  1. Hey guys, close to 3 weeks post opp (19 days) and feeling thinner than before? I assume this is normal with the combo of shock loss, shedding of graphs and having a buzz cut when I'm used to 2 inch hair up front. Anyone else notice this? It's a little scary, figured graphs wouldn't start shedding yet, and hoped I wouldn't have shock loss. I'm scared for what it's going to look like in another couple weeks. Hopefully my hair will grow back out quick and make it look better, but now it sucks. I'm on propecia and using the foam. Any comments? Thanks bro's...Joe

  3. I'm sure there are many people that smoked before and afterwards and everything is fine. It's just a precaution that may have some play, but I wouldn't worry about it too much. Most people just beleive why even take the risk when you spent so much money, you want to get 100% growth and not take any chance. That's kind of my take on it. But I too am interested in hearing from people who have smoked before and after surgery and everything grew in just dandy.
  4. Hey Bill, it was with Ron..He is a great guy and so is Matt Z. And the secretary is even Hot, lol. Very comfortable and it went well. I would try to post pics but I have such a damn hard time doing it. I have some pretty good before and afters if you want I can send them to you if you can shrink them and put them up, otherwise no big deal. With the smoking, unfortionately, I did smoke about 1 a day up until surgery so I hope that doesn't hinder anything. I will keep it very minimal to none for the next month or so. Thanks bro's, hit me up if you have any questions...Joe
  5. Well first off I got my HT done by Shapiro yesterday, 1800 graphs!! Hairline looks kick ass, I'll get pics up soon.... Anyways, my reason for the post is about smoking. I don't really smoke cig's maybe one here and there, however I do like to smoke a small capone filtered cigar about once a day (i do inhale a little). My question is if I must stop I will, but I didn't stop before surgery because I wasn't told to because it came up so quick, so it would mainly be for after. Will a smoke a day or even every other day make THAT much of a difference in my graphs healing properly if I am doing everything else perfect? It just seems to me like more of a extensive precaution than anything. Again keep in mind I don't smoke a pack of cigs a day. I'm talking maybe one filterd cigar a day or every other day and maybe a cig or two a week tops. Give me your feedback here brothers. I would really like to hear from experiance.

  7. Yeah I just got done with about a 90 min phone consult with Dr. Shapiro's office and was expained everything in great detail. Just going to do an ultra refined FUT since I will probably be around 2000-2500. Really liked what I heard from the Shapiro office that's for sure. I will see Dr. Konior in the morning as well and probably make my decision. Thanks again for all your help here guys!
  8. Hey Bill, for some reason I was thinking FUE was what more people were doing now, I must have been wrong. I have a phone consult with Dr. Shapiro in an hour and an in office with Dr. Konior tomorrow morning so those should help. Here is the original email I sent if it helps: Hi Dr. Konior, my name is Joe Ward and am interested in a FUE hair transplant. You are one of the doctors recommended on Hair Transplant network, which is where I found your information. Anyways, I am 27 yrs old and am not taking propecia. Although, I am very thick in the back, and back top of my head which is where i heard propecia works mainly anyways (not in the front, so what I heard). I am interested in mainly re-strengthening my hairline nice and thick, mainly filling in my receding hairline, and probably filling in a bit in my front top as well. Maybe 1000-1500 graphs I would guess, but you can give me your opinion. What would be the earliest I could get the work done? And what would be the next step? Thank you very much for your time.
  9. Here is the Email he sent back to me after emailing him: Joe I'm not sure how you derived your graft estimate, but I believe you may be drastically underestimating what is needed to achieve what you describe as "nice and thick" hair. You have very dark hair and light skin. This is a high contrast situation and will require that you establish a minimum of 50% density in the thin areas to adequately camouflage your scalp. This means that 50 grafts per square centimeter are needed for the production of high density hair. There are many issues that need to be considered. You indicated that you are not on Propecia. I believe Propecia is essential in your case - not so much for regrowth - but as a modality to stabilize the thinning hair that still remains on your scalp. Surgical intervention can shock the preexisting hair. Any hair loss from shock will further deteriorate your final density. Propecia can have a very positive stabilizing effect on your remaining hair. I would suggest that you get a make-up marker and mark the exact hairline you want created and the back edge of the zone you want grafted. Figure 0413 is the perfect photo to do this with since it best depicts your full thinning zones. The marked zone will allow me to give a much better graft estimate. I am also curious as to why you feel FUE is the best option. That technique is very time intensive and costs about twice the amount of strip harvesting. I personally find strip harvesting to be the best method for the great majority of patients. Any comments? What do you guys think about the FUE thing? Thanks guys, and I will get pics up soon just waiting for them to get sized smaller...Joe

Thanks for the reply's guys, I'm sure I saved a HUGE headache/nightmare finding you bro's! And I'll hit you up to Melon. I am going to try to post some pics in another post but having a little trouble, lets see if I can get it to work, if so check them out and give me comments, best doc for my type of hairline, exc.. Thanks! Joe
  16. Never mind I read the OP over again and answered my question, sorry...
  17. Are Ron and Paul brothers that both work in the same office?
  18. Hey bro's, Man am I glad I did some research tonight. I have a consult with a doctor at Chicago Bosley tomorrow morning. I figure I'll still go and see what he has to say, but after reading many posts on this site (for like the past 4 hours, lol) I am thinking against Bosley and am between Dr. Shapiro or Dr. Konior. A little about myself, I am 27 and mainly just have quite a receding hairline that has been bugging me for years. It is a thiner on the top, front then the sides and the back, but that isn't my main concern; although I'm sure I will get some transplants in this area as well. I am guessing around 1000-1400 graphs maybe? But need the doc to determine this. Mainly considering I am focusing on rebuilding and strengthening the hair line, is one doc better than the other? I have read a bunch of posts on these docs, mainly older, but any advice would be greatly appriciated. Thanks so much for the help, you guys are the best...Joe
