  1. I realize this is a forums for transplants, but I have a question about regrowing hair using medications. I think I recall reading several years ago that when a person begins to regrow their hair using Rogaine, or some other medication, that the new hairs first grow in as thin light colored hairs, fall out, then grow in again thicker. Is that right? Is that the normal process when hair that has fallen out begins to regrow? I ask because I started using Finasteride about 4 months ago and this is what seems to be happening. I experienced growth after about 2 months. These hairs then fell out and are now coming back. I'm also wondering if the new hairs will go through more than one phase of falling out and regrowing. In other words, will these new hairs fall out again before becoming normal looking hairs. Or will they ever become normal thick hairs? Any information on this would be appreciated. Thanks

  3. It's been almost 4 months since my HT, and the difference is pretty significant. One thing I have noticed (which is common sense, but I hadn't thought of it) is that the bigger the difference that losing our hair made to our appearance, the bigger will be the difference in our appearance when we regrow our hair (hopefully you can understand what I was trying to say). For me, losing my hair made a big difference, and as such, regrowing it has as well. Like you, I've also noticed more looks from the ladies - kind of like the good old days.
  4. Well, I am now at the point where it is very noticeable that my hairs is growing. I saw my mom for the first time since the transplant (she lives out of state), and she noticed right away. I had been wondering what I was going to say (would I just mention some of the products I am using and thereby imply that the new growth is from them, or would I admit to having the transplant?). When my mom noticed she said "you have hair". Since it appeared to be a dramatic difference to her, I admitted to getting a transplant. I'm curious, how did everyone else handle it? BTW, my three month pictures are up. Take a look and let me know what you think.

  6. Yeah, it was a joke. Fortunately, this isn't one of the "sexual side effects" of taking Finasteride.
  7. If it will make you feel any better, many people on this message board have paid thousands of dollars to have a hairline like yours. That being said, since you don't have a history of hair loss in your family, you'd probably be a good candidate for an HT to lower your's a bit.
  8. There was a little known study that was completed in 1999. It revealed that a very small percentage of men (.00193%, if memory serves) who took finasteride daily for at least 6 month, gradually turned into a female! It was such a small percentage that I'm sure you have nothing to worry about. It's probably just a coincidence that your skin now feels like that of a 25 year old women
  9. I was back in the gym after one week without any problems. I started off light and didn't use any free weights. I was going heavy again after week two.
  10. DJ, Yes, I am using Rogaine, but not the foam. The doctor also put me on Finasteride, which I started about 1 month ago. There's one other product he put me on, but I can't remember the name right now. It is some kind of foam, but it's not Rogaine.
  11. djdennis, I have to say that your pictures looked extremely good. I don't know if it was the camera, or the lighting, but it looked like you didn't even have a surgery soon after your procedure. My head was purple for about a week after surgery, while your's looked great in the 2-11 posted on your blog. Was that taken just after the procedure? Maybe you will be one of the lucky ones, and will keep most of the new hairs. Time will tell, and I'll be following along. My new hairs are going fast. In the past two days I've probably lost about 60% or 70% of them; and I had probably lost another 10% during the previous week. I'd say I'm down to about 20% or 30% of the grafts at this point. The funny thing is, on Sunday (2 days ago) I had not lost many hairs at all and was wondering if I was going to be one of the few who keep most of them. Big change in two days. Now I'm just hoping I don't have any shock loss. Does anyone know when the shock loss sets in? I'm three weeks post op, does that mean I am in the clear?
  12. Yeah, I have a blog set up. I put a link to it in my signature earlier today after AgentHarley mentioned it. You should be able to access the blog from any of my post. AgentHarley, I've been following your blog. If I'm not mistaken, I had my surgery 9 days after djdennis, and you had yours 9 days after me. I guess we're all in the same boat together, and will be progressing pretty close to one another.
  13. I am a NW5. I had 2700 grafts in the front/middle. I'll have a second procedure for the back, probably later this year. Since it takes so long for the new hair to grow in, I want to go ahead and get the second procedure over with. My new hairs are really going fast. At this rate, it may only take a three or four more days for them to be mostly gone. I'll be updating my blog tomorrow, which marks three weeks.
  14. I am almost at three weeks and I just started to lose the new hair at a pretty rapid rate. I was reading a book last night and kept noticing the grafted hairs on my pages. Then, this morning, I rubbed my head on a white T shirt and there were a ton of hairs left on it. I did it three or four more times in a row and each time there were about 25 or 30 more hairs on the shirt (yes, I have to admit, I counted them). I've been doing various things to determine if the hairs were falling out, and this is the first day I've noticed any significant loss. I think I'll start the MSM this weekend. I've been waiting until my new hairs fell our before starting (don't ask me for my reasoning because it probably makes no sense). djdennis, try leaning over and rubbing your hair on a white shirt. If the hairs are shedding, this will let you know. Good luck. I'm following your progress because I am just over a week behind you. I had my surgery on 2-20-8.
