Advice for Hair Loss Sufferers Considering Hair Transplant Surgery

My Story

  1. Dear Forum Members, As many of you know, we gather as much information as possible about a physician, their staff, technique and track record before they are even considered for recommendation on the Hair Transplant Network. Part of our review process involves getting input from patients and the members of this forum community. To learn more about this review process, click here. In North America, the market for 350 million people is shared by 40 plus physicians recommended by our community. In India, we currently recommend only one physician in a market for over 1 billion people. After interviewing Dr. Radha Palakurthi of India and seeing several examples of her surgical procedure and results, I believe that Dr. Radha Palakurthi should be considered for potential recommendation by this community. At this time, Dr. Radha is only being considered for recommendation, not the Coalition. To see our standards for recommendation, click here Dr. Radha was trained by Coalition member Dr. Pathomvanich has over 4 years of experience performing exclusive hair transplant surgery. She also operates on only one patient per day and offers her high quality follicular unit hair transplant procedure to her patients at a highly reduced cost of one US dollar per graft via the FUT method and two US dollars per graft via FUE. Dr. Radha recently received a number of glowing reviews by her patients sharing their experience and photos on this community. See below for a few recent examples: Member "RodG" Shares His Experience and Photos with Dr. Radha - 2075 Grafts Member "HiFlyer" Shares His Experience and Photos with Dr. Radha - 3354 Grafts Member "Cardel25" Shares His Experience and Photos with Dr. Radha - 2694 Grafts Dr. Palakurthi specializes in dense packing, megasessions and has experience in performing successful eyebrow and moustache transplantation procedures. She is also experienced in performing high quality follicular unit hair transplantation on Indian, Asian, African American and Caucasian hair. Dr. Radha has a large and experienced staff of 11 surgical assistants averaging 4 years of experience and has the ability to perform large densely packed sessions of ultra refined follicular unit hair transplantation exceeding 3000 grafts when appropriate for the patient. Dr. Radha also performs hair transplant gigasessions exceeding 4000 grafts for those with exceptional donor hair characteristics. Dr. Radha Palakurthi is very hands-on and is involved in every step of the procedure including harvesting the donor strip, preparing the grafts, making tiny recipient incisions in balding areas and inserting 30 to 40% of the grafts herself. Dr. Radha asserts that hairline reconstruction is an art and is the hair transplant surgeon's signature. Thus, in order to create the most natural looking hairline that mimics nature, Dr. Radha uses single haired follicular units to re-create the hairline. Dr. Radha Palakurthi uses a single blade to harvest the donor strip in order to minimize follicular transection and employs the trichophytic closure technique using a single layer closure with external absorbable sutures to minimize the appearance of scarring. Dr. Radha uses tiny needles as small as .7mm in recipient areas in order to minimize trauma to the scalp and maximize dense packing when appropriate for the patient. Dr. Radha is a member of the ISHRS (International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery), the AAHRS (Asian Association of Hair Restoration Surgeons) and the IAHRS (Indian Association of Hair Restoration Surgeons). Dr. Radha Palakurthi is also a board certified diplomate of the ABHRS (American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery). Given Dr. Radha Palakurthi's experience and commitment to ultra refined follicular unit hair transplantation, I believe that she should be considered for recommendation. See our standards for recommendation. View some of her patient and surgical photos below: 2433 Grafts with Dr. Radha 2282 Grafts with Dr. Radha 2900 Grafts with Dr. Radha (4.5 Months Post-Op) 2427 Grafts with Dr. Radha 2635 Grafts with Dr. Radha 2881 Grafts with Dr. Radha Photos Showing Dr. Radha in Surgery I welcome input and comments from forum members regarding her potential recommendation.

  3. Hello, I am a newbie to this forum and this is my my first post. First of all I would like to thank this forum and all the members for providing such a wonderful platform to people who are facing problems with hair loss. With out you all, it would have been very difficult to find a good surgon like Dr. Radha. I am 42 year old male from IL, USA. I had a HT procedure done on Dec 19th by Dr. Radha Palakurthi(Visakhapatnam, India). Here is my experience. After following this forum for quite sometime, I decided to go with Dr. Radha. I sent an email to her in the third week of November for an appointment. It took few days to receive a reply from her and I was little concerned as I was planning to go to India in the third week of Dec. After 3-4 days I received an email from Dr. Radha asking for more details and she mentioned that she could not reply back earlier as she was traveling. I requested her to give an appointment around 20th of Dec as I was going to stay in India only for 2 weeks. She replied saying back it was difficult to accomodate my request with such a short notice and also due to her prior appointments. I called her office and explained my situation and they immediately gave her cell No. Her front office staff (Ms.Prasanna is a very helpul and courteous person). I called up Dr. Radha and explained my situation and requested her for an appointment. She promised me that she will go through her dairy and will try her best to give me an appointment. As promised she wrote back to me saying that she will be able to see me on Dec 19th 2013. She sent me some instructions regarding what to do before the surgery. After reaching India I sent an email and I was told to see her on Dec 18th evening for the initial consultation. I went to her clinic at around 3:30 pm and was taken to a consultation room. After a few minutes Dr. Radha came in and we had a brief chat about the procedure. She is very warm person, makes you very comfortable and explains you the total process. She had a look at my hair line and said I should not expect more than 3000 grafts based on the thickness of hair and flexibilty of my skin. I was asked to come back the next day morning at 8:30 am. Went back to the hotel( Hotel Taj Gateway; very nice hotel) and slept early. Next morning around 8:00 am I went back to the clinic and the friendly staff took me to the consultation room. Shortly afterwards the nurse(Ms. Shashi, a very nice and friendly person) came in took some blood samples. After that another nurse (Ms.Ujjwala' again a very helpful person) took me to another room and handed over sterile clothes to change. At around 8:30 am Dr. Radha came in and spoke to me for few minutes. She was always having a smile on her face and makes you very comfortable. You feel as if you are taking to a friend. She then took some photos & measurements. She then determined that the total area she would be covering would be around 123 sq cms. She said she will start from the front with more density and as it goes back the density of coverage will be little less based on the No of grafts she would be able to extract. I was then taken to the operation room( Very nice set up) and was given some anxiety pills and local anaestetia. As she does each step she will clearly explain what she is doing. Dr. Radha then cut a strip from the back of my head. The whole process of extracting the strip and stiching the skin took few hours and around 12:30 I was given a lunch break for 30-45 min. Most of the time I had a good sleep and did not have much pain or discomfort. Before I went tout of the operation theatre they asked me if I would like to see how the technicains are seggregating the grafts from the strip which was taken from the back fo my head. I went and they showed me how the technicians were working on the hair follicules.Post lunch session Dr. Radha started planting the folicules that were taken out from my hair strip. I was again given some anxiety pills and local anaestetia and I soon slipped into sleep.( I heard some people dont get sleep due to anxiety or due to discomfort). Anyways I woke up in between a couple of times and Dr. Radha told me everything was going well. Finally around 6:30 pm Dr. radha woke me up and said the procedure was done and everything went very well. I was very relieved and felt happy. I was taken to a room and was asked to chage back to my clothes. After changing back, the nurse took me to the initial consultation room, and was met by Dr. Radha with a warm smile. She told me that she was able to extract 3845 grafts(WOW!!! More than what I expected). ((Total 3845 grafts- Single hair: 966; Doubles: 2739; Three hair: 140;)) She again spent sometime giving instructions and asked me to come the next day morning for cleaning and dressing. As far as I remember, Dr. Radha was by my side during the total procedure performing most part of the surgery along with her assistants. This gave me more confidence and comfort see her doing the stuff herself. I thanked all the assisatnts and technicains who were a part of the surgery and took leave from them. HERE IS THE BEST PART....Before I left, I asked Dr. Radha about the payment(Believe me till this point she never talked about the money part). She smiled and told me that we can discuss this the next day when I go for dressing. When I insisted that I want pay it immediately then she generously rounded of the figure and I paid her the amount. This clearly shows her character, professionalism and her down to earth nature. Next day I went in, got the cleaning done and had a quick chart with Dr. Radha and happily headed back to the airport. After 5 days I was asked to go to another doctor who was a friend of Dr. Radha to get the sutures removed. Since I did not have enough time and could not stay back in Visakhapatnam for the next 5 days, Dr. Radha referred me to another doctor in the city I was going to stay. Overall I had a very pleasant and GREAT experience and with out any hesitation I would recommend Dr. Radha to every one looking for a HT surgery. Last but not the least, Dr. Radha had a very friendly and professional support staff. The clinic itself is very good and well equipped. I will post my photos shortly. Once again thanks to this forum all the members who have contributed to this forum. Good Luck guys and hope this post helps.
  4. Dr damkerng pathomvanich or Dr Radha Palakurthi So I have been doing quite a bit of research on HT surgeons. Come to the conclusion the Australia is way to expensive and I'd like to have time off afterwards to recover. After a lot of searching Dr Path in Thailand seemed to have a good reputation, I've travelled quite a lot through Thailand so I'm used to the ways of the country so it seemed like an obvious choice, considering prices compared to those in Australia. I've had a consultation via email with Dr Path and they have been nothing but professional thus far. But the thing is this year I planned on backpacking through India which got me thinking that once I have saved enough I would start my adventure by getting a HT. So my question is how do i decide between the two ? So wondering if anyone that has had HT done by Dr Dr Radha Palakurthi could help in telling me about their experience ? how did the HT turn out ? How is the surrounding area ? ...cause I'd plan on relaxing for a few weeks afterwards, seems like a nice beach spot from all pics. Any info that could help me make a decision would help greatly Thanks Beach
  5. I had undergone HT with Dr. Radha, thanks for all the people putting their experiences for so long, I have been following this forum for sometime now, and decided to take the plunge. Below is my hairloss blog. Seniors. experienced people, please comment what to expect. Currently feeling lot of stretch on my scar. Doctor had told me I had very less laxity and that's why less donor hairs and many weak hairs leading to not so expected a result. But I am still hopeful.... Looking forward to your feedback. cheers tuja Hair Restoration Site for tuja
  6. Hi friends, I have recently undergone hair transplantation from Dr Radha Palakurthi of Vizag. My pre and post op pictures , i have attached along with this blog. Your expert comments and suggestions are greatly welcomed. As for my experiance with my surgeon, she is a wonderful trichologist, an expert surgeon, well read n well informed. More over she is very amiable to deal with.. She is very patient is more than ready to clear your each and every doubt. And she has got a really hardworking and dedicated team working for her. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to her and her team. If anyone of you are looking for a nice HT clinic , I strongly recommend her..!! Regarding my transplant, I had about 2900 grafts done , by FUT method.. Todays the second post op day. Theres absolutely no pain. Mild itching is there. Im refrainin from scratchin or rubbing the recipient area. As I have been well informed by my doc, there is considerable edema, which she assured me will come down by 3 or 4 days. The rest u guyz see for yourself from my pics n pls give me your valuable comments.
  7. Hello All, Warm greeting to everyone. About Me: I am Sandeep from Chennai, India. I have been suffering from hair loss for the past 10 years since the transition of my teenage to adolescent cycle. I have already taken many different medications from Ayurveda, Alpecin to Minoxidil. None of them have met the expectations of mine wrt hair regrowth. I have already lost a considerable amount of hair in the centre of my head (bald spot) and also in the front. I would say 40% of my hair is already lost and the remaining hair in the frontal area are also thin compared to the side and back of the head. Questions: 1) Based upon my research so far and from going through your profile I have zeroed in on two Doctors from India. Dr. Tejinder Bhatti for FUE and Dr. Radha Palakurthi for FUT technique. But I still struggle to choose which technique should I opt for FUE or FUT. Any help on this is much appreciated? 2) Why Dr. Radha Palakurthi profile is not viewable in this website and also she is not listed under recommended doctors from India? Any reasons behind this? I have attached my pictures along with this post. This would help you to access my current situation and for choosing FUE or FUT. Eagerly awaiting for response from Senior members. Thank you. Regards, Sandeep
  8. Let dangle, I’m surprised to hear you say that you would not go to any hair transplant surgeon in India when we happen to recommend a few surgeons who do outstanding work. Haven’t you seen results posted by Dr. Bhatti? Dr. Radha Palakurthi? Dr. Madhu? Dr. Dua? Dr. Soni? All of them are performing state-of-the-art hair transplant surgery with excellent results. I encourage you to view their recommendation profiles and examples of their results. best wishes, Bill
  9. Thappa, Dr. Radha Palakurthi is also recommended along with the ones Melvin mentioned. I know it’s tough when you get different graft estimates to make a decision, but ultimately since all 3 hair surgeons you mentioned are recommended by our community, selecting amongst the three Will be a personal choice depending on which one you connect with most of which strategy you like the best. Personally, with the amount of hair loss I see in your pictures, I would likely elect going for the larger procedure. Now, you could always ask each doctor why their recommendation is different then another doctors and that you prefer one over the other just to see what they say. But ultimately, each hair transplant surgeon has their own unique philosophy. The good news is, each one has a long history of producing outstanding results. Best wishes, Bill
  10. Hi guys, Had hair transplant with Dr Radha Palakurthi (Vizag,India)last week. The before and after pics attached for your reference.
  11. Hello All, I'm 25 years old. I have been following this forum for years now and finally decided to go for a hair transplant in India. With the limited choice available in the market it would be great to get ur opinions. I would ideally prefer a FUE for lowering my hairline(1500-1800 grafts recomended). I had consultation with Dr A (FUE)and the results seem good on his website. Alongside my other considerations are Dr. Radha Palakurthi (FUT) and Dr. Madhu (FUT), both of whom are highly recommended on this forum. The criteria I'm seeking is to achieve a dense hairline using lateral slit technique, irrespective of whether its FUT or FUE since all the doctors mentioned above are very careful with extraction to preserve donor area. Please give your valuable advice Cheers.
  12. Who is the best FUT Strip Surgeon in India Dr. Suneet Soni or Dr. Radha Rani Palakurthi.
  13. Who is the best FUT Strip Surgeon in India Dr. Suneet Soni or Dr. Radha Rani Palakurthi.
  14. Yes there are female hair transplant surgeons and we actually recommend several of them. Dr. Keene, as somebody referenced is a highly esteemed Coalition member and does ultra refined work. She is well known for her very natural looking hairlines. Dr. Radha Palakurthi is female and doing outstanding hair transplant surgery in India. She is also recommended by this community. There are of course other female hair transplant surgeons you have not been approved for recommendation by this community however, having been to several ISHRS meetings, there are no doubt male surgeons than female surgeons. Best wishes, Bill
  15. Hi all, I have joined the forum recently, but I have been following the site for sometime now. To update, i had a transplant with Dr. A ****** (shortlised based on his published results and IAHRS candidature) in Oct 2013. It was a combination of FUT and FUE, with some 500 beard grafts as well. As per plan, it was to be a 5000 graft requirement as I was Norwood IV/V, but the results turned out not really great. Additionally the scar was also really bad. I am now planning to go for another hair transplant and based on the research in the forum, I was thinking of getting it done from Dr. Radha Palakurthi as she has very good review here. I will post my current pics. I need some advice from group members on the selection of HT surgeon and also on the procedure which I should adopt for transplant(FUT/FUE/BHT). I had a discussion with Dr. Radha on phone and shared photos also based on which said I will need to do scar correction and rather than going for selection of procedure I should concentrate on result as I was more inclined towards FUE/BHT rather than FUT.
  16. Hello! I'm from Russia. I need a hair transplant surgery. I do not speak English. I need your advice on choosing a doctor: 1) Dr. Kapil Dua 2) Dr. Radha Palakurthi 3) Dr. Sajal Halder, Delhi, India (it is recommended to hairsite.com forum). Which doctor would you recommend me?
  17. Members, I appreciate everyone's valuable input on this topic. Dr. Radha Palakurthi has certainly produced a number of fans on this community over the past several months and after interviewing her and viewing her results, I can see why. She was trained by one of the best and has shown plenty of evidence that she's doing high quality ultra refined follicular unit hair transplant surgery. Given the positive input we received from patient and quality physician members of this community, I'd like to congratulate Dr. Palakurthi on becoming our newest recommended hair restoration physician in India. View her recommendation profile on the Hair Transplant Network by clicking here. I encourage anyone considering hair transplant surgery in India and beyond to consult with Dr. Radha Palakurthi. I expect we'll see even more quality work from her in the coming months. Best wishes, Bill
  18. Yeah, I guess I should have said "least expensive," instead of cheap. Then, everyone might not have said "money is no object; if you don't know this, you shouldn't get a transplant. Better to pay $1 million more, if the doctor has one more satisfied patient." For rich patients, an extra $10K might be so little that price should not be any factor. But not everyone is rich, and as long as you are taking a doctor recommended here or widely recommended elsewhere, it is not entirely clear how much more you get for that extra $10K that some charge. Two years ago, I decided to limit myself to the doctors recommended here, not because I thought that they were the only good ones. (A lot of people explained that this website charges doctors, and some are good, but don't want to pay.) I just figured I had to draw the line somewhere on how much information I could absorb. (Had I known Dr. Bhatti was doing FUE at only $1.40 per graft and was regarded well, I probably would have gone with his FUE.) But two years ago, all the doctors recommended here were much less expensive for FUT rather than FUE, and all charging much more than $1.40 per graft for FUE. Back then Dr. Radha Palakurthi was the cheapest for FUE, charging $2 per graft, but she sent me an email which suggested she expected only an 80% yield for FUE and encouraged FUT. I was confused by the email, since no doctor would do FUE with such a low yield, and understood from the email that Dr. Radha Palakurthi wanted to get out of the FUE business. In any event, I am not rich, and there were already other reasons arguably to opt for FUT without even a cost savings (for example, possible better yield and more grafts/session). Accordingly, I got FUT from a doctor recommended here. And now I am ready for the next surgery. I have to decide again whether to get FUE or FUT for this round 2 and don't know what to do. FUE for only $1.40 per graft is temptingly cheap. A lot of people will have no sympathy for me and say I just need "to do the research." But anyone who has done the research knows, no matter how deeply you look into it, you have to assess conflicting opinions, and "the research" does not yield a clear answer, but merely subjective opinions. I guess I can start by getting prices from Bisanga, Feriduni, and Erdogan. Two years ago Humayen, Radha, and Madhu were the cheapest doctors here, so I should look into them too.
  19. Welcome DMITRI77! If you have not yet done so, I suggest viewing our interactive map where you can find all of the hair transplant surgeons we recommend in India and around the world. 20. Hey guys, first time poster here. No idea if this is the right place for this topic, so apologies in advance if I've got the wrong category. I'm looking into hair transplants in both India and Turkey. I'm looking specifically at Dr Radha Rani Palakurthi and Dr Ekrem Civas. I've done my research on lots of surgeons in both countries, and so far on balance, these two seem like the best options. I know Dr Radha was recommended on here in 2012, but I just wondered if there'd been any recent patient testimonials? Also, I haven't found any negative points/reviews for either of the two doctors, so am I right in thinking there have only been positive comments for both doctors on the forum? Thanks for your help everyone. Z
  21. Hi guys. Has Radha Rani changed her name to Radha Palakurthi? I emailed through her website (shows pictures of her with Dr. Path), and the emails are being responded to (usually with a 1wk lag) by Radha Palakurthi. Just want to make sure I'm going with the correct person.
  22. Jansberg, if you want to save money, its better you go to Dr. Radha Palakurthi in India, she charges only $1 per graft, half price of Dr. Pong even. She was trained by Dr .Path and has a lot of satisfied patients in the forum. Check her out Dr. Radha Palakurthi Hair Transplant Surgeon in Andhra Pradesh, India ...
  23. I too am considering Dr. Tejinder Bhatti and Dr. Radha Palakurthi, This is if I have work done in India. I have contact Dr. Radha and will need to send in my photos and begin the discussion. Bhatti as a longer history with FUE and Radha's FUT work has been highly recommended but need to do more research. I know she does some FUE work too. I am considering a few other doctors in Turkey. Maybe we can compare notes. I would like to have my surgery completed at the end of August or early September. I'll probably stay in which ever country 5 to 14 days so maybe we would be around at the same time.

  25. I've corrected the spelling on Dr. Radha's and Dr. Bhatti's names in the title and original post in order to make the discussion more searchable. As stated above, Both Dr. Tejinder Bhatti and Dr. Radha Palakurthi are recommended by our community. Take some time to review patient and clinic results on our forum. There are many excellent examples of their work.
