Advice for Hair Loss Sufferers Considering Hair Transplant Surgery

My Story

  1. Dear community, This is a 35 year old gentleman who had an FUE procedure done in July 2020 . He is a NW 6 pattern with a family history of the same. His donor area is moderately good with some midline dipping in the back. We did around 3411 grafts for both the frontal and midscalp zones to add definition and density. A planned second stage for the crown was proposed a year after the initial surgery. Photos were taken at around 11 months from surgery. Patient placed on finasteride 1 mg on alternate days. Surgical details: FUE 0.8 mm punch Hairline 407 refined single hairs 3004 multiple grafts Average of 2.6 hairs/graft. Sites made using 0.8 mm and 1.4 mm Sapphire blades. 2. Dear community, This is a 31year old gentleman who had an FUE procedure done on July 5th 2020 . He is a NW 6 pattern with a family history of the same. His donor area is moderately good with a good calibre. We did around 3398 grafts for both the frontal and midscalp zones to add definition and density. He is a very reasonable gentleman in terms of not wishing to pursue the crown at this stage. Photos were taken at around 8 months from surgery. Patient placed on finasteride 1 mg on alternate days. Surgical details: FUE 0.8 mm punch Hairline 427 refined single hairs 2971 multiple grafts Average of 2.19 hairs/graft. Sites made using 0.8 mm and 1.4 mm Sapphire blades. Surgical photos: (8 months from surgery )
  3. This is a 25 yer old gentleman with a NW 5 pattern and a family history of the same. He has been placed on finasteride for a year priori to the procedure and we then elected to transplant his frontal zone and parts of his Mid scalp. No crown work was done given his age. A total of 3253 grafts were transplanted with 400 refined single hair grafts for the hairline. His average hairs per follicle was 2.45. I saw him recently and he is exactly 4 months since his procedure. I guess he is one of those fast growers so I thought to share the progress. Looking forward to the next few months for hopefully a great result. Pre surgery: Immediately after : 1 Month: 4 months:
  4. Hi guys, I’m 31 and I’m a Norwood 5 going on 6, I’ve started finasteride and minoxidil today to see if it makes a difference as I’ll be looking to do a hair transplant next summer. 5. Dear community, This is a 27 year old gentleman who had his FUE HT done in December 2020 . He is a NW 6 with a family history of the same. He has been placed on finasteride for 6 months prior to surgery almost. We decided to attempt a two staged coverage. We started with the Frontal and midscalp areas initially with around 3141 grafts. Photos were taken recently around 6 months from surgery. Surgical details: FUE 0.9 mm punch Hairline 577 refined single hairs 1: 577 2: 1233 3: 1148 4 and over: 183 Total: 3141 with an average of 2.39 hairs/graft. 6. Dr. Barghouthi is an excellent choice, one of the most ethical surgeons I know.
  7. I did, they told me the operation was a ‘success’ and I eventually managed to get them to agree to a whole £200 but then had an NDA thrown at me with all sorts of nonsense written into it. Well I was not signing anything like that for such a measley sum and I would very much like to continue to deter anyone from going through this in the future. I have in the meantime been in discussion with Dr Barghouthi who I must say has been very kind and helpful in my conversations with him. I have booked for later this year, pending any update to travel restrictions.
  8. Dear community, This is a 43 year old Lady who was complaining of a prominent and enlarged forehead since birth. She had a total of 1675 FUE grafts in early October 2020. Her initial glabella to hairline distance was around 9 cm and this was lowered to 6.8 cm. We needed a decent number but her density per cm2 was average of around 70 follicles/ cm2. FUT was advised but she insisted on having an FUE with a bigger than average shave of the donor as she had long hair to cover. Surgical details: FUE 0.9 mm motorized hybrid punch Hairline 350 refined single hairs 2's: 820 3's: 402 4's: 103 Average hairs/graft: 2.15 Sites made using 0.8 mm and 1.3 mm Sapphire blades. 10. Dear community, This is a 27 year old gentleman who had a previously repaired Cleft Lip as a child. He had a resulting scar and gap in his upper lip Philtrum. We extracted 288 Fue grafts using a 0.8 mm motorized punch. We dissected them into 496 single and double hairs only and transplanted them. Recipient sites were made using 0.8 and 1.0 mm sapphire blades. These are results 5 months after surgery. Microlines Fue: Microlines Fue: 10 days:
  11. Dear community, This is a 48 year old gentleman who was complaining of diffuse thinning in the frontal, mid scalp and crown regions of the scalp. He was commenced on finasteride on alternate days prior to surgery and areas of the Hairline, frontal zone, mid scalp and crown were transplanted to give a more homogenous look. The entire crown was not restored at this stage yet, but only parts of the anterior crown. 14. Dear community, This is a 45 year old gentleman who had his FUE HT done in AUG 2020 . He is a NW4 with a family history of the same. His donor area is good with good hair calibre. We did a procedure to target the frontal areas and to add some density to the crown. Photos were taken at around 8 months from surgery. Patient placed on finasteride 1 mg alternate days. Surgical details: FUE 0.9 mm punch Hairline 427 refined single hairs 3000 multiple grafts Total: 3427 with an average of 2.18 hairs/graft. Sites made using 0.8 mm and 1.4 mm Sapphire blades.

  16. Great job Dr. Barghouthi. Very natural. How many grafts does this patient have left via fue?
  17. Dear community, This is a pleasant 27 year old lady who had an FUE procedure done on August 9th 2020 . She has been always conscious of her prominent forehead and somehow elevated hairline ever since childhood. Her examination and scalp tests showed no concern regarding scarring alopecias. Her donor was of a moderate density of 70 FU/cm2 on average. Follicular counts showed an everage of 2.01 hairs/follicle. Photos were taken at around 7 months from surgery. As we all know I do expect further growth and maturity of her hairline. She is extremely happy with her new hairline and so am I. It is very important to remember while hairline recessions in men aren't ideal, it is a completely different psychological battle in females. it is indeed a pleasure giving her such a hairline back. Surgical details: FUE 0.8 mm punch Hairline 350 refined single hairs 1054 multiple grafts Average of 2.01 hairs/graft. Sites made using 0.8 mm and 1.3 mm Sapphire blades. 7 months photos
  18. Dear community, This is a 43 year old gentleman who had a limited FUE procedure done on June 29th 2020 . He is a NW 3V with a family history of the same. His donor area is good with good hair calibre. He was concerned about the see through effect in his crown and also some thinning and recessions in the hairline. We did around 1800 grafts for both the frontal and crown zones to add definition and density. He is a very reasonable gentleman in terms of not wishing to lower the hairline too much or add anything that could be "unnatural" looking Photos were taken at around 8 months from surgery. Patient placed on finasteride 1 mg alternate days. Surgical details: FUE 0.9 mm punch Hairline 352 refined single hairs 1482 multiple grafts Average of 2.62 hairs/graft. Sites made using 0.8 mm and 1.4 mm Sapphire blades. Before and immediately after After photos:
  19. Dear community, This is a 41 year old gentleman who had his FUE HT done 4 months ago (July 2020). He is a NW 6with a family history of the same. His donor area is good with good hair calibre. We decided to attempt full coverage of the Frontal, midscalp and crown areas initially with around 4500 grafts. He understands that he most likely will require another session to add density to the areas. Surgical details: FUE 0.9 mm punch Hairline 400 refined single hairs unrefined singles: 156 4044 Doubles , triples and quadruples. Total: 4600 with an average of 2.76 hair/graft. Sites made using 0.8 mm and 1.3 mm Sapphire blades. Density of around 45-35 follicles/unit I'm happy with his fast growth so far. I am even happier with his donor area. I think should he need further coverage he could really end up with a fully restored NW 6. Presurgical Photos: Planning: Immediately after: 10 Days: 4 Months:
  20. Dear valued members, physicians, and visitors of our community, As some of you know, Dr. Taleb Bargouthi @DrTBarghouthi has been participating in our forum for quite some time now and has earned a strong reputation on our forum to answer patient questions and produce excellent patient results. The feedback we have received has been positive. Dr. Taleb Bargouthi has been presenting several cases for a while now, and his patients have been posting impressive results for quite some time. We are now considering him for a potential recommendation. This requires that he meet our community standards of performing not only quality follicular unit grafting with excellent results but also the capacity to perform large sessions of ultra-refined follicular unit grafting. Not all good quality clinics have cultivated the skill and staff to meet these standards consistently, with good growth and quality results. Recommended physicians must also be willing to operate in a transparent and accountable way, knowing that their patients may be reviewing them publicly within hours of surgery. We feel that transparency builds trust and accountability. We believe Dr. Taleb Bargouthi is worthy of our recommendation. Dr. Taleb Barghouthi is a graduate of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. Following graduation, he completed his Basic Surgical Training in Dublin and obtained his Intercollegiate Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons. He then pursued a Higher surgical training in Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery at the same college. Dr. Barghouthi developed an interest in the advancing field of Surgical Hair Restoration while in Ireland. Dr. Bargouthi attended a dedicated ISHRS fellowship program in Hair Transplant Surgery in the United States and Poland, where he gained considerable knowledge in both Follicular Unit Strip Surgery (FUSS) and Follicular Unit Excision (FUE). Only 5 approved programs globally offer such dedicated training in the field. Dr. Barghouthi has been practicing hair transplant surgery exclusively for the last 7 years. His clinic, centrally located in the middle east in Amman- Jordan (Vertex Hair Clinic), has been operating and offering hair transplant surgeries exclusively since 2016. Since operating in Jordan, most requests have been for FUE procedures, and this comprises 85- 90% of Dr. Bargouthi's work. Dr. Bargouthi operates exclusively on one patient per day, and a typical session is 2000-2500 grafts per day. Larger sessions are done over two consecutive days. Dr. Bargouthi personally sees all consultations. Dr. Taleb Bargouthi Surgical Protocol As for surgical protocol, he personally discusses and draws the hairline, prepares the donor and recipient areas, performs all of the extractions and strip harvesting, and makes all recipient sites. His senior technicians will then perform the implantations under his supervision for all cases. Dr. Bargouthi team consists of 3 senior hair technicians in addition to the doctor. Together, his team has over 25 years of experience in hair restoration surgery. Dr. Bargouthi utilizes microscopic dissection and preparation/refinement of hair follicles for FUSS and FUE. Dr. Bargouthi's office follows up with all their patients for the first 10 days, at 1 month, and then every 3 months until the results have fully manifested. Dr. Bargouthi uses a motorized extraction device with punch sizes ranging from 0.8-0.9 mm. Dr. Bargouthi uses minimally invasive recipient site blades. His team exclusively dissects single-haired grafts for the hairline's transitional zone, with both macro and micro irregularities necessary to mimic nature. Dr. Bargouthi performs dense-pack sessions ranging from 35-55 FU/cm2 depending on the end goals, donor quality, and hair loss type. Dr. Bargouthi has also devised his own modified anesthesia technique, which was recently presented at the World Congress of hair restoration surgery. The paper is due for publication in the next issue of the ISHRS forum journal. As for FUSS procedures, he performs a double layer trichophytic closure and microscopic dissection. Dr. Barghouthi is a full member of the International Society for Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS) and a committee member of its membership committee. He is a surgeon member of the Trichological Society. Dr. Bargouthi actively participates and presents in hair related meetings and conferences. In addition to conventional hair transplantation, he performs body hair transplants (BHT), Beard and eyebrow transplantation, scar revisions, Scalp micro-pigmentation (SMP), customized hair systems, and other non-surgical treatments for hair loss and scalp disorders. Below are some examples of his work. 21. Hello everyone, I am a 30 year old dentist. I have been suffering with some hairline and frontal area loss for around 4 years. I have been using finasteride for he last 2 years with no problems. I have a good family history of hairloss, with only one member of the family having a limited frontal loss. I know my hairloss is not too dramatic but compared to what it has been , to me I felt that the receding hairline is significant. I live in Jordan and due to the slower pace of work during the covid-19 pandemic, I decided to undergo my Hair transplant 2 weeks ago. I have been researching for doctors locally and in Turkey as it is close by, but being in a medical profession, I was reluctant to travel to go to Turkey, especially after hearing so many stories about the procedure being a hit and miss in many clinics. I did my research locally and decided to do the procedure with Dr. Taleb Barghouthi at Vertex hair clinic. I had consulted him last winter and received a good feeling about him and his work. I also met and talked to few of his clients and was reassured. In a way I was kind of pushing myslef to do it too as I know this time period was going to be suitable for me in terms of recovery. I am extremely pleased with the progress so far, although it is only a couple of weeks since my procedure. I personally participate in forums myself as a dentist, posting my work and results and when I asked the doctor if there is anything similar to this for hair transplant, he informed me of this website. I felt it was worth writing about my experience. I was told I need around 2500 grafts (FUE) to lower my hairline and restore my loss in the region. After following the pre-surgical instructions and a waiting period of around 8 weeks, I managed to take up a late cancellation spot. The procedure started at 8 with some check ups, medications and surgical planning. Dr. Taleb drew my hairline, shaved the donor area and the area where the new grafts will go. We then started with the extraction process after giving in the local anaesthetic. There was slight discomfort with the anaesthesia, but then everything went completely numb. The extraction process was done completely by him. He was doing all the punching and his assistant was removing the punched grafts using forceps. She is quite senior I could tell. I thought she was a medical doctor as she seemed so knowledgeable and experienced and could answer most questions about the procedure. The extraction took around 2.5-3 hours in total. there was one or two other technicians using microscopes and counting and checking grafts in an extended area of the procedure room. I was continuously hearing numbers and I realized later that they were sorting out the grafts by the number of hairs in it and checking each one. I was then bandaged and anesthesized in the front. Lunch was ordered and the channels in the front were made by the Dr. himself as well. After a nice lunch break, the senior technician and another technician started placing the grafts with Dr. Taleb being in and out. He placed few of the grafts while making the channels to check that the size of the channels wasnt too small or too wide as he mentioned. The implantation process took over two hours. i took a short break in between. i was falling asleep and watching Netflix in the meantime. When everything was done, I got the instructions discussed by the Dr. and was scheduled a hair wash the next day and at day 10. My recovery phase was fairly smooth. Some itching at times which I used aloe vera/ olive oil for. I had very minimal swelling as I was asked to use ice, head recline and oral steroids for few days. This was all clearly provided by them and labeled by the day. I must say I had a very positive experience. It's important to feel at ease and I certainly did with the Dr. and his staff. they give you the full attention with not much going on apart from my surgery. They do book one surgery per day and the atmosphere is quite relaxed and un rushed. Surgery details: Total grafts: 2480 SIngle hairs: 379 Hairs / follicle ratio: 2.99 (which is apparently high) Photos before: Donor 1- 2 days: 10 days:
  22. I spent a couple of weeks last year looking for the best doctor in the region for a beard and hair transplant. Traveling abroad was on the table until my cousin recommended Dr. Taleb Barghouthi in Amman. After reading more about him and seeing at the results from previous patients, I decided to schedule a consultation appointment. That was when the journey began and I would like to think about it as a three-step process: 1) Consultation , 2) Surgery and 3) Results. Consultation: When I first visited Dr. Barghouthi’s Vertex clinic I had so many questions; specifically regarding the beard as I was nervous about the aftermath of the surgery on my face. Dr. Barghouthi walked me through the process step-by-step, addressed all of questions and showed me the results of previous patients. When we reached to the point of discussing my hair-transplant, he asked me all the relevant questions about my age and family history. After examining my hair-loss pattern he recommended that I wait for another 1-2 years before I do a hair transplant as he wanted to make sure the pattern stays the same and does not extend to the donor area. I was really surprised as most of the doctors I consulted with recommended that I do it immediately. Based on his recommendation I decided to schedule a surgery for my beard and follow-up with him frequently over the next year for my hair. Looking back now I strongly believe that was the best scenario which guaranteed better results and a more informed decision. Last week and after 1.5 years I did my hair transplant at Vertex and I will be sharing the results once it starts showing in a different post. Surgery: I was very well prepared of the surgery due to the detailed instructions I received over the previous weeks. The surgery went very well, as Dr. Barghouthi performs and oversees every step of the surgery and has a fantastic team of nurses and supporting staff. Results: I will let the pictures speak for themselves; the results of ~1,400 FUE after 6 months and after 1.5 years (the last two pictures were taken last week during my hair transplant surgery). I strongly recommend Vertex and Dr. Barghouthi to any patient who is looking for great results and a flawless process.
  23. My beard isn’t great to be honest, it is patchy in places. Thank you. I’ve also messaged Vertex/Dr.Barghouthi and HDC
  24. Dear Community, This is the case of a 32 year old with NW stage 6. He underwent a hair transplant FUE procedure on June 1st 2020. We had an extensive discussion about the goals and he was mainly interested in a natural look with an improved NW scale and so no crown work was done. His donor area is average with an average hair calibre. We decided to go for a higher number of grafts yet not adding any to the crown at this stage given his age and desires/expectations. The surgical details are as follow: Date: June 1st 2020 Total grafts: 4973 FUE grafts Hairs/Graft avg: 2.14 Singles: 450 refined singles for the hairline Meds: Finasteride 1 mg alternate days. Punch used: 0.8 mm ( 4mm length) serrated punch Recipient sites: 0.9 mm and 1.2 mm Sapphire blades. Results 7 months from surgery: Before: Top View after: Donor area before surgery: You can notice an average density
  25. Dear community, This is a 48 year old gentleman with a NW 7 pattern. He underwent an FUE procedure almost 2 years ago. He has been on minoxidil and Low level light therapy since. Not keen on using finasteride ever. He has a significant FHx of NW7. In fact his sons are starting to develop MPHL at this stage. He was keen on trying to cover as much of the area as possible. We did 2 surgeries that were around 12 months apart. The first procedure addressed the frontal zone and Midscalp and the subsequent one was for the crown. Surgery 1: 3370 grafts of which 350 were refined singles hairs. Motorized sharp 0.85 mm punch Sapphire blades: 0.9mm and 1.3 mm Surgery 2: 12 months after: 1250 scalp grafts. We considered taking some beard grafts but he chose to keep that option for subsequent times if needed. Total: 4620 He continues to use minoxidil and LLLT. He uses Toppik occasionally on the crown , but was washed prior to coming for follow up photos. He may consider further surgery down the line or SMP for further density illusion.
