  1. 3 years later and I'm stoked on my results. Dr. Glenn Charles is the man. Literally changed my life. Don't hesitate to get him to do your transplant. Look at my results and I only had a couple thousand grafts.
  2. Guys, I spoke with Dr. Charles and frankly, his response makes perfect sense. Below is his response... ----- Hello HTN members, Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to address the situation at hand. I, as most hair doctors do, have an informational blog on my website here: http://www.charlesmedicalgroup.com/blog/ A blog post was made by our website management company on January 11, 2016 regarding FUE Hair Transplantation, mentioning Brian Urlacher(by name only), linking back to the source - an Esquire Magazine piece on his procedure which included a video by the doctor that performed his procedure. http://www.esquire.com/sports/news/a40998/brian-urlacher-hair/ At no time did we use his image, any quotes from Urlacher, any photos of Urlacher or claim to have performed his procedure or use his name or likeness in any advertising. There are several other hair blogs, currently active, that make detailed mention of Urlacher’s hair restoration process. Dr. Glenn Charles
  3. Guys, Instead of speculating about this issue, I will be contacting Dr. Charles for an explanation and will be responding when I get it. In the meantime, please remember there are two sides to every story and lets not add fuel to something we know nothing about. Best wishes, Bill
  4. Isn't this one of the approved hair transplant surgeons on this site, that plead "no contest" to two misdemeanor counts of aiding the unlicensed practice of medicine in 2013? Dr. Charles seems like a nice guy and appears to get good surgery results, but it is certainly troubling to see his name coming up again in the legal system. I hope this most recent incident involving the retired NFL player is not true.
  5. Thanks for the reply. I can not travel to Canada so Rahal is not an option. I do see some great results from Konoir and Hasson as well. I was curious if anyone had thoughts on Dr. Huebner and Dr. Charles or anyway else in the Florida area. Those names you mentioned or obviously top of the line but also very expensive. Not trying to be cheap and i know price should not be a deciding factor but I also do not have 13k or more to spend. Thanks for the help and congrats by the way, you results are awesome!
  6. You will be very pleased with Dr. Charles' results regardless of the price and not surprised that the cost in Florida is lower as compared to NY. Best wishes to you on your next procedure....
  7. On another note I will be moving to Florida so was looking at Dr. Charles or Dr. Hueber. I've read Dr. Charles is well respected and his rates are much lower than the doctors in NY. I haven't seen much on Dr. Huebner. I've also read about Dr. Cooley and Dr. Lindsey but they seem to be a bit more expensive. If anyone could share their experiences on the doctors and their pricing differences it would be great.
  8. Sorry to hear that Stinger, yeah I read your other post of course. This will be one for the docs then such as Dr. Charles etc. Hope they can help you out!
  9. That's a good point by Dr. Charles. Also carefully look into the pigments used if you go with temporary SMP as there have been reported health issues from some here. I had permanent SMP into an old Bosley FUT scar a few years ago. For donor management and also temple points (meaning a minor procedure) Lorenzo would be my choice if you can get a booking with him. The famous Belgian surgeons are also masters at FUE extraction techniques focused on donor management.
  10. Why don't you try the HairMax product that Dr. Charles mentioned? Maybe ask your doctor about it providing he does not see any issue of using a fiber concealer. Hope things clear up soon my friend.
  11. Ramez, IMHO, the main issue or concern is that the scalp is completely healed post-op and also washed clean before bedtime as Dr. Charles pointed out.
  12. Hello Lorenzo, Yes I have had a hair transplant but I'd prefer to not give my real name, thank you. This isn't my primary job and I prefer to not tell the world. Why would patients with great results come to your clinic or any other clinic that did not perform their surgery? It is rare because if they're happy with their previous surgery they either don't have another surgery or they go back to their original clinic. Haven't you seen bad results from strip and other FUE methods including motorized and hand held manual? Should those methods be avoided? This goes back to my point that it is the hand that guides the tool, not the tool itself. Dr. Arocha does not depend on the ARTAS as he also uses manual and motorized punch systems depending on the patient. Here is one and he seemed happy. There are more on other websites but I agree there are not many overall. We wish we could change this but Dr. Arocha's patients just want to put the issue behind them and enjoy their hair. http://www.hairrestorationnetwork.com/eve/171072-920-grafts-dr-glenn-charles-age-21-a.html Thank you for your time, Lorenzo. I hope you have a great week.
  13. Julius, I remember you but I don't recall the last time you checked in. Over the last couple of years, here's my perspective on what's new. FUE has become more popular and more credible as a legitimate hair transplant procedure; Scalp Micropigmentation (scalp tattooing) is more popular. This is really about it. As Dr. Charles pointed out, we are still waiting for hair multiplication and hair duplication (formerly autocloning) didn't produce the kind of results that we had hoped. We are still hopeful for advances in hair loss treatments but for now, modern hair transplant surgery with the best doctors is still the best way to restore your hair. Best wishes, Bill
  14. My profile contains my history. After research & forum lurking for 6 months, I settled on the idea that I would do a trial run. One of the most difficult things to accomplish with any elective surgery is balancing experience, reputation, and price. Normally with any medical procedure, price isn't something you really want to consider too much. As I heard one doctor say once, "Would you call around for the best price on open heart surgery or would you go to UofM?" UofM = University of Michigan which has a world class heart/lung critical care unit.... FYI. However, after short sale'ing my house this year, this nose-dived my credit severely, so financing isn't an option for the short term. So, the price factor was back on the table. Taking all of these considerations into account, and in no small part feedback from other members here, I decided on Dr. Glenn Charles in Boca Raton, FL. When they contacted me initially, I was given pricing information up front. The bottom line, no unexpected extras. I like this. I'm a person who does my homework and I don't like runaround. I live in Michigan, so a consult trip isn't terribly practical. I provided my pictures via email and received a followup call & email within a day. The turnaround time for information requests is awesome - hours to a day at the most. 2000-2500 grafts total was recommended. I decided to start small due to my budget and because, well, I like the idea of starting small with an elective procedure. You can always do more later. I opted to start with 1000 grafts and finish the job in a couple months with a second procedure. I set up my appointment about 3 weeks out and booked a 3 day trip to FL. I arrived at the office in the morning to begin. We took care of some brief paperwork, and Dr. Charles saw me immediately and reviewed the procedure, my expectations, and asked about my questions and goals. I didn't have any questions since I already knew exactly what I wanted and had researched everything. What I really liked was that he asked several times about my goals and opinions, and didn't just say "Well you need to do this and it'll be $30,000" which is exactly what one would expect out from the elective surgery industry. I stated my goals, and he agreed they were reasonable. The graft counts that both he and I estimated were right on the money. Surgical prep was easy, although this was the worst part of the experience for me because I am NOT a fan of needles. Everyone explains what they will be doing, when they will do it, and what you'll feel (if anything). There were no surprises, which is good because I do not like surprises. The staff provided a menu and I picked out something for lunch. I picked out something to watch on TV, and away we went with prep. Nothing about the process hurts except the initial anesthesia. 75% of the injections are negligible pain and the remaining 25% feel like someone is pinching you in an annoying manner. It's tolerable, and you'll get through it. I just have a very hard time dealing with needles, and I had to take a couple 1 minute breaks during this process to catch my breath and stop sweating profusely. If needles don't bother you, you'll sail through this. You don't even see the needles anyway - it's just a mental thing. They will check to make sure you are adequately numb and will add more anesthetic if needed. I didn't need any follow-up injections. I opted for the strip method, so the donor area was obviously done first. This went very quickly and without incident. 3 staff members worked on preparing the grafts. Dr. Charles worked on the recipient site next. Before I knew it, the grafts were being set. We breaked about 12:30 for lunch which was nice. Providing lunch was a very nice touch to the process which made it more relaxing. The whole process, start to finish, took about 5 hours including lunch. It didn't seem like it took that long. The time really flew by. You don't feel anything the whole time. Post-op, more pictures were taken and I sat down with Dr. Charles who explained how everything went and to go over post-op medications and instructions. Everything was provided in detail, both verbally and in writing. He will show you how to use the medications such as the sprays and at what pressure to push with a gauze pad if needed. This is exceptional. I'm used to seeing hospital discharge papers which give you generic instructions and you're kicked out as fast as possible. Not the case here. Dr. Charles will take your contact info and also provide you with his cell phone number. All in all, the whole process went smooth and more than exceeded my expectations. I'm writing this 5 hours post-op. Pain-wise, I rate the post op pain as a 4 out of 10. It's not terrible but it's not pleasant either, which is what I was expecting. If you're ever had on a construction hard hat too tight and gotten a headache from it, this is exactly what it feels like. No more no less. It's tolerable and controllable with the pain meds & Tylenol. Don't let this deter you if you're considering the procedure. You're not going to be screaming in agony. Side note - You are given meds to relax you before the procedure... likely valium or something similar. Depending on how you react to these sorts of medications, you may want to arrange transportation. I myself am not negatively affected by either pain killers or the greater family of "chill pills" (valium, Xanax, etc) so I was ok to drive, and drove myself back to the hotel. Some people space out and get all goofy on these, so plan accordingly, and as always with meds, your mileage may vary. Overall this was a good experience and it was smooth sailing. Now it's just about waiting for the results. Another note: Your head doesn't look especially pretty immediately afterwards, so don't have any misconceptions that no one will notice. Being a motorcycle rider, I came prepared and brought a headwrap and my Harley shirts with me so I look like any ordinary biker on the prowl. I'm not so much worried about people staring at me as I am about other people freaking out at the sight of blood & surgical wounds, so do consider that when you travel out and about. Wear a loose fitting hat or something, the last thing you need during your day is kids shrieking and moms passing out at the airport. The office is located in Boca Raton and is in a very good area. I've never been to the Fort Lauderdale greater area before. Traveling through here (I stayed in Pompano Beach) has both nice and shady areas like any major metropolitan area. Like most "beach towns," the closer you are to the beach, the better the area is. Boca was great, and you won't have any issues there by the office. Again, the procedure went great and my expectations were met in every way. I'm looking forward to seeing how this turns out over the coming months and hopefully will have the opportunity to come back in the next couple months for "round two" to finish up the crown area, of which I need another 1500 grafts or so. Final note on pricing... this was a huge win for me and definitely will make me a repeat customer here. I requested and paid for 1000 grafts. I received a travel credit which came right off the top of the bill, being an out of town shopper. I actually received more, I believe it was around 1250 grafts, at no extra cost. You can't beat that. Definitely two thumbs up for Dr. Charles.
  15. Im new to these type of forums but wanted to post about my experiences with Dr. Glenn Charles. Im a teacher in Palm Beach Florida a retired NyPD lieutenant. I just had my third surgery with Dr. Charles yesterday in Boca Raton. Dr. Charles has treated me like family and his staff is amazing. I don't have pics but Im 52 yrs old and can pass for less than 40 with all my hair. I had over 2000 grafts each time and believe this past surgery should be enough. The technicians too their time starting after 9 and finishing up after lunch around 1pm. They made sure they filled in every bald spot and Dr. charles being a hands on dr made sure the work was great. Im hoping every thing turns out well as Im on Spring Break and have enough time to recouperated.
  16. For many of them, it's probably due to the hair becoming softer and less kinky after 18 months. Maybe try a good quality moisturizing shampoo and cr?me rinse from this point on...possibly you have done this already but like Dr. Charles stated, many of these situations do resolve with time.
  17. http://www.hairrestorationnetwork.com/eve/176313-no-discernible-no-definitive-hairline-border-after-3000-grafts-have-i-been-scammed.html I was a participant in this thread of surfmusic777 and he had some pretty bad results from a now deceased coalition member. It appears that the doctor was in business with Dr. Charles. According to surfmusic777 Dr. Charles is managing several hair mills under is name. I haven't researched into these claims of surfmusic777 too much yet but was hoping the moderators would look into the situation and clear things up. If he is indeed operating other clinics under his name, I do not think such a doctor should be recommended here for many obvious reasons. EDIT:I think that I rushed to conclusions and the title of this thread is inappropriate. Especially after seeing how unstable of a person surfmusic777 is. I think the title should be changed to, "other hair clinics" instead of "hair mills". I think emotions take the best of us when we see bad results and we want to know exactly why. After surfmusic777 starting posting more it was clear that he's not the most credible source and could have a serious case if bi-polar disorder. I think some should research this guy being a police officer and make them aware of some of his postings to the general public. I can guarantee he abuses his power.
  18. Hello I recently mustered up enough courage to undergo a hair transplant. I selected Dr. Glenn Charles of the Charles Medical Group in Boca Raton, Florida as my surgeon. The procedure was not painful and Dr. Charles and his staff were very professional. I am very happy that I choose Dr. Charles to be my hair transplant surgeon. Day 1- Procedure for 1500 follicles along hairline completed. The duration of the procedure was about 5 hours in length. At night, I had some mild discomfort in the back of my head, but I was still able to sleep throughout the night. Day 2- I returned to Dr. Charles's office for a wash. The wash lasted about 15 minutes in length, and it felt great. During the afternoon, I continued to feel less discomfort then yesterday. At night, I continue to feel less discomfort and tightening in the donor site. More to come soon...
  19. Hi Dr. Charles, Does the HairCheck software measure things such as hair count, follicular units per cm2, and vellus to terminal ratio?
  20. Hi Dr.charles, is this software expensive? I found some software called fotofinder trichoscale, are these the same functions your software has? "FotoFinder Trichoscale offers optimized measuring functions and integrates smoothly in FotoFinder dermoscope systems and is also available as stand alone software for Handyscope photos Instant count mode for immediate calculation of hair count, hair density, vellus to terminal ratio and vellus to terminal density. Trichogramm mode for Anagen-Telogen ratio Measurement of follicular units Hair count optimization function Personalized report printing on paper or as PDF"
  21. Thanks Dr. Charles. Would you even recommend occasionally applying an icepack to the recipient area?
  22. I think this video was just an excuse by Dr. Charles to bust out the guns! Good info!
  23. Well done Dr. Charles. The front filled in nicely. I'm sure your client is quite pleased with the results. Congratulations Sir.
