  1. I first started noticing my hair loss around 18 or 19 years of age. It became worse and worse and it got to the point where I felt embarrassed around others. Being in my early 20’s and seeing other kids my age with nice hair made me feel insecure about my hair. I knew something had to be done before I went totally bald. Your 20’s and even 30’s are your golden years and I believe nice hair has a lot to do with making you feel better about yourself. I did extensive research and finally stumbled across Dr. Diep. His reviews and results were amazing and I knew he did amazing, quality work. So I scheduled a consultation and he went over exactly what rethought was needed, about 2800 grafts via FUE. My appt was about 10 months later because his expertise is that in demand. I went in for surgery and last thing I remember was coming home and taking a nap. I did not feel anything and him and his nurses were extremely professional and comforting. They fed me a nice lunch as well. The following few days there was some discomfort but taking pain medication and resting help. The recovery was about 10-14 days for me. I took 2 weeks off of work and just relaxed and recovered. I noticed the hairs start to come in around month 3-4. It became more and more noticeable thick around the 5th-6th month and started blending it perfectly. I am coming up on my 7th month and I absolutely love the results. No one has even noticed I had a hair transplant. My hair looks natural and thick again. This is how it should look at 23 years old! And it is still going to get denser and denser over the next 6 months+. My confidence is way better now and I enjoy showing my hair off. I never wear a hat anymore to hide my receding and thinning hairline. I would not even hesitate to go see Dr. Diep and get your hair back again. You become a new man with a nice head of hair. The feeling is amazing I cannot thank Dr. Diep enough.
  2. Hi guys just wondering what your thoughts are on my current norwood class? I'm not really sure to be honest, I've just recently started to notice my hairloss, specifically the hairline obviously I will attach photos below. I just had my consultation with Dr. Diep and estimated me for 1500 grafts FUE but I asked him if I could do 2000 to get a really nicely dense hairline if need be so I guess i will ask him to go max up to 2000 then. Let me know your thoughts/advice thanks so much this community is the best.
  3. Wow, looking great! Your hairline's shape came out looking a lot like mine with the widow's peak, except with the major difference that it looks low enough that once your density grows in, you're only a quick late-90's Backstreet-Boys highlighted-tips dye-job away from having hair just like Chris Hemsworth (pictured below in Star Trek), and that sounds like a home run to me any day! Dr. Diep's done a fantastic job, please keep us posted!
  4. Hello everyone. I have been meaning to make this thread but have honestly been both busy and lazy. I have been scouring this website for a few months now and have been checking out a lot of peoples progress and completed work. I am glad this exists and want to share my current experience with the community. I am 34 years old and had a FUE done in Las Gatos, California (near San Francisco) by Dr. John Diep on May 23rd, 2018 to the frontal 1/3rd of my head. I began noticing my hair loss slowly when I was 27 years old. I started receding slowly and then the crown started going fast. I used minoxidil from 2011 to 2013 but I kept losing hair but not as quickly as before. I got tired of it and stopped. I started randomly searching on youtube about hairloss solutions and disguises and that eventually lead me to toppik. I started using toppik to cover my crown and i was okay with it. Then when my hairline started disappearing, I would start adding toppik there. It was good for some time and then the hairloss was too drastic. I now started noticing people looking at my hairline when they were talking to me and I felt like they knew something was up. It looked clumpy instead of like real hair strands. So then I began buzzing my hair with a 2 guard and developed a light sprinkle technique to give the illusion that I had a full head of hair with the buzz cut. I eventually got tired of it because like all of you know, it became a daily worry with all of environmental elements and with people wanting to run their hands on the buzz cut. I also got tired of always wearing hats when I didn't have the toppik on my head. I then started doing some serious research for the last 4 years before I actually pulled the trigger. I was choosing between Dr. Lindsey (he is 45 minutes from me in Virginia), Dr. Feriduni ( in Belgium), Dr. Koray Erdogan (Turkey) and Dr. Diep. I ended up choosing Dr. Diep mainly because of his amazing fue hairlines and for that fact that he is in the US. I am not going to type a write up about the day of the procedure because its exactly like what most people have described in their Diep threads. I will say that everything went well and I was pretty much knocked out for 10 hours minus lunch. I was initially told that he would be able to get 2,500 grafts but he ended up extracting 2,381. He was going to do some temple work but since he didn't get the 2,500 grafts, he ended up not doing it. I didn't know this until after the procedure but that makes sense since I was pretty sedated. I also opted to get the A-cell done. I am currently at 6 months and am a bit nervous with the progress (I know this the time where everyone tends to get anxious according to the forums). I know I am a slow grower on the top of my head because I was the same way when I had a full head of hair. There is definitely significant improvement of my hair line, its actually quite dramatic. My only issue is that I don't see a lot of density and I see a lot of big spaces where grafts initially seemed to be placed. I am not going to freak out or anything until after 1 year. I have read on this forum that some people saw a lot of new growth at around 9 months and on. I know the hair also begins thickens up then so I'll just wait and see and post monthly progress pictures. Side note, I know I am going to need 1 or 2 more HTs for full coverage on the rest of my head. I am not on any medication other than daily biotin. I wanted to get yalls opinion on Propecia and your honest blunt opinions about my progress so far. Thanks a lot and I am excited to be a contributor to this forum and of course experience my progress and results with yall. Top 3 pictures are pre op Top 4 pictures are 2 hours post op 1 day post op after a cleaning at his office 3 days post op and my face is swollen 9 days post op with scabbing 10 days post op 12 days post op. 5. Hmm honestly you should text that exact picture you posted to Dr. Diep and ask what he thinks about it. He responds fast and will tell you if you need a steroid shot (if it's alopecia areata) to fix it or not. @Jiveturkey82
  6. Hello fellow forum users, here's a bit about my FUE journey and finding out something important that I did not find in my years of research prior to my first FUE. And that is, extraction punch size. A smaller punch size will help with the healing & scarring and may prevent shock loss. *Different doctors use different punches*. In 2017 I had 2700 FUE with Dr. Diep. He was an ok doctor, friendly, friendly staff, but he seems to have used a fairly large punch size, larger than what was required from my recent doctor. I was not impressed that as I was laying on the procedure chair almost falling asleep form the drugs, Dr. Diep mentioned (in a cheery joking fashion though) to move quickly as he had a concert to attend that night. Coming from out of country - Canada - that was disappointing knowing now he was confined to certain time restraints, where 2700 FUE is a big job. He was very quick with the extraction punch, I woke up for parts of it, and couldn't believe how fast someone could extract single hairs. At the time this was impressive, but now realize this may not be best practice. It seems a larger punch may enable faster extraction, but makes for more scarring and difficult healing. Dr. Diep's office also had poor follow up, as twice i had emailed sending in pictures to ask if healing looked ok or asking questions on ointment use on donor area and had no response for a while each time, so I called after a few days to a week of waiting then sure enough they would open my email and give a simple answer over the phone. I am also disappointed in having my procedure on a Saturday as Dr. Deip's office was closed on Sunday so my wife had to do my first donor area wash on Sunday. This was not ideal, but we went in Monday/Tuesday for cleaning at Dr. Diep's office. Cleaning was ok, but there was lots of pain due to how large of a procedure I had and extraction tool size. I had trouble sleeping for almost 3 weeks due to pain and the sensation in my donor area, it felt really uncomfortable and numb. I recently had 1500 FUE with another doctor, and it was quite a different experience, a smaller punch size overall, and a tiny punch size for single hairs above neck, much better healing process, almost no pain meds required during operation or days after, amazing follow up from the doctor and staff, more on that later). I got the pics down to size for easy viewing, but less detail is shown. You're welcome and sorry. Enjoy Pre-Op (2017 - Dr. Diep) Immediate PostOp (2017 - Dr. Diep) Notice extraction up to crown (some are hairs presumably susceptible to further thinning, so not ideal for transplant). Also, the extraction punch size can be seen from picture 3 is quite large. Day 1 (Dr - Diep) Day 6 (Dr. Diep) Day 10 (Dr. Diep) Day 15 (Dr. Diep) Day 33 (Dr. Diep) - Lots of what appears to be shock loss. Most of it temporary. Donor area still very red, was pretty embarrassing at work, tried to wear hat as much as possible. Terrible time Month 4 (Dr. Diep) Month 6 (Dr. Diep) - All turned out ok with this hair length. The sides show some thinning depending on how my hair is cut. The back held up much better. Month 12 - depending on hair length, thinning shows through on the side. Buzz cut is pre-op for 2nd procedure at different clinic. (Pre-Op for 2nd FUE) Overall I'm mostly ok with the results, the hairline looks pretty natural but I really dislike how large of an extraction punch was used, the scars show with a buzz cut, or if my hair is not quite combed the right way. I would recommend Dr. Diep if doing a smaller amount of grafts, and location is nice in Los Gatos. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Next procedure - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Since I did not want to go through this healing process again, I sought out another doctor. I really liked Dr. Konior's results and post-op day of procedure pics, however he was fully booked, I then spoke with the other doctor at his office, Dr. Nadimi. She was great, very knowledge and very thorough in our email's/skype coonsultation. Her reviews/results were great, so I booked in 7 months in advance. The procedure with Dr. Nadimi could honestly not have been any better, everything was great! She methodically extracted every hair by taking time to line up the punch each time (I was awake for most of procedure). Only meds I took were two valium before procedure, all pain was handled with local anaesthesia, and there was no pain during extraction/implanting (only the initial anaesthetic needles I could feel). For a couple days after I took ibuprofen just to prevent pain, but it was really good anyway and sleeping was great every night, no pain. Worst part of the whole things was sitting in a hotel confined to my room for the most part ha ha, watched lots of Netflix! I went to Dr. Nadimi's office everyday for a week after the surgery (I didn't have to, but since I was in town they requested I do so if i wanted, so I did ). They cleaned my donor for first 3 days, then I took over as it was healing great. They were super friendly and Dr. Nadimi stopped to see me each visit to see how it was healing. Here's the pics so far, everything is going well!.... (pre-op posted above as Month 12) Here's some more pics. Keep in mind, still see some scarring from first surgery, and hair is a bit thinner from already having a surgery. Enjoy. Post-Op (2018 - Dr. Nadimi) Day 2 (Dr. Nadimi) - my wife couldn't believe how small the extraction punches were Day 3 (Dr. Nadimi) - healing very well! Keep in mind there's some scarring and thinning from previous procedure. Day 8 (Dr. Nadimi) - things are going well! That's all I have for pics so far, I'm almost 2 weeks now, and everything is great!
  7. I've been following your threads and I know you did not have a good experience with your first HT. I know you were considering going to turkey but If i were to offer any advice i would stick to the just the top 2 FUE clinics on the entire world and thats with HnW or Dr. Diep.
  8. Hello everyone, I have my scheduled Dr. Diep FUE appointment in 1 week. I Was told to stop taking biotin 7 days prior to procedure and 3 days after the surgery. Any idea why this is the case? However, I'm still allowed to take my Finasteride 1 mg as normal
  9. Wow just saw your thread. Great write-up, don’t be concerned about the crusts that’s normal I had them. I do see the small bald patch. Doesn’t look like you had grafts taken there. Could be a minor case of alopecia areata. If It gets worse contact Dr. Diep, he can give you a steroid injection that will help. Please consider creating a patient website, it’s a free way to blog your progress. https://www.hairtransplantnetwork.com/blog/
  10. Hi guys, excited and nervous to have my FUE procedure with Dr. Diep in about 3 weeks. I am estimated about 1500-2000 grafts just to lower my hairline. I just had a question if anyone has had any experience or knowledge about shaving the entire head prior to procedure versus shaving just the donor areas prior to procedure and leaving the hair on top long to hide any observation of a transplant being done. Is there any benefit to shaving the entire head prior to the procedure? For example would it be easier to clean and manage the recipient area post op for better results due to not having to maintain the native hair as much? Or is there a benefit that implanting into the recipient area with a fully shaved head? Or is it okay to just shave the donor areas and leave the top long like some people do?
  11. Hello all I am currently 10 days post op FUE with Dr. Diep 2049 grafts. I was looking for any tips on products that would help promote better healing or overall scalp health of the donor area after FUE surgery. I have heard things like aloe vera or vitamin e oil people use after they shower to help with drying/flaking/ithcing. Honestly im not really experiencing any of these as my donor is feeling really good post op FUE 10 days but i still want to be proactive and use anything that would help promote a healthier donor area post FUE. If you have any suggestions or specific products you would link me or recommend please comment and let me know!
  12. Day 11 post op: Picture taken in natural "harsh lighting" directly after hair wash (wet hair): Finally I’d say I’ve been able to get about 85% of the crusting and scabs out of the recipient area with gentle contact washes increasing pressure each day slightly. The large crust/scab in the middle of the hairline seems to have been the largest one which I’m not in any rush to force out and eventually it will soften up and fall out naturally form what I’ve heard. Furthermore, I now see how beautiful the designed hairline is that Dr. Diep did for me underneath all that crusting and scabbing and wow these are exciting times. My forehead looks so much more proportioned with the lower set hairline. I believe he told me we went from 7.75 cm hairline to eyebrow down to 6.25 cm which is considered his special medium tight hairline. Some would say this is aggressive but keep in mind I am only 25 so I think it looks good on me. As far as addressing my temples are concerned he said my temples are almost perpendicular and didn't need to be touched so what he did was called Temple angle closure in the hairline which i think looks fantastic.
  13. Dr. Diep in the Bay area ( Melvin Moderator's doctor and he could provide more details here) Dr R Konior in chicago is a known perfectionist but very hard to find an appointment within next 6 months Dr Yates is quite famous as well
  14. Hi all, I'm currently at Day 8 since my procedure with Dr. Diep. During my consultation, we agreed upon 1300 grafts total should fill in my temples. It ended up being 1400, which I thought some would be planted in the center hairline. But Diep said the hair there is too thick and would only cause shock loss. So I trust him. I also trusted him with a hairline design which he drew up pretty quick. (One side seems a little higher than the other, but we'll see once everything grows in.) Here are few pics from the journey so far: Day 0: Right Left Day 4: Right Left Today Day 8 (after my first contact wash): Right This big scabless, hairless, white strip makes me nervous on this one. I woke up like this before the wash. Left Hopefully this helpful for everyone. Reading your guys progress reports helped me a lot, so I plan to do the same.
  15. Glad to hear Dr. Diep is sticking by his patients. I knew he would he's a great guy tell him I said hi 🙂
  16. Just wanted to provide an update to this post, I spoke to Dr. Diep's office today and this was resolved in a satisfactory manner and I now have a date for the scar revision procedure. I am very appreciative of their quick response and helping to get this resolved.
  17. Just wanted to provide an update to this post, I spoke to Dr. Diep's office today and this was resolved in a satisfactory manner and I now have a date for the scar revision procedure. I am very appreciative of their quick response and helping to get this resolved.
  18. I did provide Dr. Diep with your information, so I believe he may be reaching out to you directly.
  19. I wanted Dr. Diep for the hairline, but if I have to do another FUE procedure to fill in behind, I may go with someone who uses a smaller punch.
  20. 21. Thanks Melvin. Also just to be clear, the reason for this post really didn't have to do with the scar itself. I've had it for 4+ years and never really been bothered by it. As I said in the initial post, I am generally happy with the result of the surgery, and I've even suggested Dr. Diep to a friend who asked. However, I always thought that it would not be a problem to have it filled in when the time came. The difficulty with scheduling the follow-up and my experience with his office is the reason for this post, not his work itself.
  22. I have reached out to Dr. Diep, he will be responding shortly. Honestly, the scarring can be improved. Unfortunately, stretched scars do occur even with the best surgeons. Dr. Diep provides his patients with his personal number so you can text him. I’m a former patient myself and while, yes he’s extremely busy. He truly does care about his patients.
  23. I'm sorry to hear about your experience. Since Dr. Diep is a recommended surgeon, please private message me your name so I can reach out to Dr. Diep for a response and please authorize him to respond publicly. Our goal is to maintain an equal and fair environment for both patients and surgeons. Best wishes
  24. Thanks for continuing to post this. Unlike many, I didnt start doing heavy research until after and this thread has really helped me. I got my FUE by Dr. Diep (2,043 grafts) about 10 days ago. Also right to left. I was concerned because my donor area looks pulverized....like way more surface area than most other pictures I see of 3k+ grafts. My right side especially. It's actually very similar to yours. I love how your hairline is growing in, which is very encouraging to me. However, your right side still looks a bit sparse, which worries me because mine looks the same as yours did on day 1, post wash. I have 7 days until I have to go into the office and a client meeting on that day....so a bit concerned of the donor redness.... especially considering you couldn't cover it with dermatch...
