  3. Hi all, Thanks for your patience on this one. Dr. Arocha will be back in the office tomorrow so I'll be able to get more from him in regards to graft placement, current medical regimen, etc... for this particular patient.
  4. I just chatted (by face time) with Dr. Arocha out of Houston and man, what a nice guy ! He answered all my questions and I will soon be hopping on a plane to Houston. Thanks to everyone here for helping me find the right surgeon. I will keep you updated.
  5. This patient came to Dr. Arocha to restore his hairline. Dr. Arocha and team performed a 1500 FUT procedure, with PRP, on this patient. He is currently undergoing a medical regimen of Propecia to halt future progression of hair loss. The after images were taken 1 year, 2 months after his procedure. 6. Thanks, Mycroft! I've seen some pretty impressive PRP results come through Dr. Arocha's office as a standalone procedure. In combination with a transplant - it really takes the result to a whole new level.
  7. This is an example of a repair case. This patient had a previous transplant with a different surgeon, and he came to Dr. Arocha to repair his case. The before photos you see are after his unsuccessful transplant. He had thin donor area, which was made even more thin by his previous procedure. Dr. Arocha performed a 1500 FUE procedure to repair the initial work. The after images were taken approximately two years after his FUE with Dr. Arocha. 8. This patient had a 1500 FUT (strip) procedure with Dr. Arocha and his team. The after images were taken three years after his procedure. Before: Before: Before: Before: Before: Before: Before:
  9. Hi triple7, Sorry you feel that way. Not trying to fool anyone - just trying to showcase a result. As I've explained on here before, Dr. Arocha has made significant improvements to his lighting and photography equipment over the past year. Any "before" photos taken approximately two years ago will have a different background and different lighting. In addition, Dr. Arocha has several offices throughout Texas, and without revealing too much information about this particular patient, it could be that his followup photos were taken in one of our other offices. Doc and staff do their best to try to keep the background and lighting consistent when on the road, but many factors are out of their control. Your feedback has been passed along and noted by Dr. Arocha.
  10. Hello all, I finally bit the bullet. To give everyone a rundown I’m 39 years old this year. I live out of Austin, TX but I’m from closer to the Houston area. I started thinning when I was 18 and I tried everything to slow down the process, admittedly without a lot of knowledge back then. This was 1998 and I didn’t know much about propecia or minoxidil. I tried shampoos and all kinds of gimmicks. I did try propecia and minoxidil liquid but because I didn’t know enough about it and didn’t see immediate results I just stopped and got on with my life. It all started in my crown and then over the course of a decade marched its way forward toward my hairline. While my crown was very noticeably thin my hairline and frontal third stayed noticeably strong until my mid to semi late 20’s. At 24 I went and had my first consultation at a Bosley clinic in Houston and the whole experience made me feel uneasy. The doctor wasn’t really concerned with my crown which is where all the thinning was happening and wanted to lower my hairline which was still a teenage hairline. It was less than four fingers down on my forehead and still really thick. Ah, how I miss that wall of hair... lol. I politely passed but they called me every single day for two years straight trying to get me to come in for the transplant. They wanted to charge me 20K to lower my hairline and sprinkle some grafts in the crown. Knowing what I know now I think back about how they didn’t even bother to mention propecia to help slow loss. Bullet. Dodged. I got married in 2010 which ended really badly very soon after and my hair really started to go after that. Around 2012 I went to Dr Brad Limmer and got on Propecia/biotin/minoxidil foam to slow things down. Sadly he passed away the next year almost to the day of my consultation with him. I’m an actor and I was staying in Houston with a friend in 2014 while filming a movie in Louisiana when someone mentioned Dr. Arocha. I scheduled a consultation and we immediately got on very well. I loved his attitude, how much knowledge he wanted to share, that he was very honest about what we could achieve. I was traveling a lot though and it just wasn’t the right time to pull the trigger. While I traveled around the states for jobs I would schedule consultations with other doctors. I spoke with Feller and Bloxham, Gabel, Hasson and Wong, and others-some through email, FaceTime, in person. Ultimately it came down to me feeling the most comfortable with Arocha although Gabel was pretty close. I’m a diffused thinner and if my father and maternal grandfather are any indication I’m going to end up a 6 on the Norwood’s scale. I was going to go ahead with the procedure last year but my wife (I got married again in 2017) and I found out we were pregnant with twins so I decided to wait until things settled down with them. Side note: I did not stop taking finasteride when we found out we were pregnant and our babies our beautiful and healthy and at the time of this post almost 6 months old. The Big Day! I got to Arocha’s office a little after 7:30 am (traffic in Houston sucks) I signed the paperwork. We took some preop pics. Dr Arocha designed the hairline basically within my existing one. The plan was to work through the existing hairline, fill in the temple corner recession, and bulk up the frontal forelock. We discussed what we would do next year, reassess the front or go ahead and work on the crown. Everybody was really nice. I was visibly nervous and my blood pressure was a little high due to my being a little antsy. The Valium quickly helped out with that. When they were injecting the numbing solution into the back of my scalp I noticed I started shaking and feeling queasy so I spoke up immediately. They turned me over and raised my legs and put ice on my chest. I almost immediately felt better. Dr Arocha was there and cracked a joke about how I was his first patient of the day but probably his 7000th patient altogether so there was really nothing to worry about. TBH I wasn’t nervous about his ability to help me as much as I was just nervous about this giant step I was taking. After this procedure there was no going back. I turned back over when I was ready and they took the strip out. They kept complementing me on how good my donor was however I never got a number from them. I asked but they were just like, “don’t worry, it’s really really good.” I believe I heard say as they were looking at it that it looked like 80 to 90. Dr Arocha started to make the incisions and we talked for awhile before I dozed off and the next thing I know is I’m waking up to salmon kabobs, a killer salad, and potato and black bean soup. I eat up and then I go back to the chair where the techs start to insert the grafts. We chat for quite awhile. Dr Arocha was there for quite a bit of it as he would interject in our conversations. Every once in a while he would remind them about this or that concerning my grafts. I dozed off again and when I woke up we were basically done. They informed me that while I was out they put PRP all over my head. They went over cleaning instructions and we took some post op pics. My wife came in to pick me up and everyone came out to meet our twins. After that we were off and back to Austin. The ride back was pretty rough. There was a lot of pressure in my head and I got a pretty bad headache. Even with the pain pills. It didn’t even last the entire three hour drive though. I’m attaching some pics. Some preop through day two. I don’t have any pics with the design yet. I’m going to speak to Arocha’s office and see if I can get my hands on the hairline design.
  11. A question many of our patients ask is “How permanent are the results?” Dr. Arocha’s work withstands the test of time. A decade later, and this result still looks good. Hair restoration surgery done by a trained provider incorporates short and long-term planning. As this case shows, the result continues to maximize his framing, continues to be age appropriate, and is completely natural. With a small number of grafts, we were able to achieve optimum results for this patient. The after results were taken 10 years after his procedure. He had a FUT procedure that consisted of 2016 grafts. Before: After: Before: After: Before: After: Before: After: Before: After:
  12. Has anybody used him or know anything about him? I am choosing among him, Dr. Lam, and Dr. Armani in the Dallas, Texas area. I met with Dr. Arocha and eliminated him
  13. Thanks @Mycroft! Dr. Arocha said the shockloss makes it look wider than will end up being. I went and got my first haircut yesterday (I’ll post pics in a bit) and I told the barber straight out what I had done. I said that the dr said I could go down to a 3 or 4 grade. The barber didn’t want to risk it cut it down to a 6 and then did comb over scissor. Above the 6 grade. I feel like he could’ve gone lower but I’m still experimenting myself so I let it be. It still looks good. I feel like I’m just as anxious to see the scar mature as I am the hair in my recipient. Which is funny because I still feel like I’ll have to have more work done which will result in another scar.
  14. This patient came to Dr. Arocha in 2015 with thinning throughout the frontal third. He had a 2500 FUT procedure and is taking Propecia. He recently underwent a 1500 FUE procedure to enhance the temple and hide the FUT scar from his initial procedure. The after images were take four years after his original 2500 FUT procedure and 5 months after his 1500 FUE procedure. 15. This patient is not taking Propecia. He underwent one PRP procedure with Dr. Arocha and is currently using Laser therapy. The after images were taken four months after this PRP treatment. This is a nice example of a patient who was able to see a change without a surgical FUT or FUE procedure. 16. Looks like Dr. Arocha did a great job with this patient! Quite a dramatic improvement in the way his hair frames his face! Especially with only 1,500 grafts. Nice job! 👍
  17. 1 month down! I'm starting to see some shedding but most of those hairs are still holding on. I’ve had a few pimples which you might be able to see in the pictures. Does anybody have any suggestions about what to do about pimples? Should I pop them? Leave them alone? They’re actually kind of uncomfortable. I wouldn’t say they hurt but I feel it when I run my hands through my hair. I’ve seen a little shedding in my recipient but I still look like I did prior to the procedure. I’m also still seeing hair shed at my scar. My hair is long enough to cover everything though. I have my 1 month check up with Dr. Arocha on Tuesday and I’m going to ask if I could get a haircut-my concern is should I after dealing with the infection. On one hand I’d like to clean my hair up a little bit...on the other my scar is still really pink, especially on the right side where I believe the majority of the infection was, and there was a bit of shedding back there. I really can’t tell how bad it is though because my hair does a very good job covering it. Could I cut it to a 4 or 5 without risk of exposing the scar or jut wait it out a few more months? I sent the Blake a text, keeping him informed about my scar, also making an observation about how terrible it currently looked and he responded quite promptly, with quite a few texts, letting me know that everything was normal and that it’s still healing. 🙂 I guess I should’ve clarified that I was just making a general observation about the current state of the scar. While I’m aware that it’s going to take months to mature it looked pretty terrible for a hot minute, what with a flap of skin being ripped from my scalp and subsequent infection. While it’s still pink it really doesn’t look that bad anymore, with exception of where the infection was. I have to say, there’s still 11 to 17 months left to go but, I’m very happy in regards to how the clinic has treated me so far. I know it will slow down in the coming months but not a week has gone by where the clinic hasn’t reached out to me to ask how things were going with the scar or the hair transplant in general. This can be quite a stressful time for anyone who isn’t emotionally prepared to deal with it and their constant contact has be extremely reassuring. So far my experience with Dr Arocha’s clinic has been a good one. I’m attaching pics of my hair wet and dry. unless there any questions or anything randomly pops up I’ll be back at 2 months. Cheers and be good people. 1 Month Wet
  18. Hi Mycroft, Dr. Arocha just worked in the frontal area on this patient. Thanks for asking!
  19. This patient had a previous FUT procedure at another clinic prior to coming to Dr. Arocha. The grafts looked pluggy and sparse. To correct this, Dr. Arocha and his team performed a 3000 FUT procedure, working throughout the existing transplanted area. The after images were taken 5 years after his procedure at Arocha Hair Restoration. The patient recently came in for a 2nd procedure with Dr. Arocha to restore his crown. We look forward to updating you with those results in the future.
  20. Hey guys, I had posted my results in another thread over in Open Discussion, but I thought I would consolidate and update my poor pictures with some of the before/after photos the clinic was kind enough to share with me. If I miss any information recapping, the original thread will be linked under "Patient Results" I had initially stopped by to consult with Dr. Arocha about surgery. After taking a look at my hair he recommended that I try adding PRP+Acell to the Finasteride and Minoxidil treatments. I had been on Finasteride 1mg daily for around three years by this time, and Minoxidil for several months. The doctor felt that my generalized thinning might benefit from the treatment, so I agreed to give it a shot. We also discussed the possibility of LLLT since all of these things seem to be more effective when used in conjunction with one another rather than standalone treatments, but I wanted to evaluate the PRP first since there were already a number of variables in the mix and budget was a concern. That was back on 11/5/18. I went back to his office last Monday, 4/8/19 around the five month mark, so the after pictures are from then. A couple of things to note: 1. To reiterate, I am also on Finasteride 1mg and Minoxidil twice daily. I added dermastamping a few months ago, which I do once a week with 2 mm needles. 2. Dr. Arocha performed PRP+Acell injections into my scalp around five months ago. In theory I will continue to receive benefits up to the twelve month mark if not a bit longer, but twelve months is what the doctor recommended for maintenance. He did confirm that a booster session could be beneficial for to accelerate "lagging" areas like the corners in the front, but he didn't feel that was in any way necessary unless I was feeling impatient. I decided to see how things progressed without the booster this time. Most of the PRP injections were done in the frontal area with just a little in the crown. 3. I am actually a redhead of sorts. My hair is that kind of dark auburn color with red highlights mainly visible when the light catches them. As a result, my sprouting hairs tend to be very light, fine, and nearly invisible before they thicken and darken up to the deeper brown-red of my more mature hairs. There are actually a bunch of them growing in the hairline and corners that you can't see in these photos, and based on my experience thus far there's a very real chance they may end up becoming terminal. We'll find out. 4. All pictures are taken without any kind of concealer or special product other than the leave-in conditioner I use after showering. The photos were all taken in the same spot, same lighting, with the same camera. If anything, the lighting does me a few favors in the before pictures as you can see from the harsh lighting pictures. Hair is combed back in both pictures, but I think it was just a tad longer in the "before" images. I hadn't actually realized how rough the crown had started to get, so I'm grateful to be able to see my scalp from angles I'm not usually privy to. It's still lagging a bit, but in fairness it was looking rough to begin with and the PRP injections were not concentrated in that area. Beyond obvious regrowth and filling in of sparse areas, the thickness and strength of the existing terminal hair seems to have improved quite a bit as well. It seems to have much more volume and strength to it at the moment, and I think that actually comes across in how limp my hair looks in some of the before pictures. PRP treatments can be somewhat treacherous territory because based on my research there is absolutely no standardization for how it is performed. Technique, equipment, etc. can vary wildly from place to place and that means if you're going to try it you absolutely need to go somewhere reputable that can show you a history of good results. There are a couple of doctors on this site that fall into this category, and based on my experience I would highly recommend speaking with Dr. Arocha if you're looking to give PRP a shot. Clinic Photos: Patient Photos in Harsh Light (Please excuse poor quality)
  21. This patient came to Dr. Arocha to correct his diffuse thinning throughout, as well as to enhance his hairline. Dr. Arocha and team performed a 3000 FUT procedure. The after images were taken 4.5 years after his procedure.
  22. So these are pics of the scar but keep in mind I took these pics last Tuesday night. The area is much cleaner now. I showed these to Blake, Dr. Arocha’s representative I’ve been in contact with, and he showed them to the doctor. They called me back within minutes to reassure me the incision is just healing and to stay on the regimen that I posted earlier. As you’ll see the pics from Tuesday show that the area is a little pink and there are a few bumps on the right side that I believe are just pimples. Other than the area being much cleaner now it still looks basically the same. You get a better idea of the shockloss surrounding the incision which seems to be following gravity and moving downward rather than above it.It’s impossible to tell what the scar will turn out like at this point. Especially with the infection. I believe I’ve heard in a consultation somewhere that the scar takes 6 months to mature but I may be 100% off about that. I’ll be post again at the 1 month mark unless there are any questions. I’ll be here if there are. Cheers and be good people.
  23. BACKGROUND I'm in my late 20s and started receding around the age of 18. my scalp is very light compared to my forehead. my natural hairline sat right on the line where the pigmentation changed color. (Pictured) I stalked these forums regularly but never posted until recently. I'm Latino with African/Italian ancestry, my hair grows straight for about .5cm before it curls over. I'm located in NY Moving Forward I consulted online or in person with various doctors that were recommended on these forums the likes of (Arocha, Bloxham, Diep, Vories, and Frank). after many Q&As with each I felt most comfortable with Dr.Arocha in Texas. I flew to TX on Thursday met him and the staff that same day we went over my loss and future strategies as well as design. He recommended a higher hairline than the one I received based on the rule of thirds which I understood but felt it wasn't near my original hairline. we agreed on a lower line (pictured) The Big Day After medications and local numbing was administer a strip was taken from back of the head – 3140 grafts were harvested. Dr. Arocha mentioned he was aiming for 40 grafts cm2 coverage and that my hair was straight at short length. He did the strip removal, stitching and incisions at recipient site. Technicians did the graft cutting and placement. The procedure was done on FRIDAY I was very pleased with the service. everyone from medical staff and administration were very welcoming and ensure I had an excellent operation. it was to such extent that Dr. Arocha came in on Saturday to review the post op and ensure things were okay. he even gave me a tour of the city in his personal car. he even had one staff member come in on Saturday - the same day as her son's birthday just in case some work was needed (thanks Michelle). On Sunday (Father’s Day) he called to check up on me. Again, I’m extremely pleased with the service. Has First week post op I had swelling which is normal which has gone down considerably between days 4-7. I have followed the post op instructions to the T. I have used the shampoo and bacitracin provided by the Doctor as per instructed no harsh touching and trickle water. I feel like the treatment and operation were world class and I’m inclined to use the doctor again Pictures posted include my original hairline, my baldness pattern, hairline design and post op results at day 5/6. Please contact for any questions I will maintain this thread with my progression. PLEASE FEEL FREE TO CONTACT WITH QUESTIONS
  24. Hi Mycroft - great question. You are correct, some of the grafts were placed into his existing scar from his previous FUT procedure. The "after" pictures I showed above are taken of this patient 5 months after that FUE procedure. Unfortunately, I don't have any where Dr. Arocha lifted the hair to more closely reveal the scar revision. I have attached some images of the scar prior to the FUE revision, and immediately post-op. I also included a photo of where doc placed into his temples.
