  1. Hi Everyone! I want to thank you all for being such a great resource in my hair transplant journey. I used this site extensively to learn about hair transplants and I would like to share with you all my hair transplant experience thus far so people can benefit. My profile: Age: 27 Clinic: HDC Clinic in Cyprus Surgeon: Dr. Kyriakos Maras Date of Surgery: April 1, 2017 Type: FUE # of Grafts: 3200 I started my hair loss in my late teens, receding heavily at my temples. I wish I had done something much earlier to combat my hair loss as I have lost a lot of my hair in the front and top since then. I started shaving my head to a 2 the last few years after growing tired of a combover. How I found my clinic: I did a lot of research online and compiled a list of top clinics in North America and Europe. Then I contacted each clinic for an online consultation where I sent them pictures and videos of my hair. I found the best way to organize info I receive and to compare and narrow down the clinics to what suited me best was to create an excel spread sheet. I recorded many things which included the number of grafts they recommend, the expected hairline design, and price. After narrowing down a few clinics, I looked extensively at patient reviews on hair transplant forums to make sure people are getting great results. I found that Erdogan at ASMED produced wonderful results at a reasonable price, but had a long waitlist and wanted me to be on finasteride for at least 6 months. Several others like Bisanga and Feriduni also produced great results but was a little more expensive. HDC is a clinic that one of my friends had gone to about 6 months earlier than I did. He got good results from them and so did a lot of other people online. Their price was also a little lower than Bisanga and Feriduni. So after contacting them for a consultation, they made me feel comfortable with their level of service and I went ahead and set up a surgery. The transplant experience: The clinic made me feel very comfortable that I was in good hands the whole time. Dr. Maras and the techs that worked there were very experienced, professional, and courteous. I was picked up from the airport by a driver sent by the clinic and they provided free accommodations for up to 7 days. At HDC, Dr. Maras does the punching and excision and the techs do the extraction and placing of grafts. The techs have all been working there for a long time, so I felt very comfortable. The surgery itself took over the course of 2 days, about 4/5 hours each day. Like most people on here say, the most uncomfortable part was having to lie down in an uncomfortable position. There was no pain at all aside from the anesthesia injections. The clinic offers free accommodation for up to 7 days, which I took advantage of. Post surgery I went into the clinic everyday and got my hair washed by them and they made sure everything was going well. By the time I left Cyprus, the scabbing had already been washed off my head. Here is a picture with Dr. Maras 4 days post op. Swelling has gone down considerably by then. Vlog of my hair transplant journey: I feel the best way to share my experience with you all is through visuals rather than words, so I decided to make videos documenting my whole experience in a vlog format. I have just finished and uploaded my first two vlogs on youtube. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCrXSnH6jHAsX1EIgXECbIhQ/videos Vlog #1 shows my arrival to Cyprus and getting picked up at the airport. I also give a tour of the apartment that I lived in for a week. Vlog #2 shows the first day of surgery where Dr. Maras provided my consultation and designed my hairline. I am spending a lot of time to try to make these videos professional (first time video maker), and will upload a new vlog whenever it is done. I hope that people will find these videos documenting the whole process helpful. I will post in this thread whenever a new vlog is uploaded, but you can also subscribe to my channel to be notified. I really appreciate your support! Progress pictures: I have just hit 5 months and have already seen a lot of results. Here you can see a before after shot of the top and front of my hair. You can see that my hairline has been lowered by quite a bit. The hair is looking really great in pictures and even in sunlight. However, up close I am really hoping the front will gain more in density. I will continue to post more old pictures that I took after the surgery and update you guys with my progress here. Also I made an Instagram account where I upload my progress pictures, so be sure to support, follow me there, and check that out too! https://www.instagram.com/hairplanter/ Current hair loss regime: I am currently doing the big 3 regime. I started finasteride in January 2017 and luckily had no side effects. The Minoxidil I started 2 months after surgery and Nizoral I just started a week ago. Nizoral has caused a bit of shedding after I incorporated it into my regime. I'm planning on continuing for longer before I decide if want to keep using it or not. 1) 0.5mg Finasteride daily. 2) 5% Kirkland Branded Minoxidil Foam applied morning and night daily. 3) 2% Nizoral shampoo used once a week. Thank you so much for reading my post! I hope that you find my content helpful if you are considering or have had a hair transplant. Feel free to reach out with any comments and questions. I look forward to providing more content for the hair loss community! -Hairplanter Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCrXSnH6jHAsX1EIgXECbIhQ/videos Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/hairplanter/
  2. Hi All I have recently booked a hair transplant with Dr Kyriakos Maras of HDC in Cyprus. I am understandly nervous but also looking forward to possibly seeing an end to this terrible curse of thinning and balding hair I booked Dr Kyriakos Maras and HDC through reviews and reccomendations on this site and so I hope I am in good hands. So far I have been dealing with a gentleman named George who is their customer relations guy. He is very charming, efficient and has been a pleasure to deal with. At no point has he tried to upsell me anything or coerce me into any decisions which has been good. So far so good and great first impressions. SO I have booked for 3-4th July to have 3000 grafts done at HDC. I am staying from the Sunday before the proceedure (2nd July) to the Friday (7th July). I am staying in the accomadation provided free of charge by HDC and I'll let you guys know what thats like when I arrive. I have saved up to have this procedure done and so I really hope it is as good as the before and after pictures HDC display on their website and on here. I will keep a regular blog for you guys and any advice along the way from you will also be welcome. I am nervous as hell but here we go! I have uploaded some pics of my current hairline. All Best JF x
  3. Thanks for the replies feeling a little lost right now really appreciate the help Next time I color my hair I plan to take some new pictures and do the comb-through video thing and maybe I'll also go back to the local HT doctor here in South Florida and talk to him more specifically about the miniaturization and have him take a second look ? I'm pretty sure I'm needing atleast 3000 graphs with Erdogan it would definitely be atleast 5k US Doctors like Konior and Gabel are booked super busy I really wanted to get this done with in the next 6months and also there pricing is a bit over the top I think for me to get the density I'd like I might be looking at close to 25 to 30k crazy don't want to spent that much It really took me along time on the forums to finally settle on a doctor and I'm really struggling again now to settle on an comparable alternative to Erdogan Leaning towards Dr Kyriakos Maras HDC today good choice ? other suggestions please chime in ? I also emailed my pictures to Dr.Yaman , Dr.Karadeniz , The Hairline Clinic (HLC), Dr.Cinik anyone I'm missing ? Heres what Dr. Cinik's people had to say about Erdogan below Koray Erdogan is choosing his patients and is only accepting patients where he knows that they will have 100 % results, he is rejecting a lot of patients.as we are not as worried in our reputation as him but more for are patients satisfaction, we would do your transplant and are sure that you ll achieve great results. Ozlem Mentes Assistant of Dr.Cinik
  4. Dear Forum Members, As many of you know, we gather as much information as possible about a physician, their staff, technique and track record before they are even considered for recommendation on the Hair Transplant Network. Part of our review process involves garnering private input from physicians currently recommended by our community and feedback from patients and forum members. To learn more about this review process, click here. We would appreciate your input regarding the potential recommendation of Dr. Kyriakos Maras of HDC in Cyprus. At this time, Dr. Maras is only being considered for recommendation, not the Coalition. To see our standards for recommendation, click here Dr. Maras was previously considered and presented for potential recommendation back in 2012. However, due to concerns regarding photo quality and involvement with a clinic we had concerns about, we chose not to approve him for recommendation. However, after clarifying the issue regarding his involvement with another clinic/physician and seeing several additional examples of his results, I believe all of these issues have now been resolved. Dr. Maras performs state of the art FUT via strip excision and FUE exclusively and is the medical director and leading hair restoration physician at HDC in Cyprus. He performs exclusive hair transplant surgery and has the staff and experience to perform large sessions of ultra refined follicular unit hair transplantation exceeding 3000 grafts when appropriate for the patient. Dr. Maras uses only the most advanced, cutting edge hair restoration techniques and has received a number of glowing accolades online for presenting impressive looking results. To learn more about Dr. Maras, his technique, experience and to view previously posted examples of his results, visit the former Potential Recommendation of Dr. Kyriakos Maras forum topic. This includes several examples of results Dr. Maras has previously posted. Given Dr. Maras's experience and commitment to high quality FUT via strip excision and FUE, I believe that he should be reconsidered for recommendation. See our standards for recommendation. 5. Thanks for all your input guys. Would any of you happen to know how much Dr Reddy would charge for 1500 grafts? ive seen a site say he charges ?2 per hair but that's an odd way to charge and doesn't seem accurate. If Dr Reddy ask for more than i am willing to pay i have found another site that i think may be suitable but i cant find their page describing their surgeons which outs me off but the work looks positive and it already tells you the cost per graft. I would expect this site to cost me under ?5000. . - HDC - Hair Transplant, Restoration and Treatment Centre EDIT - I believe the top surgeon at the second location is - Dr. Kyriakos Maras
  6. Hi guys, I didn't really know where to put this thread since im new here, so feel free to move it if it's in the wrong section, anyways, here it goes. I'm a 24 year old male from Sweden who has decided to go for a Hairtransplant this summer. I sent a few emails to the recommended doctors and got answers from both Dr. Erdogan, as well as Dr. Bisanga. Erdogan suspected i needed somewhere between 4000-4200 grafts whereas Bisanga and Kyriakos Maras both recommended somwhere between 2600-3000 grafts (This is only from an online consultation though). So my question to you guys is, does anyone have any experince with the named surgeons, and can recommend them? Also, is there a reason Erdogan has a higher graft count than the other ones? I know I'm in good hands no matter which one i pick, but I just need that last final push from hearing a good experience to really go through with an operation. Oh and also, I should probably mention I have dark curly hair, that might be the decider. Thanks in advance! Sincerly Justincredible
  7. Hi Vpac, Dr Koray Erdogan is also an excellent surgeon, I have seen some of his work in person and it is very good. However if you made an enquiry in any other area besides a hair transplant and no-one got back to you within 9 days, would you still pursue that enquiry or would you entertain your choice as a consumer and go somewhere else. I know which option I would choose. If no-one can be bothered to get back to you for even an enquiry, then this should ring alarm bells in your head, what chance that someone will get back to you should the procedure not go as planned further down the line. Also I would like to personally converse with my surgeon rather than go through a translator. Again, imagine the difficulty in trying to express a later concern through a translator! Another doctor in Turkey you could try is Dr Kyriakos Maras, he is also recommended by this site or you could consider Dr. Bijan Feriduni in Belgium. There are others, why don't you try the 'Consult a Physician' link at the top of this page. For FUE in India, I can really only recommened Dr Bhatti having experienced the quality and international standards of his state of the art clinic. I have seen results from other FUE clinics in India(Ludhiana, Mumbai) and the quality is more suited to the locals who just want some hair rather than no hair. As for international quality, the standards, the procedure and the results are well below par. Something for you to think about. __________________________________________________ Dr Bhatti FUE Oct 2014 3305 grafts http://www.hairrestorationnetwork.com/eve/178931-my-fue-dr-tejinder-bhatti-oct-2014-a.html
  8. My name is Noah, 21 years of age, from Norway. Last year, December 4th. 2013, I had my very first transplant of 2000 grafts/3500 hairs. It was not a very successful one, alas. But, not a complete fail either. It's just very thin, and the angles of the implanted hair is not exactly good, but I think if I let it grow out, it will look much better. This time around I must choose the right surgeon/clinic to go to. I live in Europe, Norway, so the closer the better. But I am of course willing to travel longer distances. I have included a photo of a list of recommended hair transplant surgeons in Europe, taken from "hair restoration network". First one I contacted was Dr. Hakan Doganay. I asked about my age, and they said it was no problem. Which actually concerns me a bit. Should I be? This is what they responded with in their e-mail to me: E-MAIL 1: "Dear Noah,Thanks for interesting in having FUE surgery with Dr Hakan Doganay. Could you send us some pictures for evaluation? Our price is 2 euros per hair graft and 2.5 euros per beard graft and manual graft. The utilities, like hospital, food, transportation in Antalya and medicines necessary after the operation will be paid by us. We will pick you up from the airport and take to the hospital, where you will stay during the surgery. If you use credit card for the payment, we will charge extra %8 for the tax but if you bring cash there will be no tax charge." E-MAIL 2: "Hey Noah, Thanks for the pictures based on them you will need 2500 grafts but please be awarethat this is an estimate and the exact number will be determined when we see you in person. We only do FUE. Please feel free to ask any question. All the best," E-MAIL 3: "Hey Noah, We can arrange 24 or 30 Dec. You will be staying at the hospital. No, your age wont be problem but we highly recommend to use Rogain daily base to protect the existing hairs. Extraction will be done by nurses and implantation will be done by Dr Hakan and his technician. Dr Hakan especially implants the front line. All the best," I know he is recommended and all, but still... is he any good? Everyone claims to be the best, right? The second surgeon/clinic I contacted, was Dr. Kyriakos Maras. They said they will come back to me, after having a word with their head-surgeon. I also contacted Dr. Rahal. They seem very professional to me. And respond very amicably and professional. What do you think? Would you recommend me another surgeon/clinic/hospital, or? I sorta screwed up my first transplant, I don't want to go through that again, never again. So this time I must make sure to choose the very best. Thank you very much!
  9. Note added by administrator on 6/13/2013: Note: As of April, 2013, Dr. Kyriakos Maras has been approved for recommendation on the Hair Transplant Network based on his ability to perform state of the art hair transplant surgery with excellent results. To see how we recommend hair restoration physicians, click here. To see our standards for recommendation, click here." ----- Dear Forum Members, As many of you know, we gather as much information as possible about a physician, their staff, technique and track record before they are even considered for recommendation on the Hair Transplant Network. Part of our review process involves getting input from patients and the members of this forum community. Maras has over 3 years of experience performing exclusive hair transplantation and is the medical director and leading hair restoration physician at HDC in Cyprus. He specializes in both follicular unit hair transplantation (FUT) and follicular unit extraction (FUE) and operates on only one or two patients per day. Dr. Maras completed his discipline of General Practice at the Shechenov Moscow Medical Academy where he also specialized in Medical Training and Sports Medicine. Before HDC, Dr. Maras worked in both state and private hospitals in Cyprus and is an upstanding member of the Cyprus Medical association. Dr. Maras is also a member of the ESHRS (European Society of Hair Restoration Surgery) and is awaiting membership approval with the ISHRS (International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery). Dr. Maras and his dedicated staff averaging 5 years of experience have the ability to perform large, densely packed sessions of high quality follicular unit hair transplant surgery exceeding 3000 grafts when appropriate for the patient. Dr. Maras also has the ability to dense pack up to 50 to 60 follicular units per square centimeter (FU/cm2) and even more using single follicular units only in the crucial hairline areas as appropriate. Dr. Maras uses a single blade to harvest the donor strip in order to minimize follicular transection and employs the trichophytic closure technique using a double layer closure to minimize the appearance of scarring. Dr. Maras uses tiny 20 gauge needles (approximately 0.9mm) for most grafts and 21 gauge needles (approximately 0.8mm) for single follicular units in the recipient area to minimize trauma to the scalp and maximize dense packing when appropriate for the patient. All follicular units are meticulously cut using microscopic dissection and carefully placed into tiny recipient incisions using magnification by Dr. Maras' experienced medical technicians. Dr. Maras feels that using all follicular units creates the most natural looking result. Dr. Maras' typical FUE hair transplant procedure ranges between 2500 to 3000 grafts over a period of 2 or 3 days. Dr. Maras prefers using manual extraction tools over motorized devices and uses punch sizes as small as .75mm. He feels that FUE best suits patients that want to avoid linear scarring and want the ability to shave their head down to grade 0 without showing a scar. Dr. Maras asserts that FUE is ideal for patients with minor hair loss that require sessions up to 1200 grafts. He also believes that FUE can be a great adjunct to FUT/strip to provide more donor hair for those with extensive hair loss. Given Dr. Maras's experience and commitment to quality follicular unit hair transplantation, I believe that he should be considered for recommendation. See our standards for recommendation. 10. Hi FUE2014, Yes Dr Maras is recommended here Dr. Kyriakos Maras M.D Hair Transplant Surgeon in Nicosia, Cyprus Regards Alex

I will search the forum and find the PRP docs apart from Dr. Carlos Wesley and Dr. Hakan Doganay who use it, Somebody said in the forum that Dr. Kyriakos Maras doesnt believe in its effect and does not use it. PsychStudent; Related to BUSA' concerns: Was the treatment performed by technicians or doctors in your ex-clinic?
  12. I agree with Future and BUSA. I assume you are considering FUE, and if you decide to go to Turkey Dr. Koray Erdogan (ASMED MANUAL FUE) and Dr. Hakan Doganay (AHD CLİNİC) are both one of the best and recommended FUE doctors here. Dr. Kyriakos Maras’ HDC Clinic, but located in Cyprus (Greek part), is also a good option for you. He is also one of the best FUE surgeons. You can easily contact with Alex, who is a representative of him in the forum. I think there are not many choices in USA for FUE, mostly they do FUT or FUE for NW 1-2 hair loss. To the best of my understanding they provide both FUE and FUT operations for their patients, but I am still not sure about their selection criteria. Anyway, I have seen Dr. Rahal (LMC HT INSTITUTE) from Canada also providing FUE now. You can find many good FUE surgeons in Europa. Mostly located in Belgium, Dr. Bijan Feriduni (my favorite) also, Patrick Mwamba and Christian Bisanga provides high quality FUE. These are all recommended doctors. In UK, Dr. Raghu Reddy is the best in my opinion. You should also consider Dr. Bessam Farjo (Farjo Clinic)[/B], but not sure if they provide FUE as well. Top quality FUE star is Dr. Jose Lorenzo from Spain but I have just noticed he has not been a recommended doctor anymore; I do not know or understand the reasons for that. Anyway, you should also consider him. His students may offer lower pricing with the same quality of work, so ask them too. If you choose them or Lorenzo, you will have the privilege of implantation done by doctors using pen pushing. For all the others mentioned, implantations are done by technicians as well; extraction of FUE grafts sometimes is done by technicians sometimes by doctors. Good luck and all the best to you. I also recommend to do some research here: Hair Transplant Network - Find Hair Transplant Clinics and Doctors, do not forget all coalition and recommended docs. here have passed many quality tests.
  13. I've ended up with either Dr. Kyriakos Maras, Dr. Bisanga, Dr. Ferdiduni or Hasson & Wong (Dr. Jerry Wong). As of now, I am leaning towards Dr. Jerry Wong. I have taken Dr. Hakan Doganay off my list. Felt a bit uneasy about the whole thing. I might have another fut done. Thanks for helping me out, I appreciate it!
  14. Hello. I am considering having my second hair transplant at HDC clinc, with Dr. Kyriakos Maras. I have a few questions, and would be Grateful if you could be so kind and answer them for me. I can't afford to make another mistake - Dr. Maras speaks good English? . Does he design the hairline, punch the holes and implant himself? Is the staff english-speaking? - I am having repair from previous bad FUT surgery. My head looks like a doll's hair, just like straw. Is this the place to go, you think? I have searched the web, but can't say I've seen an abundance of posts from the clinic. Though they appear professional to me, especially through e-mail. - Did they pick you up at the airport and see to it that you got from destination to destination without a hitch? - Is there tax? How did you go about paying for the treatment? There aren't any hidden costs? They pay for the "hotel" and food? - Is there anything in particular I should be wary of? Many thanks! I appreciate it. By the way, how are you feeling now?
  15. I am now checking out HDC Hair Clinic in Cyprus. Anyone familiar with Dr. Kyriakos Maras? Any personal experiences? They seem very professional to me in their e-mails, and they are recommended as well. They recommended me a total of no more than 1500 grafts via FUE. I might need to extract about 1000 of the previously implanted grafts, in order to correct the bad angle of the hairs as well. I might also use neck/nape hair to rebuild temples and sideburns. Maybe some leg hair and some hair from my chest too. I am also awaiting reply from Hasson & Wong, Bernstein and a few more top hair transplant surgeons. Many thanks!
  16. I also went ahead and contacted Dr. Kyriakos Maras HDC Medical Trichology Centre Their prices are much steeper, but their replies are much more comforting. Both doctors are excellent, world-class, right? This is what they had to say: Dear Noah "Thank you for your enquiry , information and photos. I discussed your case with our lead surgeon Dr Maras. As I told you we need to be careful on planning a further procedure in order to put too much strain on your donor area. At your age it is almost impossible to predict how your hair loss will develop over the coming years and what may your needs be I having further treatments. So it is a good move that you are taking propecia, I hope this will help retain your existing hair long-term. In our opinion we can build on the existing shape of the hairline shape by adding some single hair grafts where needed to feather it out. There is not much to gain if we change the shape as can only be done by removing grafts. It is a possibility that after dong this the hairline could end up looking quite irregular as the removal of some grafts could damage some others and you will end up needing another touch up to sort it out. Please note that this is a possibility. Another reason in not changing the hairline by graft removal is the possibility of scaring in an area that is quite visible. This is the same reason that the grafts that were wrongly planted by the mad doctor above the temporal peaks should not be removed by FUE extraction, but it would be safer to resort to laser hair removal. The grafts seem to have taken well as are quite dark so 3-4 sessions of laser treatment should be sufficient if not to remove completely, to weaken the hair enough that is not visible anymore. We can try and use neck hair as requested for some parts of the hairline but this depends on how easy their extraction is. It is not our usual practice to use neck hair as it is outside the safe zone that we harvest grafts from. We would like to suggest that to correct the hairline and add density to the front top we would not like to exceed 1500 grafts, less if possible. This is a safe estimate for the area indicated in attached photo enclosed in red. The area marked in green is a potential area that appears thin but may not need immediate attention so we can economize on using up more grafts at this stage. If there is sufficient density for thickening the frontal area marked in red there may be no need for the time being in putting more density at the back as well as a dense front wil conceal any difference in density at the back. This cannot be confirmed before an actual examination of the area in person. The costs wil depend on final number or graft and will be based on following rates: €3.50 per FUE graft €4.00 micrograft removal/p item As I said we don’t recommend the removal of grafts in the specific area so if we discard this option to get you a cost the projected surgery fee wil be €5,250. The surgery takes place over 8 hours and we are likely to need one day to complete the procedure, but this is subject to the surgeon’s advise and may like to plan some extra time. Of course this wil depend on your final decision. Local anaesthesia is used throughout and while the procedure is carried out, you can watch television or listen to music. Regular comfort breaks are scheduled throughout the day, including a mid morning snack and lunch. The recovery period on average is between 7-10 days. The post-operative period for FUE is significantly quicker as there is no stitching. You can carry on with your normal activities after the procedure, with some limitations regarding physical activity for the first month. Comprehensive post-operative instructions will be given to you after surgery, and can also be found on our website. As far as I am aware there are weekly scheduled flights from Norway (Oslo & Bergen) to Cyprus. Accommodation is available in our guest apartment, situated directly opposite the clinic, and provided at no extra cost. Wi-Fi access is available at the accommodation and at the surgery room so you can stay connected at all times. The city centre is only 10 minutes away and the surrounding area has an array of food outlets, restaurants and supermarkets. We recommend that you stay with us at the clinic in Nicosia for a minimum of 4 nights depending on length of your procedure, so you should fly in the day before and leave two or three days after, but we can provide accommodating up to 7 nights, sometimes longer if required depending on the needs of the guest accommodation at the clinic. We provide comprehensive written instructions on aftercare and the products you will need for the immediate post op after care, free of charge. As far as availability is concerned, we have limited availability until the end of the year, mainly in December. I hope to have provided you with some useful information regarding the options for your procedure, the way our clinic works and have answered some of your questions. Please do not hesitate to ask as many questions as you want and any advise I can give as I have been working at the clinic for 7 years now and have encountered hundreds of clients with different needs and objectives. It may be useful to have a virtual discussion on Skype about our recommendations and answer any questions you may have. The surgery rooms of the clinic will be closed between 24 December 2014-7 January 2015 for refurbishment works. I look forward to your reply. Kind regards George George Georgiou International Patient Coordinator HDC Hair Transplant Clinic" What do you think? Dr. Hakan Doganay recommended me a total of 2500 grafts, but needed to see me in person first, in order to ascertain the amount needed. HDC-clinic recommended me a total of 1500 grafts. A more conservative approach, I guess. But what I want is fullness. No matter which of the two I choose, I am in good hands, right? I just don't know who to go for... Both are top-notch, right? But why such different answers. Thanks a lot!
  17. Looking great. Dr. Kyriakos Maras is a great talented FUE doctor. I heard he does all the manual extractions and incisions himself! Keep up the good work HDC clinic :-)
  18. Great picks James84, My recent Top FUE surgeons list would be:- Dr. Jose Lorenzo (Spain) Dr. Hakan Doganay (Turkey) Dr. Koray Erdogan (Turkey) Dr. Cristian Bisanga (Belgium) Dr. Patrick Mwamba (Belgium) Dr. Kyriakos Maras (Cyprus) EUROPE WINS :D:D:D:D
  19. Doug, I appreciate you taking the time to respond to my comments. This community is made up thousands of hair loss sufferers and dozens of active members. Thus, there will always be dissenting opinions of which we as publishers of this community may or may not agree with. Your opinion as a NeoGraft representative is certainly welcome and encouraged however, we do expect members to contribute constructively without agressively attacking other members. Members are free to express their genuine opinions on this forum. While members may not always explicitly use the word "in my opinion", in many cases, it's implied. Also, what agenda could anyone here have against NeoGraft, which is just one of many extraction devices which has it's own set of unique advantages and disadvantages? Most members here are patients and nobody benefits by making comments for or against an extraction device. You are not dealing with competitors on this forum, only members expressing their opinions about a particular device based on what they've seen and/or heard. While some opinions may be more educated than others, members are still entitled to their opinion. Frankly, the fact that most patient communities appear to have concerns about the NeoGraft hair transplant machine means that NeoGraft hasn't done a great job demonstrating the efficacy of their device. Since you claim certain statements are "agenda driven", I expect you to back that up with evidence. I don't recall Dr. Feller and/or Dr. Harris marketing their extraction tools as superior devices that neophyte physicians and inexperienced technicians can use more effectively than trained surgeons. By who's standards is the device "superior"? And if the NeoGraft is so much better than other extraction tools, why haven't more leading physicians adopted the device? I never said there is no difference between the devices. Where did I say that? What I said is that no device is perfect and each device comes with their own unique advantages and disadvantages. You tout the NeoGraft as superior to all other devices. In my opinion, the NeoGraft is just one of many devices with some unique advantages and disadvantages that physicians may choose to adopt and use within an FUE procedure. But many leading physicians are doing excellent FUE work with manual tools and other motorized devices. You seem to dismiss this. To me, this is "agenda driven". In my last post, I said "As a device, the NeoGraft hair transplant machine comes with a list of potential advantages and disadvantages like other tools/devices. Moreover, the success of the device depends largely on the experience and skill of the surgeon. This is true for every tool used for similar purposes. There are those who've mastered manual tools, the SAFE Scribe, the ARTAS, the motorized Feller Punch (etc.) and there are those who've mastered the NeoGraft. Like physicians, patients have their preference and opinions about varying extraction and implantation devices. But put any of these tools in inexperienced or novice hands and you're creating a recipe for potential disaster. " Then you said What exactly do you disagree with? Are you saying you truly think that anyone, even inexperienced surgeons/technicians can use the NeoGraft and perform quality FUE with minimal training? Are you saying that the NeoGraft is perfect and has no disadvantages? Are you saying that the skill and experience of the surgeon doesn't matter and that they MUST use the NeoGraft to obtain superior results? What exactly did I say above that you disagree with that makes me "have no idea" what I"m talking about? The above is really irrelevant in your argument with me because I never said the NeoGraft was an inferior device, only that it had it's limitations just like every other device. Yes, the SAFE Scribe and Feller punch have limitations too. But since you mentioned it - do you have a link showing the actual workshop and results of the "head to head" performance we can view for ourselves? Also, what were the variables? Was everyone working on the same patient? What does "outperform" mean? Are you referring to speed? This community is open to objective data. Thus, if you have it, I encourage you to share it with this forum. Sharing the results of the above study doesn't discredit other devices. So again, if you have a link to the ISHRS or elsewhere that shows the results of this study, please present it. I've spoken with a number of reputable surgeons who've tried the NeoGraft, some of who liked it and some of who did not. Several reputable physicians expressed several potential disadvantages. I suggest reading Dr. Bob Bernstein's review of the NeoGraft by visiting "NeoGraft Hair Transplant Machine for FUE". The article even cites some suggestions for improvement to the device, which should be seen as constructive criticism and not a detriment to the device or NeoGraft the company. In my last post, I said: "One thing these devices all have in common is that they are tools physicians/technicians use in follicular unit extraction (FUE) procedures. Whether or not one is truly and objectively better has yet to be determined since physicians all have their preference and have mastered various tools." Then you said: So do I take it by that statement that you agree with me? And if you haven't seen something similar to the above on this website then you haven't been reading it very thoroughly. The only real concerns I've ever had with NeoGraft include NeoGraft's failure to acknowledge its limitations (and thus, there will never be any room for improvement) and their aggressive marketing campaign that attempted to sell NeoGraft as a "procedure" and claim that new and inexperienced physicians using the NeoGraft could replace skilled and experienced surgeons and their staff. Assuming this workshop and performance results exist, one side by side comparison isn't sufficient to tout NeoGraft as a superior tool over ALL other FUE devices. Under certain conditions, I'm sure it does have certain advantages. By the way, were these extracted follicular units using both devices implanted into the patient(s)' scalp? If so, was there a follow up study on growth? Successfully selling your device to many physicians doesn't mean it's what's best for the patient. Frankly, it's the mass quantity NeoGrafts being sold to new and inexperienced surgeons/technicians that was cause for great concern. More on that later. Regardless, many leading FUE practitioners are producing outstanding results with tools other than the NeoGraft. I don't agree that the NeoGraft device is "best" for the patient. In my opinion, it's just one of many devices physicians may choose to adopt and master to help patients get the results they deserve. In my personal opinion however, the results I've seen from physicians using NeoGraft have been largely underwhelming. Dr. Mike Vories is one of the first I've seen using the NeoGraft that I've been impressed with, who was just recently approved for recommendation on the Hair Transplant Network. But some of the most impressive FUE practitioners in the field are still using manual tools like Dr. Jose Lorenzo, Dr. Christian Bisanga, Dr. Bijan Feriduni, Dr. Raghu Reddy, Dr. Kyriakos Maras, etc. That said, others using simpler motorized tools are also producing outstanding results. This includes Dr. Hakan Doganay, Dr. James Harris, Dr. Alan Feller and a whole list of others. I don't begrudge NeoGraft for innovating a device to help make FUE easier and more effective, in fact, I praise them for it. However, their aggressive marketing and initial misleading claims caused many physicians and educated patients concerns because we all know that the skill and experience of the physician and their staff are paramount to which tool they use. I have never "bashed" NeoGraft however, I have shared very legitimate concerns that many others share. I've already expressed my primary concerns above so there's no need to repeat them here. With due respect, you come across much more like an angry salesman who's trying to convince the world that their product is the best and only way to obtain optimal results. If you would actually acknowledge its limitations (in addition to its benefits) and recognize that it still takes a skilled and experience surgeon to effectively use the NeoGraft, we wouldn't be having this discussion. You may want to take note of Dr. Alan Bauman's comments regarding the NeoGraft who himself issues extreme caution. In the press release "Dr. Alan Bauman Issues Hair Transplant Alert: Beware when Choosing a NeoGraft FUE Surgeon", he says: "However, Bauman said he feels compelled to remind consumers that, as remarkable as NeoGraft is, it is still just a “tool” – and it is not a substitute for a qualified hair transplant surgeon and surgical team. Any type of hair transplant surgery still requires a properly trained surgeon and an experienced surgical team in order to deliver quality results, Bauman noted. 'How the harvested follicles (grafts) are handled by the surgical team and how they are artistically placed into the scalp by the surgeon still determines the naturalness, density and results from the procedure,' Bauman said. 'If the follicles are ‘mishandled’ by an inexperienced team of technicians or without appropriate magnification and instrumentation, graft survival may be impacted - thereby squandering precious donor hair follicles. Also, if the surgeon does not have an aesthetic sense and understand the subtle nuances of hairline design, the naturalness of the results can ultimately suffer. In the worst cases, these unnatural hairlines may require repair.' The number of NeoGraft hair transplant devices in North America has more than quadrupled since last year and now tops 40, according to the device’s distributor, NeoGraft Resource Group. This has already prompted warnings from consumer groups like the American Hair Loss Association (AHLA)." You can read Spencer Kobren's AHLA warning at "NeoGraft Hair Transplant Warning - Let the Buyer Beware" Moreover, Dr. Vories recently shared his thoughts about some of the claims NeoGraft has made: "Thanks for your input. I think it is admirable that you are learning as much as possible about the process before you proceed. However, I believe that far too much emphasis is placed on the term "NeoGraft." I do use a NeoGraft machine to assist me with extractions (I also have a CIT punch in case I need to perform manual extractions). Since I have joined this network of physicians, I have maintained that this machine is a surgical instrument and should be used only by physicians or physician extenders that are licensed in their state to perform the extraction phase of the procedure. This leads me to the question of where does the controversy exist? If it exists within the context of unlicensed technicians performing the procedure under "supervision" of physicians without training or experience in hair surgery, then I believe most people would agree that practice should be avoided. If the controversy exists within the context that the NeoGraft machine has some inherent flaw (such as risk of desiccation of grafts), then I would argue that when appropriately used, this risk is minimized and must be weighed against the risk of tethering of grafts when extracted by forceps.I hope this begins to answer your questions. Please never feel poorly about demanding transparency, it is the oxygen the whole field (not just hair surgery) requires. Mike Vories, MD" His thoughts on the NeoGraft can be found by visiting the discussion topic "Update on FUE Procedure". As you can see, many patients and physicians (including those who use the NeoGraft) have expressed concerns about NeoGraft's aggressive and misleading marketing of the device. All that aside, I do believe the NeoGraft device in the right hands can be a valuable tool - but not necessarily superior over all other devices. Doug, maybe as a NeoGraft sales rep, you aren't knowingly posting false or misleading information. However, if you are still claiming that the NeoGraft is flawless, superior over all other devices and can be used just as effectively by neophyte surgeons and inexperienced technicians, then I completely disagree with you. There is no such thing as a "Neograft procedure". What you've had is FUE with a surgeon (or technician) using the NeoGraft machine for extracting follicular units. The fact that you still tout NeoGraft as a procedure is just proof of the concerning claims your company makes. By the way, have you shared your FUE results on this community? If not, why not? I encourage you to stop playing the salesman (after all, nobody here is interested in buying the device) and start sharing your own personal experience and results. Try relating to hair loss sufferers instead of trying to convince them of unrealistic claims. Best Regards, Bill
