  1. Hope this is the right place for this. I wanted to share my experience with Dr. Diep at MHTA in Los Gatos, CA. I received FUE treatment from Dr. Diep a little over a year ago, and what a difference a year makes! I received between 2000 grafts to fill in your standard recession. My hairline’s always been a little high, so I brought it down a bit farther than it would have been naturally and added a slight widow’s peak for style. Dr. Diep did a great job making it all look full and natural. I decided the day of to do slightly more grafts than originally quoted for a fuller look. You should consider for yourself whether or not you want to do that before you go in. You could say I got swept up in the moment, but I haven’t regretted the extra cost at all. I’m not going to lie, recovery was tough. I’m very fair, so it took a while for the redness to go away. And you can see in the photos that it looked a little patchy when things started growing in, but that fixed itself over the course of the year. I was wearing hats for the first 6 months, and it took a full year to see all my results. But now that my full results are here, I couldn’t be happier. I feel much more confident and happy with how I look. It was a large investment, but to me it was worth it.
  2. Thx for the response. Any noticable difference in density between the 2 sides? I had similiar with dr. Diep (1700 grafts) so curious if one side seems thicker than the other...
  3. Congrats on your procedure John. Did Dr. Diep only extract on your back and right side (i.e., no extractions on left side of your head)?
  4. Just to clarify a few points, since this is referring to my head: 1. I had 1700 grafts, not 1300 2. I'm not necessarily unhappy with the removal of grafts from one side, just confused. Clinic says this is normal for procedures my size and makes extractions easier in future procedures. I'm awaiting a call from Dr. Diep sometime this week to discuss this in detail. If it grows in and looks fine, I won't care--but right now I'm a bit nervous about it since I can't really think of a good reason for doing it this way.
  5. Is there a way to change the title to "1700 grafts with Dr. Diep"? I was quoted 1300 but ultimately got 1683. Don't want the title to be misleading.
  6. Haha I bet you're loving that swipe life with your new mop! Better invite Dr. Diep to your wedding lol. I was going to hold off on dates for a few weeks but this girl matched and opened me on bumble so it wasn't really an option to delay cuz of the 24 hour limit thing. Feel like these apps would be awful for a NW4+. Whales and single moms only.
  7. Your result turned out well. Looks even better at 17 months. Congratulations. I also went to Dr. Diep and I am almost at 8 months but unfortunately, I look like you at 4 months. Still a nice improvement from where I started but I was hoping for more density. Check it out and tell me what you think.
  8. Recipient area looks nice and thick. Hoping you have a great result. I will be following your progress. I am almost 8 months out from getting 2,381 grafts done by Dr. Diep in the frontal 1/3rd. It is looking like I may need to get another one done in that area but I will need more done everywhere else since I am diffuse thinner. So hopefully you choosing H&W was the perfect decision.
  9. Yes. Here is a picture of my results 1 Year after my failed surgery. I had very little growth and a lot of what appeared to be holes/pitting in my scalp because the grafts were placed too deep. This is actually the results after two (2) failed surgeries by the same doctor. My third and final procedure was with Dr. Diep.
  10. 17 months post op w/ Dr. Diep. I do not wish to do another procedure. It does thicken up even after the 12 month mark.
  11. A lot of people love to say Dr. Diep destroys donor areas but in reality after say the first few weeks the holes really contract back to normal and there are really no signs of any visible scarring. I recently had a consultation with Dr. Diep on why he uses .9-1.0 mm punch sizes and his thorough explanation makes complete sense and leaves me no doubt in his skills, experience, and knowledge. In addition, with literally all of his patients videos where he shows the donor area it literally looks untouched....
  12. Appreciate the response Melvin. I definitely think hearing Dr. Diep's reasoning would help resolve this discussion. I've also reached out to the clinic via email with a link to this thread so hopefully he can chime in regarding the methodology.
  13. I can definitely reach out to Dr. Diep, so he can respond. In the meantime, let's show BLM some encouragement. Obviously, being a repair patient already is hard enough. Guys, at this point we understand some of you don't agree with the harvesting, it's been said over and over again. That's fine, everyone should voice their opinion. However, at this point we should also be saying things like "hope everything turns out well" "happy growing". Aside from the donor harvesting, the work looks clean and refined and based on Dr. Diep's, consistent results, I see no reason why BLM should have to worry especially a few weeks post-op.
  14. Guys, Instead of encouraging a member, you guys are causing him unnecessary stress. How can extracting 1,300 grafts be carelss donor management? Like seriously guys there’s clinics that extract 4,000-5,000 you’re claiming 1,300 is bad donor management. Look I understand extracting from one side is not the norm, but at this point you guys keep harping on it and making BLM worry when you guys should be wishing him the best. Dr. Diep, may not be everyone’s favorite surgeon and that’s fine. However, there’s no doubt in his skill I’m a walking testament and countless others on this board. My donor looked rough in the beginning too and now it looks way better. Let things heal and get to normal. Another patient that was repaired by Dr. Diep with life changing results. He wasn’t happy until 12 months, but by 12 months his hair was ridiculously good.
  15. Hi all, I recently reached out to ASMED for an evaluation, and am strongly considering Dr. Erdogan. My intention is to bring my hairline forward from the two peaks on either side where it has receded, as well as restore my temples. For what it’s worth, I’m 27. Do you think that their evaluation for 2500-3000 grafts is reasonable, based on the photo I’ve attached? Will the new hairs grow in and around the forelock I currently have? Will this amount of grafts offer a dense look? I understand that it helps that I am blonde and fair skinned. Also, are there any other doctors you would recommend in a similar price range to Erdogan? My preference is FUE. I will be in California this August, so have also considered Diep but am as yet unaware of his costs. Thanks - this is my first post but I’ve read a lot of threads here and am grateful for all the help, thoughts and input offered on the forums.
  16. His surgeon was also Dr. Diep. He had a previous FUT done about 7 years ago that yielded a low outcome. It wasn't done by a reputable HT surgeon and not much research was done before that transplant. Dr. Diep didn't really excise the old scar because he went lower than the first fut, just a fyi. Thank you. I am trying not to although I havn't noticed any new growth. I will post the 8th month update in 10 days.
  17. I agree 100% that FUE is not scarless. Though you can minimize visible scarring, that's key. The simplest route to achieve this is punch size. Keep in mind that if the doctor is using a 1 mm punch, the actual size of the punch depends on the thickness of the metal. Depending on the manufacturer, it can be 1.2 to 1.5 mm. In the wrong hands even 1000 grafts can destroy your donor area. I seen it many many times unfortunately. The problem we're dealing with here is donor management or lack of donor management. It's a technique used by very few North American doctors. I commend any Dr. willing to learn FUE- and as with anything in life they will only get better in time. The problem is at the last FUE conference, I only noted 3 doctors from North America… Dr. Rahal, Dr. Wong, Dr. Shapiro. That says something. It was at this conference where they talked about the stuff, share tips of the trade. Here's a quick explanation of donor management… Donor management - a strategy to maximize your donor area, both in the number of grafts you can safely harvest for transplantation and visually, allowing you to wear your hair short and get the most amount of grafts possible... Tactic #1: Using calculations, you are able to predict how many grafts you can safely harvest from the safe zone. Not only in one session but over multiple. Punch size is a factor here. Smaller punch means more grafts and less visible scarring Tactic #2: partial transection to avoid this kind of stuff-scarring, patchy, moth-eaten look. If it's a 3 hair, you will strategically harvest 2 and leave 1 hair behind. For it to work you need 8x magnification and .8 punch size and under. The magnification alone is 10k. So not many want to make the investment. Tactic #3: punch type, sharp, dull, etc. motorized vs. manual - each has its place, depending on your skin type. FUE experts are masters at each, and prior to each procedure actually test each. What they are looking for is the technique with the lowest transection and highest graft quality. Note: smaller is still better You also need a high level of skill to pull this off, why I am so against the robot. In the hands of an amateur hair transplant Dr. you can do more harm with FUE to a guys donor area than any other procedure. Bottom line, if you are using a 1 mm punch, the robot you're not practicing donor management. Donor management is a highly advanced strategy and means a massive investment both in staff and equipment. But it's also what separates the amateurs from the professionals. Please refer to this example photo… This is just a quick explanation… There's much more to it. But in the example I applied tactic #2, with just 12 single hairs. And you can notice a visible difference in the donor area. I do commend Dr. Diep. I'm seeing some good results from him. And I encourage him to continue learning the craft and to learn about and master donor management. It would be super helpful if he would jump in and let us know about his technique, punch size, tools of the trade. I always encourage an open and honest debate. That's what makes this forum great.
  18. As a woman, I was saddened and embarrassed about my extreme loss of hairs on the front sides and temple areas. Researched Dr. Diep, and had ad a hair restoration procedure with Dr. Diep last year (2017). The results have been amazing. He is a true expert at this procedure for men and women. I plan to go back to him in several months for a 2nd procedure cause I need a little more density. Dr. Diep is the Real Deal when it comes to this type of delicate work. He is skilled with all types of hair textures, natural placement of hairs and which transplant procedure is best for your particular situation, and what works best for a female or male patient. He and his staff are competent, professional and kind. Although I was nervous abt doing this procedure, Dr. diep's proven experience and expertise made me feel safe and hopeful about results. I look forward to my next round for the Grand Finale.
  19. In the end, I’m not trying to defend Dr. Diep, I’ve even told members to simply choose another surgeon if they don’t like a certain aspect. However, we can’t in good faith say that a member can not support further surgeries without any proof, especially if the only pictures we have are at 6 months. That’s all I’m saying. I have no problem with you guys saying you prefer one doctor over another for tool size etc. that’s fair.
  20. BINGO! I am seeing a pattern of Dr. Diep regarding donor management, and it's almost borderline an ethical concern. Think he has great results, but donor management is just as important as the result IMO.
  21. I agree. I have some very real concerns about Dr. Diep's donor area management. In my opinion, the damage I'm seeing is not acceptable. Plus some of his patients are in a lot of trouble should their hair loss progress. Even shaving at a number #1 donor looks okay. The money shot is when a guy shaves down after FUE. Here is an example of what I mean. Looks like The dots are from a 1 mm punch. 3000+ of those in your donor shot-forever. You really need to stick to .8 and below. Despite what they say, size does matter. Re: Dr. Bernstein. He's been around for a while and is more of a academic now. Plus he also supports ARTAS and is a shareholder I believe? I just can't support any Dr. who promotes the robot, after I've personally seen the damage it does to guys donor areas. I am open to debate with any Dr. who supports and offers ARTAS. But I doubt that will ever happen. The technology just isn't ready in my opinion. What's scary is that everybody in the industry seems to agree-yet some actively promote the robot, and privately say it's crap. Sad
  22. Which members? I don’t recall any that have verified donor damage. Looking at a post-op picture and having a poster make assumptions based on the picture is different than having verified donor damage. I’m fairly certain I could post a picture of how my donor looked after surgery without cleaning it and several posters would have said my donor was ruined even though it wasn’t. We can’t make these statements based on assumptions. I’m seeing a trend on this forum and not necessarily for Dr. Diep, but other doctors as well; someone will say one thing, than another person will add to that and all of the sudden it’s snowballed, the meanwhile causing serious damage to the doctors reputation. Unless someone has actually posted that their donor has been compromised, we can’t simply go by pictures or other’s assumptions. I provided three verifiable examples of members from this forum who’ve had multiple successful procedures with Dr. Diep.
  23. I’ve had three hair transplants and two with Dr. Diep, I’ve visited Dr. Gabel, Dr. Mohebi, Dr. Konoir, Dr. Umar and Dr. Wong all of them in person and none of them told me my donor was damaged after having three hair transplants mind you. In fact, I’ve been told I have at least another 1,000-1,500 grafts left which would put me around the 7,000 range. I understand you decided to withdraw Dr. Diep from your selection which is totally fine, but these statements simply aren’t true. I’ve heard every argument and counter argument in the book. I’m well aware that several posters claim 1mm punches damage surrounding follicular units. However, a smaller punch transects more follicular units. At the end of the day it is up to the skill of the surgeon. If the surgeon is careless they can damage the donor of a patient regardless of the punch size or tool. With that said, Dr. Rahal is a fine surgeon and I really have no problem with you saying hes better than diep if that’s how you feel, but making claims such as going with Diep compromises future procedures simply isn’t true. @jkm3 had two procedures with Dr. Diep close to 5,000 grafts @spyk777 had several procedures I believe three with Dr. Diep via FUE @E39 had two procedures with Dr. Diep around 4,000 grafts
  24. I feel the same way, honestly I don’t think I’d be where I’m at now if I was still bald. At the time when I barely had any hair left. I just didn’t want to be a cueball. Now I’m amazed at where I am. Granted I still use concealer to look 100%, but having this hair allows it to look 100% natural. I’m also eternally grateful to Dr. Diep, guys chamged my life. One poster mentioned surgeons only do it for the money, but come on, there’s no way Dr. Hasson doesn’t look at you and feel good about himself. You’re his masterpiece. It’s an accomplishment like a trophy. He’s spent the money you paid for your transplants long ago, but the satisfaction of his work will never go away.
  25. Yeah Legend, I agree--seems like a fairly shitty strategy. That being said, at this point it is what it is, and given that Dr. Diep is a world-class surgeon I imagine he has thought about this before and has reasons for his harvesting strategy.
