  1. Clife8, if you already have not, try use the hairspray maximizer from Toppik. I have been using this from day 1 and it gives me excellent control in spraying where and how much I need to, including at the hairline. I have not encountered any clumping whatsoever and have been able to achieve exactly what I want, using the spray. Using the bottle directly produces clumsy results IMO (I had tried this once to test it vis.a.vis the spray)
  2. Clife8, Congratulations on taking the plunge. I had a procedure with Ron Shapiro on Sep 7th 2006. I was about the same age as you (31 and a half) with exactly about the same hair loss pattern as you currently have , before I had my procedure. You can check my blog for details and pics, and search for other posts from me. I am yet to post my post op 6 month pics. You wont be disappointed with Dr Ron Shapiro. I felt completely at ease to the point that I almost enjoyed my procedure. I would just advise you to be cool and not be nervous. After all this is not for any major disease that you are undergoing this, but to get a fuller head of hair at the end. Thinking about this should make you feel at ease. I did not feel any discomfort at all at any time through the procedure, not even during the administration of anaesthestic. Dr.Ron Shapiro is very down to earth and keeps chatting with you informally through out the process. Importantly the rest of the Shapiro team is also excellent with Matt, Janna and the rest of the team making you feel very comfortable. Post op, the staples will be irritating for a few days, but just follow the instructions to wash your hair and it will turn out fine. Finally, I have been using Toppik as well post-op and continue to use it on a daily basis even now. No one can tell that I have toppik on. My new hair growth (its six months and full growth will take a year or so to determine) combined with Toppik gives such an amazing thick look to my hair. I also take propecia post-op to keep my existing hair. Good luck to you and I am sure you wont regret your decision. Do keep us informed of your progress. Icare4myhair
  3. If a hair loss reduction pill causes sexual side effects, then a question I have is whether a hair loss prevention pill (propecia) can be taken along with a sexual problem remediation pill (say viagra or similar pills). Personally, I have been taking propecia for about 2 months now and have not really experienced any side effects. I do not have much knowledge of the sexual remediation pills either, as I have fortunately not had the need to use any so far. If I had to choose one over the other, obviously, I would prefer hair loss over sexual side effects. But, ideal situation would be to avoid both, if possible. Considering that this may be a situation to contend with in future, would anyone have any information on taking hair loss and sexual remediation pills (say propecia and viagra) together or are they known to cause any problems when taken together?
  4. Thanks, Pat. It was scary all right, with me almost on the doorstep of a MHR procedure. I guess the timing of my chancing upon this site was impeccable. I would attribute it to my last minute desperate browsing of the internet, the weekend before my scheduled procedure (subconsciously perhaps, to find one small reason why I should not go ahead with MHR). As it turned out, your site came to my rescue in the nick of time. No amount of words will be enough to appreciate the great work you are doing. I will keep this forum updated with my progress. Today is exactly 1 months and 10 days after my procedure. I am beginning to lose my transplanted grafts. Will post some more pics in a couple of months, to review progress Several people in similar positions have since PM'd me asking about the the doctor, the procedure, cost and other related HT information. It feels really gratifying to do my bit to help those in the quest for HT knowledge and to give back to this site.
  5. Mark, Thanks for pointing that out. I have now included hair count in my signature. It adds up to 5346 (I wish I had the extra 200 )
  6. Dhoose, You could have told him how 'genuinely' sorry you were about his hair and asked him to try propecia or recommended a HT procedure with a top doctor. That way you could have made sure to bring up the topic of his hair while also doing him a good turn
  7. Eman, Thanks for your comments & wishes (sorry I somehow missed your response). I have since created a blog with description of my progress and some pics.
  8. First of all the subject of this thread is ridiculous, especially initiated about a medical group by someone who seems to be 'genuinely' looking for a HT from that particular medical group Secondly, if someone wanted a response from SMG, I would have thought it a better idea to write directly to them, given that this is possible http://www.shapiromedical.com/contact.htm I find it extremely funny to find a definitive response regarding # of grafts and rates being sought from a top HT clinic on a public forum read by hundreds of people Thirdly, I find it amusing that someone who can spend a few hours creating this thread, reading it and responding to it, cannot find a few minutes to call or write to the medical group directly and get the specific answers to the questions (especially considering that an initial consult has already been done) Lastly, I also found it quite impressive how Jotronic took advantage of the situation to skilfully pull in a prospective HT client to his own medical group. Job well done. (I actually wondered why this could not have been done through a PM) The irony of this thread is evident when the subject line is compared against the end result. But hey, all's well that ends well.
  9. Hi All, Has anyone tried out the new Rogaine foam? Just read about it and was wondering if anyone had any comments about the ease of use. Also, any insight into whether the effect of the new foam will be the same as the original rogaine solution? (the foam also contains 5% minoxidil) http://www.rogaine.com/Mens/?ID=1700
  10. Troy, I was sent samples of Toppik and Dermatch by Janna from Shapiro medical where I recently had my HT. I also bought a 25g Toppik bottle along with a toppik spray maximixer. I sprinkle the 2.5g Toppik on the top and crown areas, and then spray the 25g on the front and along the hairlines. It is working quite well for me, and I have not had to use the dermmatch at all. And it only takes me about 5 mins for the whole procedure and then I walk right out the door for work (no waiting time for it to dry etc). I have attached a comparision pic here of my pre-op photo with a post op day 16 photo with Toppik. Dr.shapiro had also shaved the cut off the thin hairs along the front/hairline during my HT. (Today is post-op day 25 for me). You may want it give it a shot.
  11. MeeKs, I started using Toppik two days ago myself. It works beautifully, you wont believe the difference. Make sure you get the Toppik spray maxmizer(only works with the 25 and 50 gm bottles. I sprinkle from 10mg bottles towards the middle and the crown and then round it off with a spray in that area. I only use the spray in the front and the hairline. Its been working fine for me for the last two days, no maintenance work required or messiness caused. The only thing is that I fear I may get addicted to it and/or start using large quantities because of the effect it has :-)
  12. My long term regime , post HT , at this moment consists of the following: 1)Propecia 2)Dermavite (Doc suggested both Dermavite and MSM and if I had to choose one, he asked me to go with Dermavite). This, I guess would be optional. 3)He also suggested rogaine beginning a month post HT, if I was ok with it. Also, seems like a new version of rogaine will be out shortly, which will be easier to use. So, for now, I am sticking only to Propecia and Dermavite as my post HT regime. Post HT, you would at least have to take propecia in your long term interests of preserving your native hair and possible growing some hair near the crown area.
  13. Jesterscort, I had my HT with Dr.Ron shapiro on Sep 7. You can check my blog for more details. My very first conversation with Matt lasted about 1.5 hours. He took me through several HT related material, and addressed all my questions patiently. I also addressed some of these questions further in detail with Dr.Ron and Matt in person in MN , the day prior to my HT. You may want to focus on reviewing your pics (i hope you have sent some pics to him before your scheduled phone call), and mainly discussing the procedure best suited for you - your goals/expectations, approximate number& location of grafts vis.a vis your donor availaibility, future planning, rates, pre and post op procedure etc. Matt also brought up other relevant details, where applicable, that I had not thought of. I am confident that you wont regret choosing Dr.Ron Shapiro for your HT. Good luck with your HT, if you decide to go with it.
  14. Thank you, Janna and JakeVig. I also used Toppik for the first time today - I just added to my blog a couple of comparision pictures of the front and front-top areas of my hair pre-op and that of my post-op day 16 with Toppik taken a few minutes ago. Toppik seems to be working :-).
  15. One more thing I wanted to add- I owe a lot to this site for proving to be invaluable to me at the right time. Usually I am sensitive about posting pics on the web, especially photos about hair loss, but I am happy and eager to do my bit to give back to this site and to hair loss sufferers. I sincerely hope that my updates prove useful to any potential HT candidates.
