  1. you know, this just shows that it is gaining research attention and $$$. with everything, it comes to $$$. like putting a man on the moon, it wont happen unless it becomes a priority, and first the money has to be there. It is like the search for a new energy source. People say the moon has tons of helium 3 which can be used for almost unlimited energy in the future. However, the interest in being a part of a project that will bring us to the moon again, in order to carry out collecting the stuff, is low among new young students at universities in NA. The money is not there yet. When it is, they will come. Hopefully, at the very least, these types of research will come up with better, effective treatments that can improve our chances along with current treatments (implants). If the research is not started, they wont get anywhere. Years ago, companies and scientists laughed at the marketability of a drug that lowers cholestoral and blood pressure. Now it is one of the most prescribed and used drugs in the world. I dont compare curing baldness to curing cancer. Given the choice, I would take the cure for cancer, as you and I have a good chance of having some sort of it in our lifetimes. Cancer treatments have come a long way. People dont automatically turn into dead man walking when diagnosed with cancer, it is not like it used to be. It is still a horrible disease, but early detection, drugs and better knowledge of it have allowed us to come a long way. In a few years, this will be just like laser surgery for eyes. It may not be a cure to blindness, but it pretty much rids you of the need for glasses and contacts....I dont think anyone would have thought that to be possible at one point. Now that method is being applied to more serious eyesight issues, including types of blindness. If we can pretty much cure some types of blindness and or serious eye issues, I would say it is quite possible for the baldness thing to work out eventually. Like another said, they will want to market it to the masses, just like laser eye surgery. Not everyone needs glasses, but a good number of the ones who do at least have it as an option. Also, I know many think that this is light years away because we have not found a cure for cancer yet. So how can we find a cure for baldness. Simple. Cancer is a much more complex thing. There are so many types, so many causes, many of which are still not quite understood. Personally, I think the 'cure' to cancer starts with prevention, just like other ailments like diabetes and heart disease. When you are smoking a pack a day, and shoving big macs down your throat, dont cry to me when you get lung cancer or heart disease. We will have a cure, at the very least a decent treatment of this type within 10-15 years.
  2. If she is marrying you, she is most likely being honest in saying that she does not care about your hair loss. What will affect her is how this affects you. I think loss of confidence, happiness, zest for life will cause a spouse to fall out of love with someone, quicker than if you just loose your hair but nothing else. So stay confident, at least be able to project confidence. Many 'confident' people are just as insecure as anyone else in the inside, they are just better at acting. also, kids do not care. I know many bald dads who were loved as much if not more by their kids than hairy dads...for example. i do understand avoiding the mirror and camera. I used to be vain and stare in the mirror for hours it seems fixing that, concealing that zit....now I avoid them. that is a sign that perhaps a hair transplant is a good thing for you, if you are a candidate.
  3. those are the pics I was hoping for and make me more sure about taking the plunge someday with rahal. That looks amazing, and I would never guess you had anything done. completely natural looking. you must be really happy. I cant wait for the days where I will be comfortable going to a pool party again. its been awhile....
  4. cant wait! lets hope the fun facts include: -now having to spend more money on shampoo and spend more time blowdrying -no more looking at yourself in the mirror at certain angles to 'minimize' the hairloss. -you no long have to were a hat, unless you are playing baseball... -you now no longer feel the need to wear one of those hideous biking helmets, because it used to cover up the thin spots and many more!
  5. congrats Geeve. looking forward to seeing the results.
  6. Eman, Your results look fantastic. I am getting more and more anxious about going in and taking the plunge as well. Thanks a lot for being so informative about the process and for documenting with such good pictures. we dont often see enough patients with light hair. You still have lots of growth coming i believe...cant complain about your result, that is for sure.
  7. Eman, that looks awesome. i am hoping for a similar result. you must be very happy. i cant see the scar you are referring to...
  8. there have been advances in all areas of medicine, but nothing really worth jumping up and down over in awhile. i mean, we know the causes of many diseases, but yet have no cures, just treatment. i hate taking the conspiracy side, but it makes you wonder if there really is enough attention/interest in cures rather than treatment. read the book 'cancergate' and you will know what i mean. very interesting book. anyway, the way the world is today...it seems there is only a cure developed if there can be money made, and there is definately money to be made in a cure for baldness. although that would mean the baldness treatment business (rogaine, propecia, transplants) will go out of business overnight...and that business alone is worth hundreds of millions.
  9. yeah, i concur, it really works on keeping the greese down and works wonders on itchy scalp. it can dry your scalp/hair out a bit, which you can help by using a good moisturizing shampoo. i find the nioxin cleanser works as well, with less drying effect.
  10. i was curious about the same thing. thinking of shaving down with clippers at a 0 and maintaining it with clippers instead of shaving. i woudl rather not shave with razor as i have a few small warts/skin tags that may get cut off by the razor. regardless, i think you are making a good decision as well. who knows maybe you will like the look, get used to it and be able to put off a HT indefinately, or at least until the procedure gets even better or another treatment comes out. i plan on doing it this spring, when i can get some sun. i may hit the tanning booth beforehand just so i dont look like a q-tip
  11. looks just awesome. unbelieveable. I hope I have near that result when I go in. I have light hair and will wear it ceasar style until the day I die...so hopefully my coverage will end up being similar...
  12. dhuge, welcome back. looks good. thanks for serving, you are a better man than I
  13. bad bad advice....tell that to my wife who is down 18% on her 'managed fund', while I am still holding on to mine and making money because I made changes before the market did, before major funds can react. Her advisor could care less really, which was the same attitude mine had in 2000 when the funds he sold me for huge fee kickbacks fell off a cliff. Not painting with the same brush, just the same color (green for greed) yeah, there are opportunites right now, but the other shoe still needs to drop, and it is only a matter of time before the currency markets come to what is left of their senses and the dollar resumes its downtrend. are you advising your clients on these oportunities? I am pretty sure what the answer to that is. in your opinion, are we in a recession? because the majority of analyists say we are 8 months after we actually entered one, and admit we are out of the woods about a year after the business and stock cycles have reversed. Gold is not doing so well, despite the dispare times, for reasons you must know, but the majority of investors wont be enlightened to. this housing crisis is differnt than the one in the 80s as credit has dried up. Rates were left too low for too long, and the last decade has been built on borrowed money and debt. IF the banks dont use their new funding to facilitate lending, instead of buying up weaker rivals, there will be more trouble. anyway, nothing you dont know already...
  14. yes, i meant shave right down with the clippers. i know....easier said than done. yeah, i worked a paper route and then retail for years, but i still had problems meeting women. not sure where it stemmed from, but i was usually the best looking guy in my circle of friends, and yet i couldn;t pick up the women for the life of me. anyway, stop thinking about them...think about yourself, confidence is key and practicing talking to people in a retail job type situation is good because it lets you practice for when you really need it.
  15. I hate that! it isn't everyone. just some people do it. and I notice it. my advice, find something 'wrong' with them and focus on it....
