  1. thanks why oh why! I use the foam. previously i used the liquid but recently switched to the foam version. I feel rogaine has caused the regrowth because i have been on propecia for 2 years & did not see much of growth. thanks jupiter! went thru your blog as well, your hair also seems to have improved a great deal! hope you too get good growth..
  2. thanks for all the replies! I had been on propcia for 2 years & did not see any growth, most of this growth maybe because of rogaine which i started 6 months back. hopefully it will keep on improving @dewayne -- i am 25 years old.. @Janna -- thanks for the comments. not sure if you remember me, we exchanged a few private messages, shapiro is & has been my choice always, i will wait out for some more time to see how my hairloss progresses & then consider a HT with you guys thanks Bill & peaceful_lion! @dabuski -- you brought up my main concern. i am a diffuse thinner, slight recession at the temples. my hairline is pretty much stable with diffuse thinning behind it. its not that bad as such. propecia/rogaine combination has halted the progresion. One thing i have noticed is that my hairline/temples have become softer once i started on propecia/rogaine. not sure if its just the natural balding pattern or if propecia had anything to do with it?
  3. I have been on propecia for close to 2 years now. I never really noticed my crown & dont have many before pictures. I started rogaine 6 months back & my crown is filling up! I generally hate looking back at my crown & had not looked back there since an year. The crown has improved tremendously! The length of the hair is pretty much the same in both the pictures. Wish I had taken few more pics before starting both rogaine & propecia! but i can defenitely feel the thickness improving what do you guys think?

  5. its_going_fast, In a week or two if it grows out a bit then you can use a combo of rogaine, toppik & dermmatch. I have a similar hairloss as you do ( with a lot more native hair ). You can start by applying the dermmatch, little bit. then apply rogaine to the hair. the rogaine will act like a gel & hold hairs which are far apart together. Now sprinkle the toppik fibers on top to complete it. This will give u a better look. works for me, although i am a NW4, can pretty much hide all of loss using this procedure. good luck!
  6. Hi guys! had a few questions I recently went to a follow up consult with Dr. Pak ( had been to him 2 years back & he put me on propecia ). He measured the degree of miniaturization or something & said that it has improved a great deal! not seen ny of his work on this forum but would appreciate some comments from somebody who has been to him he said my donor area is not that great but lesser number of grafts would be needed to help my diffuse thinning, but he was worried with shock loss & told me it would be tough to predict! ( which really scares me since i have considerable native hair ) also is it possible to keep your hair really short after the transplant & further( using demrmatch to hide the scar ). I like the receding look with short hair... my hairline is very low & i have really good density in my hairline with diffuse thinning behind the hairline. i am not really sure if this is good or bad because 1 way i don't need any work for my hairline where as more grafts would be needed to fill the space behind my low hairline. also, demrmatch works great for me but it always looks better the next day of application which is totally weird! great forum guys! keep the good work going!

  8. guys, check this link & the video. they seem to be really excited about the stem cell research & say its not far off. In the article check out the number of people who want to sign up! http://allday.msnbc.msn.com/archive/2008/01/29/617362.aspx

  10. hi guys, i have come across a lot of reasons for hair loss. things like wearing caps, warm water, stress, do these actually cause hair loss??? well, i guess there are 2 kinds of people. one set who have the genes for hair loss & the others who dont. Everytime i fell sick or was subjected 2 stress over a period of time i lost hair. this is because some of my hairs had become thin & were about to fall out. since i hv the gene for hair loss i wld lose hair which have become thin ( even if it means my hair gets roughed up when i wear a cap) Taking propecia has made a difference. hairs which were thin have thickened up. i had an abdominal surgery 10 months back & have kept the same amount of hair ever since ( the surgery did not accelerate my hairloss). maybe propecia helped so that hairs which were once thin & on their way out made it thru. ( atleast for now ) my point is ( from personal expereince), if u hv signs of baldness thn reduce instances where u fall sick, are under stress & similar things( ofcourse, along with getting on the big 3). maybe wash ur hair in a careful manner, ask ur hair stylist 2 be not so aggresive whn dealin with ur hair. this way, atleast u can delay baldness & not accelerate it. hope my logic makes sense
  11. guys, just wanted to know if one temple recedes faster than the other. does the slower temple catch up at a later point of time? this is because one side of my temple has receded probably an inche more than the other. wanted to know others experiences on this. do both the temples recede at the same rate or do they recede unevenly & then catch up. also, does this hold any significance?

  13. hey ng2gb, you could start the medicines & then stop them if you see ny sides. half life of finasteride is 6-8 hours based on which the drug would be out of ur system within a couple of days once u stop it. since so many people take it without sides & have had success stories, its worth a try. as jfo mentioned, i too use rogaine once a day during nights. since diffuse thinners r more prone to shock loss, it is better to try the medicines before goin for a HT. u don wanna run the risk of losin ur native hair after the transplant.
  14. ng2gb, i would seriously recommend u try propecia. i am a diffuse thinner as well & propecia has definitely halted my hair loss. by halting what i mean is.. almost no hairs on my pillow. less hairs comin out when shampooing or combing. & i took pictures to make sure I had the same amount of hair before/after starting propecia. I have experienced some coverage on my crown which is good enough for me because i just have general thinning on some parts of my crown. propecia definitely thickens up thinning hair given my diffuse thinning, if the individual native hairs thicken up then i can achieve good coverage without a HT. this is the goal
  15. just wanted to knw what was the experience of diffuse thinners who have had a hair transplant. i know shockloss is a major concern but did the doctors have any special techniques to minimize the shock loss? like placing lesser number of grafts or placing them far from the thinning hair? basically, how differently would a diffuse thinner be looked at by the doctor?

  17. StillHaveHair, I went through a similar kind of experience that you have currently. searched for answers everywhere! I am 24 & my hair loss matches with what you are describing. I did not want to accept genetic balding but eventually did. So, accept the hairloss & get on propecia, it definitely helps. my hairloss has stopped & i can see minor growth on the crown.
  18. dhoose, Bill, thanks for the info. jus wanted to assure myself that am not the only one with this kinda balding pattern frankly speakin, i wld have rather gone bald in the usual MPB. this diffuse thinning is so hard to manage. u have a greater chance for shock loss if u go for a hair transplant. its tough to style as well. i have been on propecia for 5 months now & although no growth has occurred, shedding has definitely stopped.
  19. Hi dhoose75, my apologies for posting the question in such an abstract manner. I had been to a hair restoration specialist recently & he said that the pattern of hairloss I had could be recorded using somethin called savin density & not the norwood pattern. he said I was a number 3 on the savin density scale. I googled it & found it to be similar to the female type of hair loss. Just wanted to know if any of you guys had come across this? if so, did you hv any success with propecia or rogaine?
  20. guys, any thoughts abt savin density? do the same medications work? it seems similar to female type thinning.

  22. Hi guys, My question is regarding the frontal hairline. I have diffuse thinning on the top of my scalp but my frontal lobe is fine. the thinning does not seem to have affected the hair on my hairline. just half an inch behind my hairline I have diffuse thinning. Only a top view of my scalp will tell you that I am balding where as a front view will hide all the thinning. I dont understand how, of all the hair on the scalp, the frontal hair can be resistant to factors causing thinning. also, since i have thinning on top of my scalp except the frontal region can i safely say that I have atleast a 51% chance that the hair present in this region would not fall out???

  24. Thanks for all the suggestions guys. concealers work well for me. 1 thing I cant seem to understand is my front hairline is fine, which totally puzzles me! its because of my frontal hairline people cant say am going bald. Bill, I have been on propecia for an year or so & minox/rogaine for over 3 years. dhoose75,nobuzz4me, I understand what your sayin, I don wanna rush into it as well. I have never had too much hair so I am not lookin for a major cosmetic difference. If I could cover my scalp ( which I can currently using concealers ) tht would be fine andy25irish, I completely sympathise with u man, but jus ignore all the comments wht ppl say. I went through all the phases of teasin & stuff whn I was teenager itself, so don really care wht ppl say now.
  25. Hi all, I am a 24 year male with diffuse thinning. have been on propecia for an year now. I must say that propecia has certainly stopped my hairs from falling. It has helped strengthen my crown. Weirdly enough my frontal hairline has always been good. If you look at me from the front there is no way you can say I am going bald. I have been losing hair right from when I was 19 & am now considering a hair transplant. Few doctors whom I visited put me on propecia to see the effects after an year. Although there has been no regrowth the doctor says the individual hair thickness has increased & it would be safe to do a hair transplant now. Here are a few pics of my scalp. Can you guys help me out? should I go for the transplant or wait for some more time?
