  1. Hey guys! So I just want to share my experience with this clinic, overall, experience was alright but the results have not been the best. Overall, the clinic at NYC's NuHart offices were clean, the staff friendly and extremely accomodating, the doctor himself seemed to be knowledgeable. Unfortunately, despite all these positive attributes from my visit, the results of my hair transplant speak for themselves. I felt the doctor erred on the side of conservatism when consulting with me (I'm 27 years old) but the grafts were far too few, and I even feel like I lost quite a lot of my natural hair through shock loss. Although, this may be MPB, but I have been on propecia for over a year (since beginning my first HT). The Pre, Post and current state is enclosed. I'm currently OMW to getting another transplant, an estimated 1200 (Although, I will speak to the doctor the day of my procedure to possibly get more grafts for added density) with Dr. Feller a week from today. Wish me luck!
  2. On June 14, 2012, I performed a hair transplant surgery using our newest technolgy, Robotic Assisted FUE! The ARTAS. The procedure was filmed in our office by NBC News and aired at 5:30 p.m. the same day. This Procedure was done on twins Alex and Austin. They are 19 years old, and they are both currently Freshmen at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. When Alex was 12 years old, he was diagnosed with brain cancer. The type of cancer was called Meduloblastoma which is a malignant form of cancer, located at the back of the brain by his Medulla Oblongata. In 2005 he had the brain tumor removed in surgery. Two weeks after he started 30 rounds of radiation therapy to the tumor site and daily chemotherapy. He first noticed the hair loss about 5-6 weeks into his radiation chemotherapy treatments and although he did get some hair growth, it never returned to its original state. It has bothered him ever since, but it has increasingly bothered him as he’s becoming a late teenager and going more into his 20s. As a young child he was always very outgoing and after the treatments and the hair loss he has become much more subdued, introverted, and quiet. I do not only see this as an opportunity to help a young man out but I was also impressed that Alex’s brother Austin wants to help his brother regain his confidence and self-esteem. I also have identical twin boys, so I can personally relate to having a medical problem with one of my twin boys. I did this case pro bono and I just wanted to help this family in any way that can. We were also able to get this case approved by ISHRS (Operation Restore Program) who assisted in their travel, food and lodging expenses. 3. I made an appointment for a consult with Dr. Charles in a few weeks. I'm looking for any women who had a transplant by him & can provide any feedback?!? Thanks
  4. This 25 year old patient came into my office and met with me after being to several other consultations. He was nervous but I calmed him down, told him the facts, what to expect and what not to in hair transplantation. After further research he later called our office and scheduled to have his surgery done. He had 1989 Follicular Unit Grafts transplanted in a single session to his frontal area. Patient was very happy with his result.
  5. So March 21st was my HT, 1693 to the crown (see my profile for before pics) and there has already been sigificant growth after 3 months, there also seems to be a bunch of little thin, clear hairs that hte camera doesnt really show, not sure if this is the start of new growth or what...cannot wait to see it when it starts to really fill in though! These next few months should be telling!
  6. Hello Everyone, You may have read on the forum recently about Dr. Glenn Charles performing a revolutionary hair transplant in order to restore hair to a brave young man who fought a successful battle against brain cancer. Using the new, hi-tech robotic assisted ARTAS Hair Restoration System, Dr. Charles harvested hair from Alex Ford's twin brother Austin and transplanted it into Alex's balding scalp. A truly impressive and uplifting story, perhaps even more so given the fact that Dr. Charles offered his services pro bono and the ISHRS covered many of the family's expenses. We have presented this story on our Hair Loss Q&A Blog, Revolutionary Hair Transplant (Donor Hair Taken From Twin) Restores Hair to Teenage Cancer Survivor: Dr. Glenn Charles. The twins have also created Hair Restoration Websites and you are encouraged to leave your comments and words of support. 7. This 44 year old patient had 3500 Follicular Unit Grafts transplanted in his frontal and vertex areas in two sessions. Pictures showing his before, immediate post-op, 6 months post-op and 6 months donor site scar. Again, these results are only after six months. Patient was very happy with his result.
  8. Consultation: May 1 2012 at 11:30am I met with Dr. Charles. I had a thread here about a month ago looking for a HT in FL and Dr. Charles was recommended. I drove 3 hours and met with him. The first time we met he was very nice, and gave me a lot of information. We met for over an hour. He showed me what he wanted to do, pointed out temparel recession which I had not noticed, and showed me his instruments and procedure photos. He recommenced 1800 to 2000 grafts for the hairline and temperal areas. I had thinning in my crown area which I've had for 6 years now. Dr. Charles said he would do the crown as well, but was more concerned with the hairline as the priority. 1000 grafts were recommened for the crown. Procedure: May 10 2012 at 9:30am I had my procedure. I took my father with me so I would have someone to drive me home. First pictures were taken. We both met with Dr. Charles and he reviewed with me what we had discussed on May 1. He then gave me my first antibiotic and 3 Valium pills to clam me down. He had offered to inject me and completely sedate me, but I felt I didn't need it. He then injected my hairline and the back of my head with anesthetic. They then offered me a movie list and wanted me to pick two movies to watch. At the time the Discovery channel was on with a marathon of Penn and Teller Tell A Lie, so I watched that the entire time. Dr. Charles and his staff were listening to it and commenting on it with me. It was nice to be talked to and we joked around a bit as there are some pretty crazy things on that show, like eating roadkill and swearing to relieve pain, which I was encouraged to do. There was no pain in this procedure I can assure you that, and with the Valium in me I had no thoughts in my mind other than the TV show. We broke for lunch around 1:00pm they gave me a menu from a nearby restaurant and they got me a chicken wrap. My dad came in to talk with me a bit and to check on me. He was outside in the surrounding area most of the time in stores and stuff, he has a bit of a medical phobia and I told him it was ok for him not to be in the office if he did not want to. Probably 15 minutes later they started on me again. They gave me more anesthetic in my hairline and temperal area and finished at about 4:00pm They cleaned my entire head took some more pictures and we sat down with Dr. Charles. He gave me antibiotics, painkiller, sprays to keep my hair clean, and all the instructions. He also took my number and gave me his personal cell number. He even walked us out to our car. Overall it was a great experience and anyone nervous about a procedure should talk to him. He really put me at ease and treated me like I was the most important person there, even when I had not committed to the procedure yet. Overall 2750 grafts, not sure of the breakdown of hairline/crown/temperal. Forgive the crappy bathroom pics, I took them when I got home. Also I didn't take crown pics, they brushed my hair back and I'm not gonna touch my head until Saturday when I'm allowed my first wash. Hair - Imgur
  9. Back in 09 I had a good experience with Dr. Charles and I am set to return to him... I wondered what the deal is with this- (removed link out of respect) I just wondered about the issue with his medical license and the issue that was raised in Oct. 2011 this is NOT to rip Dr. Charles. I had a good experience with him. I wanted some clarity on this issue however. Thank you in advance Brad
  10. Past Experience:  I would like to start off by stating that i have had a past HT over 2 1/2 years ago by he who shall not be named (rhymes wit Bary Mapiro). The results results were not satisfying to say the least. I was left with an unnatural looking hairline and a hefty donor scar which prevented me from almost ever taking off my hat. Consultation: My consultation with Dr. Glenn Charles was very pleasant. Of course the moment i took off my ball cap he acknowledged the poor work that was done and seemed blown away by the large donor scar. Rather than hyping me up with some sales pitch and unrealistic expectations, Dr. Charles was very honest with what i could expect. While removing such a large scar, he anticipated i could only harvest approximately 1000 grafts and advised me to massage my scalp several times a day (which i did religiously). After leaving the office i felt as if i was now in the hands of someone who actually cared about helping me get my life back. Procedure: 5/8/12 After changing into my gown i prepared myself for the numbing shots, which really didn't hurt very much at all. During the procedure i just relaxed while watching T.V. and chatting with the friendly staff. They were very gentle and cautious in preventing any pain. After all the incisions were filled, it turned out that i amazing still had more grafts, so more incisions were made. When it was all finished, i had a bit over 1800 grafts placed (i guess the massaging works). Some pictures were taken and Dr. Charles thoroughly went over the post-op instructions. Experience: All in all, the difference between my past doctor and Dr. Charles really was like night and day. I cannot express begin to express my gratitude. The massive scar is finally GONE and i truly believe in the work done by Dr. Charles. I'm on the road to getting my life back. I know i made the right choice in choosing Dr. Charles Now: It has been a little over 24 hours since the procedure began. I have been taking my medications as instructed. i'm not in any pain at all. I plan on posting picture and making a blog when i get the chance. I started taking propecia and i'll begin taking rogaine in 2 weeks. Sorry for the long post i could easily write a 10 page paper on this experience EDIT: I have added some photos of before and after. Please let me know what you think. Edit: #2: BTW, the doctor that rhymes with Bary Mapiro is LARRY SHAPIRO. Just as a warning to those of you looking for a doctor, i urge you to avoid Larry Shapiro (you can see his butchering below).. I'd recommend the fantastic Dr. Charles instead
  11. This 24 year old man came to my clinic and met with me for a consult. As a young man, he was very nervous. He said he has done extensive research on Hair Transplantation and got my name from a few people. Patient had 2105 Follicular Unit Grafts transplanted to his frontal area in a single session. He was very happy with the result of his surgery and came back to us for his 6 months, 9 months and 1 year follow-up.
  12. So I've probably only shed about 40-50% of my transplanted hair...not worrying at this point, but wondering if this is normal or is a taste of things to come...the hair hasn't grown, but hopefully will. Is it required for a transplanted hair to fall out for a new hair to grown or will the existing hair start growing after it's dormant phase?
  13. Hi Folks, These are pictures I took myself, not easy. So here are the pictures I promised. The first few pictures are pre surgery 668 - 697, and then there are the post surgery pictures, 787-794, The last picture gives you an idea of how my hairline looked when dry. 746 Dr. Charles called me later in the evening checking up on my welfare. I am very impressed. He gave me his personal cell number to call in case I had any questions. You can't ask for better patient care than that.!! As it turns out I experienced very little discomfort last night and followed Dr. Charles post op instructions and all is really good. All grafts are present and accounted for. I am truly excited about how the entire procedure went and I am looking forward to seeing all these grafts grow!!!!! Thanks again Dr. Charles
  14. magisty1, Congratulations! Dr. Charles does great work. I'm looking forward to the pics. Happy growing!
  15. Probably update again around the one month mark, but just wanted to touch base here after 1 week. Getting my stitches out Monday, most of the scabs came off after resuming a normal shower yesterday, not really seeing any shed yet, it almost seems like they are growing...I know they aren't though Looking forward to excersizing again tomorrow...that's probably been the worst part of the whole process, I feel like a wet noodle after a week
  16. Here is a young man who was very hesitant to have a hair transplant surgery. He said he heard a few horror stories about hair transplants. He came to me office and met with me for a cosultation. He was very nervous but I was able to calm him down and made him feel comfortable, so much so that after his consult he immediately scheduled an appointment to have his surgery done in a couple of weeks. Patient had 2241 Follicular Unit Grafts transplanted to his frontal area in a single session. Patient was very happy with the result and told me that we could use him for referrals so he can encourage others by telling them of the great experience he had. His said his experience was great and the professionalism and friendly atmosphere from my staff and I made him feel at home.
  17. I am on my lunch break so typing fast (please excuse any grammatical mistakes). I think for this case you have to take into consideration the age of the patient. I would completely agree with the comments above if the patient was in his late 20s or early 30s with the eventual goal of achieving full coverage. With his donor characteristics, this would be a challenging (probably impossible) task. However, for his age, I think the result looks natural assuming the patient wanted some frontal hair to frame his face and some midscalp hair to create the illusion of density (which based on the OP from Dr.Charles sounds like what the patient wanted to achieve). I also think this case is also a good example of how much coverage can realistically be achieved with 2800 grafts considering the recipient area was very sparse. My only concern (since I can't really see the patient's entire back head) is the stability of the donor area and if the scar will eventually become visible since his sides seem to be somewhat thin. Dr. Charles, do you think this patient should be concerned about his donor area at all? Were there are any signs of miniaturization?
  18. Well, here is a question Dr. Glenn M. Charles: Considering his donor hair, I do not think he is in position to go to a head cover with hair. Do you not think it would be better of such people accepted the baldness in the first place. I am curious to know that when the donor area is not capable of provided the needed hair, what a person is required to do? In the case of this person, is he really capable of another session and doubling the density? how further can he go?
  19. Well, I'm about to bite the bullet after months of research, buy a plane ticket to FL (I'm in Ohio) and put a $1k deposit down to firm up a March 21st date, and of course having alittle case of cold feet. I've read good reviews of Dr. Charles, along with some, let's say, not good reviews..my main contact has been a patient advisor who I've been in contact with who leaves it up to me how many grafts I want (Dr. Charles looked at my pic and suggested ~1600 in the crown area, which is all I want done at the moment). Is this common? I was also looking into Dr. Shapiro in Hollywood FL, who seems to have a pretty good reputation, and is actually alittle cheaper than Dr. Charles (Dr. Charles is $3/graft while Dr. Shapiro is $2.75/graft)...basically looking for some advice and peace of mind here..dont want to get butchered or experience shockloss or any other horror stories I've read about, and definintely dont want to waste my monmey as I took out a small loan to pay for part of the procedure.... Alittle history, I'm 31, hairline is receding, but not too bad and rather slowly...want to get that done sometime in the future, but am more concerned about my completely bald crown area that I've had since my early 20's.
  20. Doing probably 15-1600 grafts in the crown, if that all goes well, then I'll be back sometime soon to fill out the front a bit....nervous and excited at the same time...I'll be sure to update everyone on the process..
  21. This 40 year old patient came in and met with Dr. Charles whom he said he heard and read so much about. After his consultation with the Doctor he was very impressed and scheduled his appointment for surgery immediately. He had 2961 Follicular Unit Grafts implanted to his frontal and crown areas in a single session. Patient was very happy with his procedure and result. He came back to our office for his 1 year Post-op and thanked Dr. Charles and his staff for doing such great job and for being so professional and friendly. Pictures showing his before, immediate post-op and 1 year post-op.
  22. I wasn’t satisfied with the fullness of my beard so I opted for a facial hair transplant in late 2010. Even thought the end result was okay, I spent six to eight weeks (immediately after the procedure) recovering from a mild infection and chronic inflammation of the transplant area. So…when I decided to go for a second round of transplants I did my research and spent some time picking the right specialist for the job. In late January of this year, I went to Dr. Glenn Charles for an additional 1,990 grafts to my beard. Not only did he personally answer all of my questions leading up to the procedure, his staff was also very professional and friendly. Well, it’s a month or so after the second procedure with Dr. Charles and I can’t say enough about how well things turned out. The visit to his office in Boca Raton (traveling from Pittsburgh) was a pleasure. Again, his staff was professional and very friendly. Dr. Charles walked me through each step of the transplant process, answering my questions as he worked and providing excellent care. Nobody likes to have a medical procedure, even when its cosmetic, but Dr. Charles and his staff made me feel comfortable and well taken care of. I highly recommend Dr. Charles and his staff of gifted professionals. I’ll be sure comment on the final result of the transplant later this year when the new hairs start to grow back. I have no doubt I’d go back to him again, if I ever decided to do more grafts.
  23. Thank you Dr. Charles for the reply. I am traveling but will resume mine at 7 days post op. Just wanted to make sure it would not dry out the graphs.
  24. I recently underwent a hair transplant procedure with Dr. Glenn Charles in Boca Raton, FL. Actually this is my second procedure. I initially received 1800 grafts in March of 2006, and I started taking finasteride 1.25 mg 5 days per week. I started seeing results by the 6 month and complete results by 9-10 months. Overall, I got great results with both of these treatments. I received a lot of compliments about my new hair, and I am very happy to have undergone the procedure. It was a great decision. However, I decided that I didn’t want to continue taking a finasteride for the long term. So I stopped taking it 8 months ago in order to see what hair would be left, which was a good bit except for the grafts. I decided to undergo a second treatment in order to fill in the thin areas. I received another 1800 grafts in August. My plan is to remain off finasteride, and determine whether or not I will need another procedure in a few years. My experience with Dr. Charles was great four years ago as well as in August. He is passionate about his profession, and I have a lot of confidence in him. He is very kind to his patients and staff, and is always willing to answer questions and follow up with you post-operatively. During my second procedure, I overheard some of his staff comparing various hair transplant surgeons in the region, and they were pretty much in agreement that Dr. Charles is someone who treats others with respect, very personable, and achieves consistent results. They truly enjoy working with him. If I were to get a third procedure, I would likely receive a lot more grafts (more than 1800), and I would want Dr. Charles to be my surgeon.

It was quite the adjustment to get used to especially since I had grown up with such a thick head of hair. I’d be lying to you if I said it didn’t knock my self esteem when I started losing my hair. People who have hair will never understand what it’s like to lose it. It’s so easy for others to say, “Just shave your head and let it go”, and for a while I did the shaved look and it looked great. But after a while, I didn’t want that to be my ONLY look. I liked having hair, and getting this procedure done became something of a life goal that I had set for myself. I knew I was going to get the procedure done at some point, but I didn’t know WHO I wanted to go to. I did quite a bit of research and narrowed my list down to two doctors (Dr. Charles being one of them). The other doctor will remain nameless. I decided to go check out the “other” doctor first and visited the office for a consultation. I have to say that the waiting area looked like a mess. They said they were undergoing renivations (if that’s the case, at LEAST put a sign up or something!) I was greeted by a very nice “sales” rep, that basically went through the entire Q and A with me (he was called a hair consultant or something like that). Now this “other” doctor had a lot of patients that he was working on so he was only available towards the end of my consultation. Our discussion was very brief, he diagnosed my hair loss, told me how many grafts he thought I should get and that was pretty much the gist of that meeting. My second consultation of the day was with Dr. Charles . From the moment I stepped into his office, I knew this was the person that I wanted to have my surgery done with. The office is immaculate and his receptionists are personable and welcoming. He sat me down and we went through every single question that I had, and he even brought up some points that I was unaware of. The two of us designed and mapped out my new hairline, he offered some great suggestions and took mine into great consideration as well. After our consultation I went home, weighed the options with my family and we had all come to an agreement that Dr.Charles was the man for the job. After scheduling my appointment, I received and email from Dr.Charles’ office about all of the pre-op and post-op directions that need I needed to follow. It was VERY thourogh and clear. I had my surgery on Dec 2nd, 2011 which was for 2581 grafts FUM. To be quite honest I don’t remember too much of the surgery because I was knocked out for most of it. But everything went perfectly. Halfway through the procedure you have a lunch break, they provide the meal (food was awesome). They have a flat screen up on the wall so you can watch any movie or television program that you would like (I ended up watching Old School). Once the procedure was done, Dr.Charles went over the post op directions with me and told me if there was ANYTHING that I needed to give him a call, even if it was in the middle of the night (he gave me his personal cell and office numbers). It’s been a little less than a month since I had my procedure. I’ve gone through all of the typical symptoms that you have after having a hair transplant. During the first week you have some swelling in the forehead and temple areas. The first night’s sleep is the hardest, but I actually slept pretty well. You get little scabs on the recipient site, which fall off. I’ve had some shock loss, but it’s to be expected so I’m not worried about it (I use Toppik and it works like a charm, just google it). I know good things come to those who wait! I should start seeing some growth in about 3-5 months and the full growth wont occur until around a year, so I’ve got some hair to look forward to! Also the donor scar is healing up very well, I even have trouble finding it and it’s been less than a month! I highly recommend going to see Dr.Charles if you even are thinking about getting your hair restored! You will not be disappointed! He is top notch, and I couldn’t recommend him highly enough! <!--EndFragment-->
