  1. Thanks, Paul. I also think that she is an outstanding surgeon. Is there anyone out there who is going to have work done by Dr. Keene soon? What is her new rate?
  2. I just received a newsletter from Dr. Keene stating that she has new, lower rates. Does anyone know what her new rates are? She is a top-notch surgeon, and if her rates are low enough, I just may go in for round two!
  3. Danger, Glad I could help. Couvre costs $20, but the tube lasts a long time--you don't have to use very much. I wouldn't call it a night and day difference, but I do think that it makes a considerable difference. It really depends on the color of your hair and skin. I have black hair and light-colored skin, so there is a HUGE contrast. The Couvre darkens my scalp, which makes the hairloss less noticeable. If you have light-colored hair, the Couvre wouldn't make that much of a difference. If you can only afford one of the products, buy the Toppik. When I first used Toppik I was STUNNED by the results. For me, it really was a miracle. How much should you use? That depends, too, on the contrast of your hair / skin, the amount of hairloss, and the thickness of your hair. The best thing to do is to hold the container about an inch to two inches from your head and give it a few taps. Then, gently pat your head and comb the area. If you are not satisfied with the effect, try a few more taps. I do agree with the other guys when they said that too much Toppik can ruin the illusion. The crown is easy to cover, but the hairline is a little tricky. I don't use any in my hairline anymore, but that's only because my HT grew in and looks pretty good in the front. I hope this helps. Scarymemo, Minoxidil is a pain. I stopped using it a while ago. I only use Proscar now. My advice is to use the Couvre, dry your hair, use the minoxidil, let your hair air dry for about ten minutes, then add the Toppik. Good luck.
  4. Danger, I agree with all the comments made so far about Toppik, but I do have an additional tip for you. If you shampoo with Suave Professionals, use Couvre (sold by the Toppik company) as a base, use Toppik, and spray your hair with Aqua Net, you will not BELIEVE the results. The Suave and Aqua Net are both dirt cheap (MUCH cheaper than the Toppik products and sold at Wal-mart) and are incredible. The Toppik / Couvre combo gives a flawless effect. Like most of us, I look closely at my hair in the morning to make sure that nobody will be able to tell that I am using camoflauge (sp?). So far, I have fooled everyone--even my family. One last thing about Toppik--it washes out of your pillowcase, clothes, etc. If you use the hairspray, you really shouldn't have any problems anyway.
  5. Toppik is great, especially for the crown--it is undetectable. I use Covre (also sold by the Toppik company) first, then apply Toppik. Both products are reasonably priced. If you are trying to thicken your hair, try Suave Professionals volumizing shampoo--it's cheap and works really well. Also, Aqua Net hairspray will keep the Toppik in place. The Suave and Aqua Net can be bought at Wal-mart or any other store.
  6. According to my doctor, after the first week or so, the transplants are permanent. Have you ever burned your head before? Did your old hair fall out because of it? Probably not--so don't sweat it. Those babies are going to be with you for the rest of your life!
  7. Take your time to do your homework before you do anything, especially at 27--you're still very young. At your age, I would first try Proscar (Propecia) to stabalize the hairloss. You can also use Toppik to thicken your hair while you are trying to make a decision. Stay away from the highly publicized hair transplant places like MHR and Bosley. I had mine done by Dr. Keene (an excellent doctor) last year--she charged around $7,500-8,000 (I forgot the exact amount) for 2,000 grafts. Good luck.

    proscar online

Simplebald, The price on that site is not very good. If you go through your doctor, you can get a better price, especially if you have insurance. Most companies will not cover Propecia because it is taken only for cosmetic reasons, but some companies will cover Proscar, since it is also used to treat prostate problems. Good luck.

Ah, yes, the porcupine look. Couvre will help with the contrast (scalp and hair), but it will not get rid of the porcupine look. I took a more drastic approach and cut my hair pretty short. When your hair is short, the REALLY short hairs aren't so obvious. I would go with Couvre as a base and Toppik on top of that. Toppik is really good at covering up different lengths of hair and blending them together. Use the Toppik about a half inch above your hairline. You can blend any excess (at the hairline) with your finger--just rub over it gently. (I use Aqua Net hairspray--cheap, holds forever, and it's at Wal-mart.) The cheapest place to get both of these products is at follica.com. They have great prices, and if you order over $100 (or something close to that), they don't charge postage--another money saver. Practice a little with these products and you'll be able to fool even your best friends--good luck.

    Camouflage

Yes, your skin should look better after the scabs fall off, but, in my case, once the swelling went down (after several days), my skin looked pretty normal. It might have been slightly pink, but I was walking around without a hat (but not in the sun). I had a lot of swelling, and I thought I was going to look like a boxer forever, but after a week I looked like I did before the surgery. I really think you should try couvre because it covers in a very natural way--just make sure that you apply it when your hair is wet--it's much easier to deal with. I hope this has helped. Good luck--it's worth it!

    Camouflage

After one week, your hair will probably look pretty much the same as it did before your operation, although you may still be a little pink--I wasn't. Once your Dr. says it's okay, you can use Couvre to cover up the discoloration (if you have any) or Toppik to make it look like you have more hair--both excellent products.

    HT Advice

Rich, I also had work done by Dr. Keene. She does FANTASTIC work and is very professional. She described the procedure, recovery, and expected results to me with total honesty. Everything went exactly as she said. Dr. Keene is a top-notch surgeon. Good luck.
  13. I've been using Propecia for about a year. I do believe that it has stopped my hairloss. I don't know if I have grown more hair, but I was losing hair like crazy until I started using Propecia. I was a type 5 or 6 when I started using it, but just a few years ago, I was a type 3. Like most men, I kept putting it off, thinking that my hair would stop falling out--it doesn't for most people. If I were you, I would take Propecia and use Toppik--it's a winning combination.
  14. Thanks for the tip on the website. They have really good prices on Toppik--cheaper than the Toppik website. Anyway, I saw a product advertised called Dermamatch. Has anyone used this product? What does it do? Can you really swim with it? Is it better than Toppik and Couvre?
  15. I agree. Dr. Keene is an excellent doctor. If you can get some coverage with your HT, you can cover the rest with Toppik (or similar product). I think you will be happy with the results--I am. Good luck.
