  11. Dear forum members, As many of you know, we gather as much information as possible about a physician, their staff, technique and track record before they are even considered for recommendation on the Hair Transplant Network. Part of our review process involves getting input from patients and the members of this forum community. To learn more about this review process, click here. We’d like to gather your input and opinions regarding the potential recommendation of Dr. Kongkiat Laorwong of Thailand on the Hair Transplant Network. At this time, Dr. Laorwong is only being considered for recommendation, not the Coalition. To see our standards for recommendation and how it differs from Coalition membership, click here. Dr. Kongkiat Laorwong has over 10 years of experience and was trained and performed his fellowship under former Coalition member Dr. Damkerng Pathomvanich. Dr. Laorwong performs both FUT and FUE hair transplant surgery exclusively at his clinic Bangkok, Thailand. Dr. Laorwong has the staff and experience to perform large, densely packed sessions of follicular unit grafting exceeding 3000 grafts when appropriate for the patient and operates on only 1 patient per day. While the number of follicular units Dr. Laorwong harvests in a single day via FUE may be smaller, patients often return for multiple days to achieve their goals. With FUE, a single session can extend multiple consecutive days. In 2016, Patrick Hennessey, Founder and Publisher of the Hair Transplant Network visited Dr. Kongkiat Laorwong and observed his surgical technique at his clinic in Thailand. Typically, Pat presents the highlights from visits to leading hair transplant clinics in the "Visits to Leading Hair Transplant Clinics" forum category however, the files and photos pertaining to his visit were regrettably damaged during his travels. However, Pat was very impressed with Dr. Laorwong and felt that he was very dedicated to state of the art FUT/strip and FUE hair transplant surgery. Dr. Laorwong specializes in FUT/Strip, FUE, BHT, eyebrow transplantation, mustache and beard restoration and scar repair. He also provides non-surgical hair loss solutions including PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) injections, finasteride, 5% minoxidil and laser therapy via the laser cap. Dr. Kongkiat uses minimally invasive techniques and all the latest tools such as the trichophytic closure, microscopic dissection via strip, dense packing, tiny incisions as small as 0.8mm depending on the graft size and patient. During FUE (follicular unit extraction), Dr. Laorwong uses various sharp punches with a Vortex motorized hand piece for ease of usability, precision, speed and to maximize control while minimizing transection. Some extraneous tissue is left on the grafts to maximize survival rates and reduce damage during handling. Lion implanters or forceps are used to implant the harvested follicular units into pre-made tiny incisions. Grafts are only kept outside of the body in a chilled intracellular storage, HTK solution for 2 to 6 hours depending on the size of the session. Grafts are transplanted long before desiccation (dehydration) or damage of any kind can occur to the follicular units. Dr. Laorwong provides both FUT via strip surgery and FUE as he feels both extraction techniques have a valuable place in hair transplant surgery. He believes what's good for one patient isn't always best for another. Dr. Kongkiat Laorwong is dedicated to creating natural hairlines using only the finest single haired follicular units for placement. Dr. Laorwong densely packs up to 50 follicular units per square centimeter (FU/cm2) when appropriate. Given Dr. Kongkiat Laorwong's vast experience in performing both state of the art FUT and FUE and providing only the best results, in my opinion, he should be considered for recommendation. Over the last several months, Dr. Laorwong has presented several examples of his FUT/strip and FUE procedure and recent results on this forum. A sample of Dr. Laorwong's Recent Patient and Surgical photos can be found below: 2502 Grafts Via Strip 3641 Grafts Via Strip 3645 Grafts Via Strip 2584 Grafts Via Strip 1779 Grafts Via Strip 3627 Grafts Via Strip 3093 Grafts Via Strip 3070 Grafts Via Strip 3000 Grafts FUE 3417 Grafts FUE 1800 Grafts FUE You can find additional examples of his work by visiting the “Results Posted by Leading Hair Transplant Clinics” forum and by using the “search” feature. I welcome input and comments from forum members regarding his potential recommendation. To view our standards for recommendation, click here. Onwards and Upwards, Bill

    Considering hair transplant Dr. Binsanga

NTCP8, Thanks for posting your questions. I want to say a couple things and then I will give you my input on your question. But first, Dr. Bisanga is outstanding and I would never do anything to persuade you not to go to him because he is a highly esteemed coalition member and I would trust him with my scalp in full. However, I’m surprised given that you are in Thailand or near it that you are considering Dr. Pathomvanich or Dr. Kongkiat Laorwong. Dr. Path is also a highly esteemed coalition member and Dr. Laorwong was trained by Dr. Path. All three surgeons are highly recommended by this community and have an excellent track record of producing outstanding results. You can see dozens of examples of all their results on this community. Like I said, I would never want to persuade you away from one of our outstanding doctors. But I just wanted to remind you that you have 2 other outstanding doctors also recommended by our community in your backyard. Regarding whether or not you should wait a year that is up to you. But typically, people who are just starting Propecia or Rogaine might decide to wait a year because they want to see how well the medicine does before they have a hair transplant. In your case however, you’ve already tried Propecia and it doesn’t seem to be something you want to continue. I see somebody mentioned topical finasteride and if you are willing to give that a shot, maybe you should try waiting a year before your hair transplant. If you decide not to use any medication, there’s no reason for you to delay however, just understand that because you have a diffuse thinning pattern, that you will likely continue to lose more natural hair and the in result of a single hair transplant will likely be a similar look but with more permanent hair. As more natural hair begins to fall out, you can continue some sequins procedures in order to replace the lost natural hair with transplanted hair. I hope this helps. Bill

He was already on finasteride prior to surgery and continue to take it after surgery.
  18. 45 years old male who has extensive hair loss from front to mid scalp and wanted to achieve feminine hair line with high density. The hairs are straight, fine with good density. She underwent 4 FUT sessions about 10,118 grafts (20,631 hairs) were planted with happy result as shown below.

  20. Hi Everyone, OK - so I have been going through this forum for the last few hours. I have searched on Google for mentions of both these doctors on the forums and have pretty much read every single thread possible. Here's what I've learnt so far: 1. Dr. Laorwong is a former student of Dr. Pathmvanich. 2. It seems that Dr. Laorwong does many more FUE treatments than Dr. Pathmvanich. 3. Dr. Laorwong was recommended by this forum only this year. 4. Dr. Laorwong seems to have more recent reviews from threads on this forum. 5. Dr. Pathmvanich has reviews and threads which date back quite some time, so seems to have a lot of experience. On the whole - both doctors seem to be reviewed quite well. So here's my question - who should I choose?! I definitely want to do it in BKK because I'm in Oz and can get there quickly and cheaply. I am leaning towards FUE because I don't really like the idea of a long scar on the back of my head, as I wear my hair quite short. A little about me : 35, Asian decent, thinning only at the crown. I would say I am a Norwood III. Any recommendation of which Dr to choose would be great! Please don't answer; 'it all depends' Because that doesn't help me! If you think it depends on something then tell me what it depends on and give options dependant on the things it depends on (if that makes sense?! ) Thank you!
  21. Hi All, I have finally taken the plunge and started my hair loss (or should I say hair regrowth!) journey. As I've read a lot of peoples posts here and gained a lot of insight and assistance, I thought it only fair if I also put forward my own journey so that maybe I'll be able to help someone else who might be considering doing the same. I'm going try to chronologically recount my journey on this thread and as I progress I will also update this thread, hoping to have a concise picture of the beginning the middle and the end of my journey (and hopefully a full head of hair!). ** The Beginning : 5 Months Ago ** As probably most of everyone here, I started by researching techniques! I decided on the FUE technique in the end because I was worried the strip technique would leave me with a scar and I like to have my hair short. Then I researched all over the Internet (real self, other blogs and forums) and this forum for the right doctor for me. Price really wasn't that big of a factor, it was more experience and good reviews that made the difference for me, oh, and pictures! PICTURES! Also I'm in Australia - I couldn't really find any doctors in Australia that came highly recommended, so taking a trip to Thailand wasn't going to be an issue. I finally settled on the two doctors who seem most highly recommended in Bangkok - Dr. Pathomvanich or Dr. Kongkiat Laorwong. I emailed them both with pictures of my hair line (attached). I actually didn't get a reply from Dr. Path at all and got a reply from Dr. Laorwong the next day. Here's the picture I sent and got back from Dr. Laorwong: After doing more research and speaking to my family and partner, I decided - OK, if I'm going to do it - let's do it! So I booked my flights, my hotels and also booked my appointment with Dr. Laorwong. ** 1 Week Before ** It's now 1 week before the surgery and I'm feeling quite confident, I keep on looking at b4 and afters for Dr. Laorwong and I'm feeling confident that I will have a good result. I am hoping for 1,500 grafts at 90 bhatt per graft, so that's going to be around ?3,000 (AUD5,500). Which if it works, seems OK to me. But if it doesn't work - wow, that's a lot of money to waste! The doctor's office has emailed me with some tips before surgery which I will share with you : Two weeks before surgery • No Rogaine or Minoxidil. One week before surgery • No Plavix, Aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid - A.S.A.) or anti-inflammatory medications that contain Aspirin. • No Vitamin E, Fish oil. • No Ginkgo Bilobe, Ginseng or other herbal supplements. • Continue your regular medicines unless the doctor told you to stop taking them. • If you have high blood pressure and taking medication please inform your doctor not to use Beta blocker for one week prior to surgery and switch to other drug. • Please notify the doctor in case of fever or sickness or other surgery you will have prior to surgery. OK - that's it from me for now. Will update again when land in Thailand!
  22. Hello all! I will be going under the knife tomorrow with Dr. Pathomvanich to hopefully lower my hairline by at least 1.5cm... my feelings include excitement and fear... but im happy im finally doing something about my insecurity... I chose Dr. Path because hes one of the best FUT in the world, and really affordable... however ive noticed his reviews and results have slimmed down in the past 5 years. Hope he still has the magic touch. I trust that i am in good hands, and ive never seen any bad results from him. I do wish i had gone with FUE, only because i have a virgin scalp and im pretty young. But its too late now... what does concern me is the scar on the back of my head, if it does bother me too much, i could always get grafts placed into it right? If anybody has any tips or advice for post op care, id really appreciate it. Thank you for reading this, i hope all goes well.

  25. The journey is scheduled... I've booked my FUT procedure with Dr. Pathomvanich in Bangkok for June 1st! I'm excited, but also nervous, which is normal for any upcoming surgical procedure, I suppose. I chose Thailand for two reasons, I have a Thai wife, and I'm familiar with the high level of service in private healthcare in Thailand. I originally booked an FUT procedure with another Thai surgeon, but after some internet research (on this site) I decided to cancel and switch to Dr. Pathomvanich. However, he was fully booked. With two tickets to Thailand already purchased, I found myself in a fix; stay with the surgeon with bad internet reviews, or cancel the whole trip. I caught a lucky break when one of Dr. Pathomvanich's other patients cancelled and opened a near perfect timeslot on June 1st. I'll have 10 days in BKK to heal before I head back to the U.S. on June 11 Question: if I have the surgery on June 1st, do you think I'll have time to travel in Thailand after sufficient healing, or will I be bound to the hotel room the entire 10 days? From the photos I sent Dr. Pathomvanich, he suggest 3500 grafts, which may change after our initial consultation on May 31. I've gotten two estimates here in the US, one suggested 2500 grafts, and the other (Bosley) 3500. My hair is thin, and low density, in my opinion. I'll post some pics soon. June 2nd, 2017 The hair transplant was a success and Dr. Pathomvanich was able to get more grafts than his estimate. The total figures final were: Total Grafts - 3623 Total Hairs - 7486 1 hair grafts - 425 2 hair grafts - 2467 3 hair grafts - 698 4 hair grafts - 0 In the US I was told 3500 would be high, and to expect 2500-3000. My overall impression of the clinic and staff was excellent all around. Dr. Pathomvanich is easy-going and professional. His demeanor is such that you immediately feel at ease in his presence, and that you've made the right choice in physicians. On surgery day, the staff of 12 is full of hustle and bustle, but all the while you're taken care of in a warm and friendly way. Once the procedure begins, everyone knows their tasks and they get down to business quickly. Regarding the procedure itself, at no time did I feel anything that crossed the threshold of actual pain. There were a couple of moments of slight discomfort from from the local anesthetic being injected, but no worse than a tetanus shot. I was given a couple of sleeping pills (Valium) and found myself nodding off from time to time, which helped the 8 hours pass quickly. If at any time you want to take a break, go to bathroom, or eat a sandwich, you need only ask. In fact, if you don't ask, they'll ask you if you want a break. During the procedure, on the first break, they take you to the different work stations and show you what everyone's doing. You can tell his staff love their work as much as he does, and they are eager to share their tasks with you. I was a little groggy, so I didn't ask many questions, but it really is fascinating work they do. I took a taxi back to my hotel, and while the traffic took a while, I wasn't out of it and didn't fall asleep. Back in the room I showered (not my head), and picked up some to go food around the corner. I was anticipating a lot of pain when the anesthetic wore off, but nothing like that occurred. I took the ibuprofen, anti-biotic, anti-inflammatory, and sleeping pill and went right to sleep. Some slight discomfort, but nowhere near what I had been expecting. The next morning, 5:00AM to be exact, I woke up from a sound sleep and had forgotten all about the surgery. I soon touched my head and remembered, then sprang out of bed to check the mirror. No blood, just redness and a little swelling As planned, I went back to Dr. Path's office for a shampooing and post op visit. All good so far. Now it's the second night after the operation and I feel good, but a slight amount of pain. I haven't taken any ibuprofen since morning though. I'll take one, with a sleeping pill, and call it a night. One more thing, the head band. I've been wearing it, and I do notice some puffiness above the band, but none below. Although, the nurse told me tomorrow and the next day the puffiness will increase, but then decrease permanently after that.
