drs. Beehner and Slaughter if you are looking for transplants or wish to explore PRP. They are a great team and my results were beyond my expectations.
  18. No doubt this is impressive a d challenging repair. Great job! Dr. Beehner, have you worked on any patient that had ridging and cobblestoning where a removal of the tissue was necessary? This is primarily due to tissue damage from excess trauma during dense packing. Primarily in the hairline area? Just wondering and trying to get an idea how successful such a surgery would be and will the scar heal well. If you have any cases like that, it would be great to see. Thanks for repairing this patient. It was a challenging case and very few docs take on challenges as they try to show “showcase” results with virgin scalps more and more. I really applaud you taking on such a case and helping this person.
  19. Thank you so much for your answer Dr. Beehner very educational and insightful.
  20. Wow great improvement Dr. Beehner, in your opinion why did scalp lifts, flaps and reductions cause so many repair patients?
  21. This 42 y/o man had had three sessions widely spaced over the past 9 years. Of the 4192 grafts he received, 3448 were FU grafts and 744 were MFU grafts. 10,740 hairs were added to his head from these grafts. His hair was of a very fine nature. Mike Beehner, M.D.
  22. This 29 y/o patient had a single surgical session last year with 1087 grafts, consisting of 867 FU's and 220 DFU grafts, for a total of 2629 hairs. Mike Beehner, M.D.
  23. Thanks for posting Dr.Beehner and the results seem great! It would be nice to know the graft breakdown for each case and total number of grafts transplanted. It would also be great to see some more angles of the hair transplant i.e the crown, sides and donor scar. Again, seems like a great result but with some clarity would seem even better.
  24. Some of you guys may remember Michael. We did his first case, and filmed and posted the entire event online, with his parents involved. And we did a second case several months ago. In brief, we took a kid who had very little hair, and no confidence, and gave him a mature hairline, and good coverage to the front of the crown. Once he started growing in, his parents, and Michael himself say that he got out of the basement, got a good paying IT job, got dates, then a fiance, and he just sent his wedding pics in. I've posted several videos of Michael....not because we changed his life, but rather to show that younger guys can benefit from HT IF done correctly, and often times if the parents help make the decision. Too often I see young men who have gotten a goofy low hairline that won't age well, and too little hair sprinkled over too much head. You younger...and older guys must plan to have this investment for decades..so plan for the future. We have another younger guy video coming soon. As always, for anyone, but particularly younger guys....do your research and do not rush into this. Educate yourself before your first consultation, and don't get sold something that sounds too good to be true. An HT may help your confidence, but only if done correctly and planning for the future! The video is: Dr. Lindsey McLean VA Recent video: his longer extended interview:
