I feel that it is extremely important to use rogain and propecia for atleast one year before any hair transplant, deal with the shed it is a good sign. Look at it like this if you have MPB depending on the degree your kinda screwed, if you do nothing its gonna get thinner and thinner, a HT should be the last option taken. The meds work for some people and the cost isnt that much plus a year isnt that long of a time to try these meds. If it atleast halts your hairloss, then go for the HT. As Janna stated I cancelled my HT because I saw my hair getting thicker and less fall out and I am seeing less scalp. I also went thru the shedding it sucks but dont give up, try them for a year. The exciting part is its only been 4.5 mos. I will reevaluate my situation in 12 to 18 mos. I hope the use of rogain, finesteride and nizoral shampoo, will conquer my MPB. If I feel that a HT is needed well I know where to go.The more I read it seems like the rogain and propecia/proscar kinda go hand in hand. IMO you need to be on both to truly get an upperhand on your hairloss, then if it that dont work go with the HT. The earlier you start the better. I guess is all defends how much DHT is in your body. I wanted to thank everyone who took time to personally speak with me and who answered my posts here. I never thought anything would ever give me good results. Ive been on propecia for 16 mos. which was probaly keeping the hairs maybe. I am a diffuse thinner and Matt from SMG told me to try the rogaine foam. Well I didnt like the idea because you have to use it forever.I wanted 3000 grafts from SMG my attitude was shave it down and lest get this over with.Matt convinced me and I tried the rogain foam and 4.5 mos later the results have been quite good, I first started noticing longer hairs in my brush. The top of my head just didnt grow before,when ever I would get a haircut all that was cut was the sides and back. I went from seeing my scalp to now barely seeing it. I decided to cancel because I need to give the rogain a full year. There are only 3 or 4 hairs in my brush now compared to 10 or 12 mos ago. My wife is the one who said something mos ago about the top of my head getting thin, the other day I got out of the shower dried my hair combed it and asked for her opinion she said a definite improvement. I also am using nizoral shampoo I feel anyone who still has some hair get on all three of these atleast for a year, for some people the results are great. Then make your choice. I did loose my $700 plane fare The choice wasnt easy I waited 6 mos for an opening with Ron Shapiro but I had to go with my gut. It just proves that weak hair follicles can grow and get thicker. I had a procedure done 6 years ago at MHR 900 grafts in my crown. I can feel my donor scar is this normal? there is no pain and it doesnt bother me but I was wondering if I should be able to feel the scar?

Hey NGTGB Matt Zupan from SMG told me if I cant use the rogaine foam twice a day use it once full strength, will work just as well. It is easier for me to use it a couple hours before I go to bed, this way it fully dries on my scalp. Hope that helps Jeff

Hey ngtgb are you on rogaine foam along with propecia, this combo can be very effective, It sounds like we are in the same boat as far as hair loss, lets put it this way I am using less and less toppik eack week,the foam doesnt work for everyone but in my opinion people dont want to mess with the foam because they think it is a hassle, its not if you use it at night once a day full stength I have been on it 4 mos and I see a big difference. I think I should get an award for this post or send money thank you Jeff

I was wondering anyone that had just hairline work say 1500 grafts or more was there any problems the way the hair grew in ? For example when I had my hair long, yes the mullet, it was very curly, so will this hair that is transplanted into my hair line is there a chance that it would be curly or is this just a real stupid question?

Hey Janna, Ive been using the rogaine foam along with propecia for a while now but I only use the foam once a day at night, however I just double the dose. Do you think that is still as effective or not. Your post shows very impressive results.I have been on the foam for 4 mos and propecia for 14 mos.Did your patient use it once aday or twice ? Congrats Emu my surgery with SMG is Jan 30 I will be flying out of Cleveland Ohio. Glad everything went well I am shooting for 3000 grafts as well, I was just wondering if you met with SMG before your surgery date? In my case I cant meet with Ron S. until the day of surgery which kind of bums me out, but I know all my questions will be answered the morning of surgery. I also have a surgery with SMG Jan 30 I just booked my flight out of Cleveland Ohio. I am very excited to get this done, I figure I am not gonna be happy with my appearance with thin hair and you only live once. I figure with my hairloss hopefully now stabilized with fin. and rogaine, if they can pull 2500 to 3000 grafts I will be more than happy with the results.This websight has been HUGE, the info and pics prove that if you choose the right HT team you will have excellant and natural results. I am going to add MSM to my list to battle MPB. I know this wont grow hair but in what way does it help? The capsules are 1000 mg, what dose should I take per day. Any input would be appreciated, thanks Jeff

I am also a diffuse thinner yeah I know it sucks I have a surgery with SMG in Jan. I am nervous about losing native hair even though ive been on proscar a year by the time my surgery happens I will only be on rogaine the foam for 5 mos. I dont know if that is long enough time. Shaving your head for surgery will minmize shock loss, but for diffuse thinners that is not that easy to do. When your bald or have a lot of recession there is usually a bald scalp and shock loss isnt that much of a concern, but I guess you have to take some chances in life, for me Im just trying to stabilize my hair loss with the proscar and rogaine, and I am 36 years old so I believe I have age on my side. Good luck with your choice but keep in mind there are alot of diffuse thinners out there that had to have HT by reputable docs. Try to find surgeons web sights that show pic, thats what I have been doing. SMG has a few pics of diffuse thinners that turned out great according to the pics. Goodluck Jeff

Good choice emusteve my surgery with SMG is Jan 3rd, I fully trust Ron Shapiro and his staff I feel he is one of the best in North America if not the world. I am also shooting for 3000 grafts, I am a diffuse thinner so I expect my hair to be shaved down, but like you said it will be worth it, Good luck jeff

Finesteride and rogaine are lifetime obligations if one wants to battle MPB, I would only stop if there was a serious side effect. I myself just started the rogaine foam 2 mos ago and I have been on Finesteride for 1 year. I am not thrilled to have to use this stuff for the rest of my life, but its either that are shaving my head. In my opinion people dont give these medication the proper time, it took time for your hair to fall out and it will take time for the medications to make it grow back, now if your on both of these and you go totaly bald then I wouldnt see a reason to continue.I think that would mean you just have too much DHT in your body, I hope this helps, Jeff

Hey Johann I had a procedure done by Mhr in 2002 900 grafts in my crown by Grant Koher. The hair did grow in but they are not follicular units they are micro mini grafts, and there is a big difference, I hope they have changed there ways and you might want to call MHR up and ask to speak with the doctor and ask him personally. My work was done in the crown so it doesnt bother me that much, it looks okay. I mean there is nothing you can do about it now but live and learn, do your research, so if you want another HT you choose a doctor from ths forum, Goodluck

I was wondering what is the big deal if shock loss occurs? I am getting a transplant by Ron Shapiro in January, Im shooting for 3000 grafts, I have hair but it is thin, so I am expecting him to shave it down. So after surgery if some of the native hair falls out due to shock loss shouldnt it grow back in 3 or so months?
