Advice for Hair Loss Sufferers Considering Hair Transplant Surgery

My Story

  1. Dr. Saifi does FUT in Poland. Dr. Bisanga and Dr. Feriduni do FUT in Belgium.
  2. Thank you very much to both of you for your concern. Much appreciated. Even if I would have preferred an opinion on my original question 😉 Indeed my donor area is quite limited, but several renowned surgeons, including, Feriduni, Konior or the HLC clinic indeed consider me as patient for a FUE (scalp + beard). I hope I can trust their acute analysis and experience. In the case where some FUE spots would be visible, possibly SMP could help. I indeed had a SMP into my scar before to excise it. It was good at the beginning but the 2nd tatoo made on it wasn't natural anymore. I don't take any Propecia and Monoxidyl as I has side effects for both. The 2 FUT were done 11 years ago in Canada by Dr. David Clas, but he has closed his clinic some years ago. The result was very good in the first years then it started shredding year by year until today. I don't know I could have avoid the loss of grafts with another surgeon, maybe it's due to genetics.
  3. Thanks a lot for the answer. I agree with you, but the smp was not recommended to me, because I suffer from seborrheic dermatitis with symptoms also common to psoriasis, of the scalp. Also, honestly said, I'd rather have some scars on my chest, or under my face, to try and make the donor more presentable. I also think it's due to the fact that, unfortunately, I made a mistake in choosing the surgeon, who is renowned for having caused disasters, as well as being unethical. I think that with a competent doctor I could have almost invisible scars, with the right precautions. Thanks a lot for the answer. I no longer turned to the doctor, after the ethical scarcity treatment and the results it got me. I just did a few laser hair removal sessions to temporarily remove bad facial hair. But it all grew back within 6 months, after doing 6 laser sessions. Now I have a visit to Dr. Feriduni in November 2021. Fingers crossed.
  4. good morning everyone, 4 years ago I had a beard transplant with indecent results. Double and triple hair, and donor with visible scars. 2500 follicular units. I think I will repair it at Feriduni, Bisanga, or Mwamba, with a donor restocking and extraction of the plugs. I have already booked a visit to Dr. Feriduni, in November 2021. I think I'm a good candidate, I have a lot of hair on my chest and beard under my face. I have another question. my donor scars are whiter than the surrounding skin. I have a skin type 4. I have read that there are treatments which could to naturally repigment a depigmented scar. For example: - laser fraxel restore, it seems that it can give good results; - microneedling with tyrosine solution (Dr. Novick) - UVB laser, excimer laser (in practice, the laser used for vitiligo) - Relume treatment - melanocyte transplant does anyone have any info about it? are they viable solutions for those with fue scars? thank you.
  5. It isn't at all about Dr. Feriduni, I just have a case and wondering if any one here have the same or can give a hint.
  6. FUE and extractions performed on a 46-year old Caucasian male with • 1 FUT (2013) and 2 FUE ex domo • NW V-IV • Donor density of 84 FU/cmÇ occipital, 76 FU/cmÇ parietal, 76 FU/cmÇ temporal • Hair diameter of ~ 56-64 microns Treatment plan Extraction of wrong-placed, wrong-directed and wrong-angulated FU in the frontal hairline and in the crown area. Follicular Unit Extraction to repair and attain an aesthetic reconstruction of the crown area. Extraction of pluggy FU in the hairline and midhead section. Performed procedures 1. Extraction of 301 FU (November 29, 2016) In 2017, the patient underwent a FUE with about 2000 FU ex domo to restore the hairline (we advised to have the treatment in another professional clinic since we could not offer a surgery date anymore that year) 2. Extraction of 130 FU (May 29, 2018) 3. FUE (April 5, 2019) Follicular Unit Extraction with 2153 FU: * 233 single hair FU * 1253 double hair FU * 642 triple and quadruple hair FU HGI: 2,1 4. Extraction of 48 FU (August 24, 2020) Full case on https://www.feriduni.com/en/results/repair Dr. Bijan Feriduni
  7. Hey Guys, Tomorrow I'll be talking to Dr. Devroye, he is the creator of the WAW system, the punch used by some of the world's best Konior, Hasson and Wong, Feriduni, Shapiro, etc. Some of you may not know this, but Dr. Devroye was the first European doctor to join the Hair Transplant Network well over a decade ago. The live session will be at 10am Pacific time, 1pm eastern time, and 6:00pm UK time and 7:00 pm Belgium time. Please ask your questions here, and be sure to join to ask any other questions. He is an authority on FUE and wrote many of the FUE terms along with Dr. Jose Lorenzo.
  8. FUE performed on a 35-year old patient with • NW I-II • Donor density of 100 FU/cmÇ occipital, 86 FU/cmÇ parietal, 92 FU/cmÇ temporal • Hair diameter of ~ 52-58 microns Treatment plan Follicular Unit Extraction to attain an aesthetic reconstruction of the hairline. Performed procedure FUE (January 17, 2020) Follicular Unit Extraction with 2265 FU: * 350 single hair FU * 1341 double hair FU * 574 triple hair FU HGI: 2,1 Parallel incisions in custom-sized blades technique (Cutting Edge blades of 0,7-0,9 mm). Extraction performed by WAW-system with a 0.85 mm serrated trumpet punch. No microscopic preparation of the follicular unit grafts. Dr. Bijan Feriduni
  9. Don’t stress out. This can be fixed but you need to go to a top doctor who is experienced with repairs.@JohnAC71gave you a great list of doctors to consult with. I would really recommend Dr. Bisanga and Dr. Feriduni due to their experience with repairs. They may want to punch out some of those thick grafts in the front of your hairline before rebuilding it with finer hairs from your donor. Your donor area looks great in those pictures but it’s hard to judge if it’s damaged or not because the hair is long.
  10. Actually, I do not believe there is THE best, only the best for your case. Some great clinics are IMO (and I am sure I missed some) without any particular order: - Heitmann (for small Hairlines cases) - Hattingen (for Mega-FUT Sessions) - Feriduni (for larger FUE cases and consultation in general, which makes him great for non-standard cases excluding BHT ) - Ferreira (great bang for the buck) - Mwamba (for BHT and any repairs involving BHT) - Couto, Lorenzo and all the other spanish clincis (for diffuse thinners due to implanter pen -> Some would consider them the best in the world - Lupanzula (IMO fairly priced and under-appreciated) - Bisanga ... There are many more - Some would also mention Dr. Zarev for mega session FUE (but I need to see more results
  11. Hi all, Just posting to give an update for anyone who cares! 😛 I've finally decided on a surgeon and if everything goes well I should be having surgery with Dr. Bisanga towards the end of May! Excited! In my last post I said I had narrowed my choice down to either Dr. Feriduni or H&W, but after talking with Raphael84, reading patient stories, and my experience with the clinic so far , I feel confident in going with Bisanga. I'll check back in after having had the surgery hopefully. 🙂
  12. After 2 FUE’s ex domo with 3205 FU: 3 FUE’s performed on a 40-year old Caucasian male with • NW II-III • Donor density of 84 FU/cmÇ occipital, 80 FU/cmÇ parietal, 76 FU/cmÇ temporal • Hair diameter of ~ 44-54 microns Treatment plan 1. FUE to attain an aesthetic reconstruction of the frontal hairline. 2. FUE to attain an aesthetic reconstruction of the midhead and crown area. 3. FUE to optimize the density of the midhead and crown area. Performed procedures 1. FUE (September 16, 2019) Follicular Unit Extraction with 2810 FU 2. FUE (July 9, 2020) Follicular Unit Extraction with 1811 FU 3. FUE (March 22, 2021) Follicular Unit Extraction with 2804 FU Parallel incisions in custom-sized blades technique (Cutting Edge blades of 0,85-0,95 mm). Extraction performed by WAW-system with a 0.90 mm serrated trumpet punch. No microscopic preparation of the follicular unit grafts. Dr. Bijan Feriduni
  13. The posts in this forum and on german Alopezie-Forum have helped me a lot to inform myself about hair transplants, so I would like to give something back with my report. It is the final result of my surgery in 2019, the numerous aborted reports have annoyed me a lot during my research Meanwhile I have the second part of my treatment (top of the head and crown) behind me, the report will follow in about a year. About me: 37 years old no medication very fine hair loss partly diffuse family history: all men NW5, but no NW6-7 up to the age of 75 estimated grafts needed: 4.500 estimated donor approx. 6.000 grafts + 1.500 beard So all in all not the best prerequisites. I still decided to take the risk of a hair transplant because baldness looks extremely unflattering on my large head with very light skin. Germany has not been a good choice for hair transplantations for several reasons. It is more a less a consensus on german forums to got to Belgium, Turkey or Switzerland. I originally wanted to have the surgery done by Dr. Feriduni, but the price for the complete treatment would have been in the 20,000 € range, so I looked for alternatives. I came across Dr. Ayoub through Alopezie-Forum, he started his own clinic in 2018 or 2019. The fact that he worked for Feriduni for a short time also played a role for considerung him. The available pictures of his work looked very natural and clean and in conversation he seemed very relaxed and had answers to my numerous detailed questions. Dr Ayoubs clinic is located in Duesseldorf-Ratingen. It is close to Cologne and the Airport Duesseldorf. Surgery: Just a few quick bullet points: 2,000 grafts 0,8mm Trumpet Punch Motorized harvesting with Trivellini Mamba (according to Dr. Ayoub he always preferred manual extraction, but this system is at least equivalent) Extraction: 100% Dr. Ayoub Slits: 100% Dr. Ayoub Insertion (Implanter Pen): about 50% Dr. Ayoub (now he does more like 30% himself) Aftercare: Dr. Ayoub did a very clean job, there was no sign of the surgery on my donor after 2 weeks. This seems to be normal with him, as you can see from the other reports at Alopezie-Forum. I had minimal shockloss over one ear, but it went away quickly. I had problems with the nerve healing in the donor, that gave me some painful nights about 5-10 days post surgery. It seems to be a rare hypersensitivity, I read a statement about it by BHR Clinic. The growth of new hair started after about 4 months and by month 6-7 I was close to the final result. My hair grows quite fast in general, maybe that plays a role. Conclusion: Considering my poor prerequisites, the result exceeded my expectations. The hairline looks very natural, even my hairdresser wanted the address of the clinic for her clients. Her son went to a hairmill in Turkey and it looks very artificial. Nevertheless, you should be aware that HT is always an illusion, for example, it would not look 100% dense if I styled the hair with a lot of gel. The approach is very conservative. I would have liked it even better if the hairline was set a centimeter lower and the temple points were re-formed. However, I decided against it to keep more grafts as a reserve in the long run. In general, it's a nice feeling that I don't have to think about how my hair lies at all. I have also been told by several people that I look younger and healthier. I highly recommend Dr. Ayoub. The 2019 price was so cheap that I was almost embarrassed (1 € / Graft) However, it is now higher and more reasonable, about 1.40-1.50 € / graft. This is still very cheap, considering that he only treats 2 patients per week. A few compromises must be made for the price, the Dr also does many administrative tasks alone, accordingly, not everything is top organized. The practice is clean, but not nearly as nice as Feriduni's for example. I don't really care, what counts for me is the growth rate, naturalness and the gentle treatment of the donor, and I am absolutely satisfied.
  14. Thank you all - I really appreciate your inputs, truly. It goes to show what a collaborative and helpful community this forum is. @Gasthoerer Personally I don’t feel comfortable enough to post pictures on here, largely down to my own insecurities, albeit I know it would be way more informative for you all to advise if I did. My hair loss isn’t awful, there is recession in the temples and the rest of my hair seems ok. There’s potentially some thinning of the crown but no noticeable loss, I look forward to seeing what Dr. Reddy says after his initial examination. It has been a long and timely search for the best part of a year, if not longer. I feel like I have researched every leading surgeon under the sun, and ultimately it boils down to looking at the results they have posted, client testimonials, and watching their interviews (where they have one) to get a sense of their approach/personality etc. @Melvin-Moderator your interview with Dr. Reddy was so informative, thanks again for posting it. I am fully aware that no surgeon will ever post their less successful results, but that is something that applies across the board. A surgeon’s attitude towards preventative medication is an important factor for me as well, as I would like someone to hear me out and discuss my genuine concerns surrounding Finasteride, rather than stating it’s an absolute must from the offset. I am not completely opposed to the idea, but I would prefer an open and objective dialogue on the topic (Feriduni was excellent on this as he genuinely took my concerns into account and recommended I don’t take anything for now). I know most top surgeons are willing to have that conversation, but I had a few applications rejected purely for stating that I am not on Fin or Min. After loads of research and a number of applications to get a sense of who’s out there and what they have to offer, I narrowed down a shortlist to Lorenzo, H&W, Feriduni & Reddy. I personally believe those doctors are leading when it comes to FUE in general and I didn’t want to overpopulate my list and confuse my decision more than it needs to be. It is worth noting, I am aware of many other top surgeons that are out there (e.g. Lupanzula, Freitas, Konior, Bisanga, Erdogan etc.). I personally felt comfortable with the shortlist I compiled purely off the back of my subjective view and research. The other examples do seem very credible for anyone else reading this post and considering a HT procedure in the future. As @Melvin-Moderator mentioned earlier, location is important. Whilst it’s not a dealbreaker, to think there is a doctor you can easily visit over the next 5 years+ to discuss and manage the longer term hair loss strategy is extremely valuable, more so than the procedure itself. In this current climate, I also think there is value in having an initial consultation in person and potentially a few months before you undergo surgery as opposed to an initial Zoom call and a consultation the day before your procedure. I know a procedure in the UK with a leading surgeon is more expensive than the likes of Spain and Belgium, but my view is it’s worth the added money (if you’re budget allows) given the above. I’ve never met Dr. Reddy but he clearly is a leading surgeon in the field of FUE who is meticulous with his procedures, down to the finest details and has a wealth of experience behind him. I was a big fan of Feriduni from my Zoom consultation and we did ‘click’, however I am looking for a procedure where the surgeon is more involved end to end given the attention to detail that is required at every phase. It’s worth mentioning and I do understand that Feriduni’s team of technicians are highly experienced and I have no doubt they would achieve a great result for me, however weighing it all up, I’d rather a surgeon who is local and as involved as he can be. It’s also worth mentioning the whole Feriduni team were fantastic when it came to responding to emails and taking calls, and were overall a pleasure to deal with. Lorenzo rejected my application straight off the bat as I’m not currently taking Fin (and took ages to respond). I was impressed by H&W, but my decision not to proceed boiled down to the long distance and I do believe there’s parity in the quality of surgeons in Europe. @Gasthoerer you hit the nail on the head, with all hours/days of research one does, ‘gut feel’ is certainly an important indicator. I hope that has been informative and thank you all again for your time and advice.
  15. Really great video Melvin, and so informative. I am currently torn between Reddy and Feriduni for hairline restoration surgery (my temples have receded). My main concern with Feriduni is his lack of involvement in the procedure, as opposed to Reddy. For some reason I also get a better sense from Reddy's results vs Feriduni's, but that is subjective of course as I know how highly rated Feriduni is. I am aware that Reddy is more expensive, but I am more bothered about the result than the price. Any thoughts or advice on what route I should take would be greatly appreciated to help me make my decision - I have already had my consultation with Dr. Feriduni. Many thanks in advance
  16. I would recommend consulting with a few doctors in Europe, Dr. Bisanga, Dr. Feriduni, Dr. De Freitas, Dr. Devroye just to name a few. Take a look at our full list of recommendations. It doesn't hurt to send a lot of virtual consultations to get a general consensus. You can narrow down the list by region like UK, Belgium, Spain, etc. https://www.hairtransplantnetwork.com/Consult-a-Physician/hair-transplant-surgeons.asp?sr=HRN
  17. Germany is really not a good choice for Hair transplantations. The quality doctors we have work in other countries (Feriduni, Heitmann). The german clinics have mostly bad surgeons or they offer a big variety of surgeries and for hair transplantations they just fly in a random team from turkey. The only recommendable Dr. from Germany is Dr. Ayoub in Duesseldorf (Focus Hairtrans). His results on german Alopezie Forum are pretty good.
  18. Yeah, I don't say this lightly since many people might feed you this on the forum. But, 99,9% of people would have no idea you were balding. I can see what you mean, but your hairline is natural, your curly hair suits not being super dense. The only "tell tale" right now is the tinning crown. Have you tried derma-rolling, or laser cap? You are diffuse, but have so much hair, that you just need another minoxidil-like product to kick up the density. I am having surgery with Dr. BF in two weeks, and I spoke to Feriduni 5+ years ago like you. When Feriduni turned me away for the same reasons, I definitely had less density than you do now. I still think Dr. F is a top, ethical doctor, and he had a good point, we are/were not good candidates. I have significantly more recession and more thinning than you now, 10 years later, so it is the right time for me to go that route.
  19. Hello All, I have been an avid reader of this forum for several years now and want to thank Melvin and the members whom have made me feel very informed on the process due to sharing their experiences. I finally decided to get a FUE HT last year and I contacted Konior, Shapiro, Feriduni, Hasson and Bauman. I did not care for Shapiro and Baumans sales people. Feriduni never replied and Hassons sales person was very helpful and informative however Konior replied to me directly which I found important to me. As such I thought the best doctor for me would Konior in Chicago. Tbh I found his work to be the most natural looking. I also like that he does most of the work himself and uses techs minimally. However, covid hit a week after my decision and everything fell on the back burner. I recently reached out to Konior and he said he is booked till March 2021. However Dr. Nadimi in his office and appears to have trained under Konior would be available in half the time. Konior suggested 2500 grafts at $12 each and Nadimi 3000 grafts at $8 each. Is it worth waiting the extra 6 months to have the HT with Dr. Konior or are Nadimi’s results on par with Konior? After all she trained under him. I mention the pice difference but I am not motivated by that. I want the best result.
  20. I’ve spoken to this doctor and his partner Dr. Vara, but I haven’t seen any reviews. So I can’t say for sure. Definitely check out Feriduni as well, he’s an excellent option. Remember lists and names are just starting points for research.
  21. Sounds like you’re in the UK, if so definitely check out Dr. Arshad and Dr. Reddy. They are both excellent doctors with consistency. https://www.hairtransplantnetwork.com/Consult-a-Physician/surgeon-list/UK/United Kingdom Here are some other options in Europe Dr. De Freitas in Spain. https://www.hairtransplantnetwork.com/Consult-a-Physician/surgeon-list/ESP/Spain Feriduni and Bisanga in Belgium https://www.hairtransplantnetwork.com/Consult-a-Physician/surgeon-list/BEL/Belgium My suggestion is to consult with many. Personally, I feel Europe has a lot of talent now, and is on par with the US.
  22. It goes a little off-topic. No one is a magician 😉 Feriduni also offers FUT, therefore he also has microscopes. - During FUT the team uses the microscopes to select between fine singles, singles and multies & during trimming of the grafts - During FUE the team uses the microscopes only to select between fine singles, singles and multies, No trimming required This topics is discussed in great detail here: Case performed by Dr. Feriduni – 4374 FU in 2 procedures - Results Posted by Leading Hair Restoration Clinics - Hair Restoration Network - Community For and By Hair Loss Patients
  23. Is that a microscope? I thought Dr. Feriduni didn't use a microscope
  24. Dr. Arshad charges 3 pounds per graft in the UK. The only clinics worth going to in Turkey charge 2.70. Plus flight, time, accommodations. Very, very, very few doctors perform FUT in Europe period. Feriduni, bisanga, and Arshad. FUT in Turkey is unheard of.
  25. Hello guys, tl:dr; First surgeon completely botched the transplant and butchered my donor. I am looking for top hairline repair work and will consider SMP for donor down the line. Budget is 16000$ After having my donor and hairline butchered by my first surgeon (who was an extremely unethical surgeon), I am planning to undergo hairline repair. I have about 20000$ in my bank a/c and I willing to spend it all on a repair procedure (Yeah, that's how desperate I am for repair). Assuming about 4000$ in travel and stay expenses, I would have 16000$ left for the procedure itself. My goal is to get my unnatural hairline repaired. I will consider SMP for donor few years down the line. Given my extremely horrid experience with my first surgeon, I am extremely scared and therefore only considering top surgeons for repair and want a top-notch hairline work. My list for is as follows: 1) Hasson and Wong - the best but expensive 2) Dr. Feriduni - I've seen his repair work on this forum and I've been extremely impressed by his stellar work. Although, I don't know how much he charges. 3) Dr. Bruno Ferreira - Based on @Rolandas's experience I like his work but I don't know if he does repair work and how well he does it. Please share your suggestions. I am attaching pictures of my butchered donor in the next post.
