  1. Don’t borrow if it will put you in financial stress and/or emotional stress.
  2. You have very good hair quality and you also are correct that you have more of a recessionary pattern of loss…however, anyone who has MPB will have some degree of diffusion, some more than others. Having said this, a big factor of your case has to do with your wide color contrast with that black hair on a fair complexion…the high visual impact area is your frontal zone and so every graft must be carefully selected, positioned, and “anguled” perfectly or the result may not look aesthetically natural…the first several rows of your hairline should have a somewhat thinner caliber with the grafts behind them gaining caliber to better achieve the illusion of density…remember, it’s the illusion that can be achieved without having to dense pack when individuals like yourself have optimal hair quality. Both surgeons that you are considering do top notch work but I highly recommend that whoever you are considering, look at as many mature results with patients that have as similar hair characteristics as you. Lastly, I feel some surgeons are sorely overpriced and again, by comparing results, there are other very talented FUE surgeons who can give you an awesome result without paying those exorbitant fees!…just put in the time researching the top established talented FUE surgeons who have the track records and documented results.
  3. This is true and I also concur that the slower growth is related to the blood supply in the posterior area of the scalp…a full mature result in the crown can take up to 15 months or so.
  4. At 4 months the hair that was shocked is just starting a new growth cycle and still not visible until it grows an inch or so…on average hair grows 1/2 inch per month.
  5. I bet your clippers were sharp and the blades were not dull…the more dull the blades, the more tension is created.
  6. You have good hair volume in the frontal third section and IMHO, wait on doing any surgery as that should be the last resort…I definitely agree to start finasteride for your crown and see how much improvement there is in 12 months.
  7. I forgot to mention that every patient is entitled to a copy of their chart.
  8. The real issue is the amount of tension that a clipper produces, it’s not so much the length of the hair after it’s cut.
  9. You have an advanced diffused thinning pattern and a HT can induce shock loss…getting on finasteride for a full year can potentially reduce the higher levels of shock although there are no guarantees, it’s much better than not getting on the meds first.
  10. Most scalps, if not all scalps, should be completely healed and barren of any scabs or crusts…still, using a motorized clippers can put stress on the hair in its early growth phase and why many doctors advise against it until the initial regrowth phase has completed.
  11. Thank you my friend…the key is to make them accountable…for every graft!
  12. My initial reply is more related to the flaws that I see in their approach. Now please allow me to respond with some advice that I often convey to patients in ascertaining and an accurate accounting of grafts that are paid in advance…Always insist that the surgical staff “charts” the graft count that are being placed according to graft size and exact placement in a defined surface area that is clearly marked…after all grafts are placed, the recipient area needs to be photographed with all photos provided to the patient at checkout, NO EXCEPTIONS…photos taken before any placement and along the way as each section within the recipient zones are filled in accordance with the written surgery plan…this approach also provides a basis to track regrowth rates and yields…your chart should clearly document how many grafts were extracted by size: i.e. (total # of singles, doubles, triples, etc.) the photos should show and confirm the same total number that you paid for…make them account for EVERY graft that you paid for…all of this needs to be discussed beforehand at the time you schedule your procedure date.
  13. The biggest flaw that I see is that this approach calculates the restored density at the same level (number) irrespective of each individual (1cm) squared area and does not consider the variations of graft size…obviously this would have a huge bearing on visual density…regardless, the density levels on any scalp are going to vary and why surgical hair restoration must be a subjective approach, not a precise numerical count for each area…and no I have not seen any other clinic take this same approach to substantiate a plan for the recipient area.
  14. Between approximately 500-700 grafts will fill the area in nicely.
  15. IMHO, vaping is not as detrimental as full blown smoking however the ideal is no vaping at all.
  16. I also was wondering if Gary was able to find a good option, NOT Ziering.
  17. If anything, that quick slap on the surface created a good rapid rush of blood to your thirsty grafts.
  18. Hundreds upon hundreds of single hair grafts are used when new hair lines are created!
