  1. Mike...you and I have a lot in common...same age and apparently level of hair loss. I had my procedure 12 days ago...1500 FU's. I did my research also, and found someone I was comfortable with here in the Carolina's. Another thing we have in common is that I also took 10 days off from work. And maybe I'm one of the lucky one's, but you could not tell at ALL that I had anything done 7 days after the surgery. The scabs started falling off at about 4 days, and by 7 days were completely gone. And the transplanted hairs just make my hair look a little thicker now, but again, not a single person has noticed. The new hairs are starting to fall out, which of course is expected. My doctor told me to expect the new growth by Thanksgiving. As for the incision in the back of my head, you can't see it at all either. It's completely hidden by my hair. I have the stiches that dissolve, but they're still there. I wish they would hurry and dissolve because I kinda find myself playing with them...and am afraid of pulling something out. And I was a little nervous the day of the surgery, but I can honestly say there was pretty much no pain. VERY minor needle sticks, but it didn't really hurt. Then I didn't feel a thing. The WORST part of the whole day was having to sit in that chair for so many hours. The doctor had given me Valium, so I had hoped that I would sleep through most of it. But I only dozed off for about 30 minutes...and watched movies the rest of the time. Anyway, thought you might like to hear my experience since you and I seem to have so much in common with this.
  2. Dude...if your surgery was 3 months ago, I don't think there's anything you can do to damage the graphs. I had my surgery 12 days ago, and my doctor told me that after 3 days, the graphs would be set, and after a week, I can resume normal activity. Also, he said the baby shampoo was needed for only a week, not months. As for itching...I have some very minor itching, and like you, it seems to be at each end of the incision. But it hasn't become a bother to me at all, so maybe I'm lucky in this respect.
  3. I had a HT a week and a half ago, and my doctor told me that I should only take Propecia once every 3 days, as the drug stays in the system for that long, and Merch doesn't tell people this because they want to sell as much as possible. I was wondering about other doctors opinions on this. Thanks!

  5. I also had a consultation with MHR in Atlanta...and was not impressed. I didn't even get to talk to a doctor...just a salesman. At the time, I didn't know anything about HT doctors and clinics, but since have leanred that the clinic type places such as MHR are not the best choice. I had a consultation with a doctor in Charlotte, and was very impressed. (I live in SC by the way). I decided to go ahead with the surgery in Charlotte, and had it last Thurs. The scabs are falling off now, and so far I'm very pleased. (although I realize it's still VERY early). I'm sure Atlanta has plenty of reputable doctors, but my opinion is to stay away from the clinics.
  6. Thanks for the reply Gary! I'll do my best to stop "pickin".
  7. I had HT surgery 5 days ago with Dr. Cooley in NC. (could NOT have been more impressed with him and his staff) But my question is this...the little scabs are hardened, and I find it kinda hard not to pick at them. It's become a habit. I'll be watching tv and not even realizing I'm doing it. After 5 days, have the hair follicles had time to get set in with little chance of pulling them out? Or should I just leave them completely alone? Thanks!

  9. Just had my first HT this past Thurs with Dr. Cooley in Charlotte. Of course I don't yet know what the final results are going to be, but I could NOT be more impressed with Dr. Cooley and his staff. Everyone was great. And there was basically no pain. The shots in the back of the head were very minimal. The WORST part of the whole thing is sitting in that chair ALL day. He did have a TV with a VCR, so I watched movies, but by the end of the day, I was about to JUMP out of the chair. I'll post more about this as it progresses.
  10. I read in another post where someone said that most doctors "guarantee" their work, meaning that if they transplants don't grow in, they'll either do it again for free, or offer a refund. The website of the doctor that I plan to use (Dr. Cooley) specifically says that the work is not "quaranteed" because everyone reacts differently to transplants. My question is...should this be a cause for concern? And what about other doctors? Did they offer quarentees? Thanks!

  12. Thanks arfy...I appreciate everyone's comments...both pro and con. I wanna hear everyone's opinions. And I've certainly heard lots.
  13. Sorry...I didn't mean to start a thread that would end up so nasty. I'm just new to all of this...and now more confused than ever. Some say HT's are evil...and some say they changed their lives for the better. I have my first consultation tomorrow, and this doctor IS recommended by this site. I don't want to go to the time and expense of travelling around the country for different consultations...especially is Dr. Cooley is a good one. The problem is...do I trust my judgement, and the judgement of this site? Is that a risk? It's all kinda scarey. But I'm still a RELATIVELY young guy (36), with very thin hair...and if I can do something about it now, then I want to. I still have to attract a mate. (and NO, that's not the real reason I want to do this...it's totally for me)
  14. Can you be a little specific please? What happened, and why do you regret it? Also, did you use a "reputable" doctor? I'd be curious to see who regrets it and who is thrilled. Your reponse makes me even more nervous.
  15. I've been reading on this website and others about FU's and how they're "state of the art" compared to micrographs...but I can't find out the difference. The doctor that I'm having a consultation with (Dr. Cooley, which is a recommended doctor by this website) has a website, and it doesn't say anything about FU. He does use microscopes when disecting the follicles, so is this considered and FU? Any clarification would be appreciated! Thanks!
