  1. Dr. Arocha and his team performed a 1200 FUT on this African American female patient. The results were taken 7 years after her initial procedure. The hairline and the temples were very thin prior to her transplant, leaving her with limited styling options. Now, 7 years post transplant, she has different styling options for her hair. 2. This patient decided to undergo hair restoration to fill in his hairline. This patient chose not to take Propecia prior to his procedure, but has since begun taking Propecia. He underwent a 1800 FUE procedure with Dr. Arocha and team. The after images were taken 10 months after his procedure! 3. Bill, Please see the updated images that were posted last Thursday, August 15. Dr. Arocha took the updated images with this Network in mind. The hair is pushed back and combed in these new photos.
  4. I didn’t notice an indent in the back of my scalp but if it’s been two weeks your scar should be good to go and the sutures could come out. Are you in the area to go see Dr. Arocha to get them removed? If not a general practitioner can remove them. I would definitely get them removed. While they aren’t hurting anything being in there once you hit that two week mark your scar is secure. The relief of them being out is really truly wonderful. Lol I had dissolvable sutures as well. I had knots starting to loosen around the 10 day mark but they didn’t cause any discernible difference in how my scar felt. Try sending Eduardo some pics to show the doctor if you are able to. If it really bothers you. Peace of mind is extremely important in these early days. I had a small infection early on so I had some bumps but the doc just gave me some antibiotics and they cleared up in a week. I’m only a few hours away from him, though.
  5. Hello all, I finally bit the bullet. To give everyone a rundown I’m 39 years old this year. I live out of Austin, TX but I’m from closer to the Houston area. I started thinning when I was 18 and I tried everything to slow down the process, admittedly without a lot of knowledge back then. This was 1998 and I didn’t know much about propecia or minoxidil. I tried shampoos and all kinds of gimmicks. I did try propecia and minoxidil liquid but because I didn’t know enough about it and didn’t see immediate results I just stopped and got on with my life. It all started in my crown and then over the course of a decade marched its way forward toward my hairline. While my crown was very noticeably thin my hairline and frontal third stayed noticeably strong until my mid to semi late 20’s. At 24 I went and had my first consultation at a Bosley clinic in Houston and the whole experience made me feel uneasy. The doctor wasn’t really concerned with my crown which is where all the thinning was happening and wanted to lower my hairline which was still a teenage hairline. It was less than four fingers down on my forehead and still really thick. Ah, how I miss that wall of hair... lol. I politely passed but they called me every single day for two years straight trying to get me to come in for the transplant. They wanted to charge me 20K to lower my hairline and sprinkle some grafts in the crown. Knowing what I know now I think back about how they didn’t even bother to mention propecia to help slow loss. Bullet. Dodged. I got married in 2010 which ended really badly very soon after and my hair really started to go after that. Around 2012 I went to Dr Brad Limmer and got on Propecia/biotin/minoxidil foam to slow things down. Sadly he passed away the next year almost to the day of my consultation with him. I’m an actor and I was staying in Houston with a friend in 2014 while filming a movie in Louisiana when someone mentioned Dr. Arocha. I scheduled a consultation and we immediately got on very well. I loved his attitude, how much knowledge he wanted to share, that he was very honest about what we could achieve. I was traveling a lot though and it just wasn’t the right time to pull the trigger. While I traveled around the states for jobs I would schedule consultations with other doctors. I spoke with Feller and Bloxham, Gabel, Hasson and Wong, and others-some through email, FaceTime, in person. Ultimately it came down to me feeling the most comfortable with Arocha although Gabel was pretty close. I’m a diffused thinner and if my father and maternal grandfather are any indication I’m going to end up a 6 on the Norwood’s scale. I was going to go ahead with the procedure last year but my wife (I got married again in 2017) and I found out we were pregnant with twins so I decided to wait until things settled down with them. Side note: I did not stop taking finasteride when we found out we were pregnant and our babies our beautiful and healthy and at the time of this post almost 6 months old. The Big Day! I got to Arocha’s office a little after 7:30 am (traffic in Houston sucks) I signed the paperwork. We took some preop pics. Dr Arocha designed the hairline basically within my existing one. The plan was to work through the existing hairline, fill in the temple corner recession, and bulk up the frontal forelock. We discussed what we would do next year, reassess the front or go ahead and work on the crown. Everybody was really nice. I was visibly nervous and my blood pressure was a little high due to my being a little antsy. The Valium quickly helped out with that. When they were injecting the numbing solution into the back of my scalp I noticed I started shaking and feeling queasy so I spoke up immediately. They turned me over and raised my legs and put ice on my chest. I almost immediately felt better. Dr Arocha was there and cracked a joke about how I was his first patient of the day but probably his 7000th patient altogether so there was really nothing to worry about. TBH I wasn’t nervous about his ability to help me as much as I was just nervous about this giant step I was taking. After this procedure there was no going back. I turned back over when I was ready and they took the strip out. They kept complementing me on how good my donor was however I never got a number from them. I asked but they were just like, “don’t worry, it’s really really good.” I believe I heard say as they were looking at it that it looked like 80 to 90. Dr Arocha started to make the incisions and we talked for awhile before I dozed off and the next thing I know is I’m waking up to salmon kabobs, a killer salad, and potato and black bean soup. I eat up and then I go back to the chair where the techs start to insert the grafts. We chat for quite awhile. Dr Arocha was there for quite a bit of it as he would interject in our conversations. Every once in a while he would remind them about this or that concerning my grafts. I dozed off again and when I woke up we were basically done. They informed me that while I was out they put PRP all over my head. They went over cleaning instructions and we took some post op pics. My wife came in to pick me up and everyone came out to meet our twins. After that we were off and back to Austin. The ride back was pretty rough. There was a lot of pressure in my head and I got a pretty bad headache. Even with the pain pills. It didn’t even last the entire three hour drive though. I’m attaching some pics. Some preop through day two. I don’t have any pics with the design yet. I’m going to speak to Arocha’s office and see if I can get my hands on the hairline design.
  6. BACKGROUND I'm in my late 20s and started receding around the age of 18. my scalp is very light compared to my forehead. my natural hairline sat right on the line where the pigmentation changed color. (Pictured) I stalked these forums regularly but never posted until recently. I'm Latino with African/Italian ancestry, my hair grows straight for about .5cm before it curls over. I'm located in NY Moving Forward I consulted online or in person with various doctors that were recommended on these forums the likes of (Arocha, Bloxham, Diep, Vories, and Frank). after many Q&As with each I felt most comfortable with Dr.Arocha in Texas. I flew to TX on Thursday met him and the staff that same day we went over my loss and future strategies as well as design. He recommended a higher hairline than the one I received based on the rule of thirds which I understood but felt it wasn't near my original hairline. we agreed on a lower line (pictured) The Big Day After medications and local numbing was administer a strip was taken from back of the head – 3140 grafts were harvested. Dr. Arocha mentioned he was aiming for 40 grafts cm2 coverage and that my hair was straight at short length. He did the strip removal, stitching and incisions at recipient site. Technicians did the graft cutting and placement. The procedure was done on FRIDAY I was very pleased with the service. everyone from medical staff and administration were very welcoming and ensure I had an excellent operation. it was to such extent that Dr. Arocha came in on Saturday to review the post op and ensure things were okay. he even gave me a tour of the city in his personal car. he even had one staff member come in on Saturday - the same day as her son's birthday just in case some work was needed (thanks Michelle). On Sunday (Father’s Day) he called to check up on me. Again, I’m extremely pleased with the service. Has First week post op I had swelling which is normal which has gone down considerably between days 4-7. I have followed the post op instructions to the T. I have used the shampoo and bacitracin provided by the Doctor as per instructed no harsh touching and trickle water. I feel like the treatment and operation were world class and I’m inclined to use the doctor again Pictures posted include my original hairline, my baldness pattern, hairline design and post op results at day 5/6. Please contact for any questions I will maintain this thread with my progression. PLEASE FEEL FREE TO CONTACT WITH QUESTIONS
  7. I used to think this thread was interesting being it was a clinic result (i.e. showcase result) where a doctor demonstrated to the public his abilities as a HT doc and was NOT a patient complaining that they had undergone a medical procedure for what amounts to no discernible cosmetic difference. I now believe it has become more interesting in terms of the arguments put forward to support such a result; staggered work? A HT as a preventive measure against an unstable hairline when the patient wasn’t even taking fin before the procedure? The doctor has other good results and is nice? The doctor needs some help with his photography? While I am all for giving the benefit of the doubt (and 100% support Bill's suggestion that Dr. Arocha or one of the staff can explain this more fully), the doctor has been in the business for decades and very clearly has a backdrop and a lighting rig set up in order to showcase his results so it's not like he's not making an effort. Bizarre
  8. Guys, I agree that in this case, the after photos are not ideal and it would certainly be much better if pictures were taken with the hairline combed back so we could genuinely appreciate the results. But we also have to remember that Dr. Arocha has a long history of producing outstanding results and an excellent online reputation for being amongst the best. Therefore, there is no reason to think that anyone from the clinic Is trying to deceive. The truth is, many surgeons are hard pressed for help and try to do everything with only a few people helping them. Sure, they may have a number of technicians doing surgery, but when it comes to office management, many surgeons lack knowledgeable help to take and present outstanding photos along with other aspects of the business. Dr. Arocha has always been one of these people. In my opinion, He is an outstanding surgeon and one of the nicest, most genuine people you’ll ever meet. But it’s obvious that he needs a little help from someone knowledgeable about taking and presenting optimal photos. Once he does this, I’m sure we will truly be able to appreciate his outstanding results which I’m sure includes this one. Regarding the number of grafts, 1800 is a relatively small number and even though the area to cover is small, I trust that the patient met the appropriate conditions for a densely packed hairline. Perhaps Dr. Arocha or one of the staff can explain these conditions to address any concerns Best wishes, Bill
  9. Hey guys, I'm in the process of visiting with hair restoration doctors the next few weeks, and just wanted to get what has been the experience of other individuals with these doctors. I'm going to meet with Dr. Dan Mcgrath, Dr. Arocha, Dr. Puig, and Dr. Jezic. Thanks.
  10. I also have to push Dr Arocha. I had a procedure with him in April and at 4 months I’ve had some really nice gains. You can follow along with my progress if it helps at all. I do have some consultation experience with Dr McGrath and while he was nice enough I mostly spoke with his assistant, Steve. My objection to using him was that it felt like a really well put together sales pitch. They were a little pushy to try and get some work done with them after my consultation as well. The few guys who’ve had work done by him and have posted here on the forums have sought out repair work elsewhere. That’s not to say their results were bad-the hair that was transplanted mostly grew but it wasn’t really aesthetically appealing to look at. I know of Dr Puig. His practice is called Affordable Hair Transplants...Some people would say run away. All I can say is never choose a doctor based on what they charge per graft. Choose a doctor based on their results and choose them based on how many actual success stories come from their patients; how many patients of theirs would be willing to back up their chosen doctor-would they be potentially willing to meet with you? How has that doctor handled a situation where their patients were unhappy with their results? I’ve never heard of Dr. Jezic but I have to echo LaserCap: make sure you do your research and consult with as many doctors as you can. Look at their patients on their websites. Use the search tool at the top of the page and type in the doctor you’re interested in. Look at threads posted by patients of the doctor. Your donor is finite so choosing the right doctor, not just for you but just an all around good doctor, is key to getting the best result. Good luck.👍🏻
  11. You are in the right place by doing the research..... I've seen, first hand, the results of follow up patients during my time with Dr. Arocha. Not only artistic, but such advanced techniques he is able to achieve density in a single procedure. Very experienced. I would suggest you visit the ABHRS. This will give you a decent idea of the certification and credentialing of each of these doctors. Visit the websites of each. Look at results....It is always about results.
  12. This patient came to Dr. Arocha for a 2500 FUE procedure to enhance the hairline and frontal third and to increase density. The after images were taken one year, 4 months after his procedure. There are also some photos that were taken immediately post-op so you can see the donor area and where the grafts were placed. 13. Hair Transplant Sessions: 3 Grafts Implanted: 8700 Baldness Class: 6 Surgical Procedure: Follicular Unit Transplant (FUT/Strip) This gentleman in his 60s with NW 6 wanted to restore as much of the frontal to midscalp/crown area as possible. The head size was large so we performed three procedures: 1.) 4900+ FUT, and 2.) 2800+ FUT (one year later). The 3rd procedure was a 1000 FUE procedure (5 years after his first procedure). 14. Month 4! I’m seeing some nice progress. What’s interesting to note is that the pics I’m going to share are in harsh lighting that I’m creating myself. In softer light my current results look stellar already which is cool because most places I go (and work) have softer light. It’s interesting how from day to day I’m looking at my hair and then one day I look in the mirror and go, “oh...that’s better than yesterday.” Like it happened over night. My right side is still considerably thinner but I went in to the clinic that way. I also still have a ton of stubble that hasn’t taken off yet. The middle of my hairline still has some catching up to do. All in good time, I guess. I have to call Dr. Arocha’s office to schedule my four month check up and when I do I’m going to ask for something to help with the pimples. I still get them like crazy and they are a total pain!! i don’t really have any pictures under softer lighting but I’ll see if I can get any until then: here’s my 4 month progress pictures. The first pictures are post minoxidil, 6 hours earlier but still I hadn’t washed it yet. I wanted to show what it looks like all pushed back. The next 3 pics are after a cleaning. These next pics are how I generally style it although I have been going out with my hair pushed back similar to the pics at the top lately. It’s a little more controlled but I think it looks better than how I’m styling it here. So, some improvement for sure but still months and months to go. As always, I’ll be here. 🙂✌🏻
  15. Dr. Arocha, Dr. Gabel, Dr. Alexander, Dr. Mohebi, Dr. Farjo.
  16. Thanks, JohnCasper! I've heard Dr. Arocha talk patients out of hairlines that are too aggressive more than once!
  17. Hi all, The patient came in for his one year follow-up visit. Wanted to update you with new photos below. Dr. Arocha took these images himself to make sure they were consistent, and that the hair is pulled back with a comb to mimic the before images. Thank you! Before: After: Before: After: Before: After: Before: After: Before: After: Before: After: Before: After: Before: After:
  18. Amazing work Dr. Arocha! This patient must be more than satisfied! Curious if he was on Finasteride or Minoxidil during that whole period as well?
  19. Good for you, I’m always glad to hear that surgeons promote age-appropriate results. Way to go Dr. Arocha.
  20. Hey guys, I had posted my results in another thread over in Open Discussion, but I thought I would consolidate and update my poor pictures with some of the before/after photos the clinic was kind enough to share with me. If I miss any information recapping, the original thread will be linked under "Patient Results" I had initially stopped by to consult with Dr. Arocha about surgery. After taking a look at my hair he recommended that I try adding PRP+Acell to the Finasteride and Minoxidil treatments. I had been on Finasteride 1mg daily for around three years by this time, and Minoxidil for several months. The doctor felt that my generalized thinning might benefit from the treatment, so I agreed to give it a shot. We also discussed the possibility of LLLT since all of these things seem to be more effective when used in conjunction with one another rather than standalone treatments, but I wanted to evaluate the PRP first since there were already a number of variables in the mix and budget was a concern. That was back on 11/5/18. I went back to his office last Monday, 4/8/19 around the five month mark, so the after pictures are from then. A couple of things to note: 1. To reiterate, I am also on Finasteride 1mg and Minoxidil twice daily. I added dermastamping a few months ago, which I do once a week with 2 mm needles. 2. Dr. Arocha performed PRP+Acell injections into my scalp around five months ago. In theory I will continue to receive benefits up to the twelve month mark if not a bit longer, but twelve months is what the doctor recommended for maintenance. He did confirm that a booster session could be beneficial for to accelerate "lagging" areas like the corners in the front, but he didn't feel that was in any way necessary unless I was feeling impatient. I decided to see how things progressed without the booster this time. Most of the PRP injections were done in the frontal area with just a little in the crown. 3. I am actually a redhead of sorts. My hair is that kind of dark auburn color with red highlights mainly visible when the light catches them. As a result, my sprouting hairs tend to be very light, fine, and nearly invisible before they thicken and darken up to the deeper brown-red of my more mature hairs. There are actually a bunch of them growing in the hairline and corners that you can't see in these photos, and based on my experience thus far there's a very real chance they may end up becoming terminal. We'll find out. 4. All pictures are taken without any kind of concealer or special product other than the leave-in conditioner I use after showering. The photos were all taken in the same spot, same lighting, with the same camera. If anything, the lighting does me a few favors in the before pictures as you can see from the harsh lighting pictures. Hair is combed back in both pictures, but I think it was just a tad longer in the "before" images. I hadn't actually realized how rough the crown had started to get, so I'm grateful to be able to see my scalp from angles I'm not usually privy to. It's still lagging a bit, but in fairness it was looking rough to begin with and the PRP injections were not concentrated in that area. Beyond obvious regrowth and filling in of sparse areas, the thickness and strength of the existing terminal hair seems to have improved quite a bit as well. It seems to have much more volume and strength to it at the moment, and I think that actually comes across in how limp my hair looks in some of the before pictures. PRP treatments can be somewhat treacherous territory because based on my research there is absolutely no standardization for how it is performed. Technique, equipment, etc. can vary wildly from place to place and that means if you're going to try it you absolutely need to go somewhere reputable that can show you a history of good results. There are a couple of doctors on this site that fall into this category, and based on my experience I would highly recommend speaking with Dr. Arocha if you're looking to give PRP a shot. Clinic Photos: Patient Photos in Harsh Light (Please excuse poor quality)
  21. This patient came to Dr. Arocha with thinning throughout. He especially wanted to increase the density of his hairline. In the last batch of before/after images, you will see a photo taken immediately post-op, which shows where the grafts were placed. Dr. Arocha and team performed a 2170 FUT procedure. The after images were taken 3.5 years following his procedure. Before: After: Before: After: Before: After: Before: After: Before: After: Before: After: Before: After:
  22. Great case! Kudos to Dr. Arocha and team. Smart planning from the get-go and good use of the donor. The patient must be very pleased.
  23. Thanks, Steeeve, The hairline is very age appropriate. Both Dr. Arocha and patient agree to the design of hairline before they move forward with a procedure. While some choose to go a more aggressive route, this patient wanted to keep it natural for his age. He's aging gracefully with some help from Dr. Arocha.
  24. Really glad to see so many positive experiences with Dr. Arocha on the forum of late. He and I have only worked on non surgical solutions so far, but at the moment he's one of the only surgeons I'd be considering if I decided to go in for a procedure.
  25. You can certainly give PRP a go. I've never heard of it causing shock loss although an effluvium shed is possible. I'd make sure to only consider doctors with good PRP results though and don't get taken in by med spas or people offering it on the cheap. Mine was done by Dr. Arocha. Dr. Cooley has also shown some strong results. Dr. Greco in Sarasota was the first to offer the procedure as far as I'm aware. There are others, but do your research. I'd recommend only opting for PRP with some kind of extra growth matrix like Acell.
