  1. Mrjb, Thank you for your comments, but are you seriously confused as to why someone would want numerical proof that a drug is working ? Maybe I'm just overly analytical here, but having numbers to compare would be much more valuable to me than just looking at pictures and wondering if things look better because of lighting, or how my hair was parted, or the angle of the camera, etc on the day the pictures were taken. Yes, I am concerned with appearance, but if the drug is only slightly increasing the thickness of existing hairs or only working to slightly slow down my hair loss, then I doubt my eyes would be able to determine this and thus I may incorrectly believe that the drug is/is not working because my eyes and pictures are not exact tools for measuring this (or anything).
  2. I'm looking for a couple of doctors in Southern California (San Diego would be best) who prescribe Propecia AND will do routine hair counts on patients (monthly, quarterly, etc.). I've called a couple doctors here in SD, and the receptionists said the doctors there can write prescriptions for the drug, but do NOT do individual hair counts. When I asked how do they measure the effectiveness of the drug (i.e. Propecia in this case) for an individual patient, they said they take pictures and compare those pictures. That doesn't seem like a very exact method of measuring the effectiveness of a drug for a particular individual to me. There was a place I was talking to where I use to live and they did do actual hair counts by circling the same 4-5 locations and measuring the number of Vellus and Terminal hairs from month to month in those same locations. Therefore, the patient and Dr. could numerically determine the effectiveness of the drug for that patient and showed which particular types of hair the drug was improving (i.e. Vellus or Terminal). Does anyone here know of any physicians that will actually do hair counts to measure the effectiveness of Propecia (and/or other drugs) in San Diego or another So. Cal. location? Thanks.

  4. csofrank, M&M, and JakeVig Do any of you have any updated pictures within the past month or so? I am really impressed with the hairlines that both Shapiros have created and am considering contacting their clinic. Are all of you satisfied with the outcome (thickness, location of the hairline, limited scarring of donor area)? Also, do any of you have pictures of the donor area(s)? I'm wondering how it healed and if it is easily visible with short hair. Thanks!
  5. Big1, Do you have any pictures of what your hairline looks like now? Thanks.
  6. Pat, When you say "given that the same staff does the cutting and placing this tends to standardize the procedure", then what does the actual doctor do during surgery? Is it normal that the actual doctor NOT do any of those things? I was under the impression that the doctor would be creating the slits and placing the the grafts in (but not necessarily cutting up the individual grafts).
  7. HK500, Are you happy with Dr. Siporin's work so far? Are the transplanted hairs coming in nicely at this stage? How much did Dr. Siporin charge for your procedure? Also, did he personally perform it or some other doctor in the office? Thanks!
  8. newhairguy, I am in the SoCal area too and would like to know who did your transplant, where, when? Any pictures? Thanks.
  9. Alex, Which doctor @ NHI did your surgery? Thanks!
  10. mel, If you're still around, who did you go with? How was the experience? jgf, Are you still satisfied with the results? Do you have any pictures? How many grafts did you get and where? Would you recommend him to others?
  11. AC, If you are still around, are you still satisfied with your results? Do you have any pictures you could post? Also, how many grafts did you get, where, and how much did everything cost? Thanks, So. Cal. potential patient
  12. lightning1, I don't know if you're still around, but are you satisfied with the results? I get the impression that when you signed up for the procedure that you didn't know which doctor you would get (i.e. either Dr. Pak or Dr. Rassman), is this correct? Thanks.
  13. Pat, I would like to know if during your visit to Dr. Rassman's offices, you witnessed any procedures being performed by Dr. Jae Pak or saw any patients who were operated on by Dr. Pak? I'd like to go with Dr. Rassman himself, but his price of $10 is too much for me to handle considering other posters here indicate that a price between $4-$4.50 is considered normal. Based on Rassman's site I am assuming: 1.) The "Standard Fee" of $6/graft is work done by Dr. Jae Pak. 2.) The "Rassman fee" of $10/graft is obviously Dr. Rassman's work. Also, has Dr. Jae Pak been "ordained" into the coalition or just Dr. Rassman? Lastly, has anyone on this forum actually had a transplant(s) from any of those So. Cal. doctors that Pat mentioned (Dr. James DeYarman, Dr. Bill Reed, Dr. Steven Chang, Dr. Bill Rassman, Dr. Ken Siporin and Dr. Paul Straub.)? If so, what has been your experience(s)? Thanks!
