  1. I hope I am on the correct topic. I looked them all over and this seems to be the best fit as it is a question about hair loss. I recently had a hair transplant done by Dr. Paul Rose. It was a very positive experience. When I went for my consultation and Dr. Rose found that I was taking statins for my cholestoral, he mentioned that they are discovering that one of the side effects that some folks have is loss of hair. Yesterday, I was speaking with an acquaintance from back up North and I asked her how her husband was doing, though up to that point I really wasn't aware of just exactly what was wrong with him. Well, to cut to the chase, he was taking statins and losing hair all over his body (my problem also, besides my head). The dr. is monitoring him closely for his cholesterol levels but has taken him off the statins about 3-4 months ago and his hair is actually growing back. His barber commented on it and she said that yesterday was the first time he actually had to start shaving again. I am wondering if anyone else on the forum has experienced the same problem. I haven't been able to find anything like these symptoms attributed to statins on the internet only muscle cramping. Would appreciate any input if you have any. Thanks.

  3. Well I went for my procedure last Friday and I was pleasantly surprised at this experience. I must say it was rather long, all day, 1493 grafts but it was not bad at all. In fact, I felt badly for the technicians that were on their feet all day or tediously looking under the microscopes separating the grafts. Dr. Rose is terrific and at one point sort of apologized at going over our discussions a second time. Said he was very anal. I said as far as him working on my head anal was good!!! I can't say enough for the techs that worked with my all day. Everyone was totally professional but light hearted and friendly and all, including Dr. Rose, did their very best to make it as pleasant an experience as possible. I definitely could tell that my complete comfort and satisfaction was their chief concern. Right now I am in the fourth day of recovery and I will return back on the 10th day to have the sutures removed from the donor area. I will keep you posted on how things are going. As I am a female and experiencing female pattern baldness, I must commend Dr. Rose for his complete honesty. Unlike my first choice that told me I had male pattern baldness, and that my transplanted hair would never ever come out, Dr. Rose explained that at some years down the line, I may experience some loss though it would be quite a number of years from now. I really, really appreciated his honesty. I am now checking out an endocrinologist to try to slow down any further hair loss. For now I just wanted to say thank you to your site because that's how I found Dr. Rose and also wanted to recommend his services to anyone in the area. Thanks again.

  6. I couldn't seem to find anything with this type of question. I recently had a consult with Dr. Paul Rose. I listed Pravachol for Cholesterol treatment and he mentioned that statins in some cases are said to cause hair loss. Up until this time I thought it was just age and hormonal as I've had all the bloodwork done and it is all normal. I have been taking Pravachol for 5 to 7 years now and am not sure when the hair started coming out. I'm thinking it must have been all along and I am just noticing it now because of the amount I've lost. Is there anyone here in the network that has experienced this type of hairloss and if so did you stop taking the statin and did your hair grow back? Thanks.

  8. Thank you. I am so delighted and grateful to have found this site. I immediately went to the "find" portion and did a search on Marchou which, as you know, came up with several negative postings and absolutely nothing positive. Rather than take a chance, I have since cancelled the procedure and am in the process of trying to set up a consultation with Dr. Rose. Thank you so much again.
  9. This is my first attempt at posting on this site so I apologize if I am on the incorrect forum. If I am, perhaps someone can redirect me. I just wanted to say how grateful I am to have found you all. I was scheduled to have an HT at the Hair & Scalp Clinic in Clearwater on June 25. I looked up the Dr. (Michael Markou) and Clinical Director (John Satino) and couldn't find anything -- neither positive nor negative -- on them. That is until I came across your forum. Based on what I've heard about them on your forum, I am cancelling my appointment and making an appointment with Dr. Rose in Tampa, Fl. I couldn't find any positive comments on Dr. Markou. If there IS anyone on this forum that has something positive to say, I would appreciate hearing it. Thanks you for your input.
