  1. It is an excellent shampoo, actually the best for keeping dandruff at bay. But it does not have any active ingredient that directly or indirectly prevents hairloss. What it DOES do, however, is keep your scalp is good shape. It should be a part of every balding man's regimen. Remember, you can't fight hair loss with one weapon, you need to take a comprehensive approach and attack it with everything you have got. Nizoral should be used twice a week for the first few weeks or less (depending on results) and eventually no more than once a week. You can also use a volumizing shampoo on one day, a DHT inhibitor on another two days and maybe yet another moisturizing shampoo on the final day of the week. By providing your scalp with a variety of care and stimulus, you will achieve a good all-round effect. Some of the rigorous DHT inhibiting shampoos/treatments may help prevent hair loss, but they can also thin your hair and inflame your scalp. Use a shampoo to clean, not to regrow hair. That's what Propecia/Proscar are for... Max

  4. In trying to decide between Propecia and Proscar, it has become apparent to me that I would have to cut the Proscar pill into quarters. That's no problem for me. HOWEVER! On Merck's website they advise to swallow the Propecia pill whole and not break it up. Now, given that Propecia and Proscar are essentially the same, how come people routinely break one pill up and are not allowed/recommended to do break the other one? I also read in a few other places that some people crush Proscar and dissolve it in alcohol (it doesn't dissolve in water) before ingesting it. Does this have a negative effect on the pill's strength or utility? I plan on crushing the pill and mixing it with a liquid since I have an inexplicable problem with swallowing pills. Can I do this and not diminish the effectiveness of Proscar?? Please help! I'm confused!! Max

  6. I would like to get an opinion on something that's always been an enigma to me and something I've never heard anyone else talk about. Medical or other opinions are welcome. Basically, I notice my hair deteriorates when I spend time in Montreal, Canada yet gets stronger (thicker, less wispy and more healthy looking) when I'm in the Mediterranean region. Its no illusion, the difference is substantial. I think I've narrowed it down either the sun or the water. I doubt the sun would have that much of an effect, although I believe that certain vitamins are created when skin is exposed to sunlight. I think it comes down to the water type/quality. I heard that in the Mediterranean area where I frequent, the water has some chlorine and is unsoftened. I am not sure about the water in Montreal. Does anyone know why this is? It is going to affect my decision regarding a HT. Thanks! Max
