  1. Dr. Hasson has just asked me to post this on the boards as it is the latest study regarding Proscar and Prostate cancer. Prevention of Prostate Cancer with Finasteride: US/European Perspective. Thompson IM, Klein EA, Lippman SM, Coltman CA, Djavan B. University of Texas Health Science Center, Division of Urology, 7703 Floyd Curl Drive, 78229, San Antonio, TX, USA PURPOSE: Prostate cancer is the most common male cancer, affecting one man in six. Prevention of this disease, even in a subset of patients would have a significant impact on public health. The results of the National Cancer Institute-sponsored Prostate Cancer Prevention Trial demonstrate that finasteride causes a substantial risk reduction across all known risk groups. We herein amplify on the results of this trial to assist patients and physicians in reaching individualized decisions.MATERIALS AND METHODS: The results of the Prostate Cancer Prevention Trial were reviewed.RESULTS: The PCPT demonstrated a 24.8% reduction in prostate cancer risk with the administration of finasteride. High-grade cancers were noted in 6.4% of finasteride patients compared to 5.1% of men receiving placebo. The increase in high-grade tumors was seen within one year of finasteride exposure and did not increase over time. This observation, combined with previous evidence demonstrating an alteration in cytologic and architectural features of prostate cancer with hormonal therapy suggests that the differences in high-grade disease may be an artifact and that application of Gleason grading to these tumors may not be appropriate.DISCUSSION: Men should be presented the benefits and risks of taking finasteride and be assisted in integrating their sexual and urinary symptoms into their decision-making process. Blanket statements for or against the use of this medication ignore patient preferences and differential risk-benefit profiles from finasteride. 3. I am a 53 year old male that had two transplant sessions for a total of 3000 hairs on November 6th & 7th with Dr B.L. Limmer in San Antonio. This was my second time for a hair transplant after getting one with Medical Hair Transplant six years ago. Talk about a difference! Dr Limmer and his staff of "hair angels" were tremendous. Dr. Limmer checked on me numerous times both days while my "hair angel #1" Christina did the task of "transplanting". There was no pain at all. I was given medicine to take for pain both nights but did not need it. These two sessions were on the front and top of my head. I can't wait to get started on the back of my head! I'll post pictures in the future. So do your homework, quit wasting time, make a decision and get some hair!

  5. 1) Second skin. To my complete amazement, I have seen nothing about using 2nd skin (occlusive dressing) imeediately post-op. It is simply phenomenal! I had 1500 grafts with Limmer in San Antonio, TX on July 29, 2003 (almost a week ago). Dr. Limmer used this dressing on me which I removed on August 1. No scabs, no bleeding of any sort, no swelling, no nothing. By then, my grafts were like stubble but with no issues of healing. I went out yesterday with my family for dinner and I think I looked pretty good. There was no need to wear a hat ot to cover my grafts. I wonder why this 2nd skin approach is not described in this forum? 2) Limmer experience. The procedure was fine, but it should be noted that it was carried out almost entirely by the assistant (Diane). None of the doctors Limmer (father or son) touched me other than excising the strip; did not create any recipient holes, did not cut any grafts, did not position any grafts; did not even oversee the final result. The overall process was as described with no significant discomfort. This lady did a great job with placement and, although way too early in the game, I am thrilled with the results and the lack of problems. I will be happy to answer any questions you may have about either 1 or 2 above.
  6. Here are some pics --Man there hard to take yourself ---Anyway here goes --- Anyway I would consider myself a nw5 --I had an unknown amount of mini - micro grafts when I was 22 years old by Dr.Ivan Cohen ( The Before Pic ) ---Anyway it wasan't many grafts as you can tell even tough my hair loss increased since. I came upon this site and read about Follicular Units and read and about all of the recommended docs they had online. To be totally honest I chose Dr.Limmer because of his pricing schedule. I understood that he utilized the stick and place method and that a tech would do most of the work.I had my session on 2/11/02 --I flew from Hartford to San Antonio and met the next morning with Dr.Limmer. He is a very nice man and explained and answered any question that I asked. As I stated Dr.Limmer's planters as there called did most of the work. Dr.Limmer was in and out of the room and withing speaking distance 95% of the procedure. He even gave me a ride back to my hotel when the shuttle tried to pick me up at the wrong entrance. All in all it was a good experience at the time.I had about 1500-1550 FU's placed.I also started propecia the same day and have been on it since. Now since hindsite is 20/20 I would have chosen to have a bigger session done. Being Norwood 5 and needing at least 4000-5000 fu's to mask my hair loss I would have chosen a bigger session. I am a prison guard for the state of CT and my income depends on overtime --I didn't at the time have 8K to shell out --- I am now looking to possibly use Hasson&Wong for my next session.I really like the way they design there hairlines and if I am going to shell out this much money I want to look the best I possibly could. 8. Don't use Dr.Cohen.I had a transplant with him in 1992 when I was 23 years old.I almost made the mistake of going again to him in 98 BUT once he charged my Bluecross for the "Free" consultation and he couldn't tell me how many grafts I had the first procedure I decided to wait. Cohen just recently started using Follicular Units --- He can't quote a price per graft untill he sees you ---LOL ----Look on Pat's list and you'll see plenty of doctors who won't mislead you --they state there price per graft UP FRONT ! Even though all cases are different there is a set price guide most doctors use and would gladly tell a prospective patient about UPFRONT !!! Don't be fooled by Cohen's slick talk I live 20 minuets from his office and I flew to San Antonio to see Dr.Brad Limmer and I wasan't disappointed
  9. Pat ; I am a "former" patient of Dr.Cohen.I find it VERY HARD to believe that you have placed him on a recommended list of doctors to use.I had my 1 and only procedure with Dr.Ivan Cohen in the early 90's when I was approx 22 years old !! I still to this day don't have a clue on how many Mini to plug type grafts he gave me.Over the years my hair grew thinner.I again chose to look on the internet and to have another consultation with Dr.Cohen.The part of the NO FEE Consultation is a falsehood at least for MINE it was.Dr.Cohen stated to me "I can give you the same amount of grafts you had last time".He never named a number and to this day I still don't know how many I had.He also gladly billed my Bluecross for my "CONSULTATION".This consultation was maybe 97-98.Dr.Cohen hadan't even mentioned "Follicualar Unit".I had consultations with 2 other respected doctors and both said that the work he did was fair to ok BUT grafts were pitted. This guy claims he's the first doctor in Connecticut to use Follicular units. He's made that statement just recently in the past few years. Trust me on this one guys ----I live about 20 minutes from his office and I choose to fly to San Antonio Texas for my work !!!

  11. Has anyone had a procedure done with Dr. Pistone in Philadelphia? I had a consult today, and I really liked the results of his clients. I received a referral list from him, and was told that after today, it was up to me. They wouldn't call, send any literature, any "special" offers. He charges by the session, all FUs, and recommended about 300 to touch up my hairline and use larger grafts for the back, guessing around 1100 total grafts. The procedure will cost $4700, and covers initial bloodwork, procedure, all meds, plus post-op follow-ups for up to a year. I really liked what I heard today, and probably will go with him. I've had consults with a lot of surgeons on this board, and I could go out of the area to get the work done, but I feel really comfortable here. A trip to Toronto or San Antonio or Florida would be nice, but I figure, the less I spend on travel, the more I have for the procedure. Any thoughts?

  13. Any comments on Dr. Limmer in San Antonio, Texas? Good or bad....
  14. I returned back home to connecticut from San Antonio this afternoon.I had a approx 1500+ FU session with Dr.Limmer's office yesterday.I won't get into all the basic details but I can tell you that I didn't go wrong by going there.I have read all the rhetoric about stick and place and technicians doing all the work. So,if you reply with all the bashing --It's all useless.I had 1 prior procedure in appprox 1993.It was mini's--I don't know how many to tell you the truth because I was only about 23 at the time.My hair has since recedded much more and these plugs/mini's? where becoming quite noticeable. I have been researching doctors for about a year now reading and reading more on who, what, where, when on hair transplantation techniques of today. I found Dr Limmer's office on this site and I have started topics on here about him and I just kept reading more and more.I decide in November of last year that I would go and have a procedure done in San Antonio. IT's all the same basice stuff as any other office.I felt very little to no pain during the whole procedure.Today I still feel no pain.I didn't take any pain killers just aspirin.MY threshold for pain is high though I may add but I haven't heard of many people having any serious pain from a procedure though. It's true they utilize the stick and place method. The tech who planted my hair had been working at Dr.Limmer's office for 8 years.(In hindsight the Doctor who did my first procedure just sent me a brochure stating "He was the 1st doctor in Connecticut to bring Follicular Unit Transplants to Connecticut") To make my point here the girl who planted my hair has worked with Follicuar Units only and if you look at most doctors they are just starting to utilize them. Dr.Limmer removed the strip and the techs started cutting.I was sutured up with Disolvable sutures and the procedure began at about 9am.During the whole procedure Dr.Limmer was in the room at least every 20-30 mins if not shorter and was always asking how I felt and checking and rechecking the work being done.I was done at approx 5pm. The procedure itself went like a charm.I look forward to great results but time will tell. Do yourself a huge favor and look at Dr.Brad Limmer or his father if your seriously looking to get a top quality procedure done.I've sent out pictures to MANY of the doctors on this site.I've had consultations with a few doctors on this site.Dr.Limmer is a great way to go if your looking for a quality transplant procedure. In my opinion. And last but not least..Dr.Limmer is a VERY GENUINE Doctor and person. He will sit and talk to you and answer any question that you may have.I work in a prison ( for all you bashers out there) so I know when people are truly genuine and who bullsh** and Dr.Limmer is for real. That smile you see in the picture is him from what I saw the whole day yesterday. Any serious questions I will answer email me at --pdm68@yahoo.com ---
  15. I would check out an ALL Follicular Unit Session with Dr.Beehner or any other doctor.I currently am traveling to San Antonio this sunday (From Connecticut) for a 1500 FU session with Dr.Brad Limmer on Monday morning.
  16. Needless to say I agree with the above posts. Yes, Dr. Shapiro is superb. And I believe that no one does better work in the world than him and his group. But if you want to stay in Texas I strongly suggest you do a consult with Dr. Limmer ("The Godfather of Follicular Units") in San Antonio or Dr. Dow Stough in Dallas who also does all follicular unit work. They are the two best that I know of in Texas. For more info about them go to "Find a Great Surgeon" on this site and click on Texas. I think you will also be very pleasantly surprised at their prices. Best wishes to you for getting the results you want in the New Year. Pat [This message was edited by Pat - Publisher of this site on January 15, 2002 at 07:21 AM.]
  17. If you are in Houston I strongly suggest you do a consult with Dr. McClellan of the New Hair Institute (NHI) or make the drive to see Dr. Limmer in San Antonio. Both do excellent microscopic follicular unit hair transplantation (the procedure I had). To learn more about either surgeon click on "Find a Great Surgeon" on the left hand Navigation menu and then on Texas on the map. I'd wish you good luck. But if you are going to either of them you won't need it. Pat - publisher and "Recovered Bald Guy" [This message was edited by Pat - editor and "Recovered Bald Guy" on October 02, 2001 at 12:17 PM.]
