  1. I had a bit over 3000 grafts the first time and a bit less than 3000 the second time. The shock loss was almost none the first time but really bad the second time.(most of the hair from the first surgery fell out) I don't know how you figure ultimate % yields. I'm glad I went through the second surgery because my hair looks better now than before the second procedure. Although it doesn't look twice as good, more like 10-20% better. That's just the visual effect of going from really thin to not too bad (big visual effect after the first surgery) After the second surgery the hair line looks a bit denser and the hair looks a bit thicker. But it still doesn't look like a thick head of hair, that's just unrealistic. The point is I don't look balding anymore and I'm happy with that. Your progress will depend on your specific situation. I would have been happy with just the first procedure but I had the money to make a good thing better so I did. Pound for pound I got a lot more improved visual effect out of the first procedure. The second surgery was a lot more uncomfortable in the donor area. It has healed good now, but the scar is more visible when I look for it.
  2. It's been six months since my second surgery with Dr Charles on Sept 19, 2008. I had my second surgery just seven months after the first and experienced a lot of shock loss and pain in the donor area. Dr Charles assured me everything would grow back and invited me to call him as often as needed "every day if necessary" if I was concerned about anything while waiting for the hair to grow. I'm happy to report that all the lost hair has grown back. The new grafts have grown in too. I like my new look and I am glad I had the second surgery. The donor scar was almost invisible seven months after the first surgery but is still very visible now if I look for it with a comb. Just a small problem in the big picture of things, just can't cut my hair too short. I would recommend to anyone contemplating a second surgery to wait longer than I did. I know you guys would like to see pictures. I recently dropped my photo host site and am not set up yet to post pics. I'll see what I can do.

  4. I tend to eye drift at guys that are my age or older and have thick looking hair. I'm thinking "Damn that's a good head of hair is it real?" I've been on the receiving end too (glancing at my thinning areas) and it bugs me a little but I realize it's just human nature. All us guys eye drift on women's bodies and it makes some of them uncomfortable but that's not stopping us either.
  5. I spoke with Dr Charles today and he assured me at length that he was confident that the hair from both surgeries will grow back. He also invited me to call him anytime if I'm concerned in the future. I'll update my progress in six months.
  6. I have not discussed this with Dr Charles. Here's why. My first experience with Dr Charles was as you describe. The surgery was nearly painless and he made several follow up phones calls in the days following surgery to make sure I was alright. I had very little shock loss. It seemed like a text book success procedure and I was totally happy. At six months the new hair was growing in and looking great. I discussed a follow up surgery with Dr Charles and I thought I would have to wait 9 plus months but he said that there was no reason to wait any longer. The second surgery was quite painful during the anesthetizing process for the doner area. I think this was because Dr Charles didn't do the needle poking this time he had one of the ladies do it. No big deal I can take a little pain. After surgery Dr Charles called the night of surgery to check on me. He said he would arrange to have my stitches removed by a local Doctor near where I live and his office would call me early the following week to confirm. The office never called so I called them mid week to remind them and spoke briefly with Dr Charles. Dr Charles seemed busy but we took care of business. I haven't heard from Dr Charles or his office since. In Short, first surgery A+ second surgery C- I don't know what can be done now anyway. I mean Dr Charles isn't going to tell me I guess we should have waited a couple more months. I can live with the shock loss as long as the lost new hair that I already had transplanted grows back. I just wanted some feedback from others that have had shock loss of previously transplanted hair. Did it grow back?
  7. I had my second surgery with Dr Glenn Charles on Sept 19 seven months to the day after my first surgery with Dr Charles on Feb 20. Shock loss started within the first few days and now after about 19 days I think I've lost 60% plus of the hairs growing from the first surgery and still shedding. I'm hoping it all grows back but I'm a little worried the second surgery was too soon. Any feedback?

  9. Thanks for the kind comments guys. Ya I do feel a lot better. I didn't take any post op pics. Have been trying to not think about it too much while I'm waiting out the first few months.
  10. I'm 6 months post op and still a little numb in the graft area. However, it's getting better slowly and I've heard this is normal. I don't know if it's connected but as the numbness goes away the hair seems to grow more and more.

  13. Hi guys, Sorry I haven't got around to making a blog yet and posting pictures. Some more info, I'm 39, have been thinning a lot since about age 30, and I don't know the technical description of how bald I am, it just looks like I haven't got much hair in the front. I'll post a blog with pictures soon
  14. I had a hair transplant with Dr. Glenn Charles on Wednesday Feb 20. I was a little nervous in the days leading up to my scheduled procedure. However, there was nothing to really worry about. I was comfortable from beginning to end and the staff was very friendly and put me at ease. The day went fast with the movies to watch and I actually dozed off a few times. I experienced very little pain (the dental stuff I've had done was worse) and I even slept fairly well the very first night, though in a raised position. I've had no bleeding or oozing during the last two nights since the procedure. I can tell from looking at the grafts that when it all grows in that it will look fantastic. I Love my new hairline!
