I met with Dr. Giannoto, before deciding to go with Dr. Cooley. I went with Dr. Cooley because of this, and a few other, websites. Dr. G. does work at numerous places. He met with me and after hearing my goals, actually discouraged me from doing it because he felt he could not achieve the density I wanted. Dr. Cooley did a great job, and the density is very good, I wear my hair spiked and sometimes people comment about how I am lucky to have had no hairloss. I was a nw 3 and now a 2 with a spiky doo, which, with dermmatch, looks pretty thick, and totally natural. Starting at 5 months I went to a new hairstylist, a few months later I started dating her. She never had a clue that i had a ht.

It is pretty much par for the course for ht'ers to think they screwed up their new grafts. Relax, you didn't. I fell for the paranoia too and was sure that I had lost most of my grafts after getting out of my car on the interstate to retrieve some luggage from the bed of the truck because it started raining. This was the day after the surgery and I was not wearing a hat. Well, this giant semi blows by me and hits me with a 70 mph wind. I was sick for weeks thinking that the event probably blew a bunch of my grafts out. It didn't.

I would guess MPB. I think it takes quite significant stress to cause hair loss and your loss has lasted a long time. I know you would characterize your stress as quite significant, and while it might have been at first, I would think that some 8 or so months later, without being enrolled in school, the stress would not be bad enough to cause hair loss. Nutrition is a pretty long shot too. Almost no one has a very good diet at 23. If we refrain from "looking for zebras," then MPB is the no. 1 candidate. I would get on Propecia, I would use minoxidil and use nizoral shampoo. If you are not suffering MPB then you will not need to be taking these meds for "life," but if you are then you have a pretty good chance of slowing down or stopping your hair loss, even a small chance of some regrowth.

Birdy, My hair loss was very similar to yours. You can see the early results of my ht, by looking at the photo albums, back in march I posted showing results after 6 months. The title of the post is "6 months progress." I had 1700 grafts. Anyhow, I am very grateful that I did it. I look much better different now. I was 38 when I had it done. I know everyone says this a lot, but people who have not seen me in a while say I look great, and that something is different, but they can't figure out what. If I were you and had the funds, I would do it and I would lower the front hairline a bit also. Of course, only with a top-notch doctor. I would also use propecia/rogaine and Nizoral. Best of Luck.

Cooley's practice is not all that local, due to his quality and reputation, he has clients fly in from all over. I came from Florida, and I know of others as far away as California. I am very pleased and did not go through the horror show warned of by Aquarius. I did not find Ailene or anyone at Cooley's office to push me to do the procedure. Frankly, I got the impression that they were plenty busy.

I am wondering what the doctor meant about giving the appearance of a lower hairline by rebuilding a widow's peak around 5 cm? what is being described by this?

Here is my advice: really consider the shaved head look, I have lots of friends with it and they do very well socially, much better than when they were shy about their receeded hair. the father with the NW 6 by age 40 is the biggest reason. It is hard to have enough donor to cover up a 6 with much density at all. Meanwhile take the finasteride and between shaves get a feel for whether you have stabilized. Four months of summer would be a great time to shave your head and see if you can pull it off. Once you go ht, you have probably lost your option of shaving due to scarring.

I also had 1700 grafts. 7 months later and it is totally undetectable. No one, not even hairstylysts know I had an HT. I do have a lot more hair, but since it came in slowly no one caught on. My recipient area was not shaved. You can see the photos I posted on the Photo albums section. You said that a lot of people don't know you have lost hair and that you are getting 1700 grafts. I think this helps a lot. I notice that the detectable hts are those where someone started as a NW 5 or worse and it is just very hard to get enough density in such a big area.

I took off a week of work. Because of Dr. Cooley's skill, there was nothing after a week for anyone to notice, no scabbing, no redness and almost all of the new graft hairs had fallen out. also no shaving of the recipient area. No one noticed, no "wandering eyes" while having conversations, etc... No one suspected ht once my new hairs grew in, just compliments on my new haircut.

I was wondering if someone could look at my before pictures and give me an opinion on what nw class I was and maybe an opinion on where I am now. I never got a good feel of my nw class at the worst. Also, I must say as others have, that pre ht I did not realize how much hair I had lost. You get used to it because it happens slowly and I got so used to a comb forward and avoided mirrors that I really wasn't aware.

Regarding your concern about uneven growth. I also had uneven growth and posted on several sites. I was repeatedly told that it is very normal. Well, my growth caught up in the slow areas, and looking back on it, I was growing more in the slow areas than I thought, it just was not as obvious. So, don't worry about that at all, three more months and you will be in real good shape.

I had 1700 grafts, 3300 hairs. I can't remember the exact number of 1's, 2's, etc. but there were about 900 1's. I don't have an immediate post-op picture. The grafts were placed at an average of 50/cm2. All grafts were to the front and temples, I had a far recessed temple on the right side that you cannot see very well in the before pictures, but it is now even with the left.

Could not have been more pleased with the entire experience with Dr. Cooley. I took a week off of work, when I came back no one could notice. He worked around my existing hair without shaving it. The procedure was relatively painless. He was extremely responsive pre surgery to answering my many questions over the phone. Overall, he gets a A plus plus.

Well, for what it is worth, I am six months out and I am very happy I did it. I had all of the same worries. I am getting lots of compliments on my "haircut" and it feels great. I was probably a nw 2b or 3a, so people have no idea why I look a little better/younger, etc.
