  17. FUT performed on a 45 year old Caucasian male with: - NW Class III-IV - Donor density of 84 FU/cm2 - Hair diameter of ~83 microns Treatment plan: A follicular unit strip transplantation with 3000-3500 follicular units to restore the hair line, temporal peaks and central core, add density to the bridge Performed procedure (November 10, 2009): A Follicular Unit Strip Transplantation with 3180 FU * 950 single hair FU * 1520 double hair FU * 710 triple hair FU Donor closing in 2mm lower edge Trichophytic Closure Technique (double layer suture); Cutting Edge blades of 0.75 mm – 1.05 mm; Dense packing technique with a density of 40-50 FU/cm2 in the hair line and feather zone (single units), a density of 30-40 FU/cm2 in the central core (double units) and a density of 25 FU/cm2 in the bridge (triple units). Dr. B. Feriduni
  18. FUT performed on a 36 year old Caucasian male with: - NW V Class N - Donor density of 70-80 FU/cm? - Hair diameter of >75 microns Treatment plan: - 1st procedure with 2500-3000 follicular units to reconstruct the hair line and central core - 2nd procedure with 3000 follicular units to reconstruct the bridge, vertex and add density to the overall result - Medical therapy with finasteride 1mg 1st procedure (January 5th, 2005): A Follicular Unit Strip Transplantation with 2834 FU * 876 single hair FU * 1547 double hair FU * 411 triple hair FU 2nd procedure (April 18th, 2006): A Follicular Unit Strip Transplantation with 1876 FU * 666 single hair FU * 882 double hair FU * 328 triple hair FU Unfortunately it was only possible to transplant 1876 FU instead of 3000 FU during the 2nd procedure due to the lack of flexibility in the donor area. Therefore a 3rd procedure had to be performed in order to achieve the required amount of follicular units. 3rd procedure (October 5th, 2007): A Follicular Unit Strip Transplantation with 1720 FU * 918 single hair FU * 712 double hair FU * 90 triple hair FU The patient did not return for a check-up after his 3rd procedure until November 2010. He returned to our clinic to discuss the possibility of adding more density to the bridge and vertex in a new procedure. His next procedure is scheduled for March 2011. Dr. B. Feriduni
  19. Thanks everyone for your compliments on this patient 's result, it has indeed improved his life in a substantial way! We were gobsmacked when he came to our office for his 8 month check-up and pleased to see the hair transplant turned out to be a great succes as it is always a bit more risky to transplant into scar tissue. I will certainly post another foundation case in the near future. To RCWest : the overall density varies between 40-60 FU/cm2 Best regards, Dr. B. Feriduni
  20. This patient was recommended by the burns unit of the Rotterdam‘s hospital and visited our clinic for the first time in December 2008. He suffered from severe scarring (grade III) at the frontal and left part of the scalp and left eyebrow due to a burning incident with sunflower oil. His health insurance refused to cover the costs of a reconstructive surgery so he became a ‘foundation’ patient. Treatment plan of the four-step surgical procedure: 1. The first surgical procedure involves the insertion of a skin expander (Silimed skin expander, 600ml) as a preparation for a scalp reduction in the left fronto-temporal region. 2. A scalp reduction in the left fronto-temporal region to reduce the recipient area. 3. A Follicular Unit Strip Transplantation with 2000 FU to reconstruct the left fronto-temporal region and left eyebrow 4. An eyebrow reconstruction with 200 FU to add density to the left eyebrow (in 1-2 Follicular Unit Transplantations) Performed procedures: 1. The insertion of a skin expander (September 1st, 2009) 2. The expander was already removed after 6 weeks due to a skin infection caused by the staphylococcus aureus bacteria. A ‘minor’ scalp reduction was performed afterwards (December 12th, 2009) Due to the infection we were compelled to change the treatment plan of the Follicular Unit Strip Transplantation into 2500-3000 FU instead of 2000 FU 3. A Follicular Unit Strip Transplantation was performed to redesign the left hair line, left temporal points and left temporal region (March 4th, 2010) with : § 1046 single hair follicular units § 1463 double hair follicular units § 375 triple hair follicular units The patient has suffered both mentally and physically from his burning injuries. He is now at a stage that his hair looks good again and that we only need to add density to his left eyebrow. He still needs to undergo several facial skin treatments at the burns unit of the Rotterdam’s hospital but he already feels a lot more confident now. Dr. Bijan Feriduni
  21. FUT performed on a 40 year old Caucasian male with: - NW Class V-VI - Donor density of 110 FU/cm2 - Hair diameter of > 85 microns Treatment plan: Follicular Unit Transplantation with 4000-5000 follicular units to restore the hair line, temporal peaks and mid head and crown area. Performed procedure (February 23, 2009): A Follicular Unit Strip Transplantation with 4460 FU * 1680 single hair FU * 2040 double hair FU * 740 triple hair FU Donor closing in 1mm lower edge Trichophytic Closure Technique (double layer suture); A combination of parallel (single units) and perpendicular incisions (double and triple units) in custom-sized blades technique (~Cutting Edge blades of 0.7mm – 1.1mm). This patient decided to step over to a hair restoration surgery after wearing a full hair piece for many years. The patient‘s aim was a high density Follicular unit Transplantation (HD FUT) to obtain a “similar” density to his hair piece. Unfortunately full coverage was not possible even with a high flexibility of the donor area and over average density of 110 FU/cm2. So he decided to wear a smaller hair piece after 1st procedure to cover up the non-treated areas. After he saw the result of the first procedure he decided to go for a second procedure to cover the crown area as well. Treatment plan : 2nd procedure with 3500-4000 FU to add more density to the hair line and restore the crown area Performed procedure (July 12, 2010): A Follicular Unit Strip Transplantation with 3969 FU * 990 single hair FU * 1728 double hair FU * 841 triple hair FU * 610 four hair FU Donor closing in 1mm lower edge Trichophytic Closure Technique (double layer suture); A combination of parallel (single units) and perpendicular incisions (double, triple and four hair units) in custom-sized blades technique (~Cutting Edge blades of 0.7mm – 1.1mm). Dr. B. Feriduni
  22. To nsuede : I have added pictures of this patient with a shaved scalp, taken more than 1 year after his first FUE procedure, so you will be able to observe the micro-scarring. Highly important to prevent a moth eaten effect is the punchsize, in my opinion the punchsize may never exceed 0.95mm. In this patient 's case I used punches with sizes 0.8mm (to extract the single hair FU), 0.85mm (double hair FU) and 0.9mm (triple hair FU) Hopefully this information may somehow be of any help! Best regards, Dr. B. Feriduni
  23. FUT performed on a 24 year old Caucasian female with: - Donor density of ca. 90 FU/cm? - Hair diameter of ca. 60-70 microns Treatment plan: A Follicular Unit Strip Transplantation with 1800-2000 FU to restore the entire hair line zone. Performed procedures - July 7, 2008: A Follicular Unit Strip Transplantation with 1982 FU * 779 single hair FU * 982 double hair FU * 221 triple hair FU Donor closing in 1mm lower edge Trichophytic Closure technique. Against my advice and personal preference this patient wanted to lower her hair line to this extent, even though I have tried to convince her a number of times against this hair line design. Against my expectations the result looked really good at the end. Dr. B. Feriduni
