Advice for Hair Loss Sufferers Considering Hair Transplant Surgery

My Story

  1. Dr. Feriduni does excellent FUT work. He's a good choice. Dr. Devorye is also an excellent choice. Dr. Chris Bisanga is also excellent. All produce jaw dropping FUT results ON A CONSISTENT basis over many years. I'm sure I'm missing a few, but these Drs come to mind immediately.
  2. Thank you so much for your reply and also for your experiences you made with Dr. Feriduni and his staff, PJFS. Great to hear you're happy with your result after one year. Sure I would like to see pics of your HT.
  3. Make sure you have these written down and any other questions you can think of. Also if at all possible take someone with you you trust as your emotions will be running high and its easy to forget to ask the relevant questions. 1.What kind of procedures do you perform does the clinic perform ie. Strip, FUE , BHT - if so for how long and ask to see results and be put in touch with actual patients. 2. What type of donor closure does the hair transplant surgeon use? Does he use sutures or staples, and why does he use his chosen technique? What type and size of instruments does the hair transplant doctor use to make recipient incisions? 3.What is the length of time that this hair transplant physician has been performing hair transplant surgery?Ask about his credentials and experience and governing bodies he /she are assosiated with. 4. How many hair transplant technicians are employeed with their clinic? What is the length of time each hair technician has worked for the clinic? 5. Ask if you are a good candidate and ask for an explanation to why? Ask to see similar comparisons. 6. What is the state of your donor region and how many grafts does the doc feel can be safely harvested in one session and via multiple surgeries / methods? 7. Gain an estimate of how many grafts you require now and also how many are likely to be required in the futured based on your goal. 8. How good your donor laxity and how you can improve this prior to surgery IF required. can they demonstrate 9. Make sure you discuss YOUR exact goals (hairline, temples, forelock, crown, hair density, hair coverage, etc) 10. Ask how many grafts the doctor will use in your balding area 11.Ask if your goals are reasonable and if they can be met with your hair characterisitcs. 12. Establish how suitable you are for a HT in their opinon. 13. Very importantly ask if you can meet or talk to previous patients in similar circumstances to yourself. Also ask to see testimonials and plenty of photos. 14.Ask about costs involved eg. prices of consults(if applicable), amounts per graft and additional aftercare, medications etc as most clinics vary from some degree and its good to know exactly where you stand! 15. Can I get a reduced fee for short notice surgery? Travel reimbursement?and ask how long their wating list is. 16. Discuss medications such as propecia and finasteride to help prevent further loss. Ask if they can perscribe? 17. Does this hair transplant clinic dissect hair grafts from the strip using a microscope? 18. Ask about post op and pre op instructions. Can you have a list (hardcopy) 19. Can you record the entire consultation? If no, walk out. 20. Have they had any HT surgery? If so who with? Red flags "Just had a cancellation and we can see you next week." 4. FUT performed on a 26 year old African female patient with: - Donor density of ca. 72 FU/cm2 in the temporal donor region and 76 FU/cm2 in the parietal donor region - Hair diameter of ca. 52-56 microns - Hair loss due to a burning injury in her childhood - Her health insurance didn’t cover the costs of a reconstructive surgery so she became a ‘foundation’ patient Treatment plan: Follicular Unit Strip Transplantation with 1800-2000 FU to restore and fill in the burn marks. Performed procedure (January, 19th 2016): A Follicular Unit Strip Transplantation with 2377 FU * 514 single hair FU * 1461 double hair FU * 402 triple hair FU Donor closing in 1mm lower edge Trichophytic Closure technique; Parallel and perpendicular incisions (single, double and triple hair units) were made in custom-sized blades technique (~Cutting Edge blades of 0.7mm – 1mm); Density of 30-50 FU/cm2 in the hairline and feather zone (single units), a density of 40-45 FU/cm2 in the density zone (double and triple units). Dr. B. Feriduni
  5. Yes, that was important for me. I decided for Dr. Feriduni because of his excellent results, especially for the frontal hairline. I had personal consultation in May 2016 in Belgium and the final op than in November 2016. But already in December 2015 I fixed the op date for November 16. After my visit at the doctor and meeting himself I had no doubt for right decision. Of course Dr. Feriduni is more expensive than traveling to a doctor in Tukey but I think the money is worth it. In my opinion he is one of the best doctors like Ron Shapiro and Hasson & Wong The wait time is about one year I hink.
  6. I think if you're still in North America and the EU then this is fine as they have as high, if not higher, standards than the UK. This only becomes an issue when you go into the 3rd world and there is no/loose/poorly implemented regulation. I was reluctant to go to Turkey (and had outright dismissed it as an option) but Dr. Keser uses manual tools, does his own work (i.e. doesn't have technicians doing half of the procedure) has a great reputation, his hairlines are amazing and is very cheap. Flights from continental Europe to Turkey are cheap at about 130 euros return so it can't hurt to at least have a chat with him (that's my rationale anyway). The others, if you're interested, are Drs. Feriduni and Lupanzula, both based in Belgium.
  7. And in saying all that Dr. Feller has consistently put out great information for anyone interested in transplants and creates great results himself. Ultimately FUE is better in Europe because wages are lower and techs and doctors end up with more experience with it. I appreciate how this would upset American doctors who cannot compete, and that Feller is also invaluable at leading people not to go to chop shops and look at results from forum goers and learn about the procedures but that doesn't make his criticisms of FUE accurate. I invite EVERYONE to compare the FUE cases on the forums for everyone to see of Dr Feller and compare them to the results of Dr. Keser, Dr Erdogan, and Dr. Feriduni. See for yourself who is getting the better results. Then compare the Feller FUT cases to the FUE cases of doctors I mentioned. No assertions from myself here, but see what you think.
  8. Another thing I would mention is that whenever I see others bring up the results of master European FUE surgeons such as Erdogan, Lorenzo, Lupanzula and Feriduni to Dr. Feller this in particular sets him off. He loves to outright lie and say "no one is producing great FUE megassessions" but when evidence to the contrary is provided, he will outright no respond to it and NEVER mention European doctors by name, most likely because he fears them. This is an issue I have seen with Dr. Rassman on the Reddit forums too, when he outright claimed to not know who Dr. Erdogan (Vice president of World FUE institute) or Dr. Lorenzo (Head of the World FUE institute) were. This is a blatant lie and just oozes fear for doctors who are providing a better FUE service for a lower cost than any American doctor so attain Voldemort status and must not be named. The evidence is clear that FUT is the better procedure for long term management of the donor area, however it would be nice to stop lying about yields and acknowledge good results of great European FUE surgeons, (and actually admit to knowing who they are and mentioning their name) We all know they're taking clients away from American surgeons, but the fact is they're doing a better job (for half the price or less), and the first step for American surgeons to get some of these patients back is to admit they aren't as skilled and refine their procedure, or perhaps go to Europe and learn from the masters.
  9. hi all, my name is Rahul and i am from India. I have had 2 Hair Transplants Till Now. Both in India, with different doctors. First HT = FUT 2000 Grafts. Second HT = FUE 3000 Grafts (Grafts count, both time, as said by the doctors, but in India they are not ethical, and say something else, and do something else) Now, My Whole STORY : I have had 2 HT's till now and my age right now is 27 and a half. I know this age is too early to have 2 Ht's but i was totally naive and less educated. Plus you feel the anxiety to have an HT when your hair starts loosing rapidly, which happened with me. My first HT was FUT, to make the receded hairline come back to normal ( to make the hairline ). It looked fine to begin with, but within 2 years when the hair on the back of the hairline started thinning more and i was left with the transplanted hairline in the front, it became very evident that the Doctor who performed my HT was terrible, as he had Transplanted a totally unnatural Hairline with the temples way too ahead and that looked very awkward. The doctor's Name was Dr. Amit Gupta from Advance Hair Studio, Mumbai, India. At this point i would like to tell you all that never have any hair treatment at Advanced Hair Studios ( AHS ). They are only good in advertisements, not at all good in hair treatments. And to top it over, Dr. Amit Gupta is terrible, He does not at all thinks about the possible outcomes a young person can have due to a bad HT. These people are only interested in money. Okay, so now i was 25, and i was having a totally UN-natural hairline and an FUT Strip Scar. And to top it over my crown hair started falling too. I felt restless and i wanted another HT. Also i want to let you know that i am an actor by profession, so for me, having good hair was important, otherwise i could have waited for another hair transplant. I used Toppik to survive, it helped me fine. But i decided not now. I wanted a good Ht now. I had work to pursue and that requires me to be looking good with a healthy mop of hair, Genuine Hair. So, i decided, i am going to have another HT. My motive this time was to : 1. have density in the hairline and to make it look natural 2. to correct the temples 3. also to fill in the crown I searched online and youtube, and i found one Dr. Gaurang Krishna, of Medlinks, New Delhi, India, whose work i liked. So, i went ahead and did a consultation with him. I told him about everything i wanted to achieve by this HT. He said okay, he will : 1. Give density and correct/repair the previous HT (only the hairline) to make it look natural. 2. he said he cannot correct the temples, and let it be that way. 3. for the crown, he said to wait for more 3 to 4 years as there is a chance of more hair fall there. And by the time he will give me PRP sessions to try to make my crown hair come back Now, i was in doubt, to do the HT or not, this time it was going to be a FUE procedure. After thinking for some time i went ahead with him as i thought atleast the hairline would be natural and have more density, and i can use toppik at the crown till the PRP Sessions work. It all made sense to me at that time (and i regret that today, as in the heat of things and in anxiety to make things better i forgot that the donor is limited, i got to give it at a doctors hand who is the best in the business and can fix all the things, atleast could have fixed my temples, if not the crown ). So, he did the FUE HT and i was on a waiting period then, to finish the 12 months and let the hair grow to see the final outcome. In this time i started other work / other than acting and thought after i grow hair i would be back at it, as that was my forte. The only good thing within this time was that my other work flourished and it helped me keep off the tensions related to my hair! Now 12-13 months passed, and the results of the latest FUE surgery were there, which i can see, but to my bad luck, it was not good, and not as i thought. What result i got : 1. Density was not as good as i wanted. Natural hairline was still not attained, the doctor only filled up as much he could in directionless manner. So, it was still very unnatural, with very less density. 2. temples were as decided, left alone, adding to the UN-naturalness appearance. 3. i had 3 PRP sessions, but they didn't work. I guess they did not know how to prepare a PRP in the first place, as if it would have been done correctly , some or the other benefits i would have gotten. But Nothing i got! Again i would say, Indian HT standards are way below the world. 4. The worst thing about this procedure was loosing some more hair from my Donor Area, which i might have used better if given those to an experienced surgeon. So, Now, what next, as i am, as on 19 April 2017, about to be 27 and a half years old, and i have an acting career to pursue. I also have some very good Film offers lined up from 2017 end and so much more Acting work which i can do. Till now, in my successful previous time at acting, before the 2nd HT (FUE, 2 YEARS BACK) i have managed to show good hair on camera, either by using Toppik, or by using partial Hair Systems. But Now i don't want to fake. I have researched a lot in this time and i have found answers to my questions. Mainly because of these online forums such as hairrestorationnetwork.com or baldtruthtalk.com etc and i am fully aware of what can be done. Also, in these last 2 years i have made friends with some of the Top actors here, and many of them have an HT, So natural, So good looking, Now i know that GOOD HAIR TRANSPLANTS can be achieved (but not in India). And after asking them, that how have they done it, all of them said that they have had an HT in U.S.A or in Europe. This was the affirmation i wanted, and i have it now. From the Last 4 months i have been in contact with some of the best HT Surgeons Offices in U.S.A and Europe and i have finally decided to have a 3rd HT and this time not to regret. The best part till now in my case, as i see is that i still have a good donor area and my hair has stopped falling( thanks to using Finasteride and Biotin, and healthy lifestyle habits {No smoking, eating well etc } ). I have decided on Doctor Bijan Feriduni, and at this point i totally think that he is among the best in the world. And i also have an HT Appointment in June from him. So, i'd be going to Belgium for the 3rd HT and i am super excited. Shall keep you posted with my Hair pics and the procedure.
  10. *I am currently one year out from having surgery with Dr. Konior of Oakbrook Illinois. My laptop crashed so bear with me on this post as I will be pulling pics from my phone and adding them as we go. Brief Background: 53 years old, very fine blonde hair. I had 2 strip surgeries back in the bad old days of hair transplantation in the 90's. These two failed procedures left me with a horrible moth eaten look on top, pitting, and two stacked strip scars in the back. I consider those two surgeries to be the worst two life decisions I've made. My Pros and Cons going into the procedure: Pros: Blonde hair which minimizes the scalp/skin contrast. Realistic expectations, I realized that I will never have a full head of hair/hairline. I just wanted to get back to a normal looking appearance where I didn't feel that people I would meet would have their gaze shift up to my hairline. Cons: Badly depleted donor area, very fine textured hair. My decision to choose Dr. Konior was literally years in the making, as I was determined not to make a bad decision again, and I am really grateful that this forum existed or I would never have found out about him. I had been following his career/cases for a number of years and was always impressed by the precision of his work, and his ownership of his practice/procedures. He is a boss without a doubt. Other surgeons I was considering were Dr. Ron Shapiro, Dr. Lorenzo, Dr. Hasson, and Dr. Feriduni. I realized that I had one of the best surgeons in the world in my backyard (I'm in Chicago) so the choice was made. After consulting with Dr. Konior it was decided that FUE would be the safest and most practical way to attempt a repair. My scalp laxity was tight and the thought of doing another strip and the scar stretching was just too much of a risk. I'd like to thank Dr. Konior for being so gracious with his time and correspondence leading up to my procedure, he always answered my e-mails and phone calls right away and is clearly engaged and accessible to his patients. The procedure was basically finished on the first day but I came back the next morning for some fine tuning and to have the beard hair grafts done. Dr. Konior wanted to get more beard hairs into my scars but I was just squirming around in the chair too much for some reason, so we stopped at 150. I might go back for more at a later date. I was driven to and from the hotel, things went very smoothly. I arrived the night before the procedure was to be done and got shaved at the office and Dr. Konior drew in the hairline so we could hit the ground running the next day. Pics to follow...
  11. thank you for reply, I had a consult with Dr.Hakan Doganay, Koray Erdogan, Rahal, Yaman, Karadeniz, Keser, Feriduni and pending Bisanga. I was more concerned about vertex and crown area, not sure how it will look like if I get 50% on top and back, 50% for front and hairline. And I'm deciding between Dr.Rahal and Dr.Yaman
  12. Impossible to say how your hair will look by December. As has already been mentioned, some guys grow quickly while others more slowly. You may have a decent looking hairline by your weeding but it's not a given. On the upside, Dr. Feriduni does excellent work. I'm sure you'll be happy with the outcome.
  13. Dr. Feriduni, Very impressive example of your work and results as always. Keep up the great work. Best wishes, Bill
  14. FUE performed on a 37 year old Caucasian male with: - NW II Class T - Donor density of 72 FU/cm2 in the temporal donor region and 88 FU/cm2 in the parietal donor region - Hair diameter of ~60-74 µm - ‘Wrong-placed’ transplants and linear scar from a previous procedure in 2010 (ex domo) Treatment plan: - 1st FUE treatment with 2400-2800 FU to reconstruct the entire hairline - 2nd FUE treatment with 300-500 FU to fill in the existing linear scar Performed procedures: 1st Treatment (April 27th, 2015) A Follicular Unit Extraction with 1744 FU * 640 single hair FU * 1104 double hair FU * No triple hair FU Ʃ: 1744 FU Extraction performed with a 0.85mm FUE punch with CIT Manual Punch Handle. No microscopic preparation of the follicular unit grafts (FUE); Parallel incisions (single, double and triple units) were made in custom-sized blades technique (~Cutting Edge blades of 0.8mm – 0.85mm) 2nd Treatment (February 4th, 2016) A Follicular Unit Extraction with 310 FU * 100 single hair FU * 210 double hair FU * No triple hair FU Ʃ: 310 FU Extraction performed with a 0.85mm FUE punch with CIT Manual Punch Handle. No microscopic preparation of the follicular unit grafts (FUE); Parallel incisions (single, double and triple units) were made in custom-sized blades technique (~Cutting Edge blades of 0.8mm – 0.85mm) Dr. Bijan Feriduni
  15. The reason I decided for an unshaven FUT instead of a FUE with Dr. Feriduni was to go back to work after two weeks without anyone taken notice I had a hair transplant. Fortunately this is what happened.
  16. Vespa74, Dr. Feriduni is a class act and has a long, outstanding history of performing advanced hair transplant surgery with excellent results. I'm honestly very surprised to hear that you aren't happy and are referring to your hairline as a "thick strip of hair" with no growth behind. To be fair however, we ask that you present photos showing multiple angles of your scalp before surgery and today. We also ask that you post any pictures of your scalp immediately after surgery if you have them. We will be notifying Dr. Feriduni about this topic so that he may respond to your concerns. We ask that you contact us privately at help@hairtransplantnetwork.com and provide us with your full name and date of surgery. Your identifying information will not be made public. But you will need to provide Dr. Feriduni with the necessary permission he needs to respond to your concerns. This includes presenting photos if he needs to. Best wishes, Bill
  17. This is a tricky question because everyone's goals, budget and preferences are different including whether they want an aggressive or conservative approach, location and logistic factors, pricing, tech-centric or doctor-centric clinics etc. If we're talking worldwide, Dr. Couto, Lorenzo, Bisanga and Erdogan (add Feriduni in there too) are among the best in Europe. Dr. Konior, Diep and Vories are the top ones in N. America. That at least should be a starting point to begin your research. You can narrow it down from there.
  18. You state that you think you may be completely bald in 2-3 years. Dr. Feriduni may have an excellent point. If you have surgery now and lose lots of your existing hair, the transplant may not look successful. I'm sorry you're in that situation. Maybe take a look at pictures of yourself from previous years and estimate the hair loss. Everyone is different but my hair loss stabilized in my early 30's. Best of luck. We just don't want you to spend thousands of dollars and not be happy in a couple years.
  19. Here is the try of my wife to photograph the scar. It is absolutely unvisible. Thanks to Dr. Feriduni for the excellent work. Even my hairdresser did not recognize 4 weeks ago that I had a hair transplant.
  20. My skin laxity was quiet good, so Dr. Feriduni was able to harvest 4000 + grafts in one procedure. I wanted as much coverage as possible in only one procedure. If I had gone for FUE the first step had been to restore the frontal and mid area with about 2500 grafts and then nearly one year later to fill in the crown with nearly 1500 grafts. Because I will not wear my hair extremely short in the future I' m not afraid of the scar that already healed very well and is quiet not visible yet.
  21. Hello, I would like to share with you my first hair transplant in the age of 43. I recognized loosing my hair at the beginning of entering 30 years. At the end of 2015 I decided to have a hair transplant and after visiting and viewing inside several forums about Reputations and experiences about several surgeons I decided to choose Dr. Feriduni in Belgium. November 2016 was then the month having a Fut strip surgery with 4242 grafts harvested from my donor and hope the upcoming result is changing my life. Please feel free to comment your opinions. Cheers Hasselt;)
  22. Thanks for your input I'm still doing a thorough research but my final list consist of Dr. Bisanga Dr. Feriduni Dr. Erdogan Dr. Keser Dr. De Rey Dr. Doganay Dr. Lorenzo Any comments to any of these guys?

  24. Hi hairshopeing, yes, Dr. Feriduni performed 50% of the extractions. His technicians are very skilled, too. I think one of his strength is his experienced team. They are not anonymous, but also presented on his website. The guesthouse has just been offered recently, I think. As I could travel by car I took some beverages and food with me for my stay. There is a fully equipped kitchen inside for cooking. There is also a nice little garden attached.
  25. I really like reading this website and as I found many posts regarding lack of patient reviews for Dr. Feriduni I am pleased to be able to offer you some insight. Congrats man glad someone finally posted a patient experience from Feriduni after a long while lol The work looks clean and refined (would like to see some graft placement pics if possible) and should make for a great result.
