  3. Hi friends, i am Karthikeyan, age 30 from india, tamilnadu.i did my hair transplantation surgery on 25/12/2015 by dr.kapil dua and his team at ak clinics Bangalore(extended clinic name of kosmoderma skin and hair clinic). I would like to express my views about my hair transplantation surgery in this blog. After completion of one year post op,i am not happy with the result and noticed poor density.initially i met with dr.kapil dua thru Skype about my hair transplantation surgery. he suggested to go for 4000 hair follicular unit ,which means that around 2200 grafts to cover front hair line.on day of surgery and one year post op,i don't feel any discomfort. But result wise i am very disappointed. Herewith i attached before and after photo. I gained below 50% results.i lost my money, harvested hairs at back side, more than that l lost my one year priceless time.who will give all those things. I think, this bad result due to only 30-40% of work done by dr.kapil dua and remaining 70-60 % of work done by his team or technician. hair implants 100% done by technician.on the whole which yields poor result. I had seen my hair growth monthly wise.after completion of 7 th month,i met with dr.kapil dua on skype about hair transplantation growth. i expressed my views. he said that "your hair growth is good and you have full of hairs".i said that" density wise i am not happy".doctor said that"you have to wait for another 4or 5 months for better result.today it is 13 month,pl see the result. Thereafter, i don't want to contact with doctor. Actually hair transplantation is a good technique, but in the bad hands,my story will be the result. Dear Friends,do lot of research and decide doctor without considering ads. I am not recommended, dr.kapil dua for hair trasplation surgery based on my experience. i need your support. Finally, thanks for this network , opportunity to share my feelings and thought. Thanks and regards karthikeyan.

  8. A 36 years old female approached us with chief complaint of hair loss over scalp since 11 years in 2011. She noticed patchy hair loss on scalp right after first childbirth. It was associated with no other symptoms. The patient had taken multiple treatments outside but no relief. On examination, the scalp showed a big patch of hair loss over central scalp. The skin showed atrophy and wrinkling with shiny appearance. A provisional diagnosis of cicatricial alopecia was kept. A consultation was taken from the Dermatologist ( Dr. Aman Dua, my wife) who did biopsy to confirm the clinical diagnosis. It revealed cicatricial alopecia with possibility of lichen planopilaris. The patient was put on oral deflazacort, hydroxychloroquine, biotin, omega 3 fatty acids, topical steroids, tacrolimus and benzyl nicotinate, vitamin k, salicylic acid tincturefor 4 months. The patient showed some improvement in terms of no further hair loss and some areas also showed hair regrowth in the periphery. Then a second biopsy after 4 months to check the activity of the disease. It showed partially treated lichen planopilaris. She was given intralesional steroids in resistant areas with mild improvement in terms of vellus hair regrowth seen. After seeing that the disease had stabilized she started asking for a hair transplant. Then again, biopsy was done to study the activity of the disease which showed post inflammatory pigment alteration. This prompted us as well as the patient to think about hair transplant. The same treatment was continuedfor 5 more months, aim being disease inactivity before we jump to hair transplant. Five months later, the final biopsy showed dermal sclerosis with focal pigment incontinence and few terminal hair follicles. Then after the insistence of the patient and the inactivity of the disease, we decided to do a test patch of 100 grafts with FUE in 2012.It was planned with FUEtechnique as the patient did not want to undergo surgery with stitches. Picture before surgery Picture of 1st Post-Operative Trial FUE Hair Transplant Surgery for 100 Grafts She showed excellent results with seen approx. 80% re-growth in 6 months. Picture after 1st Trial FUE Hair Transplant Surgery Second time over we did 1000 grafts covering the most prominent area by FUE technique in 2013. Again the result was excellent and resulted in a robust regrowth in one year. Picture of 2nd Post-Operative FUE Hair Transplant Surgery for 1000 Grafts Picture after 2nd FUE Hair Transplant Surgery Again the result was excellent and satisfactory by patient. Encouraged by good result, 1 year later patient has come for full area coverage and need for more grafts. Fifteen hundred (1500 )grafts were given this time as donor did not seem to support more in 2014. Patient is very happy with the surgery and a lot satisfied. Picture of 3rd Post-Operative FUE Hair Transplant Surgery for 1500 Grafts Now, the patient had again come for a visit ( in 2015) and her picture is completely changed. She is very happy with result of 2600 grafts ( done over three sessions) and is ready to have more to increase the density on the back side. 9. Hello all. I'm in a spot of bother and sort of desperate after an unsuccessful FUE experience in Istanbul. The reason why I'm bothered is due to cultural expectations and my marital status (still unmarried and I'm 31). Little bit of background. I'm South Asian (currently in S. Asia) by origin, and went to Istanbul to get HT in May 2015. Over 17 months on, my HT did little/nothing. Instead of undergoing another HT (I can't afford to shell out 5-10k for HT from a reputed doc), I've decided on getting SMP. bWhile I'm aware of Caboki (and have used it too) and other concealers, I don't wish to sport a bald look during my wedding day. Things are a tad complicated as I'm undergoing an arranged marriage meaning I won't be able to use a concealer on my wedding day and then afford to wash it later at night. That also rules out the option of hair piece (I'm wearing one right now). I don't have any plans to visit the US anytime soon. Hence, I can't visit a clinic in NYC or LA. My questions are. 1. What sort of certification should I be looking at off prospective clinic? Is there a standard certificate? The reason why ask is I was quoted about 800 dollars by an Indian clinic (India's my closest option) but I don't wish to visit another run of the mill clinic and waste my money. 2. Can you sport a full hair? I have diffused hairloss, especially around the crown area. I'd much rather sport a lengthy hair instead of "shaved" look. Thing is, in my culture, "shaved" look = bald head. So SMP in itself will be deemed a failure. 3. What are reputable clinics in Asia? The farthest I can visit is Bangkok or a clinic in Thailand. I looked up SMP clinics in India and while Dr. Kapil Dua's clinic seems to offer SMP, it is a temporary one. I'm a guy under a severe stress and I feel extremely insecure due to hairloss despite me having a round face (I've been told that shaved look/buzz cut look does suit me). Please help me regain my confidence back.
  10. I haven't heard of Dr. Dua before but he obviously failed to deliver what you wanted. One failure? Ok stuff happens. Two from the same clinic? No way is it your fault. You have a right to be upset. I hope you get a full refund because you deserve it, and then some, since you've had two procedure's worth of donor hair wasted. Good luck.
  11. Finally I am back in India after a bad surgery by AK clinics in 2012. Nobody can even guess about my hair transplant because there is no result at all. Despite I am loosing my donor area at the same time. I have been going here and there more since I came because I cannot take any risk regarding my surgery this time. I have visited a clinic in Bombay, chennai and Chandigarh. I received an email from Dr. Kapil dua but I cannot bother myself replying to him. I have visited darling buds, Chandigarh as I have heard very good reviews about them. But honestly I have no idea what to do ? Please help me guys as I am more concerned this time.
  12. hi, how much did the total procedure cost and how much did dr. kapil charge per follicle? thanks
  13. My Hair transplant Decision I had been losing hair for a while and even though I could constantly see the hair on my towel, in my comb and even accumulating around the bathroom drain, I was ignoring the signs. My father too had suffered from bald patches, but I always thought that I would be safe from the same at least till the later parts of my life. However, when people started asking me about my hair loss, I knew that I had to take a decision to do something about and I knew that it had to be done fast. It was at this point of time that I decided that I needed to get a hair transplant. Now, before I actually went in for the transplant, I knew that my first step would be to find the best person to do it. Since I didn’t want to trust the internet too much, I chose to speak to two of my friends, who had gotten hair transplant surgery done in the recent past. Not only had they had hassle free procedures, but after about a year, their hair looked so natural. It was then that I was sure that I wanted to go to the same hair transplant surgeon. Consultation with Surgeon - Dr Kapil Dua I have to admit that the first time I reached AK Clinics, I was extremely nervous, because one, I was really not sure about what to expect and two, I was not sure whether I would have that level of comfort with the doctor. However, the moment I met with Dr. Kapil Dua, I knew that I was in safe hands. He took his time to explain the entire procedure to me and made sure that I had no doubts as such in my mind. As a matter of fact, he talked to me about some of the most commonly asked questions and explained the same to me in detail. He then went on to examine my head, so that he could give me a clear idea about how my procedure would be. Yet again, he took his time to look at my head, clearly defining the donor and recipient areas. An assistant was taking photographs, which I was told would be used on the day of the surgery. Dr Kapil spoke to me about how many grafts I would need and roughly how much time the entire procedure would take. He also gave me a good idea of how much the entire procedure would cost. Process Before surgery Once I had decided that I was going ahead with the hair transplant surgery at AK Clinics, I was given a detailed list of the things that I needed to do. The date for my surgery was fixed on 28 th February, 2015 and I was told that from the 10 th of the same month, I was asked to stay away from smoking and other nicotine products. I was also asked to avoid alcohol and every time I stepped out of the house, I was asked to keep my head covered, because I could not afford to get my scalp sunburnt. During this time period, I was also asked to massage my scalp with just regular coconut oil, as this would help the scalp feel rejuvenated and improve skin tone. It was also advised that I not get a haircut, because Dr. Dua would need to have my hair at normal length for the procedure. I was also given very specific instructions about the medications that I was taking on a regular basis. Because I was not supposed to eat or drink anything since the midnight of the day of the procedure, I was told that I had to skip certain medicines and the others I could have with a single sip of water. On Day of Surgery The day before the surgery, I received a call from the clinic and I was asked to come early and although I was asked to avoid coffee, I had been told that I could have a light breakfast. I had been asked to wash my hair really well and once I was at the clinic, an assistant checked to make sure that my scalp was clean. Once I was ‘prepped’, I was taken to the room where the procedure was supposed to take place. It was heartening to see that Dr. Kapil and his entire team walked in with warm smiles and that put me at ease immediately. Once again, Dr. Kapil explained the procedure to me and made sure that I understood what was going to happen. I had been told in advance that I would not be put under sedation, but an anaesthetic would be administered, which would ensure that I would not feel any discomfort. At this point of time, I also noticed that the photographs that had been taken during my consultation were displayed on a board nearby and using those, Dr. Kapil demarcated the donor and recipient areas first. After this, he administered the anaesthetic and given that he is so experienced, I hardly felt it. Within a few minutes, I knew that my scalp was numb, because I could not feel anything. Post this, Dr. Kapil and his team went to work, removing the hair follicles and then implanting them into the donor area. What was most interesting was that throughout the procedure, everyone was chatting with me, making me feel not only comfortable, but also unaware of what was happening on my head! Within a few hours, the entire procedure was done and I was asked to just sit back and relax for some time. I had already been asked to arrange for a ride home and about half an hour before I was to go home, a member of the staff came and reminded me to call my friend, who was supposed to drive me home. I had also been given an entire list of what to do and what not to do, in the days following the procedure. This included when and how to wash my hair, how to sleep and even when I could get my first haircut. I had been told that I would lose hair in the days to come, but this was something that was to be considered normal. Dr. Kapil told me that it would also be natural to have a little redness or itching, and he told me that I could use an ice pack to help the possible swelling reduce. I was asked to return to the clinic a few times in the months to come and each time I was happy to find out that the transplant was a success. Eleven months after surgery Close to a year after the surgery, I was asked to return to the clinic and once Dr. Kapil had examined me, he told me that things were going really well. I had gotten my first haircut, a little after two months and my hair had been growing out really well. Since I had been prescribed Minoxidil, I had been using it regularly and the effects of the same were very visible. It was clear the hair had grown in really well and what was most impressive was that the scars from the procedure were now well hidden under the thick hair. These days, I am living my life to the fullest – I work out, I swim, I even got my hair coloured and all of this has still left my hair looking normal and natural! Progress so far It has been over a year since I got my hair transplant, and I have to say I am super happy, because apart from the people in my immediate family and close circle of friends, no one knows that I got a hair transplant. The hair has grown back really well and it looks completely natural. Because Dr. Kapil took so much effort to ensure that the grafts were placed in tandem with the natural direction of my hair, the new hair has grown in the same way.
  14. Hi, I am 26 years old, went through a hair straightening procedure 6-7 years ago, have been losing hair at moderate pace since then. Baldness runs in my family as well. At norwood 2 stage with less density in frontal area, i went through a 1000 graft hair transplant at Bangalore, India by Dr. Venkat charmalaya. It was a futile effort, i ended up with lesser hair on front, maybe due to shock loss and no additional regrowth, have also been on finasteride by dr. reddy;s for 6 months, no visible improvement. I seek help in choosing a doctor in India/Thailand.(Preferably India), A doctor who could assure results this time, as another futile transplant would deplete my donor supply and time. I would be grateful for your inputs, as this forum is my only ray of hope now. Personally visited Dr. Tejinder Bhatti in Chandigarh and Dr. Kapil Dua in Ludhiana, while Dr.Kapil Dua gave me a lot of comfort and confidence, Dr. Bhatti's reviews seem better, also he has many visible success cases on this forum, i also liked his clinic's exclusivity to hair restoration. Have also went through posts of HT failures by both doctors on this forum, specially the one where Dr.bhatti did not do most of the surgery by himself, and the forum's have a lot of failed cases against doctor dua, While both of them are only "recommended" surgeon's here, Dr. Damkerng Pathomvanich in Thailand is "coalition surgeon", would going to him create a huge difference, or either of these two mentioned doctors equally good ? I am aware that while harvesting and design is done by the surgeon himself, while planting is done by the helpers, is this true always ? Also, i need guidance in how to go about the surgery with high success chances this time, without feeling cheated like in the first case, please help me choose a surgeon. Regards, Hairhoho

  16. I probably prefer Dr. Path out of the ones that you have mentioned most. I do not know about Dr. Dua. I really don't know that there is much difference in a Coalition doc and a recommended doc. Over the years, it seems that praise and results come in waves with different docs. I don't know if it is because of visibility or if it is because of tech changes. Best thing to do is to continue doing your research like you are now and then make a decision.

  18. 20. wix, Aside from Dr. Radha, we recommend the following hair transplant surgeons in India that perform strip surgery. Dr. Kapil Dua Dr. Pathuri Madhu Dr. Suneet Soni
  21. Yes I contacted Dr. Kapil Dua and he was kind enough to offer me a correction surgery for a nominal amount of INR 25K. However, I was not very comfortable to get it re-done from the same place.
  22. I'll be honest, this is confusing. Because this could go one of two ways. Either he is saying that 4000 follicular units equals 2000 mini grafts or he is for whatever reason referring to follicular units as hairs in which case the graft he is referring to is an actual follicular unit. That's the only thing that makes sense. Frankly, it sounds like the sales person is a bit confused. Either that or there some kind of misinterpretation somewhere. Dr. Dua is recommended by this community and is doing hi quality follicular unit grafting. But in terms of terminology, somebody is in explaining this to you correctly. What you need to find out is how many follicular units you will be getting. Then if you multiply that number by 2.2, that is the average number of hairs you will most likely how transplanted. Obviously that is an average it is not exact. Each follicular unit could be anywhere from 1 to 4 hairs. They are called follicular units because each unit is a hair grouping between 1 to 4 Harris as they occur naturally in the scalp. When you view the hair and your scalp under significant magnification you will see that hairs don't grow individually, they grow in groups. There is a good amount of space between each follicular unit which is why follicular units are typically extracted together rather than broken apart. Splitting a follicular unit is possible but it is very delicate work because you want to be careful not to damage or transect the follicles Honestly, I would like to know who is telling you that 4000 follicular units equals 2000 grafts because I would like to contact the clinic and obtain more information. This does appear to be confusing and it is important that physicians we recommend are using correct terminology. Best wishes, Bill
  23. hi thank you guys for your excellent replies... well I have been in talks with ak clinic delhi and the surgeon is dr kapil dua. I have not talked to the doctor but I am being assigned to a salesperson who represent the clinic. I had send the pics of my scalp to this person who has forwarded this to dr. kapil dua and he said the dr said I would need around 4000FUs (FUE METHOD) and have quoted for the same. Then he added that 4000FUs = 2000 grafts. And that has been a matter of concern for me whether I am being taken for a ride here...
  24. Hello Panther, My brother and I got two hair transplants each from Dr. Radha. The first hair transplant, I received 3,700 grafts in the front half and on the second hair transplant, I received 2,400 grafts on the crown area. I also did not take medication/minox, since I wanted to see the real results of the transplant and since Dr. Radha said I did not need it. I am happy I received my hair transplant from Dr. Radha, but my hair still does look very thin. I think I received like 43 grafts/cm in the front and like 30 grafts/cm on the crown. It still looks very thin and I have to get another transplant. I got my first transplant in January 2014 and my second one in January 2015, so it has been some time. The positive side is that my hair looks natural, but thin. I want to get an FUE and BHT treatment with Dr. Bhatti or possibly Dr. Dua. I also looked at Doctors in Turkey. I do not want to save $1,000 on a HT, if my results will be iffy. There two other FUE Doctors in Turkey, but they are more expensive. Dr. Bhatti is on the top of my list with Dr. Dua right behind. I don't know about Dr. Soni. Let me know on who you decide to go with. I want to schedule my HT for August. Good luck with the growth.
  25. Dr. Dua, I appreciate you continually posting examples of your results. This particular one however is confusing because the before photos show significant baldness and the results show what looks like a full head of hair, with only 1360 grafts. Since educated patients know that producing a full looking head of hair on such an extreme case of baldness is impossible with such a small number of grafts, I am concerned that the photos are not overly accurate. I suspect that there are still areas of boldness but are being very well covered with the patients longer hair combed over the bald areas. Either that, or if the patient is wearing some kind of concealer. Can you please explain this and then present some more accurate photos that show where the grafts replaced and what the result looks like without the hair combed over and/or concealer. Photos showing the scalp and mediately after surgery will help show where the grafts were placed. A video showing the hair being combed in multiple directions would also be a nice addition if you have or can take it. I look forward to your response. Bill
