  4. Hi all, I've posted a couple of times on here previously. My story briefly is as follows: I'm in my early thirties, and have been noticeably losing my hair since around 2006 (so 10-11years), with the most rapid loss between 2012 and 2014. My father is a NW5 slowly progressing to a 6 (but he is 70!), I'm probably a NW5 too at present but progressing towards an NW6. My maternal grandfather had a full head of hair (maybe a NW2 or NW3 at worst), my paternal grandfather didn't (probably a NW6). Despite noticing my hair loss for the past decade or so, I haven't really taken any action. In 2011 I trialled minoxidil for 6 months, however stopped taking it after this time due to palpitations. It worked well, I noticed new hairs forming (in my hairline), however after I stopped taking it I noticed dramatic loss in a couple months or so (hence my worse loss probably being around 2012-2013). I never tried finasteride; I know, people are going to say; "why not?" or "just give it a try!". It's purely a personal decision; I do not wish to undergo any of those side effects nor have to take a pill for the rest of my life. If this stops me from getting a great result, then so be it. However, I am perhaps willing to try 1mg of Propecia 3x/week; that way it would be much cheaper and also I would hopefully at less risk of sides (it’s not just the sexual ones which concern me, I have a very high functioning job, and need to be on my A game all day; I don’t want the cognition side effects either). Anyways, I decided I would probably need multiple HT in 2013 and enquired at H&W with David Anderson. He was very amicable and he followed me up until 2016 when he left. I actually booked a 4500+ FUT megasession with Dr. Hasson, however unfortunately I had to cancel this due to no longer being available at the dates I had booked (as I would have to fly to Canada and back this was not possible in the short amount of time I had off). I was also uneasy about undergoing FUT due to the scar. I have already told myself as a last resort that if my hair gets really bad I will just have to keep it really short or buzzcut it, this would not be possible with FUT (and is just about a possible with FUE); I understand that FUE leaves scars too, don’t worry. They were very kind and considerate about all this and I thank them and their whole team for their professionalism. For sure if I needed a FUT they would be the first point of call; I had been researching for the last 5 years or so, and they definitely seemed the top. I then went researching for a surgeon who did FUE who was close by but affordable. My research brought up several familiar names: Lorenzo, Bisanga, Lupanzula and Erdogan. These (location wise) would all be feasible in my very limited time off and all their work shows great skill. However Lorenzo never replied to my emails until several months later and I decided I didn't want to fly in the end so ruled Spain (& Lorenzo out) and Turkey out and thus Erdogan. This left both Lupanzula and Bisanga as my top choices, they both had my dates available, and if I am correct Lupanzula worked previously with Bisanga? I was able to consult with Dr. Lupanzula over Skype however unfortunately logistically I was unable to meet him, however I was able to actually meet Dr. Bisanga in person and this definitely swung it for me. He was very amicable, and has many have commented he doesn't promise you the world, he is very realistic, conservative (the good kind!), honest and ethical. We decided that 3000-3500 grafts would be most appropriate with them concentrating on rebuilding the hairline and the frontal third. As you can see from my photos, the crown is also very bare, but I will have to therefore have another HT to potentially sort this out in the near future ± try propecia 3x a week. I was classed as a NW4V although I feel my hair is worse than that; it was probably made difficult for the doctor as I had my hair very short at the time of the consultation. In my eyes, hairline > crown coverage due to framing of the face.etc. My hair is quite thin, and my head is quite large, therefore I am not sure what sort of coverage I would need to get a good result, but thankfully my donor density was rated as decent with 80FU/cm2 all around. So, tomorrow I will have the first session of 3000-3500 grafts and then revisit my hair in 2 years time to either work further on the front, midscalp or deal with the vertex; depending on how much reserve I have. I’ll try to keep updated! Photos below are from January time; I can update with clinic photos tomorrow.
  5. For FUE, H&W quoted me $9.6AUD per graft whereas Devroye, Lupanzula, Lorenzo from $3.9AUD to $5.3AUD, not quite the same in my case. Maybe Dr. Wong didn't want me and scared me away 😉

  8. Hi Everyone! I just came back from my surgery with Dr.Lupanzula and his crew. Some people know that i have done two hair transplantats with Dr.Keser in the past, one just a year ago. The goal with this third and hopefully last transplant was to add temple points and fill in the mid-scalp that have been thinning out over the last 6 years not using meds, made evident too me when shaving for my last hair transplantat, and of course my sensitive barber also pointed it out . Im now on medication(fin) since a year back and actually going to try topical finasteride 1% that Lupanzula gave to me, hoping for less side effects. My total graft count as of now is 6543 FUE grafts. Lupanzula told me my donor was extraordinary thick leaving me with additional 2-3k grafts in the bank for future transplant if needed. I have only good things to say about Dr Lupanzula and his crew. Very professional, kind and effective. Dr Lupanzula does all the extraction and incisions by himself leaving the placing of the grafts to his technicians. They are very helpful, welcoming and responding and im very happy with the work. looks really clean and im hopping for great results. The graft counts: 932 singles 933 doubles 965 triples 152 quardruple 5 quintpule Going to keep you guys updated in the process. feel free to ask me any questions! Thank you.
  9. Hi all, About to consult with a few docs, and was wondering what you would do in my situation - just to get some second opinions from this valued forum. I'm 28, NW 2/3. Started noticing temple recession about 3 years ago, but may have started earlier. Been on finasteride (Propecia) & minoxidil for about two years, seemed to have slowed the recession, and given minor new recruitment in temple regions. Family history: Father's side, all bald, or a NW 6/7. Older brother is a NW 5/6. Mother's side = not much balding really. I'm debating whether I: a) Go unshaven at the front, and just get a couple thousand grafts to fix the temples and lower the hair line a little. I'm conscious on not going too aggressive, as I may need many more grafts down the track. ~or~ b) Get more grafts further back as a preventative to cover the hair that I haven't lost yet. For reference, I am considering Dr. Lupanzula, Dr. Kesser (if graft estimate is low enough), or Dr. Sethi at Eugenix - as these doctors have quite a few patients with a similar NW pattern. I'm living in New Zealand, so I'm going to travel regardless. Eager to hear your thoughts, and the input is greatly appreciated Thanks! Note: Some of these pictures seem a bit better than how it appears in person, without the remainder of my face for contrast.

  22. Since you are in India, why don't you consider Dr.Bhatti, recommended here with great proven results. I feel like he is understimated. Otherwise beside the spanish doctors I would also consider other belgians like Devroye, Lupanzula and Bisanga.
  23. I wanted to share my recent experience with Dr Lupanzula in Brussels. I've benefited a lot from reading people's experiences and watching their surgeries mature over the years before choosing to take the plunge, and in turn I hope somebody will find mine helpful. Thank you to Dr Lupanzula and team, and I want to give a shoutout to Mickey85 and Joe-who-must-not-be-named. Both have helped me tremendously over the years when I was researching HTs and helped me with my decision. I will follow up with pictures soon. Hotel After arriving from Brussels, I took a cab to the Hotel Catalonia (didn't want to bother with public transport). I had thought the hotel's name sounded familiar, as it turns out, it is directly across the street from Dr. Bisanga's clinic (which looks a little bit like a castle). So it's nice that they regularly get HT patients. The hotel is affordable, and in a nice area. The Area The surrounding area is very picturesque, very old world, and not heavily populated. Most people speak English well, so you can get around. The main language here is French, and it's helpful to know it. But you can get by with English. Near the hotel there is a Chez Frances restaurant for breakfast, and a nice Thai place called Thai Cafe. I chilled in the area for a day before heading to the clinic. The Clinic The clinic is about a ten minute walk directly south from the Hotel Catalonia. Upon entering, I was greeted by the clinic's patient coordinator Giancarlo. Giancarlo is fluent in multiple languages. The clinic has a very modern design, very "Bauhaus", with plenty of white, and clean lines throughout. Consult We then met with Dr Lupanzula. He looked through my donor and recipient, and went over my family's history. He noted that while the area to cover was significant, I was a good candidate for a few reasons: 1) Good donor hair - coarse, wavy hair that aids in the illusion of coverage. 2) Darker skin, which reduces contrast, and 3) A good number of multi follicular units. He snipped off hairs to measure the shaft caliber. Then he shaved my head. I admittedly was not looking forward to this. But it was a good idea, not only does it save time the next morning, it puts you in the "zone" mentally for surgery. What's more, I decided that a shaved head, while not the best look, wasn't the worst one either for me, so it's good to know. Post shaving, he measured my donor density under magnification, with the parietal areas having just below 100 grafts/cm and the occipital around 110. He estimated that my donor capacity, if we harvested 30%, would be around 7,000 units, and if we harvested 40% (which would be on the border of over-harvesting), about 9,000. All in all, he considered me a good candidate. He drew a hairline, which I was fine with. I wanted a conservative hairline, but at the same time we still want to make a visual impact. The plan was to harvest and implant most of the grafts on day 1, with the hairline to follow on day 2. Day 1 Day 1 began early, since you're supposed to eat before, I grabbed some croissants from a bakery right across the corner that happened to be open at 6:30am. The Dr gave me the meds and it was time to roll. After changing into hospital scrubs, he gave me anesthetic injections in the back of the scalp. Btw, I knew anesthetic injections were the most painful part of the surgery, and it was true, I found them to be very painful, and they are required multiple times throughout the surgery as a different area is operated, either for harvesting, or implantation. Then again, they are obviously required, so there is no getting around it. Dr Lupanzula uses a a CIT handle manual punch to score grafts. He harvested grafts from the back and sides, one after another. He has a distinctive punching motion where at the end of the forward twisting motion he pushes in the tool slightly, which was noticeable. Afterwards, the grafts were plucked out. This is a weird feeling, you feel a slight popping sensation, similar to how a grape or a berry is plucked off the stem. Keep in mind, you have to stay very still during the procedure, and notify the Dr before moving. Staying still can get difficult when the parietal areas are being harvested because you are lying on your side. The team inspects the grafts under microscope and prepares them for re-implanting. Grafts are stored in ATP Hypothermosol. After harvesting we had lunch. The clinic eats lunch together in their break room, which is nice. Everybody in the clinic speaks English, so language is never a problem. Implantation Two steps to implantation, recipient site creation and placement. After anesthesia, the doctor used needles to make incisions. This is an interesting process. He moves very quickly in creating the incisions. There is a lot of power, and you can feel the fibrotic scalp being punctured. Given the speed and power, it feels powered by a machine, but it is manual. This process is actually surprisingly pleasurable. Who would think that having 2-3,000 holes poked into your scalp feels good, but it does. Patients who have been operated by the implanter pen also report the same thing. Afterwards, his team places the grafts. This last part takes time. Afterwards they had me bandaged, and I was off to the hotel at about 6pm. Afterwards, I sprayed my grafts every 15-20 minutes with saline. Day 2 This day was going to be shorter by design, as 2K grafts were harvested on Day 1 with 1K to follow. The same process followed as the day before, however we were done earlier. Then the clinic bandaged me up and I headed home. Day 1 Postop Day 1 was the first clinic hair wash. His wife, Sandra washed my scalp, spraying Betadine shampoo on both donor and recipient, and massaged the donor vigorously, and then applied an antibiotic creme to the donor. This is to be done everyday for the first 7 days (which I have done) and afterwards the recipient site should be gently massaged after applying Betadine shampoo. The clinic had a driver take me to the airport afterwards for my flight. I had originally chosen to fly immediately to avoid traveling while swollen, but I didn't experience visible swelling, in retrospect, I would have stayed in Brussels longer, just to give my grafts more time to set before moving. The flight was fine, and to note, it was not uncomfortable or painful to fly after surgery. I had a neck pillow to prevent the donor area from touching the seat rests. I wore a bandanna outside, but took it off when inside the plane, and regularly sprayed with saline. I have finished 1 week postop, and the clinic has remarked that all looks appropriate.
