  1. I haven't looked at that site in a while but I found the bald truth forum with less information than this one. There didn't seem to be as much posting traffic on it. This site gave me 99% of the info i needed to make an informed choice. good luck!
  2. "No developmental abnormalities have been observed in first filial generation (F1) male or female offspring resulting from mating finasteride-treated male rats (80 mg/kg/day; 488 times the human exposure) with untreated females." This was taken from the Merck site in the prescribing information. Pretty much it means that when male rats on ultra high doses of Propecia had babies, those rats had no adverse effects from the drug. Therefore, you really shouldn't worry about taking the pill yourself while attempting to have a baby. The only thing I, as a pharmacist, would say is DON'T let your wife TOUCH, or, of course, take, the tablets. They will absorb through the skin readily. Other than that you should be fine.
  3. I'm 12 days post op and had my stitches out Friday. My donor scar seems to be kinda red and bumpy. I've read here that the redness will go away but the slight inflamation (puffiness) and the way the top and bottom of the scar area meet seem to be a bit uneven (the top seems to be higher than the bottom) is concerning me. Will this improve / is it normal? Thanks for any replies in advance!!
  4. You make me feel better. I am currently down to having these little yellow dried up "boogers" falling off of my scalp when I gently rub. Kinda gross but, oh well the trials we suffer for hair!!
  5. I had my hair transplant last week (monday)and now 6 days out the recipient area is covered with little bumps where the hair was placed. When I rubbed one of them off, the hair with a small yellowish sphereical bulb came off. Am I losing the FU or just sheding. Please help. Thanks a lot.

  7. I went to see Dr. Cohen abt 4 months ago and was told that he does "mostly" FU's although at an incredible $7 a graph. He recommended 700 x 2 sessions vs both Berstien and Rose saying I need3ed 2000 x1 session. He also recommended transplanting a hairling and crown vs bernstien and rose covering the hairline, frontal region, and vertex (not extending into the crown). Cohen was no willing to add to my thinning frontal area. I really was not impressed with Dr. Cohen and will subsequently be going to Dr. Rose's in Tampa on monday for "my first" good luck!!
  8. Yes any pictures would be greatly appeciated. I have an appt with him in 2 weeks for a procedure and am having some nervous gitters. thanks
  9. I live in Connecticut and am schedualed for a procedure in Tampa FL in 2 weeks at Dr. Paul Rose's office. You really should be willing to travel to get a GREAT result (especially around here.) One long trip that may eat up a week of vacation time and money for an airline ticket but its is worth it if you get great results you can be proud of for the next decades. I think that beats determining a doc based soley on whether you can drive to the place or not. Good luck!
  10. I went for an inital meeting with Dr. Rose last month and was very impressed. I am meeting with him again Saturday with a few more questions. I would avoid Bosley -- too risky, I've seen a lot of bad result from them. Rose is highly regarded here and in my opinion a truely good physician and charges a resonable fee vs. Bosley who will set you back a mint and possibly leave you with horrific results. Good Luck!

  12. Can anyone tell me about the condition of diffuse patterned alopecia? I was diagnosed with a quite progressed case of this with a treatment suggestion of 2000 FU throughout the vertex, top and front of my scalp. Any info is appreciated!!

  14. I went to see Dr. Cohen of Fairfield yesterday and I was somewhat less impressed with him over Berstein. Pretty much, I have defuse hair loss a softball sized baldspot in the back and a receiding hair line abt 1 inch from origin. I had previously been to NYC to the New Hair Institute where Dr. Bernstein had recommended 2000 FU's in one session for $6 a graft. I was able to talk to patients in the NHI waiting room who stated that the procedure was really not bad at all (one was like - the sitting up in the chair sucks but thats only the first few days) the other said even that was no big deal. Numbness was also no big deal to either of them. They both said he was the best. Dr. Bernstien was able to answer all my questions and seemed very knowledgable. In 20 years of practice he has never been sued and was really layed back abt the whole thing. At Dr. Cohen's office there was no one on hand to talk to. Dr. Cohen, who would use "mostly" microscopic FU's with a few mini's, stated 2 sessions of 700 grafts ( for $7/ graph) would be needed. I was impressed with Cohen with respect to the time he spent with me and the care he took inspecting my scalp. He performs more HT's in CT that any other MD here and has been in practice for more that 25 years. He stated that he presented a coupla speeches at the conference in Chicago this past week. All this said, I really think would really rather be done with it with with one session with Bernstien who I have read much more feed back abt and feel more confortable with. The only thing I really liked abt Cohen's procedure more was the use of durable suchers vs. Bernstien's dissolvable stiches. I have read that the durable are better. Cohen said the dissolvable stiches will be still coming out of my head months later I was wondering what is best to use, in all your opinions, - staples, dissolvable or non-disolvable stiches?? Thanks in advance for any advice. PS. one thing I didn't realize with this whole thing was the backlog of appointments these guys have. Cohen is booking into the end of november and Bernstein - mid Feburary!! So plan ahead to do this!! Thanks

    Question ?

Actually, Its interesting that DHT, which is responsible for men losing the hair on their head, is also responsible for hair that starts to grow on the body at the time of puberty. Since Propecia blocks DHT formation, if anything it should in theory slow body hair growth. Anyway, in the clinical studies no extra body hair growth was noted (I don't know about any body hair loss, though.)
  16. I read somewhere that when micrographs and minigraphs are used, hair follicals have a tendency to be damaged when cut with the human eye. In particular, sebacious glands that keep your hair supplied with oil and moisture can be severed and consequently destroyed. Since the hair lacks these oils it can look dry and limp. There may be other reasons.... However, this is another reason why microscopically desected follicular units are the only way to go. The "entire package" is found in the FU (including sebacious glands.) This decreases the chance of this type of complication.
  17. Has anyone had any experience with Dr. Feller of Great Neck, NY? Thanks for any replies!!

  19. Hi, I'm from Wallingford and have a consultation appt with Dr. Cohen in a coupla weeks. I have done a lot of reseach on hair transplantation and really have seen nothing on him myself. He is on the recommended physician list of this web site but after recieving information from the doctor, his literature still makes mention of minigrafts which are out of date. Maybe the literature is just old. Anyway I have also been to an open house with Dr. Bernstien of New Hair Institute (www.newhair.com) in Fort Lee New Jersey (really close to the CT border) and was impressed with him. I am going for a one on one consultation with him on Wednesday. Bernstien seems to be one of the best in the country and I have read much abt him. I have also not ruled out Ron Shapiro in MN. He is also one of the best in the field. It may be a long trip but its my head and you can only start doing this type of thing once and its best to get it right at the start!! Jef
  20. No problem man. Yeah, Bernstien is out of Fort Lee; one of the best. At the open house he was recommending only Propecia for some guys and HT's for others. That impressed me. I'm go'in for a follow up private consult next month. I'll keep ya up to date. See ya
  21. No, if your concerned about the side effects of the drug I really don't think its a problem. As long as the woman doesn't come in contact with the pill itself its a non issue. And the drug's been around so long that if you not experiencing any of the sexual side effects (VERY unlikly at the 1-1.25 mg dose) then there is really no short term or long term adverse effects to be worried about. The only thing is, if you stop taking it you will lose any of the hair that it has produced and will bald to the point where you would have been if you never started taking the drug to begin with. I started taking it, myself, in May and am thinking about a transplant with Shapiro or Bernstien (just went to an Open House in NJ) if it doesn't grow back all what I want. Oh well, we'll see.... ttyl, Jeff
  22. It's only dangerous to unborn babies if the pregnant mother swallows or handles the pills. The drug can be absorbed by the skin into the blood stream so they should not even touch the tablet. The side effect is attributed to the fact that the blocking of DHT in the developing male fetus can cause genital abnormalities. Best Wishes, Jeff
