  1. Hello; I had a transplant with Doc Jeffrey Epstein in April 2004 and I am absolutely happy with the results so far.If you do a search, you can read about my experience, which was top notch. I would highly recommend Doc Epstein.
  2. Unfortunately, we all know the cruel reality of how baldness is viewed.
  3. THANKS MUCH TO ALL OF YOU FOR YOUR GOOD WORDS AND WISHES. In answer to solid's question: Yes I did have laser surgery to my eyes BUT that story,so far, is NOT a very happy one. About 2 years ago my 24 year old son had Lasik surgery on his eyes at a "discount" laser surgery center in Chicago ( $799 for BOTH eyes) and the results turned out good. His surgery had been postponed twice because of a leaky roof that leaked water on the laser equipment which then required repair and re-calibration. but, eventually, his surgery was done and his results were good. A year later, by 21 year old son went to the same discount laser center and HIS surgery was postponed due to-----A LEAKY ROOF!!!! I told him that if the company was too cheap to fix the roof, they are probably too cheap to keep their laser equipment in good repair also. Against my advise, he went back and had the surgery done anyway ( KIDS---they just don't wanna listen to anybody !!!!). Anyway, luckily his surgery was successful also. Now, recently, I decided to have laser surgery on MY eyes ( after my great experience with a HT with Dr. Epstein in Fla. I wanted to finish my "makeover" by getting rid of my big, thick glasses). I was going to go to a local clinic that uses a "rolling unit" that is brought in when they have a laser patient. However, thanks to Arfy ( thanks MUCH Arfy !!!!!) putting me on to a web site called "Surgical eyes" I realized that laser surgery is NOT as safe as the ads and TV programs lead people to believe. THANK GOD my kids both had good experiences!! After reading about the many botched lasik jobs being done I decided that I didn't want a "rolling laser lab" with a local part time laser surgeon messing with my eyesight-----I instead searched out and found a "state of the art" laser sugery lab in Detroit. The equipment was the latest and was owned by the surgeon who is the ONLY person to operate the equipment. The equipment is not rented out to other doctors and is not "moved from site to site". The surgeon has done over 28,000 lasik surgeries and I couldn't find any "bad" comments about him on any searches I did. Since I'm 57 years old and don't heal as quickly as my young sons, I decided to go with the best " custom vue intralasik " surgery ( $4500 for both eyes). Intralasik uses a laser to cut the flap instead of a blade like normal lasik surgery does--thereby eliminating a frequent problem with laser eye surgery. I took every precaution I possibly could. The lasik surgery was done and SHIT!!!---I got a POOR RESULT!!!! My eyesight was 20/300 before surgery with slight astigmatism in my left eye but my eyesight was correctable to 20/20 with glasses. AFTER surgery, my eyesight was 20/60 in one eye and 20/70 in the other with astigmatism now in BOTH eyes. The worst part is that my vision now can only be corrected ( with glasses) to 20/25 in one eye and 20/70 in the other ( in other words, my 20/70 eye CAN'T be corrected any further with glasses) due to the "irregular" astigmatism induced by the laser. My only hope is another laser session to "enhance" my vision----the laser is the ONLY thing that can correct the irregular astigmatism that the first laser surgery caused. The lasik clinic made special glasses for me to use temporarily until my eyes heal enough to have another laser session and by using them I can see good with one eye ( 20/25) but that's not what I paid for. If my laser surgery turned out poor with the best equipment available and at the hands of a very experienced surgeon, I hate to think of what might have happened at a discount "fly by night" outfit or the local "rolling lab". I guess that, just as with anything else, there have to be cases such as mine that make up the "statistics" The web site that Arfy put me on to ( surgical eyes) raised my awareness of the problems of lasik surgery but, in the end I think I had the feeling that "it won't happen to me". My story isn't done yet tho---I'm going in for another lasik session in October to correct the results of the first session-----I'm hoping for the best.
  4. Hello Jay; I'm speaking from experience when I say that Doc Epstein in Miami is a top rate HT specialist. I had 3115 grafts on April 12th and things are going great. My donor scar is pencil-line thin, I have no residual numbness in either the donor or recipient sites, I had very very little shock loss to my native hair and, so far,my transplanted hair is coming in like crazy. I can't say enough good things about my experience with Doc Epstein. My final results are, of course, not yet in, but so far, I'm extremely pleased. I only shed about 60 or 70% of the transplants and I attribute this to Doc Epsteins very coordinated and effecient team that strives to minimalize the time that the grafts are without blood supply thereby helping to keep shock loss to a minimum. As I remember, it only took Doc E. about 5 hours total to do my procedure of 3115 grafts. The 30 or 40% of the grafts that did not shed, have been growing nicely and have given me decent coverage a lot sooner than I had anticipated ( at least sooner than the average experience that I have read about). IMHO, Doc Epstein will give you a HT that is top notch all the way.
  5. I just realized that I'm not afraid to look in mirrors anymore. It's been a little over 4 months since I had my HT and, by no means, is my HT fully grown out--- but I earlier today, I was walking past a store window and a gust of wind blew my hair back (I've always worn my hair "down" in front---kinda a throwback to the 70's styles) and I saw my noggin reflected in the window. Instead of quickly trying to cover up, I actually enjoyed the reflection of my now-fuzzy mellon. I've probably only got about half of the 3115 grafts I recieved that have popped up so far----but DAMN ---I'm pumped !!! I've posted a 3 month pic of my results on my thread in the "hair restoration experiences" section in case any of you have missed it. I'll post another photo when I get to 5 months ( I forgot to take a photo at 4 months).

  7. Hopefully this time the picture will show up----3 months photo, no flash, 3115 grafts with Doc Epstein.
  8. Here is a pic of my HT at 3 months. Most of the hair you see is transplanted hair that didn't shed and has been growing for 3 months. There is a lot of very small hairs that are starting to come up, but aren't visible in the photo. The photo was taken without flash. I have no numbness left and everything seems to be going well.
  9. Hey Arfy----thanks for putting me on to that website about laser eye surgery. It sure is an eye opener---looks like HTs aren't the only surgery that is full of pitfalls in the hands of the wrong surgeon
  10. Solid; Graftsyte is not saline--it contains copper and other stuff that was developed for helping burn victims heal faster and better. Also, tell a Bosley or Nobel clinic patient that he got what he paid for and I think you'll get an earful
  11. socialdrinker: The $8200 for 2500 grafts was the price before his recent price increase. Doc Epstein has a breakdown of current prices on his website. What you must take into account also is that Epstein offers a travel reimbursment that is deducted from his prices and also, included in the price, are post-op care items that many other doctors only provide at extra cost--Epstein includes these in his prices. The post-op extras he includes are: Graftsyte spray ( Very pricey if you have to buy it on your own), Rogaine 5%, and Toppik in your hair color. There are also the usual antibiotics, pain pills, head bandanna, etc too ( I believe every clinic includes these last items in the cost).
  12. Just an update---I'm 9 weeks out and haven't had any further shedding since the 3rd week. New hair is slowly sprouting in between the hair that didn't shed but I'm getting impatient( just like everyone else when they were in my position I guess)My donor scar has healed very thin ( it's still a little red yet tho) and I'm not having as many ingrown hairs as I did a couple of weeks ago ( thank God---they suck). When I save up some more cash, Id like to have intralasik eye surgery ( jeez---I guess that'll result in my very own mini "Extreme Makeover"). Only problem with getting rid of my glasses is that then, everyone will be better able to see my big nose ( nose job next?---naw I don't think so--I'd lose all my "character")
  13. Futballer: You are lucky to have a superstar HT doctor right in Miami. I'm talking about doctor Jeffrey Epstein. I had a HT done by him about 9 weeks ago and IMO he truely lives up to his great reputation. He's highly skilled, artistic and passionate about his work and has a terrific staff of very experienced, skilled technicians. My experience with Doc Epstein has been totally positive--I'm glad I decided to choose him and I truely believe that you couldn't make a better choice than to go with Epstein as well. I had to travel from Michigan, but it was well worth it. I did a lot of research on this and other forums before I made my choice and you should too but here again,I must say, I believe you have one of the best HT doctors right in your back yard.
  14. Adam; I had a HT 7 weeks ago with Doc Jeffrey Epstein and I shed about 60% of the grafts in the first 3 or 4 weeks. The surviving 40% have been growing ( although slower than I'd like---like everyone else, I'm in a hurry ) and I too have been having stubble pop up and also black dots just under the surface. Just as Rugger says,I think you're right on schedule
  15. Another doctor you should seriously consider is Dr. Jeffrey Epstein. He is in Miami Florida and does excellent work ( he did my HT and I am VERY happy). He also offers travel re-imbursment.
