  1. Hi guys. I've been taking generic Proscar for about 6 months now. The label on the prescription simply says "Finasteride 5MG TAB Generic for> PROSCAR 5 MG TAB QTY 30". The prescription plan from my insurance company automatically swithches you over to generics once they become available. I pay $10.00 for 30 tabs and then cut them into quarters which gives me 120 doses. Hope this helps.
  2. May I add Proscar can now be purchased as a generic. I recently paid $10.00 for 30 tablets. When quartered that's 120 doses. How does that compare to Propecia?
  3. I wish you a good recovery Martin. It was a pleasure chatting with you. Sorry our British friends are out of the World Cup. Next time!
  4. Congrats Ben. Your recounting of your Feller experience was just like mine. The "crunching" sounds. Oh those "crunching" sounds.
  5. My experience with Dr. Feller has been A+. At 3.5 months I have already good growth. This is my second HT (first one was with Shapiro). Based on my experiences ask Dr. Feller for the best density he can give you. He will do up to 70 grafts/cm2. You WILL NOT be happy with a thin, wispy HT. Keep the painkillers handy after surgery. Get those scabs off as soon as you can. I washed my hair twice a day and let it soak in for 5 minutes and lightly massaged my scabs with fingertips. All were gone by day 9. If you have a friend/relative remove the staples, it's a good idea to apply Bactine to them for the removal process; it' an anithestic and antiseptic. Take MSM. I take 4000mg a day and feel it really speed up the regrowth of your buzzed non-transplanted hair. It's also good for your skin and nail growth. Hope this helped. Good luck Ben.
  6. Hello Benjamin. I had 2063 grafts from Dr. Feller on Mar 1, 2006. I stayed at the Andrew Hotel at 75 North Station Plaza. But it's not cheap. It cost $200.00 a night. It's about a 5 minute drive from Doc Feller's. It was a nice hotel but pricey. Great Neck is a ritzy place. Most guys seem to stay at hotels in midtown Manhattan, but I didn't want to deal with the traffic. You might not want to walk too much after surgery as you will probably have a bandage wrapped around your donor area. If you stay in Great Neck, try La Gioconda Restaurant. Really good Italian food. Good luck!
  7. Didn't accuse you of being dishonest johnnie69. In my post I was referring to me telling my story honestly, even if it stepped on other people's toes (which it did). If I had a disappointing experience, and I mention it on these boards, then am I bad mouthing a doc? You used the terms "innuendo" and "hearsay" in your post. I'll say it again; you don't have to believe me. What do I or Mudpuppy have to gain by relating our Shapiro experiences? In the end, we both felt there were other docs who would give us a better result. No harm, no foul, no name-calling.
  8. It's funny Mudpuppy, I thought johnnie69 was referring to me because I was less than happy with my Shapiro surgery. First off johnnie, I'm happy your delighted with your second HT from Shapiro. I have no animosity towards you. Hell, we are all in the same boat. However, I recommeded H and W to you because it sounded like you needed a mega session and no one does that better than H and W. Period. I have no affiliation with H and W. Hell, I'm a mailman from NY. Also, I went to Dr. Feller for my second transplant. Now, to say don't believe everything you read; well, yea, good advice. But the title of this forum is HT Experiences and Surgeon Reviews; and some of us have come forward to say we had better experiences with docs other than Shapiro. At 6 weeks post-op from Feller I have hair already poking through my poor yield area from Shapiro. Feller really packed the hair densely and I'm much happier with his work than Shapiro's. If we are here to share our experiences, then let's do it honestly. You don't have to believe me about my HT experiences; and that's fine, you don't know me from Adam. But please don't infer that some of us are being less than honest or have some hidden agenda. I certainly don't and I'm sure Mudpuppy doesn't either.
  9. Domie, I bought a bottle of Bactine and put the solution on the staples prior to removal. Bactine containes lidocaine (an anasthetic) which should slightly numb the area as well as preventing infection. My wife removed 64 staples in about 10 minutes. It went rather smoothly with only slight discomfort.
  10. Hi Mudpuppy. There are pictures on this site of my pre and post op pics with Shapiro. They must be about a year old. Do a search under my name. I did not mean my comments as an attack on Shapiro as much as praise for Feller's work (so far). Feller has my pre and post op pics from his work. I knew there were no guarantees going in; but when I looked at your results, I saw me. Where did the 2200 grafts go? As far as being attacked; I don't care. I'm a big boy. I don't know if I will post pics. Don't really want to go down that road of answering all the questions or explain myself to people thinking I'm unfairly attacking Shapiro. Funny, you and I had surgery during March 2005. So, instead of dwelling on the negative, I am hopeful DR. Feller's procedure will get me where I want to go.
  11. Sipa, I wouldn't be too concerned about some of these HT organizations. I recently had a 2063 graft strip procedure from Dr. Feller in order to add density and fill in an area of poor yield from a procedure I had with Dr. Shapiro in March 2005. Dr. Feller's work so far, is head and shoulders above my disappointing Shapiro work i.e. density of 60 grafts/cm2, minimal scabbing, and far less numbness in my donor area. Dr. Feller even removed Shapiro's scar and gave me Tricho closure (which he learned from H+W). All this and Dr. Feller charged about $2000.00 less. Yes, it's far too early to make a final judgement and I don't want to get my hopes too high. By Sep I should get an idea of Dr. Feller's results. At this point it doesn't matter to me what organizations Dr. Feller is a memeber of.
  12. I, too had a HT with Shapiro in March 05 (2200 grafts). I'm not going back either. Density is real thin in most of the recipient area. I'm scheduled for a dense pack procedure and a little tweak of the hairline by Dr. Feller in March 06.
  13. I had a 2200 grafts HT with Dr. Shapiro Mar 1, 2005. I didn't want my hair cut either but the doc recommended it for a better final outcome. I gotta tell ya; I looked like crap for about 2 months. I took 7 weeks off from work and looked somewhat passable when I went back to work. But prior to that it was hat city. On the plus side, however, I had a lot of hair growth already at month 3. I'm now 4.5 months out and things are steadily improving. The doc knows his craft and you should seriously consider his advice. Good luck!
  14. Since you are on the Pacific coast you might want to consider heading north to Vancouver! Good luck.
  15. BobC, I'm no medical researcher, but I think what you are referring to is called a "placebo effect". Look on the info packet contained with most prescription drugs and you'll probably see the results of the tests on the drugs. I think they will list side effects associated with the drug and patients not taking the drug, but a placebo, will state they have side effects. Anyone more knowledgeable (and can spell better) please chime in.
