  1. Mahair, I feel your contrairian point of veiw of HT's on this site is very valuable.I also was a victim with my first transplant years ago.I did'nt do research, and wanted to believe the "Dr" so bad,I did.I wish I had access to a forum like this back in the early 90's.As I progress from my corrective HT,which I am pleased with,I think your post and research make alot of the 20 something kids think twice before going to a "MHR" or a local. Keep up the good work. HK
  2. RMD, I will be complete my 5th month post op tomorrow.I am now starting to see growth.I had old work repaired, and the growth is more significant in the front, where there was no old scarring.I was getting a little restless in month 4 too,but I'm feeling more confident about the potential growth now.Hang in there..
  3. Kevin, I personally think you're to young to consider a HT.I've had 2 HT'S,first one very bad, about 15 years ago, then one earlier this year to correct the mess.{so,all together, about 13k,and if I had it all over to do,I would just shave my head and grow a gotee.I will admit,I am excited about my new HT,but that WAS Corrective surgery.I suggest excersize alot, and concentrate on your health.I was in my young 20's when I started loosing my hair.I weighed over 220 lbs.I decided was was'nt going to be fat and bald and started running.I had to start out at 1 mile a day.I am now a proud veteran of 4 Boston marathons, and weigh 175 at 46. Wait a couple years and be healthy.
  4. ModmanTX, Wow,my heart goes out to you. That sounded rough.I had my HT 4 months ago,{Dr.True-NYC}.He uses a device called the "CompuMed Wand",which he uses to administer the local anesthesia. It is a computer controlled delivery system. It is almost pain free. It was designed by dentist to replace needle injections.Along with valium,it makes the whole process very comfortable. As for "Augmentin",it was not on their list of over 100 oral meds not to take, but I think going into the procedure without anything in your system would be the best route to take.I hope things work out. HK
  5. Mel, I had 1500 fut's done by Dr.True in March.I'm 3.5 months and just starting to see some growth.I also had earlier punch graft repair work done, and I suspect that the scar tissue from the earlier work may be slowing my growth. The experiece with Dr.True was excellent. No pain,no swelling, very comfortable.{By the way Telephone man,are you still consulting for Destafano?}I thought the "Elliot and True" comment was his style.
  6. Robert, Thanks very much for the reply. And I will update progress.Just to clarify my concern;there were recycled grafts used,{from some of the un-sightly plugs that were extracted or thinned},but most of the grafts were from the strip that was used,{new grafts}.My question relates more to the recipient area were "plug scarring" was.It would seem to me that this area would have scar tissue not found in the small area in the front where Dr.True recreated my hair line,{subtle}.I think I'm at the stage where some people get a little ansty, and waiting is your only option... I'm sure my wife will confuse me with Brad Pitt this time next month... Heavy Kevie
  7. As some of you know who have read my earlier post,I had my HT,{1500 FUT's},done by Dr.True in the middle of March.I also had some old punch graft work removed and thinned. My old work consisted of about 200 "plugs" on the vertax/back and top of the scalp. My question is does the new growth take longer when dealing with this type of situation? Is there a blood flow restriction? I am 102 days post-op and see only a few new hairs popping up in the hairline area? Am I just being impatient? As always, thanks for any input... HK

  9. Ionez, I had 1500 FUT's and old punch graft work removed in the middle of March.I'm only at the 3 month mark,so it's too early to judge results.I will say the healing process is going well.My scar is very thin, and turning very light pink now.I do use Mederma on the scars. The process it self was painless, and Dr.True's is very upfront and honest.I drove to NY from Boston, well worth the trip.I would reccomend them, even though my final results are a few months away. HK
  10. Mahair, Your advice to Politik/Guy is right on. I do hope your kidding about the "chicks hate guy's with HT's" remark. If you've read my earlier post you know I had a very bad HT' in the early 90's. I met my wife to be in 91,and told her all about it.She was very understanding. And by the way,my wife is a knock out.{We also have 2 beautiful children now}.So,mabey chicks just hate guy's that have lousy attitudes.....
  11. Mahair, I can relate to your pain.I also can relate to Whallywonka,as the same surgeon did my new HT 8 weeks ago.I looked and felt terrible after my old HT,{1990}.Within 5 years,I had enough continued loss that the plugs were visable.I always wore a hat,and kept my hair as close as I could.I remember the angst of having to find a new barber and tell my story before he cut my hair.My latest HT was painless, and most of the old graft work has been thinned out.I treating the old graft scars with Mederma, and they are going away.I look forward to my new growth. So,I do agree with Wallywhonka, but I have shared some of your pain. HK
  12. FS- You may have seen some of my earlier post, but incase you have not,I'm 2 months post HT with Dr.True. 1500 fu's and thining of earlier punch graft "work". I had the punch graft work done in 89/90.That's 15 years ago,and I have always had some degree of numbness in my scalp.Last year,I bumped my head on metal, causing a bleeding gash, and did not feel it.Perhaps someone can comment if the earlier methods damaged the nerves to a greater degree than the new methods... 13. Notsohairy, I had 1500 fu's done with Dr.True on St.Patty's day.I drove down from Boston,{where I had my consult with him}.He is a gentleman, and very professional.I know that means little in the grand scope of what we're trying to accomplish, but it helps. The procedure it self was very comfortable.I had no pain during, little after, and not one bit of swelling. Dr.True also called me a week and a half later, while he was in Boston, and removed my sutures himself,{his assistant based in Boston was going to do it the next day}.I'm only 7 weeks post op,so no real noticable results yet,but I'm healing well, with just minor shock loss in doner area.He also did a great job of fixing old punch graft work done I had in the early 90's.I'm excited to see what goes on by Summer's end,and very confident I will be happy. 14. Mark, I had 1500 fu's with Dr.True on March 17th.Great experience. No pain,no swelling, and healing well.He also extracted old punch graft work I had done in the early 90's.I had a consult with him in Boston and drove down from central Ma.Well worth the aggrivation of being surrounded by Yankee fan's for a couple of days. 15. As most of you know who have read my post,I'm 6 weeks post op,{1500 fu's}.I asked my Dr. if it was a good idea to start using Rogain,{I have never used it or Propicia before}.His response was "there is no value using minoxidil".I trust my DR. completely, but he may have a different idea what a value is.Will it help if I use it? Is there a big difference between the 2 and 5%? I have never been a big fan of propecia because of potential side effects, known and unknown.I certainly would'nt mind spending 40$ a month if it helped speed and enhance my growth.Any input would be greatly appreciated,as always. Thanks guys.. HK
