  1. Thanks Bill and drmstx! It may be the native hair that I'm losing and not transplanted hair. I haven't switched back to Propecia yet but hope that doesn't exacerbate the issue somehow.
  2. I recently went generic and starting using Finasteride (cut into 4 pieces). It seems to me that I began losing some of my transplanted hair almost immediately. Has anyone else experienced this issue when switching medications?
  3. What is the typical dosage for finasteride?
  4. I used Dr. Reed from La Jolla and think he's great. I was really happy with the hairline he gave me. Check out my Weblog.
  5. Sorry to join the discussion late but I just updated my weblog with photos which are 30 weeks ( 7 and 1/2 months for the non-mathematicians) post-surgery with Dr. Reed. I'm very happy with the results! I am contemplating a 2nd procedure to get some added thickness and would love comments on what experiences people have had with a round 2. Thanks!
  6. I had my surgery with Dr. Reed and have been very pleased with the entire experience... That is, the consult; the surgery experience and the post-op availability of Dr. Reed. It's a bit early to tell results since I'm only 10 weeks out but I'll keep you apprised as things develop. I have a Web Log with updated 10 week photos.
  7. I'm about 7 weeks out from surgery and have gotten some high school like pimples in the area where I had the transplant. 2 questions: Why does this occur? And what should or should not be done? Also, I continue to have numbness and itching in the transplant area... less so in the donor area although there is still some... Should this be of concern? When should numbness go away? Itching?

  9. Thanks for the feedback guys. Here's another photo from the surgery that will give you a better idea of Dr. Reed's work. I'll post update photos at monthly intervals. Some of the best photos from the surgery were too large to attach but they're posted on my weblog. Also, I'd love to see a Forum dedicated to post-op information. I may have missed it but it seems like an area that doesn't get a lot of focus on this site.
  10. Finally went through with it! Dr. Reed did the of LaJolla, CA did the surgery on May 21. I met with Reed, DeYarman and Rassman. All spent a considerable amount of time with me but my gut was to go with Reed. I had 2575 grafts with appox. 30% 3s, 50% 2s and 20% 1s. I was impressed with the whole process. Reed spent quite a bit of time working on the hair line the day before and the day of... The procedure started about 9:30 and went until 6 pm or so. Still experiencing numbness and the hairs have started falling out. Both normal occurances at this stage -- at least from what I've read on this site. Although I wasn't really prepared for the extent of the numbness. I'm about one month out... so I'm in limbo now until I start seeing some real results in the coming months. I've started a weblog if you want to check it out. I'm also attaching one of the photos taken just after surgery in Reed's office.

  12. Thank you boys. Some really great insights!! I appreciate the thoughtful responses. I've got two consultations coming up. I'll let you know what I decide -- and the results!
  13. I'm not entirely schooled on hair transplantation techniques but I had heard that some surgeons like to do combination grafting where they use follicular units in the bare or very thin areas and double follicular units where the hair is thinning but not as barren. This method supposedly reduces costs but also provides for better coverage in the long term. Any thoughts or comments? Pat, have you heard this from any surgeons?

  15. Thanks for the responses. To answer Cousin It, I'm bald in areas 1 & 2 and thinning heavily in 3. (Not sure how best to describe but I'm referring to the graft calculator model.) I'm 49 and looking to add thickness in the middle and cover more of the 1 and 2 areas so it doesn't look like my face continues to grow northward. I was getting my haircut today and was talking about this to my hairstylist and he said a client came in who had hair replacement surgery and he couldn't tell that it had been done. Rassman had done the work. Anyone work with Reed?
