  1. I was using proscar and rogaine before the HT. i was told to stop using rogaine the week before the HT. and then to resume using rogaine 2 weeks after the HT - if I understood correctly. Does that sound correct?
  2. I understand to wait a week after HT to resume exercising, lightly. And then gradually increase exercising to normal levels over the next 2 to 4 weeks. What is the concern about overdoing it? I can see how it could cause problems with the strip scar healing properly. but can it affect the transplanted grafts? can it increase shockloss? what about sweating, does it affect the grafts?

  4. If I understand correctly shockloss in the receipent area can occur anywhere from 1 to 6 weeks after a HT. Are there things you can do to help prevent shockloss, like using rogaine foam or other products? keeping the area clean, eating healthly, avoiding alcohol, etc... Or if it's going to happen, it just will no matter what you do?

  6. Bill, I have some pixs, just need to figure out how to get them posted. I've been busy trying to catch up with work since my HT, plus trying to "rest and heal".
  7. After much researching and consulting w/ several Drs I chose Dr. Ron Shapiro to do my HT. I had the procedure on March 06, 2008 and it was a great experience. The entire staff provided excellent service to me. I was never in any pain or discomfort. The whole thing went very smoothly. My recovery has gone extremely well so far. I experienced no swelling and hardly had any scabbing in the recipient area. By the second day I could comb my hair forward and you could not tell I had anything done. It's like I didn't have anything done. I look almost completely normal - I'm just combing my hair forward more than before. Dr. Ron is a great guy. I flew in the day before to consult with him. My flight was delayed but he stayed until 7pm to still meet with me. He then drove me to my hotel so I wouldn't have to wait for hotel transportation. The next day Dr. Ron and his staff, led by Janna, made things go smoothly and very comfortable. I could hardly tell I was even having anything done. The staff worked very hard but were extremely pleasant and professional. I have never received such great customer service in my life. One of Dr Ron staff member also help me get my e-tickets for my flight the next day printed off the internet. My flight was early in the mourning and I was going to be rushed to make it. She also arranged for a taxi to be waiting for me the next mourning to rush me to the airport. Another staff came into work early the next mourning to clean and shampoo me so I could be done in time to catch my flight as well. Janna also called around and arranged for a clinic close to my home town to remove my stitches, at no cost to me. I was treated so well that it was almost like a mini vacation. But, the final and most important part is still to be determine, and that is the end result of the HT. I am confident after seeing how Dr Ron and his staff performed that my results will be excellent as well. If I had know it would had been this easy, I would had done this years ago.
  8. Cooley is the best , IMO, that I could drive too. And Shapiro was the best, IMO, otherwise - meaning I would have to fly. Consider H&W , but I am more comfortable stsying in the US. I feel Shapiro is every bit as good as H&W. If all things were equal, I was thinking stay closer, with Cooley. Price is basicaly the same. Thinking about flipping a quarter, ha! ha!
  9. Would it be better to travel by car or plane after a HT? Don't factor the cost of driving vs. flying. Driving yourself would be more private, but may not be as relaxing as flying. But if you fly you would probably want/need to wear a hat or something to hide the "work". But this would require wearing a hat for several hours. Would wearing a hat for a long period of time be bad for the grafts?
  10. Okay, I've posted about several other Drs, but I've narrowed my search (for the right DR for me) down to Dr. Jerry Cooley in NC and Dr. Ron Shapiro in MN. I know, it's my decesion, plus there are other great DRs too. But looking for any last feedback on these DRs?

  12. I have took Proscar for over 10 years. I still seem to be thinning on the front hairline. A hair DR told me I should take Avodart, as well as Proscar. That there are 2 causes of DHT and Proscar works on "cause 1" , but not " #2". And Avodart will work on "cause 2", but not "cause 1". Since I have took Proscar for so long and I am still thinning I should now try Avodart, too. Another hair DR (I have consulted with about 5 in regards to a HT) told be that I should only take one. That Avodart works on both causes of DHT. So if Proscar is not working effectively enough, I should switch to just Avodart. I'm confused!?!

  14. My point was even if the DR count the grafts, how do we know if they tell us the truth on how many? A dishonest DR could only do 1000 and tell us, and charge us, for 2000. We wouldn't know the difference. But as I said, by the time we go thru the process to select the DR, I would think we would trust them at that point. But, unless you have had a HT already with the DR, it's still a leap of faith on our part, that they will do a great job, charge us fairly, etc....
  15. I got my info from my personal consult with Dr. Griffin. Heck, regardless of the DRs price structure, we don't really know for sure what they are charging. Just because a Dr says he did 2354 grafts doesn't mean he did. We're not counting them. But all in all, I think we can trust the DRs to be honest about how many grafts they did.
