  1. In November, 2008, I visited Dr. Konior's office for a consultation. I was expecting to get some good information and a slight push to schedule my hair transplant. Boy was I wrong. Dr. Konior took the time to talk me through everything and gave me some excellent information but he did not push me to schedule the surgery. In fact, he talked me into holding off for a while. Because I am young he said my hair line will continue to change. He requested that I start taking Propecia and wait at least 6 months to a year before coming back to talk to him. I was surprised but relieved to find that he was legitimately concerned about my hair loss rather than his next pay day. I do plan to go back to him soon to discuss my results with Propecia (Actually, I take Finasteride). Anyway, here are my pictures. The first few are from October 2008 and the last few are from May 2009. I have been taking Finasteride since November 2008 I believe. Do you guys think the Finasteride is working? I don't expect to grow new hair... just maintain what I have. Also, I just recently got a hair cut so my hair in the new pictures isn't as long as in the old. http://myhair182.shutterfly.com/26

  3. I am going to Dr. Konior's office in a couple weeks for a consultation and am wondering who all here has consulted with or had an HT done by Dr. Konior. If you have, please post all thoughts, concerns, etc... How did your consultation go? How was he/his staff before, during, and immediately after the HT? How helpful has he been in the months following your HT? Are you happy with your HT? What about your scar? Is it small/hidden/itchy, etc...? I am not sure how many people we have on here who have consulted with or had an HT done by Dr. Konior but I hope I can get some good feedback from those of you we do have! Thanks!

  5. Man am I happy the doctor prescribed Proscar!!! When I took Propecia I think I spent about $60 for 1 month supply. I just went to the pharmacy and bought a 1 month supply of Proscar (4 months after splitting) for only $5! What a huge savings! Uk_lad... if you are taking the finasteride for your hair and nothing else, split it into quarters. 1mg (or 1.25mg) is plenty for what you need it to do and it will last you much longer. I thnk the 5mg is only for prostate troubles.
  6. Good news. I called another dermatologist that I had gone to in the past and he knew exactly what I was talking about. He said it is no problem as long as I split the pills. I am going in tomorrow! As for splitting the pills, how do you guys split it in fifths? Does anyone just split it in quarters?
  7. Thanks! I will call around and ask a couple dermatologists. I haven't yet decided on a HT doctor... I am going to schedule a consultation with Dr. Keller and Dr. Konior from Chicago. Do the doctors give prescriptions at consultations before a final decision has been made?
  8. Hey, have any of you had problems getting your doctor to prescribe Proscar? I went to my dermatologist a while back and he wouldn't prescribe it... he would only prescribe Propecia.
  9. Thanks for your responses and advice. I have contacted both doctors via email. I emaild Dr. Konior the other night and was shocked to get a very quick response. He actually wrote me a few times today answering all of my questions. He and Tom have been great so far. I just emailed Dr. Keller tonight so I don't expect to hear back from him until Monday at the earliest.
  10. This is my current hair line as of 10/8/2008. I would like the bald spot in the back to fill in as well as my hairline to be restored completely.

  12. Hey everyone, I have been reading the forums here and doing some research off and on for the past couple years. First a brief history of myself and then the questions... History I am 27 years old and have been losing my hair gradually for the past 8 years or so. First it started receding and then thinning out on top all together. My father is bald as is my mom's father so I know what I have in store. Over the past couple years I have taken Propecia and Rogaine, but really did not see any results. I believe I am now a 3V moving to a 4 ont he Norwood scale. I feel like I am ready to move forward to the hair transplant. Questions 1) I am thinking of a consult with Konior or Keller in Illinois. Any suggestions one way or the other? 2) After the transplant, do you generally have to take Propecia and/or Rogaine for life to maintain the remaining hair? 3) Should I wait until I am older for more hair to fall out before I go in? My self esteem is low because of my hair so I want to do this sooner than later. 4) I wear a baseball cap all day for work. How long after the surgery until I can wear a hat for 40 hours a week? Thanks! I will have more questions in the future I am sure. I am excited to finally start posting on here!
