  1. Ok thanks for the replies. The more I think about it the more it makes sense to be on Propecia for several months before a HT. I've been on it a couple of weeks now and was thinkin of scheduling a HT for end November, but I may just hold off and let Propecia do it's thing first. It would be good to get a surgeon's view on this. Cheers, PB
  2. Howdy all...I have a quick question re Propecia and transplants. It seems that after a person starts on Propecia hair will start shedding first before it grows back. If this is the case then supposing someone went for a HT a few months after starting Propecia, isn't there a danger that the HT surgeon will transplant hairs into areas where hair has only shed and would be growing back due to the effects of Propecia? So I suppose my question is should a person wait until having a HT before starting on Propecia? Or should a person be on Propecia a minimum length of time (i.e. 1 year) before having a HT? Cheers, PB

  4. So, any takers on this?? Anyone know anything about Finax, anyone been on it for a length of time? You are all being strangely silent..do I take this as a reflection on Finax? Thnx, PB
  5. Hi - apologies if this is the wrong place for this thread. I was thinking of starting on 1.25mg Proscar daily, but I've heard about Finax lately and I have a couple of questions if anyone knows anything about it: - is it the exact same as Propecia? - does it work the same way and have the same effectiveness? - any side effects over and above those of Propecia / Proscar? One other thing - I'm thinking of doing some travelling around Asia (mostly Thailand) in January/February. If I start on Proscar / Finax then I will have to take it with me. Does anyone have experience of travelling while being on finasteride? Would there be an issue bringing tablets into an Asian country? (I get visions of that film Midnight Express if anyone's familiar with it!) Thanks a lot. Paddy_boy
  6. Hi Hoping it's a fair point that you're making...there isn't much out there about long term side effects. I'm 34 and have just bought a supply of Proscar and a pill cutter...but I haven't started on it yet. I read on Dr True's website (http://www.truedorin.com/medicaltreatment.php) that "Men over the age of 35 need to have a prostate exam and PSA test before starting Propecia." I also remember reading somewhere that being on Propecia reduces the effectiveness of prostate cancer tests, or to put it another way the ability to detect prostate cancer.
  7. That's great chaps thanks for the advice. You're right Pat we could have been neighbours if it wasn't for that...the past is a different country as they say. I found the website of The International Alliance of Hair restoration Surgeons (IAHRS) www.iahrs.org. This organisation seems to have only the top HT surgeons in the US listed on it by invite only. Having a look at New York I see Bernstein, Epstein, True, and Feller among others. They all look to be very good and Feller seems quite reasonable - $5,950 for 1,300-1,500 grafts. I'm going to continue my research and I'm glad to say the more I find out the more confident I am that a HT is the way to go. Thanks again for the advice. Paddy_boy
  8. Howdy all. I came across this site a while ago and it's a great resource I have to say...this is my first post. I'm thinking about having a HT...I'm 34 and have been thinning on the crown and front for about 10 years. It's been pretty slow thankfully so only now is it starting to get noticeable...I'd say I'm a NW 3V. I live in Ireland and there are 2 surgeons that perform HTs. I had a consultation with one (Dr Conor Kiely) - he seems pretty good and he's been at it for over 10 years so he says. However the maximum number of grafts he will take is approx 1400 in a session. I told him of surgeons (such as Hasson & Wong) taking up to 3000 grafts in a session. He said he doesn't understand how they can do this, and he guesses that they are splitting the grafts more than normal to increase the numbers. Would this be true? I'm considering travelling to the UK or the US if it turns out to be a good bit cheaper...Dr Kiely charges 6 euro per graft (about $7.60) So my questions are: - How is it possible to get large numbers (3000+) grafts..are the grafts split more than normal - Has anyone from Ireland travelled to the UK or US? Has it been worthwhile financially, and also are the surgeons/procedures better there? Thanks a lot...sorry for the long winded post! Cheers, Paddy_boy
