My Story

  1. Yea, we're pretty active on YouTube, I don't really put the name of my surgeon because I don't want to sound biased, but I definitely owe Dr. Diep a lot.
  2. Damn man, it's crazy that you were my inspiration for going to Dr. Diep, now it's been 5 years. Your hair looks better than ever. I'm definitely digging that hairstyle 🙌
  3. When I had Dr. Diep do my FUT I had to have my local Dr. remove the stitches because I live in New Mexico. It was 14 days before I had all the blood clotting cleaned out, and he could do it. My scar is very thin and not easy to see. 98% of my shock loss grew back in. My question is, how many days passed before you had the stitches removed..? I'm no Dr., but if they were removed too soon, could that have caused the scar to widen..?
  4. Hey y'all, I just want to post some pictures of my progress for my 2nd procedure using the strip method done yesterday June 28th. The forums here were a great source of information for me taking the dive in the first place, so I'm just looking to give back a little. I've always had a high widow's peak, but never worried about hair loss because no one in my immediate family has any real hair loss. Around 18-19 I stopped liking the way my hair looked in pictures and realized it might be a problem. Looking back now at photos 8-10 years ago, it doesn't seem like my natural hairline has changed too much since then. (About 2 years back, I got my first procedure with a completely different doctor and was unhappy with the results I received. I'm not here to bash him. I can't remember exactly how many grafts I had back then, but it couldn't have been more than 500 or so. The doctor was very conservative with what he wanted to do even though I requested more. Also, I was unaware of the need to wear a hat/cover up when in the sun for the 3-6 months following the procedure which may have contributed to some grafts not taking as I work outdoors in a sunny climate.) I'm 31 years old and paid $11.5k for this procedure of 2000 grafts using the strip method and an A-cell injection. Dr. Diep shaved a patch off the front of my head in preperation to thicken that area. I made an appointment about 11 months in advance and so far am very pleased with Dr. Diep, his staff and the hairline he created. Anywho, I'll try to update as much as I can. Sure don't have whole lot else to do for the next couple weeks except pop these pills and wait for my swollen head to return to normal size.
  5. I sent you a PM. I know Dr. Diep, is extremely busy, but he should be able to see you sooner than that.
  6. That's a solid list. I suggest going on our surgeon review/patient review section for some patient results. My personal surgeon was Dr. Diep you can see my results on my hair transplant journey video.
  7. By "manual," Dr. Diep means handheld. As in, non-robotic. He uses a motorized punch device with foot pedal control similar to a dentist's drill or Devroye's WAW. I think he rigged it up himself or had someone build it for him.
  8. Hello everyone, thanks for the feedback and discussion but my goal wasn't to have a negative conversation about Dr. Diep as a Hair Transplant physician. Clearly he is a good doctor who is consistently producing good results otherwise he wouldn't be recommended on this forum nor would I have gone to him. As I stated previously, I would recommend him even after the results. Unfortunately we are a part of the percentage of people who sometimes don't get the result they expected but that doesn't change the fact that I was/am secure with the decision of going to Dr. Diep. With that being said, I still stand by my previous opinions about both of the procedures. I will pm Melvin and talk to him about the situation and we will go from there.
  9. i respectfully disagree with this. now i’m not saying Dr. Diep doesn’t put out great work or isn’t a good med student/doctor. i’ve seen a ton of his good and not so good work. but your statement is like saying a lawyer from a lesser known/ranked law school can stack up and go head to head with a lawyer from harvard just because the graduates. schools and grades do matter to a degree. would you rather trust a top doctor who went to school at johns hopkins or a community college?
  10. He was pre-med at UCLA and did his residency at UC Davis I believe. Where you graduate or go to school has no bearing on your surgical skill. Guys, These inflammatory remarks are ridiculous. I’ve been in contact with Dr. Diep, he will be commenting and reaching out to this patient. There are countless examples of his work myself included. Unfortunately, like I said not every result will be a success and I’ve been around long enough to say every surgeon has had lackluster results. How a surgeon handles these cases is the sign of a great surgeon and I believe Dr. Diep is an excellent surgeon.
  11. I don’t know much about the medical field as I am not a doctor but Dr Lindsey is a plastic surgeon with a FACS board certification that trained under dr feller. Dr. Diep is a graduate from some Caribbean medical school that trained under dr rassman at nu hair clinic. Does that give any insight? You tell me btw r u Indian? U said you were consulting with eugenix correct? I’d be curious to see what they recommend
  12. @FrontalHT12 please pm me and I will reach out to Dr. Diep to comment on your case. He’s a good guy and I know he stands by his work. Unfortunately, not every case will be a home run. That said, I agree with your sentiments and feelings of the results.
  13. in my opinion that is terrible planning for your father by Dr. Diep. - extensive hairloss - patchy donor - hairline is wayyyy too aggressive for his age, meaning more grafts needed to look even “decent” - rebuilding of the temple points should be last on the list for this patient
  14. Here are my father's results. I will be posting the pictures we sent to Dr. Diep's office, my father's pre-op pics, and his post-op pics. He received more than 2600 grafts places in his frontal 1/3rd via FUT. I was hoping that my father got a result similar to SWdan's since they are similar in age (62y/o) and had almost the same amount grafts done by FUT One thing I will say I've noticed is that physicians who were surgeons before they became hair transplant docs definitely seem to suture the scalp skin more seamlessly after a FUT. My father still has an indentation along his suture line. I am just comparing this with all the work I've seen from Dr. Lindsey and his FUT suture lines. My father's scalp could be a 1 off for Diep and maybe Lindsey would create the same indentation, I don't know, but I am just stating what I've noticed. Not here to trash any physician but I just want to give honest feedback so other people have an idea of what they may be getting. (My father is a physician and I am a 4th year medical student, if that means anything to anyone.) This picture looks a lot better because its taken in very low light and he dyed the heck out of his hair and scalp here. Pictures of his scar about 2 weeks after the surgery. I think there was lot of shock loss around the scar which makes it look worse than it really was. The hair seemed to have grown back now but there are more noticeable indentations to the touch at the beginning and the end of the suture line above both left and right ears. I don't have pictures of the donor area right now but you can't notice anything unusual visually so its safe to say the all the hair grew back. Also from the last time I saw my father, it didn't seem like the scar was wide, so that's a positive, but I'll have to check again when I see him next.
  15. I will be posting some pics of my father on this thread to show you guys what I am talking about. I am following quiet a few Erdogan patients that had surgery in 2018 and 2019 to see how their results turn out. Like you said, I've seen a good amount of poor results by his clinic recently and am a bit skeptical. I don't want to waist donor grafts as I'm sure all of us on this forum feel the same way. I've seen a lot of recent posts by Hair of Istanbul on IG and youtube. Any idea about them? A good amount, maybe a quarter of the small bottle. But I buy fibers off of ebay in bulk to save on the cost. Couldn't have said it better. I have the same feelings as you when it comes to how he runs the business. I will try and see what I can do about a refund. I think I will enlist Melvin's help because he seems to have a good relationship with Dr. Diep. Yes I agree and for a quarter of the price. That's my main issue, the price is so expensive and to get this result is a bit disheartening, but I am in this journey for the long haul. I knew what I was getting into when I started, thanks to this forum and other forums like this.
  16. BACKGROUND I'm in my late 20s and started receding around the age of 18. my scalp is very light compared to my forehead. my natural hairline sat right on the line where the pigmentation changed color. (Pictured) I stalked these forums regularly but never posted until recently. I'm Latino with African/Italian ancestry, my hair grows straight for about .5cm before it curls over. I'm located in NY Moving Forward I consulted online or in person with various doctors that were recommended on these forums the likes of (Arocha, Bloxham, Diep, Vories, and Frank). after many Q&As with each I felt most comfortable with Dr.Arocha in Texas. I flew to TX on Thursday met him and the staff that same day we went over my loss and future strategies as well as design. He recommended a higher hairline than the one I received based on the rule of thirds which I understood but felt it wasn't near my original hairline. we agreed on a lower line (pictured) The Big Day After medications and local numbing was administer a strip was taken from back of the head – 3140 grafts were harvested. Dr. Arocha mentioned he was aiming for 40 grafts cm2 coverage and that my hair was straight at short length. He did the strip removal, stitching and incisions at recipient site. Technicians did the graft cutting and placement. The procedure was done on FRIDAY I was very pleased with the service. everyone from medical staff and administration were very welcoming and ensure I had an excellent operation. it was to such extent that Dr. Arocha came in on Saturday to review the post op and ensure things were okay. he even gave me a tour of the city in his personal car. he even had one staff member come in on Saturday - the same day as her son's birthday just in case some work was needed (thanks Michelle). On Sunday (Father’s Day) he called to check up on me. Again, I’m extremely pleased with the service. Has First week post op I had swelling which is normal which has gone down considerably between days 4-7. I have followed the post op instructions to the T. I have used the shampoo and bacitracin provided by the Doctor as per instructed no harsh touching and trickle water. I feel like the treatment and operation were world class and I’m inclined to use the doctor again Pictures posted include my original hairline, my baldness pattern, hairline design and post op results at day 5/6. Please contact for any questions I will maintain this thread with my progression. PLEASE FEEL FREE TO CONTACT WITH QUESTIONS
  17. Hello everyone, it's been exactly 15 months since my hair transplant with Dr. Diep. I think I have done all the growing that can happen. My thoughts on the HT is that it was a success in that I have a frame but it definitely isn't a home run nor is it one he would post on his youtube page. There is definitely a lack of density for the amount of grafts that were placed. I am pretty sure all the remaining hairs that were there in those areas before the transplant fell out but I also think that not all the grafts that were transplanted survived and grew. I would say maybe 70% grew especially in the hairline. I went for his medium tight hairline and its pretty clear in the pictures that they all didn't take. Also I would like to add that I have been losing a lot of hair the last few months. It feels like during every hair wash I am losing hundreds and hundreds of hairs. Very disheartening to see but I knew that would happen since I am not taking any medications. I am okay with that because I am taking other meds that might interfere with them so it is what it is at this point. I had a 12 and half month follow up with him and he said that another 1500 grafts to the area that he already did will give me the density I am looking for. He said he could probably do 2000 grafts and work backwards towards the mid scalp. I would definitely recommend Dr. Diep because he was pretty honest and at least gave me a hairline where I can add toppik to it and it will stay. With that being said, I am thinking about going to Eugenix in India to get a 5000 plus session done so I don't have to keep going through multiple highly priced transplants in the States. My plan is to harvest whatever I have left in the donor area and then go with beard grafts. After all that is done, I will probably do scalp micropigmentation for the entire head. This way I can cover up the FUE dots (in case I have the donor depleted look) and also add the look of density to the top the head. If you guys have any other questions or comments please feel free to post. Thanks for following my journey from my first post 9 months ago. Side by Side comparison of the hairline
  18. @FUEblonde1985 I was browsing Dr Diep's profile on HRN and saw this in his bio: "Dr. Diep feels that his FUE procedure can rival that of strip as long as follicular units are viable upon extraction. He developed his own FUE instrument called "The Diep Extractor", which he believes helps to minimize transection and damage to the follicles during the extraction process." (source) I'm curious if perhaps his FUE instrument for extraction is subpar to the techniques of other doctors. It certainly feels that way in terms of initial appearance, as others have said on this thread. If not for anything else, the 1mm punch is larger than you get from other doctors right? That said, his technique does specifically call out the minimization of transection as a benefit. And the results in the recipient area speak for themselves.
  19. I didn't opt for the A-Cell. Dr. Diep gave me an injection in each shoulder for swelling, no extra cost. I had swelling roll down my temples, but it really wasn't too bad. I took the pills they gave me for swelling also. Gone in 4 or 5 days.
  20. There’s a huge “black market FUE” problem in the hair restoration industry as a whole. Instagram is a tool that these clinics use. It’s not that American clinics have no presence. Dr. Diep, Dr. Konior, H&W are still very present. As our other doctors, but also a lot of doctors have star patients that simply don’t want to post because of privacy concerns. That’s another big issue. If you’re from the US you can’t just post without the patient’s consent. Black market FUE clinics don’t care, hell they steal pictures it’s the wild wild west. Another factor to consider, is the majority of guys going overseas are young where money is a huge deciding factor.
  21. Dr. Diep uses motorized, the reason why most felt that motorized was the best was because of Dr. Lorenzo, but I believe the mystique is beginning to die down, as top clinics reveal that they use motorized tools as well.
  22. I am having FUT with Dr. Diep in a few weeks and have been offered three options about which I will appreciate any feedback. These options are: 1. Injection of high dose corticosteroid to reduce swelling 2. ACell injection 3. Amniofill My hunch is that Amniofill is for FUE donor area and perhaps irrelaevant. I have gotten corticosteroid shots a number of times for poison oak and seasonal allergies. They were always effective and caused no problems. I am not sure about the ACell. I have an area of thinning that still produces long hair that light can shine through and I am thinking that he may suggest ACELL there in lieu of graft. Again, all comments are welcome.
  23. Hey all, I'm a 34 year old guy with fine blonde hair that has receded at the hairline and temples a decent amount. I've been perusing this site off and on for years now and have finally decided to pull the trigger on a procedure. I originally was scheduled to go to Belgium for a procedure, but do to the climate of the world these days, have elected to go a different route. I didn't make that decision with ease, as I've seen great surgeries coming out of Belgium, Turkey, and Spain. However, I live in the California Bay Area and have been following Dr John Diep's results closely, and have been impressed. I am of course nervous about the outcome of the procedure, but have been on the fence for far too long and feel like it's time to go for it. Dr Diep quoted me about 2500 grafts FUE. With all the research I've done, that was about what I was expecting. The fact that my hair is so fine makes me think that I'm going to need 2 surgeries for the density that I want, but so be it if it ends up looking the way that I want it to. I'm also concerned about the temples looking natural. That seems to be one of the more difficult things for surgeons and the techs to get right. Again though, I've seen some good ones come from Diep's office. While I've mostly seen positive things from Dr Dieps office, I've seen some negative posts on here from a few years back as well, both of which I believe were FUT. I actually called and am going in for a second consultation with Diep next week to ask questions about his techs, my hairline design, how big of a punch they will use, expected yield, etc. My HT is currently scheduled for Feb 18, so just over a month away. Would love to hear back from past Diep patients or anyone with fine lighter colored hair who's had FUE done to restore hairline and temples.
  24. I received an FUE treatment from Dr. Diep in mid-2018 when I was 30 years old. At the time I was about a Norwood 3/4. My hair loss was expected due to a family history of hair loss. I just didn't expect it to progress so quickly at the age of 26/27. My Time with Dr. Diep was never rushed, from the moment I arrived I felt taken care of and he listened to all of my concerns. We decided to go with the FUE of 2,500 grafts; the majority to be placed in the frontal area of the scalp. During the procedure he was able to get up to 3,200 grafts, a pleasant surprise! If you decide to go with Dr. Diep, you will be scheduled to arrive very early in the morning around 6AM or so. You will go over the surgery briefly and then be given a benzodiazepine to help with pre-surgery anxiety. Additionally, you will be given a drug named Versed, a sedative hypnotic that helps you remain still and calm throughout the surgery. Versed also has amnesia related effects that are quite common. Keep in mind the amnesia effects are present only during the time that the drug is active in your system. For me personally, it felt like I was only in surgery for 2 hours, however I was in surgery for approximately 10 hours or so. No pain was present and I was sent home with pain medication in case it became a problem. Post-surgery, you will have to be careful with after care and really pay mind to the sheet of paper spelling out all the things you should do. I personally did not see the new hair start growing in until around the 6 month mark. Scarring on the sides of my head were noticeable up to 8 months. I've recently shaved the sides of my head down to 4 mm and can no longer see any signs of scarring. All in all, I'm very pleased with the outcome of my hair and Dr. Diep truly is a master of creating a new hairline. I highly recommend him. At the very least, set up a consultation, there's nothing to lose.
  25. Had great results with MHTA and the entire process was flawless. Dr. Diep is probably the best in bay area. Highly recommended. Have attached before and after 1 year pics below.
