  1. Its because your recipient area is still tender. Take your hat off and tap the ends of your fingers on your recipient area (not too hard). It should still feel tender and kind of sore. I'm 4 months out and the top of my head is still tender.
  2. i drove 10 hours for my transplant. I ended up staying in the hotel near the clinic for 5 days total (4 after the surgery) and i didn't leave the room except to follow-up with the doctor. I just went shopping the night before the surgery, and put stuff like milk, drinks, and lunch meat in my little cooler with ice. Worked out fantastic. I took my GF with me though, so if i wanted something else, she ran out and grabbed it for me. Didn't wear a hat at all for the first 2 weeks, and i recommend not wearing anything except a loose fitting surgical cap (no ball cap or any of that). Just shrugged off what people thought if they saw me.
  3. I just now starting to see some growth. I had the 1/3 front part of my scalp done with 2500 grafts, including the temples, and im now starting to notice my left temple. My right temple barely has any growth, but the left temple blew up. The hairs came in dark and are already a good half inch long. So, its really really hard to say how everything will play out up front. You could be like me and notice a lot of growth in certain parts, or it could all come in at once. Just be patient, and remember, growth typically wont start till 2-3 months, and thats usually peach fuzz =\ I noticed you had quite a bit of shockloss (As did i) but those hairs looked strong and should return. Best of luck!
  4. Hey man, You'd be surprised what you could get away with when you do a hairline transplant. It might be a little red for awhile, but i bet you could get away with it. I've seen a lot of people on here fill in area infront of their existing hairline, and they all turned out great (depending on the doc of course). The only thing I personally would be concerned with is enough donor hair for the long term. Keep a realistic hairline.
  5. for me, between my swelling and the stitches, my donor are was pretty tight for a good 2 weeks. i even had trouble smiling and laughing, as it would hurt my donor scar. What I would suggest to anyone going for a transplant, is to thoroughly do scalp massages on the donor area before. this will help relieve the tenseness i would suggest not going to the gym or lifting anything heavy for a good month or so
  6. man, I'm just about 9 weeks post ht as well and..lemme tell ya, I feel awful too. I still have enough hair on top to get away w/ using toppik, but its not exactly pretty. Just try and hang in there. Get ur mind off of it. Go learn something or be productive. Forget you had a HT for awhile. I'm building a website and rebuilding the engine on my eclipse to help stay productive!
  7. hey Bill, No i dont see any signs of infection, but I dont see any signs of growth. I seemed to keep about 20% of my grafts, and shed about 20% of my native hair from shockloss, so i ended up even. Do you think using toppik can hinder hair growth? I use it during the week while at work.
  8. Hey all, I don't have any pics just yet, but will post them soon. I am 2 months post-op and my recipient area is still tender. Not so much to the touch, but if i scratch my head from an itch, or massage shampoo into the area, its tender, sore, and sometimes painful still. At 2 months, is this normal? I also haven't noticed ANY growth yet at 2 months. I am to assume this is normal as well? Most people here I have noticed have seen at least SOME small signs of growth by 2 months. I guess I'm just looking for some reassurance if there is any. I went to Dr. Keene for 2400+ grafts in the frontal 1/3 region of my head. I'm also a diffuse thinner.

  10. I don't think there is necessarily any 'style' that the balding public has chosen. I think over the years, transplants have gotten a pretty bad rep, ultimately turning people off. However, companies like Bosley are pushing hard via TV Commercials which are raising public knowledge, but directing them to the wrong doctors =\ Catch 22 we have here. If HT's are anything like new technology, the more doctors pushing to emerge into the market will drive down the cost and increase the standards and results. Sad to see Men's Health publishing such crap. Although, its just another magazine, so im not suprised..
  11. Yeah i think this kinda reaction is fairly common amongst patients regardless of the number of HT's they have. I went in for my first one and my heart was racing a little bit, but i didnt have a panic attack. I just let the valium or whatever they gave me, kick in and i was golden. I slept thru 90% of the procedure.
  12. im 6 weeks post op and can't see jack! I think a few grafts remained b/c i see what appears to be short stubble, but these must be the ones that never fell out. As far as growth, i haven't seen anything yet. Just forget u had a HT and go on with your life, and before you know it, BAM! you'll have hair =D
  13. awesome man! Good to hear. I too had a faint experience of sexual side effects when i first started the drug, but i think it passes once your body starts to recognize it as a daily presence. After the 1 month mark, i never noticed any side effects there after. However, i wasn't as luck as to have finasteride add any thickness or regrowth. it just slowed down my hairloss and stopped it in some places. Best of luck man
  14. This is why it is important to wait till you know what your hairloss pattern will be. will you be a NW7, NW6, or a NW3? Will your donor area stay thick? If you go in too soon for a HT and and your donor area you think is gonna be ok turns out to be in the non-safe zone 5 years down the road, your transplanted hairs might fall out too. Not sure if this is related, but thought it was at least worth mentioning
  15. its probably your scabs comming off, which looks like dandruff, and yes, your scalp will itch for the next few months. I've heard this from many members, and mine definately itches! haha but you get over it when the hairs start to come in =p Bill has some good points though. Listen to that guy
  16. Im a month and 3 days post op and Ive lost virtually 90% of my grafts. You can wish in one hand and sh!t in the other. See which one fills up first =\ Don't give up hope though, assuming they all fall out, they'll come back sooner than you think. I see a lot of people with significant growth at as little as 3 months... But I hope you keep 100% of your grafts, as no one enjoys seeing hair in the sink.
  17. I agree with hat. I went to dr keene in arizona, and thought she was quite professional and skilled. While she is not one of the top 5, she is still a great surgeon, as are many others out there. Just make sure your homework is done before you opt-in for a 2nd transplant.
  18. ive been wondering this as well. Now, i know most of your scalp receives its oxygen from inside your body (blood flow, etc), however does coating the scalp and possibly suffocating it, cause hairs to fall out faster? I generally tend to shower in the morning (or at least i like to) and i apply some toppik after my shower, so its generally on all day. And if i shower in the morning, it'll remain on all night until i shower again in the morning. How damaging is it to have toppik on this long? I've noticed sometimes the toppik can clump together (Even after only a few hours), ultimately sticking to your hairs, and causing them to be pulled out much easier.
  19. A question that any good HT surgeon will ask you is what the hairloss is like in your family. Since you said that most of your family members are now bald, it is a possibility that you too could reach a high degree (NW6+) at a fairly young age. If this is the case, I would advise against a HT as you will not only probably not get the density you would desire, but the hair transplanted might not be authentic permanent hair. Believe me, you do not want to be transplanting hairs that could just fall out down the road and be left with a big scar. Definately wait and see how things progress. Get on finasteride and try minoxidil. Give both at least a year to see how you react. You can even try shaving your head to see how you look, but do this before you opt in to any HT, as afterwards there is no going back =\
  20. yeah, im about 4 weeks post op (tomorrow actually) and i still have maybe 25% of my grafts remaining. I'm guessing by week 6 they will all be gone. Think of it this way, even if they shed, you'll see them again soon. Maybe having them shed upfront is a good thing in the long run.
  21. Hey man, I too felt like this when i first started Fin, and i freaked out. I'm a young guy myself (24), so I definitely knew it was the drug. I told myself however that I was going to continue with it for awhile, and sure enough, I've had no problems since. The sexual side effects are possible, but not likely. Make sure you rule everything else out, such as diet, exercise, smoking, other drugs, etc etc. Stay active and keep a positive outlook. Don't let it control your thoughts when the 'time' comes and you'll surprise yourself! All else fails, keep some Viagra close by
  22. I would give it more time to determine the outcome of the HT. wait at least until the 6 or 9 month mark to analyze what are singles and doubles. Looking at my hairline immediately after surgery its still hard to tell exactly what was done w/out a magnifying glass or some sort of magnification
  23. Hey Army, You are not alone however in being young and looking into the possibilities of a HT. I am 24 and have carefully watched my hairloss over the past couple years. The use of propecia has definately aided in slowing down my hair loss, as I'm sure it has helped you. However, being 23 now with that much hair, its hard to say if you'd reach a NW7 by the time your grandfather did. Family history can provide some insight into your hairloss pattern but cannot account for all of it. The worst case scenario, you'd be transplanting hairs that possibly could not be permanent. So not only would you have worthless transplanted hairs, but a nasty scar as well, with accelerated hairloss. Take your time in your decision, as its an extremely important one.
  24. hey there, it was my understanding that a combination of singles and doubles are used in the hairline. Think of it like this, I seriously doubt your bodies natural hairline came in only singles. Rather a combination of singles and doubles. Perhaps some pics would give us a better feel of what your looking at.
