Yup you are, forget everything else, get on Finasteride ASAP and stay on it for at least 1 year and then evaluate your results.

Rogaine is meant for the top of your head, just like Finasteride - according to the company anyway. I used Rogaine foam for 2-3 months, I did not see much in terms of results. That is not to say that it doesn't work but Rogaine is just too much effort if you ask me. Are you really okay with using powerfully scented foam on your head twice daily, for the rest of your life?

You don't have to be rich to get the brand name - I get it in from the U.S. from eBay and it costs me just about $50 with shipping, brand new. Whether it works or not is a different question.

You have 2 choices. You can go back to school, earn a decent degree and then earn more as a result. Or you can save up at your current rate. I don't think it is fair to mention the cost for an HT as being $20k, because the cost depends on the clinic and the degree of loss you have. Some of the best clinics (Rahal/H & W) offer just about 5000 grafts for $20k. 5000 grafts is A LOT of grafts, well-above normal and it usually involves NW4-6 patients. So please don't make it seem as $20k is the norm, because it isn't.

This patient has an NW3V pattern that almost resembles mine. My crown and temples haven't thinned out to that degree but they still are pretty thin and my frontal forelock/mid-scalp are quite thick. This result gives me great hope.

It is not a nice thing to go through as most women in this age bracket have been brainwashed by the media to admire men with long, thick hair but it does come with some benefits; you get a more matured stance on life - you end up focusing more on things that matter (for me that means working out more and focusing on my school and career).

I have been using it for 2 years now and am 20 years old. It has kept me at a NW3 stage. You read and hear many stories about side effects from this drug and while these stories can certainly be true, what you have to realize is that side effects are common with all kinds of drugs. Use this drug and see what happens. If you do experience side effects, consult with your prescribing Doc immediately. Think of it this way, its either take this drug and possibly slow/maintain/regrow your progression/hair or its get off this drug and become what you are destined to become, which can mean anything from staying at your current NW stage to proceeding to a full-blown NW7. It is easier to recover from the early stages of the Norwood scale than it is from the latter. The more hair loss you experience, the more grafts and funding you will need to get an HT. In my POV, I would certainly get on this drug as most men in my family are NW6 - at that stage I would need 5000+ grafts to get a decent result from an HT (depending on several factors, such as scalp elasticity, donor density and etc.) and it would most-likely cost me $15,000-$25,000 to go through. And also, losing hair strands is not a bad thing, it is normal. Losing thin hair strands is a bad thing as it means the hair is going through MPB and will grow back even thinner until it ceases to exist.

What your experiencing right now, I experienced when I turned 17, so consider yourself lucky for having a full head of hair when it matters most. The usual pattern is hairline/temple recession followed by the crown getting thinner. I too have my mother's side with full hair and father's side with no hair, and unfortunately, I got stuck with the unlucky side. If the men in your family have just mature hair lines then I wouldn't worry about it but if they have more than that (diffused pattern, crown baldness, mid-scalp thinning etc.) then I would get on Finasteride fast. I consider myself somewhat lucky for starting Finasteride at a young age but I made a mistake with it when I first started. I turned 18, my Doc gave me the prescription and I used it for 1-2 months and then dropped it until a few months later, at which time I started to use it again and haven't stopped since - it has been 2 years now. Start ASAP and don't get off of it. Propecia is the main drug and it comes in the right dosage but you can also use Proscar which is affordable but comes in 5mg (you gotta 1/4 the pill). Good luck and remember, start ASAP!

Avodart lowers the levels of some thing in your brain that also plays a role in hair loss - from what I've heard anyways.
